Google’s latest AI model Gemini 2.0 is here

Google introduced Gemini 1.0 last year, followed by Gemini 1.5 this February, and both of them succeeded in creating good hype in the market. Now, the company is back with its advanced artificial intelligence model, Gemini 2.0. The company claims this model to be “a new agentic era” in AI development. Let’s explore what this new model has to offer.

What’s new?

Gemini 2.0 introduces several powerful features, like an improved ability to understand context, think several steps ahead, and even take supervised actions on behalf of users. The technology is backed by advanced hardware, such as Google’s sixth-generation TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) called Trillium.

Along with this the new model also features multimodal input and text output, accessible to all developers, and text-to-speech and native image generation, initially available to early-access partners.

But an experimental model before

Gemini 2.0 Flash is available now as an experimental model to users. It is said to deliver faster response times and outperforms Gemini 1.5 Pro on benchmarks, running at twice the speed. In addition to supporting multimodal inputs like images, video, and audio, this new model now offers multimodal outputs, such as text combined with natively generated images and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) multilingual audio.

Furthermore, it can natively call tools like Google Search, execute code, and integrate third-party user-defined functions.

Google is trying hands on something else too

In addition to Gemini 2.0, Google has teased an exciting update to Project Astra, a smartphone digital assistant designed to respond to both images and verbal commands, more like Apple’s Siri. Wait, there’s more! Google also launched a feature called “Deep Research,” which uses advanced reasoning and long-context capabilities to function as a research assistant. This feature allows Gemini 2.0 to explore complex topics and generate detailed reports on behalf of users.

Anduril Industries, a defense tech company, and OpenAI have announced a strategic partnership to develop AI models. These models will enhance the U.S. and allied forces’ ability to detect, assess, and respond to aerial threats in real time.

According to their announcement, the companies will primarily focus on countering unmanned drones using counter-unmanned aircraft systems (CUAS). CUAS is a military term for solutions that track, detect, and ultimately disrupt and destroy unmanned airborne vehicles.

Moreover,  this partnership will utilize AI to process time-sensitive data, eventually reducing the work burden on human operators. The companies also hope to address the growing global competition in AI—particularly with China—and maintain the U.S.’s technological edge in national security.

Anduril already manufactures systems like AI-powered assassin drones and rocket motors for missiles, but these products still require human operators to make life-or-death decisions. With this partnership, they plan to use OpenAI’s models to analyze vast amounts of incoming data, supporting faster, more accurate decision-making in high-pressure situations. Now they are handing life-death decisions to AI? What could possibly go wrong?

The idea of AI making or aiding in lethal decisions is a concept that demands careful consideration. You’ve probably heard this one: “Charging your phone overnight will ruin the battery.” So when your battery suddenly dies late at night, instead of leaving the phone on charge you just prefer keeping the phone dead till morning, right? Because you think charging your phone overnight will ruin the battery. What if I tell you, this is completely wrong information? Yes, it’s absolutely fine to leave your phone plugged in overnight.

Modern smartphones are equipped with smart charging technology that prevents overcharging. Once the battery reaches 100%, the phone automatically stops drawing power from the charger.

The teasers are already out and they show a flat frame design for the Realme 14x 5G. The camera module is placed in a rectangular box with three circular lenses protruding from the inside.
