NRB orders the shutdown of Nepal’s only 100% digital banking platform, OrangeNXT

Nepal’s first fully digital banking service, OrangeNXT, is being shut down. Yeah, the one and only. You might think, “wait, wasn’t this supposed to be the future of banking?” Well, apparently not. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has just ordered Laxmi Sunrise Bank to close the service, which means OrangeNXT’s customers now have to move back to traditional banking services.

OrangeNXT has been around for over one and a half years, launched in January 2024 by Laxmi Sunrise in partnership with FoneNXT. This neobanking platform was a fully digital experience, with no paperwork or visiting a physical location. Just a smartphone and a stable internet connection were all you needed.

OrangeNXT to be shut down

No wonder the young people loved it, and so did Nepalis living abroad. In fact, over 65,000 users signed up to OrangeNXT, holding deposits worth NPR 170 million. And it had some pretty clever features too. Gamified savings, personalized accounts, video KYC, etc. All that jazz. We tried it ourselves as well, and were pretty impressed by how feature-rich and easy it was to use. You can read all about it in our review here.

NRB monetary policy 2025-26 discussing neobank
An excerpt from NRB Monetary Policy 2025/26

But now, all that gets undone because NRB says the proper legal framework for all-digital banking platforms isn’t ready yet. Which is quite strange because NRB’s own monetary policy for 2025/26 is clearly pro-neobanks. And did I mention that OrangeNXT had already been up and running since January 2024?

How does this affect the customers?

With NRB’s cruel directive, all those 65,000 OrangeNXT customers will now need to migrate to traditional banks for their services. Imagine trying to explain that to your parents or relatives who are not tech-savvy. And speaking to The Kathmandu Post, Laxmi Sunrise Bank’s information officer, Mr. Piyush Raj Aryal, said:

“We are the first bank to launch a fully app-based digital banking product, so the central bank is examining its potential risks, compliance issues, and other legal dimensions. Once the NRB completes its assessment, it may provide a way forward. For now, the product has been put on hold”.

A global perspective

The concept of neobanking may be news to our parts of the world, but it’s absolutely huge in countries like India, Brazil, the UK, China, Germany, and the US. Some rely on partnerships, some have independent licenses.

Brazil’s NuBank, for example, became Latin America’s largest fintech bank with over 122 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. The Philippines has multiple neo-banks. Even India has fully digital banks like OrangeNXT. And yet in Nepal, the first attempt is being shut down before it has had the chance to fully spread its wings.

The bigger picture

But of course, this isn’t the Nepal Government’s first rodeo. We have seen a similar fate handed out to ride-sharing apps like Pathao in the past as well. Yatri Motorcycles struggled with regulations, too. Whenever something new comes along, instead of making rules and frameworks, the government’s first instinct seems to be shutting them down.

My final words

Yeah, I think it makes sense to question this official approach. NRB’s action leaves Nepal behind in fintech adoption, frustrates users, and halts progress. And yet, the discussion about neobanks is still alive on paper. Will neobanking ever truly arrive in Nepal this year? We don’t know. But if OrangeNXT is any indication, the road ahead is going to be… bumpy.

OPPO’s latest foldable phone — the Find N5 — is finally here in Nepal

OPPO’s new foldable, the OPPO Find N5, made its global debut in February of this year. And now, the company has brought this phone to Nepal as well. This article will include the device specifications and features, along with the official price in Nepal of the OPPO Find N5.

OPPO Find N5 Overview

Design and display

The Find N5 measures 8.93 mm thick when folded and weighs around 229 grams. That sounds impressive for a foldable, although it’s slightly thicker and heavier than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is just 8.9 mm thick while weighing just 215 grams.

In terms of build, the Find N5 features a sturdy aluminum alloy frame, while OPPO’s “Nanocrystal Glass” protects the cover display.

Adding to its durability, the phone carries an IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 water resistance rating. Meaning it can handle everything from water splashes to full-on immersions and even high-pressure water jets, but not dust particles.

OPPO Find N5 design and display

When it comes to displays, you’re getting a couple of 120Hz LTPO AMOLED panels here. The one on the front measures 6.62 inches, while the OPPO Find N5 has a massive 8.12-inch main display. Performance, battery, and cameras

Under the hood, the OPPO Find N5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for a flagship-level performance. But interestingly enough, compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite we’ve seen on other flagship devices, the one on the Find N5 has a 7-core CPU setup only. With one less “Phoenix M” core.

Out of the box, it runs on ColorOS 15.0 based on Android 15. As for the battery, it comes with a large 5,600mAh silicon-based battery, which is a lot bigger than the Z Fold 7’s 4,400mAh battery. And it supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

OPPO Find N5 Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor

As for the cameras, the OPPO Find N5 is equipped with a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide camera with autofocus. On the front, both the inner and cover displays house an 8MP selfie camera, ensuring consistent quality whether folded or unfolded.

The new Redmi Note 15 5G is here with downgraded cameras

Xiaomi has just launched its entry-level Redmi Note 15 smartphone along with its Pro siblings. The Note series has been the best-selling series from Xiaomi for years now, although this guy has some questionable camera downgrades compared to its predecessor. So in this article, we will be discussing everything about the latest Redmi Note 15 5G, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Redmi Note 15 5G Overview

Display and Design

On the front, you are now getting a 6.77-inch 12-bit curved AMOLED display here, which is slightly bigger compared to the 6.67-inch flat AMOLED panel on the Redmi Note 14 5G. While it boasts 3,200 nits of peak brightness for HDR content as well.

Redmi Note 15 5G Design

The panel also supports a fast 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, an optical in-display fingerprint reader, and Xiaomi’s own “Dragon Crystal Glass” protection.

Xiaomi has even secured 3,840Hz PWM dimming for this screen alongside TÜV Rheinland’s eye-care certification for comfortable use at night. Whereas it’s got a stereo speaker setup with an interesting 300% volume boost feature.

Redmi Note 15’s build quality also looks decent with an IP66 dust/splash resistance and a thin-and-light body. Since it measures just 7.35mm thick and weighs just 178 grams.

Performance and Software

This time, Redmi has gone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset built on a 4nm process. Which brings a big performance upgrade over MediaTek chips that Xiaomi went with on both the Redmi Note 14 5G (review) and the Redmi Note 13 5G (review).

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3

And Xiaomi has paired it with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, while also leaving room for a microSD card in case you’d wanna add more. In terms of software, the all-new Redmi Note 15 ships with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 based on Android 15.

You may also like:

Camera and Battery

The Redmi Note 15 5G now has a similar camera design to its “Pro” siblings. And it now includes a 50MP f/1.8 Light Hunter 400 main shooter on the Redmi Note 15. Which is actually a downgrade compared to the 108MP f/1.7 ISOCELL HM6 main sensor on the global variant of Note 14 5G.

Its main camera even has a smaller sensor size at 1/2.88″ vs 1/1.67″. The only piece of good news here is that it can now shoot 4K 30 fps videos.

Xiaomi has also gotten rid of the useful 8MP ultrawide sensor this time and replaced the 2MP macro shooter with a 2MP depth unit. While the Note 14’s 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera has also been replaced by an 8MP sensor.

Redmi Note 15 5G Camera

Coming to the battery, the Redmi Note 15 5G has a huge 5,800 mAh battery and even a dedicated Surge G1 battery management chip. It supports 45W wired charging and 18W reverse wired charging as well.

Redmi Note 15 Specifications

  • Display: 6.77-inch FHD+ OLED (1080 x 2392 pixels), 120Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness, 12-bit colors

Insta360 GO Ultra goes official with a 221% larger image sensor!

Insta360 just dropped the GO Ultra, and they’ve basically redesigned their tiny action camera from the ground up. You’re getting a 221% bigger sensor compared to the Insta360 GO 3S, 4K 60 fps recording, and a completely new square design that ditches the pill shape we’ve seen before. Let’s dive into this article, where I will discuss everything about the latest Insta360 GO Ultra, including its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Insta360 GO Ultra Overview

A design revolution

The GO Ultra has completely changed its game with its new square design. At 1.8 inches × 1.8 inches, it’s still compact but feels more substantial than the pill-shaped GO 3S.

insta360 go ultra price in Nepal

At 53 grams, it’s about 14g heavier than its predecessor. But when you dock it with the case (which doubles as a charger and preview screen), the whole setup weighs just 110 grams.

What’s crazy is that even when docked, this thing is still lighter than competitors like the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro or Insta360’s own Ace Pro 2.

Sensor and performance leap

The best part about the Insta360 GO Ultra is that it now packs a 1/1.28″ sensor that’s over twice the size of the GO 3S. That’s paired with a 5nm chip and an ambient light sensor for better low-light capture.

In terms of recording modes, it can do 4K at 60 fps, 4K at 30 fps with Active HDR, and 1080p up to 240fps for slow-motion shots. Photography jumps up to 50MP with RAW support, which is pretty impressive for something this small.

Battery and durability

The built-in 500mAh battery on the GO Ultra gives you about 70 minutes of standalone recording. But the clever part is indeed that with the Action Pod, you can stretch that to around 200 minutes at lower recording settings. It’s IPX8 waterproof up to 33 feet and supports microSD cards up to 2TB, so storage shouldn’t be an issue either.

Mounting and software

The magnetic back of this tiny camera lets you stick it directly to metal surfaces. While Insta360’s accessory ecosystem includes an upgraded magnetic pendant for chest mounting, sticky tabs, and even a hat clip for kids.

The Insta360 app handles editing, plus you can overlay fitness data from Strava or paired smartwatches, which is a nice touch for workout videos.

Insta360 GO Ultra Specifications

  • Dimensions: 1.8 × 1.8-inch, 53 gm (110 gm with dock)
  • Camera: 1/1.28-inch sensor with f/2.85 aperture, 14.27mm focal length
  • Chipset: 5nm processor with an ambient light sensor
  • Video: 4K 60 fps, 4K 30 fps with Active HDR, 1080p 240fps
  • Photography: 50MP, RAW support
  • Battery: 500mAh built-in (~70min standalone, ~200min with Action Pod)
  • Waterproof: IPX8 rating (up to 33 feet)
  • Storage: microSD up to 2TB
  • Other: Magnetic mounting, Insta360 app, Fitness overlays

Insta360 GO Ultra Price in Nepal and Availability

The Insta360 GO Ultra is available in a couple of different packages, with the Standard Bundle going for USD 449.99. While the Creator Bundle with extra accessories like a mini tripod and pivot stand fetches USD 50 more. And when it launches here in Nepal, we expect the price of the Insta360 GO Ultra to start at NPR 70,999.

Itel Zeno 20 launched with a 90Hz display and Android 14 Go

0

Itel just dropped the Zeno 20, a budget phone that’s trying to pack some decent specs for less than hundre bucks. As you might already noticed, this isn’t really any specticular phone worth thinking about, but yet, you’re still getting a 90Hz display and Android 14 Go Edition, which is not bad for this price range. Okay without further ado, let’s dive in this article, where i will discuss everything about the latest Itel Zeno 20, including its price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Itel Zeno 20 Overview

Display and Design

Itel Zeno 20

You’re getting a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and up to 90Hz refresh rate. For a budget phone, that 90Hz is actually nice to see – most phones in this range are still stuck at 60Hz. But as i told you earlier, the screen won’t blow you away with sharpness.  The phone comes in three colors: Starlit Black, Space Titanium, and Aurora Blue. It also packs IP54 rating, so it can handle some splashes and dust.

Performance and Storage

At its core is the Unisoc Tiger T7100 chipset. Again, not that great here, and it’s not going to win any speed contests, but it should handle basic tasks fine. You can get it with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, paired with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. There’s microSD support if you need more space.

Meanwhile, on the software front, it runs Android 14 Go Edition. That’s Google’s lightweight version designed specifically for budget phones, so it should actually run pretty smoothly on the limited hardware.

Camera and Battery

The camera setup is pretty basic – you’re getting a single 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. The 5,000 mAh battery is decent for this price range and should easily get you through a full day.

Software and Features

It runs with Itel’s Aivana 2.0 voice assistant that supports Hindi. There’s also DTS sound enhancements, which might help the audio quality a bit. Itel is throwing in one free screen replacement, which is actually pretty generous for a budget phone.

Itel Zeno 20 Specifications

  • Display: 6.6-inch IPS LCD, HD+, up to 90Hz
  • Processor: Unisoc Tiger T7100
  • RAM: 3GB / 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB / 128GB, expandable via microSD
  • Rear Camera: 13MP single camera
  • Front Camera: 8MP
  • Battery: 5,000 mAh
  • OS: Android 14 Go Edition
  • Other: IP54 rating, DTS sound, Aivana 2.0 voice assistant, free screen replacement

Itel Zeno 20 Price in Nepal and Availability

The Itel Zeno 20 starts at INR 5,999 (~$72) for early birds in India, with regular pricing at INR 6,249. When it makes it to Nepal, it would start at no less than NPR 10,500 for the base model.

Realme teases 15,000 mAh battery phone that could change everything

0

The idea of having a battery more than 6,000 mAh was barely doable just two years back. Some manufacturers achieved it, but they had to give up a lot of space and the phone ended up being heavy, making it not that feasible. 3-4 years back, it was mere fiction to think of a 5,000 mAh above battery. But here we are now, with Realme teasing about 10,000 and 15,000 mAh batteries. This article will discuss everything about the latest Realme 15,000 mAh concept phone, including its specifications and what this means for the future.

Realme 15,000 mAh Concept Phone Overview

From fiction to reality

Realme GT 7 Design

The idea of having a 10k+ battery is surely only seen in tablets, but as you might not know, some phones do feature it. Even more surprisingly, Oukitel’s entire brand is focused on making such phones, with batteries hitting up to 22,000 mAh. But it’s worth noticing – they are rugged phones designed for similar conditions, construction sites and rural places.

Realme has also been on the frontier of innovation, when they not even a year back demonstrated the ability to charge a phone in 4 minutes with a 300-watt charger.

Building on previous success

Back in May, Realme teased a GT Concept Phone with a 10,000 mAh battery. That phone had the industry’s highest 10% silicon ratio and an energy density of 887Wh/L. What was impressive was that it stayed slim for its battery size – just 8.5mm thick and barely over 200 grams. Now they’re back with something even crazier.

The 15,000 mAh beast

The new teaser shows a phone with a massive 15,000 mAh battery. Images reveal the “15000mAh” label printed right on the back cover, so they’re not being subtle about it. Realme claims this thing can do 50 hours of nonstop video streaming, which honestly sounds insane.

What’s wild is that despite the massive battery, it’s not unusually thick. We’re looking at the same 8.5mm thickness as the 10,000 mAh concept, with weight just slightly over 200 grams.

Technology behind the magic

It’s likely using the same silicon-anode chemistry as the 10,000 mAh model, just scaled up. This tech allows them to pack way more energy into the same space without making the phone a brick.

The question is how long would these batteries be able to consistently provide us such charge? And it begs the question – at what cost? And how would this change the way we unravel our life on socials when our phone battery never dies?

What does this mean for the future?

Realme will share more details on August 27th. But honestly, this is still a concept phone, meaning the tech is experimental and may not hit stores anytime soon.

Indeed, having a battery lasting this long would change everything. But we’re still waiting to see if this actually makes it to production, and more importantly, what the real-world trade-offs will be.

Honor Magic V Flip 2 is here with a 200MP camera and a new design

Honor has launched the Magic V Flip 2 in China. It’s the successor to the original Magic V Flip, and once again, Honor has collaborated with fashion designer Jimmy Choo for its design. So let’s jump into all the details regarding the features, specs of the Honor Magic V Flip 2, alongside its expected price in Nepal.

Honor Magic V Flip 2 Overview

New design and display

The Honor Magic V Flip 2 is available in four shades. Those being “Dawn Purple”, “Moon Shadow White”, “Titanium Sky Gray”, and “Dreamweaver Blue”. The Dreamweaver design is the special edition in collaboration with designer Jimmy Choo. Honor has decided to keep the large external display as seen in the Honor Magic V Flip, but now with a dual-camera setup.

This change replaces the mismatched lens design on the original Magic V Flip. The flash is also positioned in the lower half of the phone. It’s also IP58 + IP59 dust/water resistant, while Honor has also secured SGS Premium Certification for the phone’s drop protection.

Moving on, the Magic V Flip 2 has a 6.82-inch main display, while the cover screen is 4.0 inches. Both of them are LTPO OLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the main display has a global peak brightness of 1,800 nits and an HDR peak brightness of 5,000 nits. Compared to 2,800 nits and 3,600 nits for the cover display.

Powering the flip phone is a 5,500 mAh silicon-carbon battery that can be charged via an 80W charger. Honor’s latest flip phone even supports 50W wireless charging, and there’s also a smart charging mode to help extend the battery’s lifespan.

Redmi Note 15 Pro+ launched in China with Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 90W charging

0

Xiaomi just launched the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus in China alongside the Redmi Note 15 Pro, packing a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and a telephoto camera. But the chipset choice has left some fans scratching their heads. This article will discuss everything about the latest Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus, including its price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus Overview

Display and Design

Redmi Note 15 pro plus design and display

You’re getting a 6.83-inch quad-curved AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2712×1280) and 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a step up from the flat screen on the regular Pro model, giving you those premium curved edges.

One thing that caught my attention was the fiberglass back panel. Xiaomi claims it’s 10 times more durable than previous models, which sounds impressive on paper. The phone also gets full IP69K waterproofing, so it should handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

Performance and Confusion

At its core is either the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 SoC, which is a slightly upgraded version of  Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 has sparked some disappointment, as some expected a more significant upgrade over the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. It’s paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, which is strangely a step backward compared to the regular Pro’s LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 combo.

Camera Changes

You’re getting a 50MP main camera with OIS using the Light Hunter 800 sensor, a 50MP telephoto with 2.5x zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide. The front camera bumps up to 32MP.

This has led to mixed reactions, with some preferring the higher megapixel count and others appreciating the telephoto addition. The regular Pro had a 108MP main camera (though it was likely just pixel-binned), so this feels like a downgrade in numbers, even if the actual sensor might be better.

Battery and Software

The massive 7,000 mAh battery returns, but now you get 90W fast charging instead of the 45W on the regular Pro.  It runs Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0 out of the box, which is nice to see. You also get a 1115mm² dual speaker setup and an X-axis linear motor for better haptic feedback.
