Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is here with massive performance boost

Qualcomm recently unveiled a new upper-midrange chipset, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Without releasing the previously rumored Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or 7 Gen 2. Let’s know more about Qualcomm’s new chipset along with its availability in the market.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Overview:

Better performance and power efficiency

Qualcomm claims that this new chipset outperforms its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, in terms of performance and power efficiency. Manufactured under TSMC’s 4nm (N4) process node, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 has a “1+3+4” CPU architecture. The main CPU core (Cortex-X2) here is clocked at 2.91 GHz, and the company says the 7+ Gen 2 outperforms the 7 Gen 1 by 50% in CPU performance.

The rest of the CPU cluster consists of 3x Cortex-A710 (@2.49 GHz) and 4x Cortex-A510 (@1.8 GHz) cores. On the other hand, its unnamed Adreno GPU has a 2x performance boost, whereas Qualcomm claims 13% better power efficiency as well. As for memory, it has support for LPDDR5 RAM (up to 3200 MHz) and UFS 3.1 storage.

What else?

To save power and resources, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 includes “Auto Variable Rate Shading,” which renders foreground gaming scenes in high resolution while leaving the background in low resolution. Qualcomm has also included the “Volumetric Rendering” feature, previously seen on the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.

For better low-light photography, the ISP has been upgraded to an 18-bit Triple ISP, which involves stacking 30 images into one. This chipset supports 200MP sensors, as well as HDR video capture with dual cameras capturing triple exposure at the same time.

In terms of artificial intelligence, Qualcomm’s AI Engine on the 7+ Gen 2 now provides 2x improved performance and 40% battery savings per watt. This chip uses the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System for connectivity, with download speeds of up to 4.4 Gbps. Phones powered by this chip can use the 4G/5G Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) feature too. Likewise, it supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 technology.

Sony WF-1000XM5 leaks hint towards refreshed design, faster charging

Sony’s flagship pair of wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM4, has been on the market for two years. And it looks like the company is finally ready to unveil its successor, the WF-1000XM5. Let’s take a look at the rumored specifications, as well as the expected price and availability of the upcoming Sony WF-1000XM5.

Compact design

These earbuds were recently discovered in the FCC database. Photos from the database revealed that the WF-1000XM5 will be more compact than its predecessor. This is a big relief because Sony’s flagship earbuds have always been quite bulky, even though the WF-1000XM4 was quite slimmer compared to the WF-1000XM3.

The case will be made of matte plastic (presumably from recycled materials), and Sony will use two pins instead of three to charge the earbuds inside the case. We can see also two holes on the left earbud of Sony WF-1000XM5, one of which is expected to be the microphone. But its exact type is unknown for now; it could be either a feedforward (for ANC) or a voice microphone.

According to the FCC listing, a touch panel integrated with the Bluetooth antenna will also be present on the exterior surface. Likewise, its exterior surface design could be similar to the Sony LinkBuds S.

Fast charging

We can also expect fast charging this time around because the case has a 5V 230mAh rating, which is higher than the 5V 140mAh on the XM4. Wireless charging will also be available on the Sony WF-1000XM5. And a subtle design change we can see is that Sony has moved the LED lighting from the inside of the case to the front.

What else?

The certification also included some case teardown photos, primarily of the main PCB. We can see that the wireless charging standard will be Qi again. And unlike the WF-1000XM4, its battery will be soldered to the PCB (printed circuit board). But the wireless charging coil won’t be soldered.

Finally, there appears to be a button to the right of the USB-C port, similar to the one found on the LinkBuds S. This button is used for initial setup, pairing, and resetting.

These flagship earbuds from Sony are expected to go official later this year. Considering its predecessor went for USD 280 at launch, we expect the Sony WF-1000XM5 to cost somewhere under USD 300 as well.

Honor has added a new member to its X-series in Nepal. The Honor X5 is a budget-phone with which was released globally a couple of months ago. Here, we will get to the specifications, features, availability, and official price of the Honor X5 in Nepal.

Honor X5 Overview:

Design and Display

While the X5 has a plastic build, Honor has made an effort to make the smartphone visually appealing. Here, the phone comes with a leather-texture design on the back which helps for a comfortable grip and keeps fingerprints and smudges at bay. It isn’t that bulky or thick either measuring 192 grams and 8.92 mm, respectively.

The phone is available in three color options: Sunrise Orange, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black. But the latter two are only available in Nepal, as of now.

OpenAI unveils GPT-4 AI langauge model with ability to understand images

OpenAI has finally taken the curtains off of the GPT-4. It’s the company’s latest AI language model that will power the ever-popular ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing chatbot, and other several platforms. The company claims the model is “more creative and collaborative than ever before” and “can solve difficult problems with greater accuracy.” More about OpenAI’s GPT-4 AI language model is in this article.

GPT-4 Overview:

OpenAI has undoubtedly made a name for itself with the phenomenal success of GPT 3.5-powered ChatGPT. The platform went viral almost instantly after its launch in November 2022; and in just five days it was able to reach one million users, the fastest for any platform to date.

Meanwhile, OpenAI was also readying the next iteration of the GPT language model, the GPT-4. But before the official announcement from the company itself, several hoaxes began to circulate in the market.

One of the most prominent rumors was that the GPT-4 will be 500 times more powerful than its predecessor. And will have the ability to write a 200-page book from scratch in less than a day. Well, OpenAI has launched the GPT-4, keeping those exaggerated rumors at bay.

Multimodal

Still, there are quite a few interesting upgrades, with one of the most significant being the addition of multimodal AI language. That is, it can now accept both text and image inputs. However, the responses to queries will still be in text format.

As seen in the above example, the GPT-4 is able to interpret a meme with proper explanation. It generates text outputs for interspersed text and image inputs. However, the image input is in the preview stage and is currently not available to the public.

In casual conversations though, the GPT-4 offers subtle differences from its predecessor. OpenAI does mention that the new model can handle comparatively complex thresholds with better outputs. But it is not as significant as you might expect it to be. Also, it’s now capable of handling 25,000 words of text, from the previous limit of 3000 words.

Scores above 80 Percentile

Moving on, OpenAI is also quite confident about the AI language model’s intelligence. The GPT-4 manages to score 88 percentiles and above on Uniform Bar Exam, LSAT, SAT Math, and SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing exams. The AI language is said to have gone through six months of safety training to achieve this output.

Still not flaw-free

GPT-4 is still not flawless. The company has admitted several known limitations such as social biases, hallucinations, and adversarial prompts. Also, GPT-4 still lacks knowledge about events that happened before September 2021.

The AI language model is available to try from ChatGPT Plus with a paid subscription of USD 20 per month. The company has announced a partnership with Duolingo, Stripe, and Khan Academy for integrating GPT-4 into their products. Redmi Smart Fire TV 32 goes official with 20W speakers, Fire OS

Xiaomi has launched a new smart TV in the Indian market, called the Redmi Smart Fire TV 32. This thing runs Amazon Fire OS (a first for Redmi) instead of Android TV, and it is also the first Xiaomi TV to support Apple AirPlay in the Indian market. Redmi Smart Fire TV 32 comes with nearly bezel-less metal frames with up to 96.9% screen-to-body ratio on 3 sides as claimed by Xiaomi. Excluding the base, it weighs 3.9 kg.

Poco X5 5G with Snapdragon 695, triple cameras launched in India

More than a month after launching the Poco X5 Pro, Poco India has finally launched the Poco X5 smartphone in India. In this article, we will be discussing the Poco X5 in more detail, including its specs, features, expected price, and availability in Nepal.

Poco X5 5G Overview:

The X series fills in the void between the entry-level C and the flagship F series in Poco’s hierarchy. Poco didn’t release a vanilla model last year and resorted to just X4 Pro last year. However, this year it brought the vanilla X5 to replace the two-year-old Poco X3.

Performance

One of the biggest changes between X3 and X5 lies on the inside. While the X3 packed the Snapdragon 732G, the new X5 comes with the Snapdragon 695 chip. This put the X5 5G in the same league as last year’s X4 Pro 5G in terms of performance.

Talking about the Snapdragon 695, it is a 6nm chip with an integrated 5G modem. It brings two Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz with six 1.7GHz Cortex-A55 performance cores backing them.

Moreover, the Adreno 619 GPU on the Snapdragon 695 is a higher-clocked version of the Adreno 618 on the 732G. The memory option for the smartphone includes up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

Except for the chipset, Poco X5 5G is replicates the specifications of the recently launched Redmi Note 12 5G.

Nokia to go all-in flagship with the Magic Max

Nokia joined the Android smartphone market not long ago. Following the acquisition by HMD Global in 2016, the company has since launched a number of products aimed at the entry-level and midrange markets. Now, the brand is making its move toward the flagship segment with the Nokia Magic Max smartphone. Also making headlines for an impending launch is the Nokia C99. But here we will discuss the Nokia Magic Max in detail.

Nokia Magic Max Overview:

Before jumping to the Nokia Magic Max, let’s first talk about the recent changes in Nokia. The company recently introduced a new logo after nearly six decades. Nokia replaced its traditional typeface with five different shapes to create the word Nokia and Yale Blue background with a range of colors.

The ThinkPad T14 is the most advanced business laptop in Lenovo’s arsenal and the most successful one. Last year, Lenovo refreshed the design with the latest Intel and AMD processors and a new 16:10 design. It is now available in Nepal. So, let’s get into the specs, features, price, and availability of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 (2022) in Nepal.

New 16:10 Design

Starting with 2022, Lenovo is offering 16:10 screens on the ThinkPad T series laptops— a display previously available only on the ThinkPad X series. To accommodate the taller screen, the company has redesigned the bezels—they are noticeably slimmer, especially the button chin.

iQOO Z7i debuts as the first smartphone with Dimensity 6020 SoC

iQOO’s Z lineup is very popular among budget customers. While the iQOO Z7 is still under wraps, its younger sibling, the iQOO Z7i is now launched in China. It’s the world’s first phone to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G chipset. Let’s get into the specs, features, and expected price of the iQOO Z7i in Nepal.

Design and Display

Talking of the design, iQOO takes some cues from its Vivo siblings. The design here is pretty thin and lightweight with a thickness of 8.15mm and 186g weight. The Ice Panel version sports a reflective back panel while the Moon Shadow goes with a plain black, yet shiny finish. Likewise, the frame has flat edges, providing a boxy form factor to the Z7i. The smartphone has a 6.51-inch IPS LCD panel with a static 60Hz refresh rate. It has an HD+ resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels and supports up to 16.7 million colors with an 88.99% screen-to-body ratio.

Performance

The Z7i packs a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset under the hood, making it the first phone to pack this new SoC. This 5G silicon is based on TSMC’s 7nm fabrication process. It is an octa-core processor with two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz and six power-efficient cortex A-55 cores running at 2.0GHz. The graphics are handled by a Mali G57 GPU.

Looking at the core architecture, the Arm cores, and GPU are very identical to Dimensity 700 5G chip. So, iQOO might launch the Z7i with a Dimensity 700 processor instead globally, as the previous rumors suggested.

The smartphone is available in three memory configurations: 4/128GB, 6/128GB, and 8/128 GB. And it boots on OriginOS Ocean 13 (Funtouch OS 13) built on top of Android 13.

Camera

Coming to the optics, the iQOO Z7i houses a dual camera setup. The primary camera is an f/2.2 13MP sensor with autofocus, while the secondary lens is a 2MP macro unit. On the front side, you get a 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. Both front and back cameras are capable of recording up to 1080p videos at 30fps.

First introduced back in the CES, Gigabyte’s Aero 14 OLED (2023) has finally made it to the shelf recently. Boasting minimal aesthetics, the laptop comes with a 13th Gen CPU and RTX 40-series GPU. Here, we will go through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Gigabyte Aero 14 OLED (2023) in Nepal.

Design

The Aero 14 OLED is designed with office or mobile workers in mind. Thus, Gigabyte has made an effort to keep the laptop’s weight and thickness on the lighter side, which in this instance are 1.49kg and 17mm, respectively.

Even the build quality is pretty solid here. The lid is made of aluminum using the CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) technique which is a pre-programmed software for controlling the movement of production equipment. Gigabyte says the screen has 5,484,000 independent LED pixels alongside X-Rite color calibration 2.0 for vibrant and punchy colors. The aspect ratio is 16:10 which allows an increment of the viewing area by 12% compared to the 16:9 screen.

Moreover, the display is VESA DisplayHDR 600 TrueBlack certified, which is said to offer distinct blacks and whites with zero halos. On top of that, its TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe 2.0 eye protection certification ensures low blue light and flicker-free technology for the 14-inch OLED screen. Likewise, the display supports a 90Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 cinema-grade color gamut.

Performance

The Aero 14 2023 houses an Intel i7-13700H Raptor Lake CPU under the hood. This 13th Gen silicon has 6 performance cores, accompanied by 8 efficient cores, totaling 14 cores. It can run up to 20 threads with its 24MB cache. Likewise, the chip is stated to provide a 37% improvement over its 12th Gen counterpart.

Running the show for the graphics is an RTX 4050 laptop GPU with 70W of maximum TDP. With this, the laptop should suffice your light to medium creative workloads with ease. The RTX 4050 also enjoys next-gen Ray Tracing and DLSS support for immersive gaming performance.

To keep the thermals in check, there is “GIGABYTE Windforce Infinity cooling” technology which comprises dual 5V 72-blade fans. It’s said to create a low-noise experience of less than 24 dB while doing light tasks.
