Noise, one of India’s popular wearable brands, has teamed up with Bose for its upcoming “Master Series.” This is a big deal for Noise, as they’re bringing Bose’s amazing sound quality to their products. While we don’t know all the details yet, we’re sure it’s going to be something premium. Without any delay, let’s dive into the details.

Noise and Bose Collaboration

In 2023, Noise made headlines with the announcement of its first-ever funding round, which included a strategic investment from Bose. While the company has not disclosed the exact investment amount and the percentage of stake acquired by Bose, the partnership signals a major step for Noise.

So today, I have Xiaomi’s new Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G in for review. It starts at exactly 50,000 rupees here in Nepal, and considering all the competition, it doesn’t look half bad.

Not because this thing is absolutely terrific or anything, but the Nepali smartphone doesn’t have any worthy competition to it compared to the Indian market. Where you have some fantastic midrange phones like the OnePlus Nord 4 (review), Realme 14 Pro+ (review), Motorola Edge 50 Pro, or iQOO’s Neo lineup.

So should you buy the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G? Let’s find out in this review.

Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G Review:

Design and Build

When I first got my hands on Redmi Note 14 Pro+, I was already impressed with its design and display. The hands-on feel is also comfortable — and not to mention — the cute “Phantom Purple” color it comes with.

On the back, we get Gorilla Glass 7i protection while it has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protecting the display. The Note 14 Pro+ is also IP68 rated against dust and water damage, although its Indian variant even has IP66 and IP69 ratings. It’s not really that big of a deal and overall, I think Xiaomi has done a great job with the design and build quality this time.

Display

  • 120Hz refresh rate, 12-bit colors

Its display is equally impressive with a slight curve on the side. You’re looking at a 120Hz AMOLED screen that delivers great brightness both indoors and outdoors.

In fact, this is the phone with the brightest display in this price range. Featuring a peak brightness of 3000 nits. So whether you’re watching normal SDR videos or enjoying HDR content on YouTube, the display on the Note 14 Pro+ is a treat. Xiaomi has also paired with a great set of stereo speakers and a sharp X-axis vibration motor so yeah.

Performance

For the performance, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ features a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3… which honestly feels a bit underwhelming. Compared to MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200-Ultra on Note 13 Pro+, this is not a notable improvement I’d say. And the real-world performance didn’t feel much of an upgrade either.

And in terms of gaming, I played three demanding games between these two: PUBG Mobile, Genshin Impact, and Mobile Legends. The results? PUBG on the Note 13 Pro+ had an average fps of 56, while the Note 14 Pro+ pushed that to 59 fps. In Genshin Impact, the fps difference was minimal, but in Mobile Legends the older model won the battle.

So yeah, I was expecting more from this phone’s performance. Maybe it’s because older Redmi phones were performance-focused, but I’m honestly finding it difficult to digest these “downgrades” year over year. What’s even more disappointing is that the Note 14 Pro+ still boots on Android 14-based HyperOS 1.0. Effectively turning its 3+4 years of update policy into 2+4 years when you really think about it.

Cameras

  • Triple camera setup at the back
  • (200MP main, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro)
  • 20MP selfie camera (hole-punch cutout)

Moving on to the cameras, I’m sad to say that I don’t have much good news either. Redmi 14 Pro+ packs the same camera setup as its predecessor and I mean… why? We at least deserve an upgrade when the series gets a new version, right? It’s got the same 200MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro shooter.

Its Indian variant does have a newer 50MP Sony sensor and a 2.5X telephoto lens, but I have no idea why Xiaomi decided to skip that on the global models.

It could have been considerable if at least the optimization was better, but sadly we don’t get that as well. I compared it with the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ and on most occasions, it took better-looking photos than this guy. Quite unexpected stuff.

The photos from Note 14 Pro+ have that signature boost in terms of colors and contrast. But the highlight management? Well, let’s just say it could use some work. I am crossing my fingers for an update that fixes things, although I’m not holding my breath honestly.

As for portraits, I found the Note 13 Pro+ to be doing a better job once again.

They both could use a little more polish in terms of how skin tone is handled but yeah. And it’s the same with selfies as well, so I’m just hoping a future update will fix all this.

That 8MP ultra-wide camera didn’t impress me either. Nothing special, not much details, and the colors remain, well… okayish.

Then again, Redmi Note 14 Pro+ takes great lowlight photos. Thanks to OIS. The results were sharp, punchy, and with great color rendition. Turns out you might not even need to turn on the night mode in most cases.

Videography

As for videos, that 7s Gen 3 processor on this guy doesn’t support 4K 60 fps recording. And at 4K 30 fps mode, the videos still turn out a bit shaky. Which means Xiaomi could’ve optimized the gyro-based EIS much better. The selfie videos, on the other hand, max out at 1080p 60 fps. And like the ones from the main camera, the selfie videos from Note 14 Pro+ aren’t that impressive as well.

Let’s talk about the one area where I won’t complain: battery life. The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ comes with a 5110 mAh battery, which lasted me about 7 hours of screen time on average. Plus, with 120W fast charging, I was able to get it to 100% in just half an hour. Not bad at all.

To wrap up this review, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G is clearly a “could have been better” phone for me. It’s not that bad but there’s definitely a big room for improvement. While it offers good features like in terms of the display, design, speakers, and haptics, the software and camera side of things could’ve used some work.

So, is it worth the price? I’m kinda hesitant to say “yes”, although considering the fact that there’s really not much competition in the NPR 50,000 segment, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ does make sense.

Asus is gearing up to launch the Zenfone 12 Ultra in the first week of February. The company has teased a few things about the upcoming smartphone including a ‘makeover’ so let’s get right into what we know and expect of the Zenfone 12 Ultra including possible specifications, and expected pricing.

The Zenfone series from Asus was quite popular for its compact design, but with the launch of the Zenfone 11 Ultra, it kind of lost its charm as just another big Android.

Looks like the brand has no plans on going back with an official tease revealing the existence of a ‘Zenfone 12 Ultra’. Although we don’t know any other information about the series as a whole, it’s safe to assume that we won’t get a small phone this time either.

The teaser shows the front of the upcoming Zenfone 12 Ultra revealing slimmer bezels and a centered hole-punch slot for the front camera.

Performance

Moreover, the Zenfone 12 Ultra recently appeared on Geekbench, revealing that the device will likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM. The phone will run on Android 15 with ZenUI on top. Additionally, Asus will integrate advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) features into the device. However, we are not sure what exactly these features are yet.

On the front, it may sport a 32-megapixel camera for selfies.

With the evolution of mobile networks, voice calls have moved beyond traditional cellular connections. And two key technologies, VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) and VoLTE (Voice over LTE), which might be something you might have seen a lot on the internet are now changing how we make voice calls. Let’s break down both technologies, how they work, and their impact on call quality and coverage.

Explained: VoLTE / VoLTE

What is VoWiFi?

VoWifi Calling

VoWiFi allows you to make voice calls over a Wi-Fi network rather than relying on the cellular network. This technology works by routing your voice call through your internet connection, which can be especially useful in areas with weak mobile coverage but strong Wi-Fi. What i mean is Vo Wifi is not a separate third thing, but something of specialized technology of WiFi itself.

So when you’re in a building or location where cellular reception is poor, like something of an underground area, dense buildings, or rural zones— VoWiFi ensures you don’t miss networking. In essence, a stable Wi-Fi connection is enough to make and receive calls without interruptions. In addition, the VoWiFi is also available for NTC users (altho it depends whether the device supports or not)

The Benefits of VoWiFi

  1. Call Quality: In places where cellular signals are weak, VoWiFi leverages a strong Wi-Fi connection. Hence, a much much better call clarity.
  2. Costs: VoWiFi calls use less data compared to standard cellular calls.

What is VoLTE?

VoLTE aka or Voice over LTE, is a technology that allows voice calls to be made over a 4G LTE network, instead of older 2G or 3G networks. The major benefit here is the use of a high-speed data network, which results in better voice quality and faster call setup times compared to traditional voice calls.

VoLTE uses data packets to transmit voice, rather than using circuit-switched voice channels, which means you can use high-definition voice calls along with the data services available on 4G. Then what is the difference between LTE and VoLTE? Well, LTE is a high-speed data network designed for internet use, while VoLTE is a specialized technology that enables voice calls over the LTE network.

The Advantages of VoLTE

  1. Voice Quality: VoLTE offers crystal-clear voice calls, often referred to as HD Voice, which significantly improves your call experience.
  2. Call Connection: VoLTE helps establish quicker calls compared to legacy networks.
  3. Data Use: Unlike older networks, VoLTE allows you to use mobile data (browsing, streaming) during calls without affecting the quality of your voice connection.

Ncell and NTC’s Use of VoLTE

In Nepal, both Ncell and NTC offer 4G services, but the frequency bands they use for VoLTE are pretty different..

Ncell has recently expanded its 4G service to include Band 1 (2100 MHz), a band previously used for 3G. Now, Ncell uses Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 8 (900 MHz), and Band 1 (2100 MHz) for VoLTE calls, offering a combination of good coverage and high-speed data. Specifically, Ncell allocates 5 MHz of bandwidth from Band 1 for 4G (with 10 MHz still dedicated to 3G), 20 MHz from Band 3, and 5 MHz from Band 8, bringing a total of 30 MHz for its 4G network.

On the other hand, NTC (Nepal Telecom) uses Band 3 (1800 MHz) and Band 20 (800 MHz) for VoLTE. Band 3 offers fast speeds for urban areas, while Band 20 provides better coverage, particularly in rural and remote areas, thanks to its lower frequency. 

NTC officially unveils VoWiFi in Nepal

On its 21st anniversary, Nepal Telecom has officially unveiled VoWiFi service in Nepal. Now-supported devices can make use of WiFi Calling. Despite it being officially announced today, we have been using this service for the past two years already.

Design

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 represents a step forward in Samsung’s foldable smartphone evolution, with a design that builds upon the successes of its predecessor. At the same time, it maintains the iconic clamshell form factor.

The sixth iteration of Samsung’s foldable has gone official today in Nepal. It brings a lighter chassis and other iterative upgrades over its predecessor. And we have a new massive price drop for this phone. In this article, let’s take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, its specifications, official price in Nepal, and availability.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Overview

An improved design and display

While it is not a design overhaul, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 brings a couple of distinctive changes. Firstly, the hinge has been redesigned alongside the internals to improve durability and fit a larger vapor chamber, and the overall dimensions have shifted to a more boxier approach.

That’s to say that the new Fold is a bit shorter (1.5mm) and wider (2.9mm) than the Fold 5. It is also lighter now weighing under 240 grams (239 grams) which is just around the mark of what regular flagships weigh.

Furthermore, the new design also makes the fold more resistant against debris and dust particles earning it an IP48 rating against the IPX8 in the Fold 5. All that’s to say, Samsung is refining things here and tweaking things there in this iteration.

Finally, as expected, Samsung has promised a whopping 7 years of Android updates for the Z Fold 6.
