Honor X6B Review

Design and Build

  • Design: Monotone design with reflective back panels and flat frames
  • Dimensions: 163.59 mm x 75.33 mm x 8.39 mm
  • Weight: 192 grams

Starting off with the design, when I unboxed the pack, the first thing that came to my mind was “Nice Color”! Yes, the phone looks aesthetically pleasing with a comfortable weight (192 gm). It is basically the X6a with a sleek, modern design; a square camera module in the upper left corner; and a biometrics feature on its side.

Honor X6b design

Additionally, it comes in 4 colors Forest Green, Starry Purple, Ocean Cyan, and Midnight Black and my unit here is the Purple one. Who knew Starry Purple would make such a good first impression?

Display

  • 6.56” TFT LCD Panel, 90Hz refresh rate, 780 nits’ peak brightness
  • HD+ (720 x 1,612)

With a 6.56-inch display, the phone is both handy and comfortable with decent viewing angles. The bezels are slim for most areas, though a bit thicker on the chin. Moreover, it has a V-shaped notch. Additionally, X6b has a DC dimming feature that helps reduce eye strain when using the phone in low light.

The company has claimed the display to have a Five-star overall drop resistance certification from Switzerland’s SGS.

Honor X6b display I also found a pretty interesting feature on this phone “Magic Capsule” same as the Dynamic Island you see on newer iPhones. While it is known as an iPhone feature, Honor actually claims they came up with this idea first, all the way back in 2018 with the Honor V20.

Performance

  • OS & UI: Android 14 with MagicOS 8.0 on top
  • Chipset: Octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 (12nm)

Moving on to the performance, the MediaTek Helio G85 offered by this phone has a better performance compared to its sibling – Honor X6a with improved core architecture and overall benchmark scores that are roughly twice as high.

For my basic, everyday tasks, the Honor X6b performed well and provided a smooth experience. However, with over-extended use like running multiple apps in the background and downloading or installing large files I felt occasional lag. But then given that this is a budget-friendly device, I wouldn’t consider this as a major drawback.

Honor X6b Performance

While reviewing this phone, I selected two games to test. For the easier part, I played Temple Run which ran quite well. Next, I tried PUBG after it took a good amount of time to load. You can play comparatively demanding games like this on smooth settings in ultra-FPS (40 FPS). So, the Honor X6b phone is good for casual usage but if you are looking for a phone for gaming, I would recommend you spend 2000 more and get One Plus Nord N30 SE 5G which has a better chipset and performance.

Memory-wise, well 6GB of RAM with 1286GB isn’t worth complaining about a budget phone. Most apps remain in memory without problems (except for some large games), and transitioning between different programs is usually smooth and responsive.

OS and UI

Honor X6b runs on Andriod 14 so you will for sure have the latest software. However, the company hasn’t mentioned anything about its security update, which is something brands like Xiaomi and Oppo wouldn’t miss out on.

Furthermore, it comes with pre-installed apps that might not be necessary for you but you can easily uninstall them. In addition, Honor’s Magic OS is simple and user-friendly and offers a variety of customization options, which allowed me to personalize the interface and settings as per my preferences.

Honor X6b OS

Camera

The camera is the part where I enjoy sharing my thoughts the most, possibly because I’ve spent the most time using it.

  • Rear Camera: Dual Camera (50MP Primary + 2MP Depth sensor)
  • Front Camera: 5MP Camera (Centre-aligned waterdrop cutout)

The camera module has a square design with two functional cameras, a flash, and the third element? it’s just a decorative touch. Well played Honor! Initially, I didn’t hold out much hope for this phone but this one time I am honestly happy to be proven wrong.

Honor X6b camera

Daytime

In my findings, the main camera takes reasonably good photos. The images I took do not seem too boosted but still have a decent saturation.

I noticed some stutters which made some of my photos (especially moving) blurry. The focusing capability is also not the most reliable, so you will feel a slight delay before the image appears after capturing. But for a budget-friendly phone, I felt the camera to be to quite reasonable.

Portraits

When it comes to portrait mode, the quality can be a bit disappointing if overexposed to the light. But with a better background and lightning, the photo turned out impressive. The edge detection is also fair enough.

Night Shots

In the night shots, I saw a bit of noise in some of the images. This phone has a “Night” mode that improves image quality, but it takes about 3.9 seconds to capture the photo and an additional few seconds to process and load it. In total, you’re looking at around 5 to 6 seconds for capturing and viewing a photo, which can be quite time-consuming. The rear camera can hardly focus on the details but that’s something we have seen on budget phones for a while now.

Selfie

I was quite impressed with the selfie camera of this phone. The skin tone was quite reddish with a bit of smoothing in the photos, but honestly, I’m kind of into the touch-up because let’s be real, who wouldn’t prefer a bit of ‘glam’ over their original face?

Videos

When it comes to shooting videos, the phone lets you record at 1080p@30fps with both the front and back cameras. It’s a bit of a mixed bag – no stabilization so some of the footage ended up looking pretty shaky. But hey, it’s a budget phone, so I guess that’s the trade-off for not having a steady hand! I gave video calling a shot too, and it turned out to be pretty alright.

Battery Life

  • Battery: 5,200 mAh Silicon-carbon cell with 35W super-fast charging
  • Charging: 35W of charging speed

While most Honor phones have a Lithium Polymer battery, the X6b features a Silicon one. This battery offers higher energy density and faster charging times than traditional batteries. With a 5,200 mAh battery, it gave me two full days of backup on normal usage. I was clicking photos, playing games, taking my Duolingo class, and whatnot, and it was still going well. So, I would consider the battery a plus point for this phone.

Also, with 35W super-fast charging this phone goes from 0% to 50% in 58 minutes which is a fair deal.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the Honor X6b supports 4G and VoLTE, ensuring reliable network performance for calls and data. And since it also supports Band 20 (800 MHz) for NTC, users in rural areas can also enjoy strong 4G coverage. In urban areas, the phone benefits from carrier aggregation, enhancing connectivity and speed for both NTC and Ncell networks. Overall, the Honor X6b provides solid connectivity options that meet the needs of most users. Additionally, the phone includes a 3.5mm headphone jack and has a quality single speaker, which provides good audio performance.

Honor X6b Review: Conclusion

Folks, the Honor X6b is pleasantly decent for me. It’s a budget phone that manages to stand out with a sleek design, and impressive battery life. The chipset handles everyday tasks and light gaming very well.

The camera setup is also good to go for this price. Additionally, the 35W fast charging is a nice bonus. Overall, the Honor X6b is a solid choice for those on a budget, offering good value for the money.

However, for this users need to be using a device running on Funtouch OS 9.2 (Android 9) or later, have 6GB or more memory, and also have the TWS app updated to 9.2.5.9 or later.

iQOO TWS 1e Latency

Talking of battery life, the iQOO TWS 1e can last up to 42 hours. The company pulled this number by setting the earbuds to AAC codec, 50% volume, and ANC turned off. In the meantime, no number on the independent playback or usage time with ANC turned on has been provided. Insta360 X4 with 8K 360º video recording is already available in Nepal

0

Insta360, popular for its action cameras and 360-degree cameras, has launched the Insta360 X4, its first 8K camera. And just a couple of days later, it has arrived in Nepal as well. So without any delay, let’s dive into discussing the specs, features, availability, and official price in Nepal of the Insta360 X4.

Insta360 X4 Overview

Design

The Insta360 X4 arrives with minimal visual alterations, notably featuring a microphone hole beneath the camera. However, the device is slightly taller yet thinner compared to its predecessor, weighing approximately 203 grams – 23 grams heavier than the X3. The dimensions are 123 x 46 x 26.3 mm, maintaining the same width as the previous model.

The display has gotten bigger and now measures 2.5 inches with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass protection. But the commendable change in the build has to be its removable lens guard, which can act as a shield while shooting in tougher weather and environments. The standard lens guard is bundled in the box while Insta360 sells the premium lens guard with an extra layer of protection, separately.

8K recording

The key USP of this 360 camera is none other than the ability to capture 8K res videos at 30fps. You get a 1/2″ 35mm sensor here with an f/1.9 aperture. This major bump in resolution contributes to high-quality footage, of course, to watch on a bigger display. Plus, users can also crop out from the 360-degree angle, with enough details retained.

Insta360 X4 Camera

If you need some fast-paced action, the X4 also lets you shoot at 5.7K at 60fps and 4K at 100fps too. On the contrary, the last-gen X3 could only do 5.7K videos at 30fps and 4K at 60fps. Moreover, the new X4 can shoot 72MP stills and 180-degree video in 4K and 2.7k resolutions with the Me Mode, which can hide your selfie stick. Or it can also double as a typical action cam with its single-lens mode at up to 4K 60fps.

Some AI

With the AI bandwagon going strong, Insta360 has also bestowed some AI features for this guy. You get a 5nm AI chip that hosts AI-powered shooting, editing features, and AI gesture control as well. Users can do no-effort AI edits and also some customized manual editing with ease. Likewise, the company also claims faster reframing and improved subject detection.

Battery and Others

Fueling this 360-degree camera is a 2,290mAh battery which is rated for 75 minutes of 8K videos and 135 minutes of 5.7K footage recording. Topping it off takes just 55 minutes from an 18W charger.

Insta360 X4 Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 123 x 46 x 26.3 mm
  • Weight: 203g
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth5.2, Wi-Fi 5
  • Waterproof: Up to 10 ft

Insta360 X4 Price in Nepal and Availability

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 brings on-device AI capabilities for midrange phones

Qualcomm made waves by launching the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 a few months back. And why would it not? That processor came with a flagship-esque architecture and on-device generative AI. Now, the American foundry is adding another such chipset to its catalogue, but with lesser firepower. Here, we will discuss the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in further detail and what it brings to the board.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Overview

Similar to how the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 slots right under the 2024 flagship offering, the 7s Gen 3 sits under the regular 7 Gen 3 in terms of raw power. However, the fresh silicon has a few tricks up its sleeve.

    On-device AI

One of the main highlights of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is that it comes with on-device AI. Previously, this feature was limited to flagship processors only. However, 7+ Gen 3 introduced it to the premium midrange and this processor is expanding it further to more affordable space.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 highlights

Anyhoo, Qualcomm says that this chipset allows for multi-language translation and transcription. It could see something like the “Live Translate” feature we saw with Galaxy AI. Furthermore, this dedicated NPU apparently requires less power to operate, which would help preserve the daily endurance of the phones.

    Architecture

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 comes in 4nm fabrication and has eight cores. The most interesting thing about its architecture is that it packs a prime core just like its higher sibling. Qualcomm does not specify clearly if the prime core is Cortex-X4 or Cortex-720.

Either way, it will be much more efficient than its new cores despite peaking at 2.5GHz, which is less than the base 7 Gen 3. Other than that, there are three performance cores and four efficiency cores clocking at 2.4GHz, and 1.8GHz respectively.

    Hardware and other supports

Firstly, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is equipped with the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system and supports 5GmmWave and sub-6GHz cellular networks. With this, it can hit downlink speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps. Likewise, it offers tri-band WiFi 6E and Bluetooth v5.4 for further wireless connectivity. In terms of cameras, this chip can work with up to 200MP single shooter. If we are looking at camera support with zero shutter lag, it can go with either a single 64MP@30FPS or up to three 21MP units @30FPS.

    Snapdragon 7s Gen 3

Similarly, you can put displays with up to FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate on phones running on Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. It can also support a 4K@60Hz external display. In terms of memory and storage, it supports LPDRR5@3,200MHz as well as LPDRR4X@2,133MHz RAM with a maximum capacity of 16GB. Meanwhile, for storage, it comes with UFS 3.1 which can go up to 1TB. It also supports a USB 3.1 Type-C port with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ charging protocol. Lastly, it can work with six satellites and triple-frequency for navigation.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 Availability

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 was made public on 20 August 2024, and we won’t have to wait much longer for it to hit the market. With the intent to “bring remarkable AI experiences to more affordable smartphones”, we can expect this chip to go on midrange phones.

A Xiaomi device is apparently ready to be announced with the processor in September — supposedly the Redmi Note 14 Pro. The details of the phone are yet unknown, but we can expect some leaks and rumours to surface shortly. After that, Samsung, Realme, and Sharp are in line to power their phones with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3.

Oppo F27 5G launched, now where have we seen that before?

Oppo launched the F27 5G in India which is awfully similar to the Reno12 F 5G that launched a few months earlier. Maybe that is why Oppo decided to not make much noise about it. Regardless, in this article, we will be looking into the Oppo F27 5G in further detail while also discussing what its price in Nepal might be.

    Oppo F27 5G Overview

    Design and Display

As I mentioned earlier, the Oppo F27 5G is a repackaging of the Reno12 F 5G. As such, the phone does not look any different. It comes in the same flat edges with a large circular camera dial with LED baked in it, which the company dubs “Halo Light”. Likewise, the colour options are not any different either with the monotone Emerald Green, and Amber Orange with fiery patterns on the back.

    Oppo F27 5G Halo Light

On the front, we get the same 6.67-inch Flat OLED panel with AGC DT-Star2 glass protection. The Oppo F27 5G display is an FHD+ unit that can toggle between 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, it offers a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz and full coverage of DCI-P3 and sRGB colour gamut. It can get plenty bright with a peak brightness of 2,100 nits.

    Performance

Though Oppo does not mention exactly which chip the F27 5G is running on, it likely has the same processor as the Oppo Reno12 F 5G i.e. MediaTek Dimensity 6300. The silicon’s architecture suggests the same as well. This phone comes with 8GB, which is lower than its Reno counterpart. But again, the memory option matches to the 4G model of the Reno 12 F. The storage options are lower as well, with 128GB and 256GB being the available choices. Additionally, the Oppo F27 5G retains all the AI and other features like BeaconLink, AI Studio, AI LinkBoost, etc.

    Camera and the rest

Another key difference the Oppo F27 5G has is its cameras. It comes with two rear shooters while the Reno phones enjoy an extra unit on the back. This phone has a 50MP primary camera and is coupled with a 2MP depth sensor. It means that one of the cutouts is just a dummy piece. Meanwhile, on the front, it has a 32MP selfie shooter.

    Oppo F27 5G Camera

As for the power supply, it packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W charging support. This phone has a stereo speaker setup and supports spatial audio.

iQOO Z9s 5G is now official with MediaTek Dimensity 7300

iQOO has launched a handful of phones under the Z9 series including the base model, Z9x, a Turbo edition, and Z9 Lite. Now the company is creating a spin-off series with Z9s 5G and Z9s Pro. In this article, we will look into the former i.e. iQOO Z9s 5G in further detail and discuss its potential price in Nepal.

    iQOO Z9s 5G Overview

    Design and Display

The iQOO Z9s 5G has two colour options: Onyx Green, and Titanium Matte. The former comes in a glossy finish with marble-like patterns. Meanwhile, the latter as the name suggests comes in a matte finish. Either way, it boasts an IP64 rating making it dust and water-resistant. Furthermore, you can use the phone in rainy conditions and with wet hands as well, thanks to its “Wet Touch Technology”.

It has a 6.77-inch curved AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution on the front. The display has a smooth refresh rate of 120Hz and rich vibrancy with a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. It also offers a regular and instant touch sampling rate of 300Hz and 2,000Hz respectively. Other than that, the iQOO Z9s 5G is capable of 1,800 nits of peak brightness and 2,160Hz PWM dimming. Moreover, it dons the Schott Xensation Glass for added layering of protection.

    Performance

The iQOO Z9s 5G packs the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor for most of its heavy lifting. This silicon has eight cores, 4nm fabrication, and clocks at a 2.5GHz peak. The phone is then coupled with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. It is available in three different configurations. Which are: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB.

    MediaTek Dimensity 7300

You can virtually double the memory on this thing, however, it does not support storage expansion. The phone also packs a stainless steel 3,000 mm2 vapour chamber liquid cooling system for temperature control. Software-wise, it boots on FunTouch OS 14 based on Android 14. It will receive two years of software and three years of security updates.

    Camera and the rest

Likewise, the front camera is a 16MP unit with a Samsung S5K3P9SP04-FGX9 sensor.

    iQOO Z9s 5G Camera

In the tank, the iQOO Z9s 5G packs a 5,500mAh battery and is apparently the slimmest phone in the company’s portfolio to pack that much capacity. It supports 44W wired charging and can push out a maximum of 7.5W reverse charging.

    iQOO Z9s 5G Specifications

    • Design: Curved design with patterned glossy or monotone matte finish, IP64-rated
