Samsung phones are highly in demand all across the board, from their top-of-the-line flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra to their budget offering Galaxy A15! The case isn’t any different in Nepal either with high amounts of pre-bookings for their latest offering. Given its popularity, Samsung is trying to reach out to even more consumers with its Insta Finance service!

Samsung Insta Finance Overview

Well, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a majority of Nepali consumers don’t find it ideal to gather huge chunks of money for a commodity. Especially not for a smartphone or an electrical appliance. This is why EMI (Equal Monthly Instalments) are so sought after. BUT! The existing process is quite a hassle.

The Existing Process

EMI isn’t a new thing in the Nepali market. Vendors have been offering EMI services for many years now. However, they do so by keeping a financial institution as a mediator — more specifically a bank. So, the process is that you request a store for an EMI, and then they refer you to a bank of choice. After that, the bank asks you to get their credit card service which is a whole other hassle of its own. You need to provide them with your income statement, legal documents, and bank statement for the past few months.

Credit Cards

Even after that, it takes a certain time for the bank to provide you with the credit card. After that is done, you have to go back to the vendor and take a correspondence from them requesting the bank to provide you with the EMI.

Again, the bank might not even approve your EMI request. Then there’s this thing about the interest rate, service charges, maintenance cost of the card, and yadda yadda. The bottom line is — the existing process is long and tedious, to say the least. This is exactly why the service hasn’t garnered popularity among the Nepali folks.

Enter Insta Finance

Given the difficulties of the existing one, Samsung is aiming to ease the entire process. They have partnered with Hulas Fin Serve Ltd. to bring the “Insta Finance” service. With this, they are entirely getting rid of the need to get a credit card, and by extension having to work with a bank. Here, all you need is a guarantor, citizenship, a few photos, and a source of income.

Samsung Insta Finance

Here, the process is simple! Go to the store that offers Samsung Insta Finance service, submit the required documents, get the paperwork going, and get the phone or electrical appliance of your choice. Here are a few perks of Samsung Insta Finance Service.

Pros

  1. Income sources other than salary are welcomed. The other income sources you can provide are business and house rent.
  2. The whole process will be completed within 72 hours.
  3. NO Interest in EMI!
  4. Multiple methods of payment including eSewa, Khalti, ConnectIPS, over-the-counter payment, and bank deposits.

Now, every good thing has a catch. Here are a few of those of Samsung Insta Finance service:

Cons

  1. You still need to disclose your income and supporting documents. However, they do offer you flexibility regarding your income. You can provide your business or land ownership certificate instead of a salary certificate.
  2. If you are thinking of applying for EMI by providing any other source of income than your salary, then you will have to visit a store in the district where your citizenship was issued. (Quite a hassle!)
  3. You only get a tenure of payment of up to 12 months, which is still too high for some of Samsung’s offerings.
  4. You need a guarantor.
  5. Most importantly, you must still pay a 40% down payment upfront.

A few things to remember

Except for the things I’ve already mentioned, here are a few more things that might come in handy if you are planning to apply for Samsung Insta Finance:

  1. You can get financing for smartphones costing over NPR 24,999 and electrical appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, etc. with a price tag of over NPR 30,000.
  2. While you have to pay a 40% downpayment for smartphones, the downpayment requirement for appliances is 10% less than for phones.
  3. You get fined 2% of the total overdue amount if you are unable to pay the instalment in time.
  4. This service is only applicable for financing Samsung devices.
