Samsung details 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor ahead of Galaxy S23 Ultra launch

1

Samsung recently took the wraps off of its new image sensor, the ISOCELL HP2, which is expected to be featured in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra. The sensor boasts a 200MP resolution and reportedly offers improved image quality and low-light performance. More about Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HP2 Sensor in this article.

Samsung ISOCELL HP2 200MP Sensor:

For starters, this is not the first time that Samsung has announced a 200MP sensor. This is, in fact, the fourth generation of their ISOCELL HP sensor. The Motorola X30 Pro was the first smartphone to feature a 200MP camera powered by Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor with an f/1.95 aperture.

Then, there’s the ISOCELL HP3. We also have the 200MP Samsung HPX sensor, which was recently seen on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and is said to be reserved for Chinese-brands smartphones.

Samsung S23 Ultra Rumors Galaxy Flagship

However, Samsung will use the new ISOCELL HP2 sensor for the Galaxy S23 Ultra.  It is a 1/1.3-inch sensor with 0.6-micron pixels which is actually smaller than the ISOCELL HP1 (1/22-inch with 0.64-micron pixels) on the Moto X30 Pro.

However, Samsung claims that the ISOCELL HP2 is their most advanced camera sensor, thanks to the D-VTG (Dual Vertical Transfer Gate) technology, which increases each pixel’s full-well capacity by more than 33%. This results in better color reproduction and reduces the risk of overexposure, which often leads to washed-out images.

Likewise, as per Samsung, “the smaller sensor size enables consumers to enjoy even higher resolutions in the latest high-end smartphones without larger camera bumps in their devices”.

Faster autofocus, better HDR

Furthermore, thanks to Tetra²Pixel binning technology, the new sensor will provide multiple resolution options for shooting. For instance, users can shoot images at 12.5MP (16-in-1 pixel binning), 50MP (4-in-1 binning), or even the full 200MP resolution.

In low-light conditions, the sensor can transform into a 1.2μm 50-megapixel or 2.4μm 12.5-megapixel by combining four to 16 neighboring pixels. Similarly, for fuller 8K video, the HP2 switches to 1.2m 50MP mode to minimize cropping and capture more of the scene.

Moreover, thanks to its Super QPD technology, the ISOCELL HP2 also provides faster and more reliable autofocus in low-light conditions. This new technology employs all of its 200MP pixels as focusing agents, combining four adjacent pixels on the sensor to recognize both horizontal and vertical pattern changes for faster auto-focusing, even in low-light situations.

To improve HDR, Samsung is also introducing the DSG feature for the first time in 50MP mode. It employs a technique that digitizes each pixel’s exposure data at two different scales to collect both bright and dark data.

And, given the sensor’s large number of pixels, optimizing some pixel quartets for bright light and others for dimmer light shouldn’t be a problem. In addition, there’s a new Smart ISO Pro feature, which enables users to capture 12.5MP images and 4K 60fps videos in HDR.

Samsung ISOCELL HP2 Specifications

  • Effective Resolution: 16,384 x 12,288 (200MP)
  • Pixel Size: 0.6μm
  • Sensor-size: 1/1.3″
  • Pixel-Binning: Tetra²pixel;
    – 12.5MP (16-in-1 pixel binning)
    – 50MP (4-in-1 binning)
    – 200MP
  • Video Frame Rate: 8K@30fps, 4K@120fps, 1080p@480p
  • Auto Focus: Super QPD
  • HDR: Smart-ISO Pro, Dual slope gain

Samsung ISOCELL HP2 Availability

The Samsung ISOCELL HP2 200MP sensor is now in mass production. And, as aforementioned, we expect to see it in action first in the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Best 24-inch Gaming Monitors in Nepal [Updated]

In this article, we’ll be taking a peek at the best 24-inch gaming monitors in Nepal. This list will only include 1080p monitors as it is the sweet spot for gaming on a 24-incher. For gamers in the midrange segment, this category offers some of the best bang-for-the-buck high refresh rate monitors.

Also, going for a larger 1080p monitor, for example, 27″, results in notably lower pixel density. Likewise, going for 1440p or 4K resolution on a 24″ monitor won’t make much of a difference in terms of clarity. However, the higher resolution can be taxing on mid/low-end GPUs, resulting in lower frame rates.

So with the feature set and pricing in mind, here are the seven best 24-inch gaming monitors you can buy in Nepal in 2023. Not only that, we’ve got you covered with a few discount codes for some of the monitors.

Best 24-inch gaming monitors in Nepal 2023 (Summary)

This is among the most affordable 24″ gaming monitors on our list. For under 30k, you get a 23.8-inch TN display with a high 144Hz refresh rate. The display is rated for 350 nits and has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio.

It covers about 95% of sRGB and 77% of DCI-P3 color space. While it is not the best in terms of picture quality, it does a good job for a budget monitor. Playing games and content consumption should not be an issue.

Best 24-inch gaming monitors in Nepal - Dell S2421HGF

The build quality is respectable as well. Dell offers a sturdy stand with height and tilt adjustments.

Being a TN panel, it also has the advantage of a fast 1ms GTG response time. So if you are on a tight budget, this one is a no-brainer.

Dell S2421HGF Specifications:

6. MSI Optix G24C4

The MSI G24C4 is the curved VA panel sibling of the MSI G241. Being a VA panel it is prone to black-level smearing. Thus, the MSI G241 with its IPS panel reigns superior when it comes to gaming.

Likewise, the text clarity is not as good, so, avoid this monitor if you work with a lot of text.

Best 24-inch Gaming Monitors: MSI Optix G24C4

On the other hand, if you spend much of your time binging on movies when not gaming, then this might be the monitor for you. The 3000:1 contrast ratio makes the blacks deeper which is always welcome for movie time.

The G24C4 features the same build quality as the MSI G241. Similarly, it lacks any adjustments besides the tilt. Moreover, it has a 144Hz refresh rate and covers 115% of the sRGB color gamut. The brightness is listed as 250 nits.

To summarize, choose this monitor if you don’t mind minor smearing and screen tearing and prefer a higher contrast ratio over these setbacks.

If you want a monitor with a more adjustable stand, then the AOC C24G1 is a perfect alternative. For about 2K more, you get a similar set of features with the MSI Optix G24C4 with the added benefit of wider adjustability.

MSI Optix G24C4 Specifications:

  • Display: 23.6″ anti-glare panel, Curved (1500R), 250 nits
  • Resolution: FHD (1920 x 1080), 16:9 aspect ratio

5. AOC C24G1

For almost the same price as the MSI Optix G24C4, you can get the AOC C24G1. For the most part, it boasts the same set of specs as the Optix G24C4 but with two major differences. The first is the color coverage. While the Optix G24C4 has 115% sRGB coverage, it is reduced to 96% on the AOC. That said, AOC has the added benefit of wider adjustability.

AOC C24G1 Gaming Monitor

AOC C24G1 Specifications:

4. MSI Optix G241

The MSI  Optix G241 is yet another great alternative for 1080p gaming. It features an all-out black design except for the red joystick on the back. The build quality is average and the stand only offers tilt adjustment.

The lack of adjustability might be an issue for a few but the default height should be optimum for most.

Best 24-inch Gaming Monitors: MSI Optix G241

The IPS panel used on the G241 is rated for 250 nits of brightness and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. It covers 128% of sRGB color gamut and 95% of DCI-P3.

Now for the refresh rate, it features the standard 144Hz with support for adaptive sync. The monitor offers satisfactory performance in terms of gaming as well as color-sensitive work.

MSI Optix G241 Specifications:

  • Display: 23.8″ anti-glare panel, 250 nits

3. Mobiuz EX2510

Next up, we have the Mobiuz EX2510 which is a 144Hz IPS gaming monitor. Like the previous monitor, it features an all-plastic build be it more premium. The brand also provides a back cover to hide wires.

The orange accent on the stand makes it look distinct. Like the G24F, the EX2510 has height adjustments, but, lacks the ability to use it in portrait mode.

Best 24-inch Gaming Monitors: Mobiuz EX2510

One of the features that sets the Mobiuz monitor apart from the G24F is the presence of in-built speakers. For integrated monitor speakers, they sound pretty good compared to the competition.

It has a peak brightness of  400 nits and the contrast ratio is listed at 1000:1. The out-of-the-box color accuracy is better than that of Gigabyte G24F. It also has an sRGB mode that yields professional-level results for content creation.

It also has a light sensor for auto brightness adjustment. But, this is next to useless as it changes other monitor settings alongside the brightness.

Mobiuz EX2510 Specifications:

  • Display: 24.5″ anti-glare panel, 400 nits (peak)
  • Resolution: FHD (1920 x 1080), 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Panel Type: IPS
  • Viewing Angle: 178°

2. Redmi Gaming Monitor G24

Next on this list of best gaming monitors is the newly launched Redmi G24. It is the brand’s first gaming monitor in Nepal and the specs it boasts for under Rs. 25,000 is surprisingly good. To start with, it comes with a 23.8” FHD VA panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It boasts 120% sRGB coverage with an average delta E of less than 2. The screen refreshes at 165Hz with an MPRT response time of 1 millisecond. Moreover, it brings support for AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync for a stutter-free experience. It also has a dedicated HDR mode that dynamically improves the frame’s illumination.

Gaming setup with Redmi Gaming Monitor G24

Redmi has also included DC Dimming and low blue light mode to reduce strains on users’ eyes. For connectivity, you get 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, and a DC-in port. The monitor even has a cable management hub to help you manage your desk properly.

Redmi Gaming Monitor G24 Specification:

1. Gigabyte G24F

If gaming is your main priority, the Gigabyte G24F is an excellent choice. The 170Hz refresh rate is slightly faster than the 144Hz refresh rate found on most gaming monitors.

In terms of design, this monitor is made entirely of plastic, with no colored accents. The stand has a wide range of height and tilt adjustments, but no swivel.

It has a maximum brightness of 300 nits and a contrast ratio of 1000:1, both of which are adequate for FPS gaming. The 90 percent DCI-P3 and 120 percent sRGB coverage of the IPS panel results in vibrant colors.

Best 24-inch Gaming Monitors: Gigabyte G24F

The factory color setting, on the other hand, is slightly disappointing with its green tint. As a result, it is advised that you fine-tune it with a good ICC profile.

The Gigabyte G24F has a GTG response time of 2ms and adaptive sync performance that is flicker-free. The included Smart Overdrive mode provides the best overall performance across the refresh rate range.

The price-to-performance ratio on the Gigabyte G24F is tough to beat. However, if you spend a couple of thousand more, I suggest you wait for the G24F 2 which offers refresh rates of up to 180 Hz and wider DCI-P3 coverage for the same price.

Gigabyte G24F Specifications:

  • Display: 23.8″ anti-glare panel, 300 nits
  • Resolution: FHD (1920 x 1080), 16:9 aspect ratio
