Xiaomi recently grabbed headlines with the ultimate flagship smartphone, 12S Ultra. The company is once again in the news, this time, for its upcoming EV car. According to the latest report, Xiaomi will pull the curtains off its first electric car (EV) in August. This article will discuss everything we know so far about the Xiaomi Car.

Xiaomi EV Car Overview:

Sina Tech has reported that Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the first prototype of its electric car this August. The report cites sources from within the company and its partner firms. As per the report there is a separate facility for EVs at the Xiaomi’s Technology Park.

Founder, Lei Jun, who will unveil the engineering prototype of Xiaomi EV Car, has been reported to spend about two-thirds of his time there whenever he is at the company headquarter.


Very little is known about Xiaomi’s first EV car except for the fact it will be a product of HVST Automobile Design. It is the company behind Weltmeister’s Maven concept car. A couple of pictures of the said Xiaomi EV car have been spotted on the internet, which shows-off the same Maven car but with Xiaomi’s logo stamped on top of it.

Mass Production in 2024

Even if Xiaomi Smart Vehicle Business unveils the prototype of its first car in August, it won’t be available in the market any soon. The mass production of Xiaomi’s first EV car will take place in 2024. Xiaomi plans to manufacture 150,000 cars every year.

Xiaomi will have its manufacturing plant at Yizhuang with space for research and development as well. The capacity will be around 300,000 EV cars per year.

Xiaomi has already set up its Public Relations (PR) department, which will get into the marketing after the first the official unveiling.

Xiaomi EV Adventure so far

The Chinese phone market first made its desire to pierce into the EV market public last year. Xiaomi committed to forming a wholly-owned subsidiary, Xiaomi Smart Vehicle Business, with an initial investment of RMB 1000 billion. The plan is to increase it to USD 10 billion in the next 10 years.

Lei Jun currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Smart Electric Vehicle Business.

Xiaomi Smart Electric Vehicle Business is working on 4 different EV car models across two price segments. The A+ segment will target the RMB 150,000 to 200,000 price bracket. Likewise, there will also be a premium models, which will cost between RMB 200,000 and 300,000.

Both the A+ and B models will support autonomous driving, albeit of different level.
