TCL introduces two new premium 4K HDR TVs in the Nepali market

EOL Pvt. Ltd., the official distributor of TCL TVs in Nepal, has just launched three new 4K UHD TVs in the market. Here, we will be looking at the specs, features, official price, and availability of the newly launched TCL C728 (55″ and 65″) and TCL P725 (75″) TVs in Nepal.

TCL QLED 4K TV C728 Overview:

Let’s start with TCL C728 which is a more premium offering than the P725. It is available in two sizes: 55″ and 65″. TCL has used a Quantum Dot layer on top of an LED panel for better color reproduction.

In addition, there’s TCL’s HDR Pro technology for added depth. Dolby Vision IQ uses a light sensor to optimize Dolby Vision content based on the brightness of the room. TCL C728 even has a 120Hz MEMC that upscales the content to 120Hz for smoother transitions.

Design and Display

Compared to its predecessor, the design of the new HP Envy 13 has remained the same for the most part. Moto Edge X30 launched as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered phone

Motorola has beaten the likes of Xiaomi and Realme in launching the world’s first smartphone powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The company unveiled the Moto Edge X30 as its latest flagship phone in China. So, let’s look at the specs, features, expected price, and availability of Moto Edge X30 in Nepal.

Moto Edge X30 Overview:

While it’s all hearsay for now, the Moto Edge X30 is rumored to launch under the “Moto Edge 30” moniker in the international market.

Performance and Memory

Like I mentioned earlier, the Moto Edge X30 is the first phone to be powered by the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm. The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers a 20% boost in CPU and a 30% boost in GPU performance compared to Snapdragon 888/888+.

Similarly, AI has been improved by 400%. With this chip, the Moto Edge X30 was able to score 1,061,361 in AnTuTu. Complementing this is 8/12GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 128 or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

Users can choose between three memory configurations here: 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/256GB. On the other hand, the phone runs on Motorola’s MYUI 3.0 based on Android 12.

Design and Display

Moto Edge X30 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED panel with a 10-bit color depth. The standard version of the phone features a center-aligned punch-hole cutout whereas Motorola has also released a Special Edition with an under-display camera and seamless display.

The Special Edition is also known as the “Under-Screen Camera Version”. Regardless, both editions of the phone support a 144Hz refresh rate and 576Hz touch-sampling rate. They are also HDR10+ certified.

Moving on, the phone flaunts a triple camera setup at the back. Here, the 50MP primary camera uses a 1/1.55″ OmniVision sensor with a 2.0μm superpixel (4-in-1 binned). It also has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for stable video recording.

Accompanying this is a 50MP ultrawide sensor with a 117° Field of View (FoV). Completing the setup is a 2MP depth sensor. The rear camera is capable of recording 8K videos and 960fps slow-motion.

Over on the front, Motorola has included a 60MP OmniVision sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. As per the company, it can capture RAW photos, too.

And this is where the only difference between the standard and Special Edition of the phone surface. While the regular Edge X30 houses the 60MP sensor inside the aforementioned punch-hole cutout, the Special Edition hides it under the display.

Apple halts iPhone production as it is hit by the ongoing chip shortage

Apple, which first seemed immune to the global chip shortage because of the industry preference, is now facing the common consequences. As per the latest reports, the company is facing difficulties to meet its initial production goals.

Also, Apple has reportedly halted the production of iPhones and iPads at a time when it should’ve been ramping up production to meet the holiday season’s demand. Here, we will be digging deeper into the recent chip shortage woes of Apple.

Apple and chip shortage: Everything to know

Apple launched the iPhone 13 series earlier this year with an ambition to ship 90 million units in Q4 2021. However, in October, Bloomberg reported that the company had already reduced the goal by 10 million units, owing to chip shortage.

Apple even acknowledged the setbacks caused by the chip shortage and other complications due to COVID-19 in its financial report for the September quarter. The productions lines for iPads suffered even worse with reports from Nikkei Asia claiming the production had dipped by 50%.

What’s causing these disruptions?

Interestingly, it’s not the latest A15 Bionic chip or 5G components that Apple has problems with. Instead, it’s the components like transceivers, power management chips, and other sensors that are disrupting iPhone production.

These components are usually small and some are even as cheap as $1, but they are common across multiple consumer electronics.

Apple could not get enough camera sensors from Sharp because of the lockdown in Vietnam during October. Likewise, the COVID-19 emergencies in Malaysia affected the process of testing and packaging the chips. In addition, the recent energy crisis in China further worsened the situation.

Apple’s financial hits

So, Apple has suffered financially because of these delays. Estimates suggest that it’s cost the company about $3 to $4 billion in the April-June quarter. It then missed out on an additional $6 billion worth of revenue in the next quarter. In addition, Apple expects to take greater hits in the December quarter because of the same reasons.

Even in the smartphone industry, Xiaomi expects a drop of 1 to 20 million units in its yearly shipment. Therefore, both of them will be missing out on huge Christmas and New Year sales.

In the console industry, Nintendo is reportedly making 20% fewer Switch devices because of the chip scarcity. Additionally, a lot of other companies including Acer, Wiwynn, and Advantech are failing to meet their respective demands as well.

Chinese stockpiling

One of the non-pandemic concerns contributing to the present condition is the political tension between US and China. The US government has been actively banning Chinese companies and cutting them off from the global supply chain. This has thus ignited fear among Chinese brands, which then started stockpiling components.

For instance, China-based Hua Hong Semiconductor’s inventory has increased by 292% since 2018. Similarly, SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation) has also seen a 58% increase in its inventory in the same period. Other companies that are found to be stockpiling components include Sugon, Dahua, Hikvision, Inspur, and even Xiaomi.

Increased demand in the pandemic

While discussing chip shortage, it’s important to note that the demand for smartphones, PCs, and other electronic goods has significantly increased in the last year. The pandemic even took the struggling Android tablet market to new heights.

This increased demand for chips meant foundries were completely booked till the end of 2021. However, the resurgence of the automobile industry towards the end of 2020 added further complexities to the overall supply chain.

Chipmakers faced government-level pressure to prioritize the automobile industry. This has resulted in the shortage of chips and the subsequent price hike, which in some cases are up to a whopping 300%.

Design and Display

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the smartphone, PC, and several other industries are suffering chip shortages. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, however, expects the global chip shortage to ease up by next year.

Increase in supply

According to a report from TheElec, Qualcomm’s CEO stated that supply for their chipset has increased since 2020. Likewise, he expects it to get even better in 2022—especially when compared to 2020.

Smartphone manufacturers have struggled to meet market demand due to chip shortages. There are even reports that manufacturers have delayed or canceled their product(s) as a result of the scarcity. Take the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE for instance. Although the phone is now said to be in the works, it had to be delayed multiple times—which demonstrates just how much businesses are suffering because of chip shortage.

Furthermore, in mid-year, Samsung Mobile Chief TM Roh and Procurement Executive visited the United States to meet with semiconductor manufacturers to secure chip supplies.

On the other hand, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger predicts that the worldwide chip scarcity would last until 2023. Likewise, Arm CEO Simon Segars has warned that the situation would deteriorate much more.

Lose for one, win for other

After Qualcomm experienced difficulties with chip supply, smartphone makers turned their focus over to MediaTek. It resulted in a huge increase in their market share, and MediaTek managed to offer its chipset on budget to premium mid-range phones.

Could the chip shortage really ease next year?

Both smartphone chipmakers recently launched their next-generation flagship SoCs. While Qualcomm has gone with Samsung foundry for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, MediaTek uses TSMC’s 4nm process for the Dimensity 9000. However, it remains to be seen if both these chipmakers would be able to fulfill the market demand.

Last month, Motorola launched the Moto G51 5G in China. It is the first phone to be powered by the new Snapdragon 480+ chip. The phone is set to launch in the Nepali market soon as well. So, let’s walk through the specs, features, expected price, and availability of Moto G51 5G in Nepal.

Moto G51 5G sports a polycarbonate body that is 9.13mm thick and weighs around 208 grams. The phone also has an official IP rating of IP52.
