Ultima is one of, if not, the most popular accessories brands hailing from Nepal. The company has been expanding its portfolio recently. They introduced their first-ever soundbars and the Soundbox speaker series earlier this month. Now Ultima is bringing four new power banks under its “Boost” series and we are here to discuss all about them, including their price in Nepal.

The homegrown Nepali brand has been offering power banks since its inception and they did so under two series — Atom and Boost. The former consisted of two choices while the latter had three. Now Ultima is updating the Boost power bank series with four new members — 10K Mini, 20K Pro, 20K Ultra, and 30K Pro!

1. Ultima Boost 10K Mini

While this power bank might be the smallest in the bunch, it’s the one with the coolest of features. Firstly, just as its name suggests, it is a 10,000 mAh unit, equivalent to 37Wh. It has one each of USB-A and USB-C ports and offers a maximum power output of 22.5W with support for various charging protocols. What sets it apart from the rest of its compatriots is that it comes with a built-in wireless charger. The Ultima Boost 10K Mini power bank outputs 15W of speed wirelessly and also has a kickstand. However, it is the only one with an LED indicator instead of a digital display for battery insight.

It lacks the wireless charging port the one 10K Mini has, but gains double the battery capacity. It now has a 20,000mAh typical battery capacity, translating to 74Wh energy capacity. With a sleep-looking open design and packed with features, these latest Open earbuds have already made quite some ripples on the internet. The Ear (open) stands out with its wrap-around ear hooks and see-through casing, showcasing the internal circuitry. Each earbud weighs 8.1 grams and comes with IP54 dust and splash resistance, ensuring they withstand daily wear. These earbuds feature an on-ear design with silicone ear hooks and a semi-transparent build, maintaining the signature Nothing aesthetic. The 2023 edition of the G15 packs the latest gaming components from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA and comes in eye-catching colors. The space where Dell put the new G-series of gaming laptops on display was full of retro arcade machines for the 80s-inspired laptops to blend in. At this year’s CES, Acer refreshed the Predator Helios series of gaming laptops. The lineup is now streamlined and consists of just two models, namely Helios 16 and Helios 18. The former is already available for purchase in Nepal. So, let’s get into the specs, features, price, and availability of the Acer Predator Helios 16 (2023) in Nepal.

Performance and Cooling

Let’s start with performance—the new Helios 16 brings the latest gaming processors from Intel and NVIDIA. On the high end, it comes with the Core i9-13900HX processor. It is a “desktop-level” mobile processor with 24 cores and a max turbo frequency of 3.90GHz. Acer offers the laptop with the 14-core Core i7-13700H as well.

The Raptor Lake gaming CPUs are complemented by NVIDIA’s RTX 40-series GPU. There are four Ada Lovelace-based GPU models up for grabs. And all four are now available in Nepal: RTX 4050, 4060, 4070, and RTX 4080 (165W).

Design and Display

Acer has also redesigned the Predator laptops from the ground up. The new Helios 16 looks more subtle with clean edges and a revamped rear panel. The latter now houses a light bar just above the exhaust vents. It is also where some of the ports are located, including two Thunderbolt 4, one HDMI, and a power-in. The rest of the ports are three UBS 3.2 Gen 2, one ethernet, an SD card reader, a combined audio jack, and a Kensington lock. They are spread across the two sides.

Lastly, Acer Predator Helios 16 brings a 16:10 WQXGA display supporting Advanced Optimus. The 250Hz Mini-LED option is not available in Nepal, so you will have to go with either 165Hz or 240Hz IPS. The latter also has 100% DCI-P3 coverage compared to the sRGB coverage of the former.

Xiaomi overtakes Apple to become the #2 smartphone brand! 🤯

The smartphone market is constantly changing, however, it usually follows a similar pattern. Apple and Samsung racing for the top spot, while the other companies chase the dust they leave behind. Recently, the script has flipped on its head, and Apple lost its stronghold to slip into third position. This drop coincides with the growth of Xiaomi, making the Chinese manufacturer the second-largest smartphone brand in the world!

What’s going on?

If we look at the graph below, we can see that Xiaomi has claimed the second spot in global smartphone sales. This is not the first time though, as it happened three years prior — back in August 2021. After that, the company along with others, hit a bit of a rough patch. It has then recovered its position and has been steadily improving since 2023. As such, Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to become the second-largest smartphone brand in the world.

In the same graph, we can also see that Apple moves in cycles with a similar story every year. Its sales slowly dips every month reaching the lowest in August. Then the company launches the new iPhones in September, and sales go through the roof. It then rises to the second or even overtakes Samsung to become the No.1 smartphone brand in the world. It did so in 2023, pumping out the most sales in the last three years. Meanwhile, Samsung operates in a more steady space all year round without such drastic changes in its sales.

How did Xiaomi become the second largest smartphone brand?

It appears to be a case of Apple dipping down to the third spot, rather than Xiaomi rising to become the second-largest smartphone brand. While that may be true, the latter is indeed growing at its own pace. This is thanks to the new product, sales and channel strategy they adopted after the supply struggles in 2022 and the first half of 2023.

Xiaomi has expanded to newer markets while keeping its product line simple with one prime offering in every price range. Its sub-brand Redmi has been competing head-to-head with Samsung in the budget segment. And its premium offerings have been no-slouch either. Critics have praised the Xiaomi 14 series and their foldable phones have also been making a name for themselves. As a result, the Chinese brand has pulled 22% year-over-year growth in the first half of 2024.
