Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2023) receives a price drop in Nepal

Lenovo updated its Legion gaming laptops with the latest mobile chips from Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA at the CES 2023. It is now available in Nepal. So, let’s discuss the specs, features, price, and availability of the Legion 5 Pro series 2023 (Pro 5 and Pro 5i) in Nepal.

Legion Pro 5i Series 2023 (Overview):

Lenovo seems to have revamped the Legion gaming laptops series—since we only have two options this year. Unlike what’s generally assumed, the Legion Pro 5 replaces last year’s Legion 5 and not the Legion 5 Pro.

Performance and Memory

As always, there are two models under the Legion Pro 5 series: Pro 5 and Pro 5i. The “i” suffix on the latter represents the Intel processor inside. Here, Lenovo has gone with the latest 13th Gen Intel HX-series mobile processors. The base configuration has the intel I7-13900H, while users can also opt for higher-end models with Core i7-12700H and Core i9-13900HX.

There are three CPU options on the AMD Ryzen-powered Legion Pro 5. Here, users can choose from Ryzen 5, 7645HX, Ryzen 7 7745HX, and Ryzen 9 77845HX.

Legion Pro 5 2023 Design

CPU aside, other specifications of the 8th Gen Lenovo Pro 5 and Pro 5i are pretty similar, starting with the GPU options. The base model of the Legion Pro 5 series (2023) comes with the RTX 3050 processors. However, you can opt for RTX 40-series GPU as well: RTX 4070, 4060, and 4070, all with a 140W TGP. Legion Pro 5 series (2023) also boasts a MUX switch to bypass the integrated for that extra bit of performance.

Lenovo LA AI Chip and Cooling

This year’s Lenovo Legion series laptops are the first gaming laptops with a dedicated AI chip. While AI-based solutions have been there on gaming laptops for performance improvement, Lenovo claims the new LA chips on its Legion laptops are the first AI hardware on laptops. The LA A1 on Legion Pro 5 reads the load on the CPU and the GPU to adjust the heat management accordingly.

Moreover, Lenovo has upgraded the cooling system to keep up with the heat. The new Legion Coldfront 5.0 cooling tech brings an improved fan system, custom fan curve controls, larger intakes, and exhausts.

Design and Display

Lenovo Legion Pro 5 and Pro 5i will be available in Onyx Grey and Abyss Blue finishes. These laptops feature a polymer chassis with a metal lid. Most Legion laptops now come with a 16:10 IPS screen, and it is the case with the new Legion Pro 5 series. Here, you get a 16-inch WQXGA screen with up to 240Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness, and 100% Adobe RGB covers. Screen options listed so far boast NVIDIA G-SYNC, X-Rite Pantone Certification, and Dolby Vision.

Interestingly, there is no FHD option this year, but we expect Lenovo to bring it down the line for South Asia and other regions.

Rest of the Specs

The Legion Pro 5 and Pro 5i (2023) are fueled by an 80Whr battery with support for Super Rapid Charge. Thus, they can go from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes and reach 100% in an hour. Based on the configuration and the region, these laptops will ship with 300W, 230W, or 140W adapters.

The connectivity is also pretty good as you get two USB-Cs, three USB-As, one HDMI, one ethernet, and a combined audio jack. Likewise, there is Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless networks.

Best Action Cameras in Nepal [Updated]

Action cameras are small, rugged, waterproof digital cameras designed for capturing immersive action shots. These tiny cameras can capture breathtaking footage while surfing, rock climbing, or in any challenging situation with minimal effort. So we’ve compiled a list of the best action cameras available in Nepal right now in 2024.

Best Action Cameras in Nepal:

Insta360 Go 3

On our list of the best action cameras in Nepal, the Insta Go 3 is one of the most affordable options. Insta360’s Go lineup consists of extremely small action cameras with incredible recording capabilities for their size.

The Insta360 GO 3 maintains the pill-shaped design of its predecessor, weighing 35 grams, an 8-gram increase. And yeah, the best thing we loved about this was its super-portability, the way it fits quite literally everywhere, makes it super convenient to use. In addition,  It remains IPX8 water-resistant, surviving up to 5 meters deep, and includes a default lens guard. Equipped with dual mics, voice control, and a magnetic pendant for convenient attachment, it facilitates POV shots on a T-shirt.

The 2.2-inch touchscreen display is versatile, flipping for vlogging and enabling settings adjustment. The Action Pod features a magnetic quick-release system for tripod mounting and functions as a Bluetooth remote. The camera boasts an 11.24mm sensor, f/2.2 aperture, and captures 2.7K footage at 30 fps, an improvement from the GO 2.

New recording modes include Pre-Recording, Loop Recording, Timed Capture, and free frame mode for varied aspect ratios. Stabilization is ensured by a 6-axis gyroscope and FlowState stabilization, complemented by 360 Horizon Lock. The 310mAh camera battery charges in 35 minutes, while the Action Pod’s 1,270mAh battery takes 65 minutes, extending the GO 3’s usage to 170 minutes.

The DJI Pocket 3, featuring an integrated camera, gimbal, display, and controls, embraces a pocket-friendly design. Notably, it introduces a rotating 2-inch touchscreen for flexible horizontal or vertical orientation.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Design and Display

Key to its appeal is the 1-inch CMOS sensor, a significant upgrade from its predecessor, enhancing low-light performance and enabling 4K video recording at 120 fps with stereo audio. The 3-axis gimbal stabilization is complemented by 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG color modes for post-production flexibility. ActiveTrack 6.0, 4X digital zoom, and panorama mode are also notable features.

Beyond vlogging, the Pocket 3 supports live streaming via smartphone connection and functions as a webcam for video calls or online meetings.

The Insta360 X4 is the company’s latest 360-degree camera and it’s already available in Nepal. It’s candy-bar-shaped which brings minimal visual changes compared to the last-gen Insta360 X3 action camera. It is however slightly taller and 23 grams heavier than the X3. Likewise, the screen has gotten bigger. It’s 2.5-inch now with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. But the main USP here is the removable lens guard that can work as a shield while shooting in a tougher environment.

Insta360 X4 Design and Display

Moreover, the X4 can now shoot at 8K resolution at 30 frames per second. The 1/2-inch 72MP sensor can also shoot at  5.7K 60fps and 4K at up to 100fps. Plus, you can also use it as a typical action cam with its single-lens mode at up to 4K 60fps.  In Me Mode, the camera can digitally remove the selfie stick from the scene.

Go Pro Hero 12 Black

Next on the list of best action cameras in Nepal is the GoPro Hero 12 Black. GoPro is one of the industry leaders in action cameras, and its Hero series dominates the market. The Go Pro Hero 12 Black is the most recent addition to this lineup.

The Hero 12 Black maintains its boxy design from the Hero 11 Black but introduces a dotted pattern on the rear display. With a 1.4-inch front display and a 2.27-inch rear display, it’s water-resistant up to 33 feet underwater.

Featuring a 27-megapixel 1/1.9-inch sensor, it captures high-res photos and records videos at 5.3K resolution, 60 fps, and HDR in both 8-bit and 10-bit settings. HyperSmooth 6.0 technology ensures electronic image stabilization and additional features include HyperView and Horizon Lock.

Notably, the Hero 12 Black excels in battery life, offering up to 70 minutes on 5K 60fps mode with its 1720mAh Enduro battery. Bluetooth support allows audio recording via TWS and headphones, functioning as a microphone. Honestly, there are some downsides to this, like it has a subpar low-light performance, and doesn’t even come with a magnetic mount. Despite that, it has excellent stabilization and even has a higher resolution than DJI Action 4.

GoPro Hero 12 Black Specifications:

  • Camera: 27MP sensor

DJI Osmo Action 4

Similarly, DJI  takes another spot with DJI Osmo Action 4, which comes in two options.  The pioneer drone-making company is also very popular in the action camera segment.

The Action 4 stands out with its 1/1.3″ 10MP CMOS sensor, offering improved low-light performance. The color temperature sensor enhances color accuracy. With a pixel size of 2.4µm and a 155° FOV, it supports digital zoom up to 4x for photos and 2x for videos.

Capable of recording up to 4K 120fps videos, the Action 4 features advanced stabilization, including 360 degrees HorizonSteady and Rocksteady 3.0. Weighing 145g, it’s waterproof up to 18m without a case and can withstand temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius. The dual display setup includes a 2.25-inch primary and a 1.4-inch front display.

The absence of built-in GPS can be addressed with a GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller, wearable as a watch with a mini display. Infinix develops 720° SphereTech which might prove to be the next mobile payment standard

0

Infinix is famous for offering power-packed phones at relatively affordable prices. However, they have also been active in other sectors of technology. They are taking major steps in building an ecosystem and also have touted their phones with MagSafe-like technology. Now, Infinix has developed the 720° SphereTech which might turn out to be crucial in the field of mobile payments.

Infinix 720° SphereTech Overview

We all know NFC

We all know NFC, or at least have heard about it. It’s a wireless technology that one uses to do all sorts of stuff like making payments, opening car doors, and in the case of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 installing a screen saver from the phone’s case. For this technology, the device is embedded with a dedicated chip and software and allows for data exchange by operating at a frequency of 13.56 MHz.

NFC Features

Additionally, NFC is designed in such a way that it only transfers a really limited amount of data. This is because they are required to be power efficient and have a slow data transfer rate. However, that also turns out to be a drawback of the technology with an operating range of only a couple of centimeters. Moreover, it translates to having to align your NFC-embedded device pretty close to the reader.

Enter 720° SphereTech NFC

Normally, a phone has an NFC chip somewhere around the back of the phone. This is why, the user has to stick the phone’s back onto the reader whenever using the feature. As a result, using an NFC can be quite a hassle and bothersome task. Infinix realised this and developed the 720° SphereTech NFC technology. What this technology does is the same as a regular NFC, but better.

SphereTech NFC vs regular NFC

With the 720° SphereTech NFC, users need not worry about having to face the back of their phones to the reader. Infinix has increased the card reading area by twice such that you can use NFC by tapping the front, top, and as well as back of the phone. The company has apparently fiddled around with the material type of the chip and as a result, achieved a wider range and more optimal signal strength. Furthermore, Infinix has encrypted the technology with advanced protocols and layered it with multiple levels of authentication process to ensure users’ data safety.

Infinix 720° SphereTech: Conclusion

It is undeniable that NFC is a very convenient feature. Thanks to it things like contactless payment, access to spaces without a physical key, easier ticketing, etc. have been possible. Now Infinix has taken it a step further by enhancing its range making it easier to use. Given its nature, the Infinix 720° SphereTech might turn out to be the golden standard for NFC technology very soon.

We can expect to see this tech in future Infinix smartphones. Meanwhile, other companies might also emulate this technology and incorporate it into their devices. This is again, good news, as we as customers get to enjoy a convenient technology more easily.

Xiaomi 15 Pro in the works with a large 6,000 mAh battery

As Xiaomi’s launch event is closing in on us, we started hearing more about what the company plans to offer this year. We already have decent information on the regular Xiaomi 15. Now, bubbles are beginning to form around the Pro model too! So, let’s look at all the rumours and talks surrounding the Xiaomi 15 Pro to date.

Xiaomi 15 Pro Rumours Round-up

Battery and Charging

The latest news on the phone comes about its battery. As per Digital Chat Station — one of the most active and trusted leakers, Xiaomi is testing its upcoming phone with a larger battery. 6,000 mAh large to be more specific. If this turns out to be true, this will be a nearly 23% jump from the 4,880 mAh we got on the Xiaomi 14 Pro! In the same Weibo post, the leaker also mentioned that the charging speed would be 90W, which is a massive cut from the 120W on the previous model.

Xiaomi 14 Charging

This new information is quite a step away from what they previously said. Formerly, they reported that the Xiaomi 15 Pro would come with a 5,400 mAh battery and 100W charging support. Which sounds about alright apart from one tiny detail. The testing was supposedly done with a silicon anode battery, which is a similar type of battery tech we see on Honor phones. Using silicon in the battery allows it to yield a higher power density which results in more compact cell sizes.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

It is pretty obvious at this point that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will ship with the upcoming Qualcomm processor. Rumours are brewing about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as well. So far, we’ve heard that this chipset will have two prime cores and six performance cores. However, due to some complications, the American foundry might throw in two efficiency cores to balance things out. Only time will tell.

What else?

There are some whispers about the design going on. The Xiaomi 15 Pro will apparently come with a 2.5D curved AMOLED panel that measures 6.73 inches in size. Furthermore, the screen will have a 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The company introduced a titanium frame in last year’s model, so we can expect it to remain unchanged. But, the phone is reportedly going up in the dust and water resistance department with an IP69 rating.

Xiaomi 15 Pro IP69

Additionally, the upcoming Xiaomi phone is said to have a triple 50MP rear camera setup — similar to its base variant. However, the Pro model is in talks to be touted with an OmniVision OV50K and a Sony IMX8-series sensors for its primary and telephoto shooters respectively. Furthermore, sources are expecting the latter to be capable of 5x optical zoom.

Xiaomi 15 Pro Launch and Availability

Xiaomi will obviously launch the 15 Pro alongside the regular model, which will supposedly launch sometime in October. In the meantime, this phone had a rather limited international presence, sadly that might be the case for this year too.

Intel’s response to its defective CPUs

0

After months of struggle, Intel confirms that they found the issue causing their CPUs to crash. The company intends to address the processor’s ‘troublesome elevated operating voltage’ problem with a microcode patch. In this article, we will discuss about Intel’s response to its defective 13th and 14th gen CPUs

The reason behind the defect

At the end of February this year, Thomas Hannaford (Intel) confirmed that Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen unlocked desktop processors were experiencing issues with certain workloads.  Intel now confirms that they have found the issue causing the CPUs to crash. However, this response of Intel’s to its issue is a bit vague.

A report by Hannaford says, “We have determined that elevated operating voltage is causing instability issues in some 13th/14th Gen desktop processors. Our analysis of returned processors confirms that the elevated operating voltage stems from a microcode algorithm resulting in incorrect voltage requests to the processor.”

So long story short all this issue was caused because the processors getting more voltage than usual. This extra voltage was making the processors unstable, and that problem came from a mistake in the processor’s microcode.

The solution to the issue

Intel is now delivering a microcode patch which addresses the root cause of exposure to elevated voltages. They are continuing validation to ensure that scenarios of instability reported to Intel regarding its Core 13th/14th Gen desktop processors are addressed. Intel plans to release this fix to their partners around mid-August, once they’re sure it works correctly.

Intel 13th and 14th Gen Core Instability
Intel 13th and 14th Gen Core Instability

Is Intel hiding something from us?

Although they have told us the solution to the issue, they haven’t told us the full story here. Intel has mentioned that their algorithm causing too much voltage can make CPUs unstable, but they haven’t said whether this high voltage damages the CPUs over time. They might be avoiding this topic to prevent a lot of users from trying to return their CPUs for replacements. According to Toms, the microcode patch won’t fix CPUs that are already having issues but will only stop the problem from affecting new CPUs. This makes the situation seem a bit suspicious.
