2

Alongside its new flagship foldable, Vivo also launched its new tablet in China, the Pad 2. It’s the flagship offering from the brand that succeeds the original Pad launched in April 2022. So let’s get into the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Vivo Pad 2 in Nepal.

Vivo Pad 2 Overview:

Design and Display

Pad 2 borrow has a similar design language as the first-gen Pad. It comes with an aluminum unibody chassis with squared-off edges and is available in Blue, Pink, and Grey color options. That said, the company has made the tablet thinner at 6.5mm versus 8.5mm on its predecessor.

Elon Musk announces “TruthGPT” to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT

1

In a recent interview with Fox News, Elon Musk talked about launching “TruthGPT”, a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that will rival “biased” AI models like ChatGPT. It’ll be a chatbot that “tries to understand the nature of the universe” among other things.

Elon Musk announces TruthGPT to rival ChatGPT

Elon Musk said he wants to create an alternative to Microsoft and Google’s AI platforms. And in case you didn’t know, Musk actually co-founded OpenAI in 2015 alongside the current CEO Sam Altman. He argued that OpenAI had strayed away from its core “open” ideals and turned into a closed, for-profit corporation. He also expressed his distaste for OpenAI’s relationship with Microsoft saying, “In effect, Microsoft has a very strong say if not directly controls OpenAI at this point.”

TruthGPT vs ChatGPT

Elon Musk’s TruthGPT will be an AI tool that “will do more good than harm”, claims Musk. “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production”, Musk said in the interview. He believes AI could be a civilization-level threat if it becomes able to lie, deceive, and sway public opinions.

Current Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT only display answers if these answers don’t trigger any (OpenAI’s) filters. OpenAI mentions that this filter exists for “safety reasons” but Elon seems to hold a belief that OpenAI’s filters are too “politically correct” and the bot gives “woke” responses. According to Elon, TruthGPT will be a maximum truth-seeking AI that serves as a more transparent alternative.

A safeguard

Musk believes his AI could be humanity’s safeguard against an AI uprising. He said, “I think this might be the best path to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”

He then gave an analogy of chimpanzees. ”We recognize humanity could decide to hunt down all the chimpanzees and kill them,” Elon said. “We’re actually glad that they exist, and we aspire to protect their habitats.” I don’t feel safer about the future after Elon’s comparison but his efforts for free speech and transparency are definitely commendable.

Elon Musk and TruthGPT: Conclusion

Elon’s announcement about TruthGPT lines up with the recent news about his new AI company “X.AI“. Interestingly, he had proposed a 6-month halt on LLMs and such chatbots not long before all this. Elon has always been vocal about the dangers of AI and the implications of creating highly powerful models without proper regulations in place. His company Neuralink also serves to “fuse” humans with technology so we don’t get left behind in the future.

Now, he is stepping into the LLM space. Though he is relatively late to this space, Elon Musk’s TruthGPT might rival ChatGPT and Google’s Bard in the coming years. And we look forward to Musk’s “maximum truth-seeking AI”. Whatever that means.

Honor 90 Pro tipped to launch with a 200MP primary camera

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 with Intel chipsets now available in Nepal!

ThinkBooks have been popular choices for work devices or personal machines in Nepal but only the Ryzen variants have been widely available. Now, you can get your hands on the 14-inch ThinkBook equipped with Intel Core processors. In this article, let’s take a look at the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 (2022), its specifications, features, price in Nepal, and availability details.

Lenovo Thinkbook 14 Gen 4 (2022) Overview:

Design and Display

Thinkbook 14 brings the tried and tested Lenovo Think-look with an aluminum metal body that weighs just 1.4 kg. The top features an anodized finish while the whole of the machine measures less than 18mm thick.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 2022 Design

The display on the Thinkbook 14 is an FHD IPS panel with a matte finish and a 16:9 aspect ratio. A TN panel variant is also available in some markets but we’d recommend skipping that one for obvious reasons. Besides that, the panel can hit 300 nits of brightness and can cover up to 100% sRGB colors (either 45% NTSC or 100% sRGB variants). It also features TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification for a better viewing experience.

Performance and Memory

Powering the Thinkbook are Alder Lake Intel Core processors (12th Gen). Unfortunately, Gen 5 models of the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 ( (with 13th Gen processors) haven’t quite arrived here. That being said, you can pick between Intel U and P series chips. That includes basics like the Intel Core i3-1215U with just 6 cores and relatively powerful ones like the i7-1260P with its 12+16 (Core/Thread) combo. Exact availability is discussed in the final section.

As for the GPU, you can either get the integrated Iris XE or the NVIDIA GeForce MX 550 with 2GB of VRAM. Memory-wise, there’s an 8GB (soldered) default configuration which you can extend up to a total of 40GB (DDR4 3200MHz RAM) via the extra SO-DIMM slot (up to 32GB). There’s also an additional M.2 slot for storage expansion (up to 2TB total).

Security and Connectivity

Being a business device, you get plenty of security features like a TPM 2.0 chip and a fingerprint reader integrated power button. There’s also a Kengiston slot and a physical camera shutter for privacy.

For connectivity, you get gigabit Ethernet, WiFi 5 (WiFi 6 and 6E on some models), and Bluetooth 5.1. As for the ports, you get plenty of I/O with 2 Type-As, a Thunderbolt 4 port alongside another Type-C port, an SD card reader, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm jack.

Finally, fueling the ultrabook is either a 45Wh or a 65Wh lithium battery. Since the laptop runs on efficient chips, battery life should be pretty decent even with the modest cell capacity. This is backed up by the fact that the machine scored 6 hours (45Wh) to 8 hours (60Wh) on the MobileMark 2018 benchmark. You can charge it via the 65W USB-C adapter in the box.

Lenovo Thinkbook 14 Gen 4 Specifications:

  • Body: 323 x 218 x 17.9 mm, 1.4 kg

Huawei’s new autonomous driving system should have Tesla worried

Chinese tech giant Huawei unveiled its latest breakthroughs in the autonomous driving space at the “Huawei Smart Car Solution Conference 2023” held on April 16. Dubbed “Huawei ADS 2.0”, the company says it also brings the industry’s first laser fusion GOD technology. And looking at all its features, Huawei’s second-gen autonomous driving system might pose a big threat to Elon Musk’s Tesla. Let’s learn more.

Huawei ADS 2.0 and GOD Overview:

Autonomous Driving System 2 (or ADS 2.0 for short) is an impressive self-driving technology that functions without the need for high-precision accurate maps. Whereas GOD stands for Generalised Object Detection, which uses multiple sensors to detect and identify objects and obstacles.

Utilizing a road network topology inference technology, Huawei’s ADS 2.0 can more accurately and reliably map out its surrounding. Through this, it can identify traffic lights, intersections, and other road elements. Traditionally, autonomous driving technology makes use of high-precision maps that are both costly and time-consuming to produce. Moreover, they require frequent revisions due to infrastructure changes. Hence this new technology is more practical and can be implemented on a large scale. Mr. Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Smart Car Business Group, shared a similar sentiment about it.

Huawei ADS 2.0 and GOD Features

Navigation

Huawei announces ADS 2.0 and GOD technology
Huawei AITO M5

As mentioned before, ADS 2.0 navigates using road network topology inference rather than relying on precision maps. This makes navigation safer as well as eliminates room for mapping errors due to changes in road infrastructure.

Safety

Huawei’s new GOD (Generalized Obstacle Detection) technology uses multiple sensors like lidar, millimeter-wave radar, and cameras to detect obstacles like falling rocks or overturned vehicles and decelerate or stop completely. This allows it to safely navigate unknown and irregular obstacles that might not be a common occurrence. GOD technology is more accurate than the current obstacle detection algorithms so smart cars with ADS 2.0 and GOD will be much safer than they are today.

Speed

ADS 2.0 has been optimized for high-speed drives too. The manual takeover mileage, which is the distance a car can travel on autopilot before a driver takes over, has also increased from 100 km in ADS 1.0 to 200 km in ADS 2.0.

Parking

When it comes to parking, ADS 2.0 has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. It can do an automatic search for available parking spaces or a 360° scan of your surrounding for parking discovery. There is a special valet parking system that supports 160 different kinds of “intelligent” parking. Such as ramp parking spaces, underground parking, and other unconventional spaces.

Variants

Huawei currently offers ADS 2.0 in 3 packages: basic, advanced, and high-end/premium.

The AITO M5 2024 Advanced Intelligent Driving Model will be the first car to roll with these technologies. Avita 11 and Arcfox Alpha S·HI will be the next in line to have ADS 2.0 and GOD technology.

AITO M5 2024 (Advanced Intelligent Driving Model)

Commercial vehicle makers that have partnered up with Huawei either have the basic or the advanced package equipment. While the premium package equipment can be added as an optional purchase. The basic package offers Active Safety Assist, Active Cruise Control, and a 360-panoramic view. Similarly, the advanced option adds add high-speed cruise assist and smart parking capabilities, whereas the premium package has valet parking and Urban Navigation assistance.

Huawei Nova 11 series goes official with 120Hz OLED display, satellite connectivity

    1

Huawei has launched its newest midrange phones under the Nova 11 series in China. It consists of three models: the regular Nova 11, the Nova 11 Pro, and the high-end Nova 11 Ultra, all of which come with a striking green color scheme. Let’s get into the detailed specifics of the Huawei Nova 11 series (Nova 11, 11 Pro, 11 Ultra), along with its expected price in Nepal.

    Huawei Nova 11 Series Overview:

    Huawei Nova 11

First off, let’s talk about the vanilla Nova 11. It’s the least expensive model in the lineup but still has a 6.7-inch 10-bit AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is also lightweight and slim, measuring 6.8mm thick and weighing only 168 grams. And you also get a premium glass sandwich build.

But unfortunately, there’s no extra hardened-glass protection here. Although Huawei has used its in-house Kunlun glass protection on display, it’s surprisingly an optional add-on that costs an extra CNY 200 (roughly NPR 4,400).Huawei Nova 11 Design and Display

Camera-wise, there’s an array of three sensors on the back consisting of a 50MP sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens. On the front, there’s a single 60MP selfie camera. The phone is touted to shoot 4K@30fps videos from both the front and rear cameras.

Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor based on 6nm fabrication technology. Even though the 778G supports a 5G modem, the Nova 11 is limited to LTE cellular connectivity only.

Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, although the RAM capacity hasn’t been confirmed by the brand yet. The phone comes with the latest HarmonyOS 3 operating system from Huawei. Last but not least, there’s a 4500mAh battery powering everything everywhere all at once and it charges via a 66W adapter.

    Nova 11 Specifications:

    • Display: 6.7-inches OLED panel, 120Hz refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10
    • Resolution: FHD+ (2412 × 1084 pixels)
    • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G (6 nm)

    • Huawei Nova 11 Pro and Ultra

Continuing with the Nova 11 Pro and 11 Ultra, they both feature a curved glass front and leather back. They also have a similar dimension measuring 7.8mm in thickness and 188 grams in weight.

Likewise, both smartphones are built around a large 6.78″ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 300Hz. The Ultra variant comes with Kunlun Glass protection. But if you want the same protection for the Pro variant, you’ll need to pay extra, just like with the vanilla Nova 11.

Moving on, the rear camera configuration includes a 50MP primary lens which can toggle between f/1.4 and f/4.0 aperture. Also, this is an RYYB sensor and has laser Auto Focus (AF) built-in.  Accompanying it is an 8MP ultrawide camera and a “ten-channel color temperature sensor”, which helps adjust colors the main and the wide lens.

Even for selfies, you get two cameras on the front consisting of a 60MP primary and an 8MP portrait lens with 2x optical zoom. On the other hand, the performance, memory configuration, and OS of the smartphone are the same as the Nova 11. The same 4500mAh battery also fuels these smartphones, but you now get faster 100W charging support.

Although there are many similarities between the Nova 11 Pro and Ultra, the main difference is that the Ultra supports two-way satellite messaging via the Beidou constellation. This feature, of course, adds to the overall cost of the device.
