7Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge

Despite the launch of the Galaxy S8, the S7 and the S7 Edge are still a solid buy even after a year. The Galaxy S7’s are still getting regular security upgrades and recently has been upgraded to Nougat. The camera module on the S7’s is similar to the new S8’s, although S8’s have better low light performance and better image processing.

Both the devices feature Octa-core Exynos 8 Octa 8890 (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad) processor that is paired with 4GB RAM and Mali-T880 MP12. They feature the best camera in the business right now. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge feature a 12MP rear-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture and Smart OIS. The front facing camera is of 5MP with f/1.7 aperture.

The battery size, screen size, and curved display differ the Samsung Galaxy S7 from the Galaxy S7 Edge. And I suggest you buy the latter one since it is better than the former.

This setup has made the device capable of capturing impressive shots even on low lights and with 2X optical zoom. The back camera assembly is also aided by OIS (optical image stabilization), phase detection autofocus and Dual-LED (Dual-tone) flash. The camera on the back also shoots UHD videos at 30fps frame rate and Full-HD videos at 60 fps. The device has an 8MP camera as a selfie shooter, which has an aperture of f/1.9.

A non-removable battery 3750mAh capacity is provided to keep the device juiced up. To evade the lingering problem of the smartphone with a wall charger, the device is equipped with SuperCharge fast-charging technology. Huawei P10 Plus, however, lacks the wireless charging.

4One Plus 5

Seemingly close in design with the iPhone 7 Plus, the new flagship (or the flagship killer, most people believe) from OnePlus is another beast in the list. The 16MP dual-camera on the back has been the most striking feature in this newbie. The flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835 has powered the OnePlus 5, which provides surprisingly seamless performance on the use. Equipped with a 5.5-inch display, the phone is somewhat insured from cracks and scratches with the inclusion of Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Backed by 6GB of RAM and Adreno 540 GPU, the gaming and graphics portion is buttery smooth.

Nourished by 3300mAh battery, the One Plus 5 supports Dash charging technology, which avoids the prolonged company of the phone with wall charger. Though the phone lacks some crucial features for a flagship like higher display resolution and resistance to dust and water, the phone is indeed a good buy for the given specs and price.

2Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus:

This year, the Samsung flagship phones have got major design revamp with over 80% screen to body ratio and narrower and taller display size. That is why both the phones are truly the ones to admire. Both the phones don’t differ much in the specs other than the display size and the battery capacity. The bigger S8 Plus has a 6.2-inch display and 3500mAh battery whereas the smaller S8 has a 5.8inch display and 3000mAh battery. The rest of the specs of the phone are pretty similar with Exynos 8895 Octa Core CPU, 4GB RAM, and 64GB expandable storage. These IP68 dust and water resistant phones support fast charging and wireless fast charging as well.

There is the new Samsung AI called Bixby which doesn’t seem to do anything new than what the Google Assistant already does. The fingerprint sensor has now moved to the back of the device and rests alongside the primary camera unit. Optics wise, both the phones have a 12MP unit on the back and the 8MP unit on the front. Also, Samsung has provided breakage insurance on both the phones.

1Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is here in Nepal just after a month of international launch. If you want the best big phone ever made, then the Galaxy Note 8 is here for you. Note lineup is essentially recognized for their utilitarian use cases with Samsung’s signature S Pen. And what separates the Note 8 from other Samsung flagship this year is the use of Dual Camera as well.

The Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED HDR display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Powering this phablet is the Exynos 8895 Octa-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz, and comes coupled with 6GB of RAM for extreme multitasking that you’re supposed to perform on its big display. The variant launched in Nepal comes with 64GB of storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB. The Note 8 comes with Dual 12MP Camera setup where both of the lenses are equipped with OIS. The secondary camera here carries a telephoto lens which enables the device to capture images using 2X optical zoom without losing the image quality.  Its camera is capable of shooting portrait images and even offers the alternative to choose the blur amount after the image has been taken. Backing up the phone is a 3300mAh battery which provides similar battery backup as the S8+. So the differentiating factor between the Note 8 and S8 Plus is the Dual camera setup, S Pen and the price difference of Rs.21,000 that gets you these extra features.
