Redmi introducing new “Turbo” series: The Ultimate Midrange!

Xiaomi’s sub-brand — Redmi has some of the most iconic smartphone series. This includes the likes of the K-series, the Note series, the numbered series and even the A-series of smartphones. Now, we are getting a separate “Turbo” series from Redmi and we are here to talk about it!

Redmi Turbo Series Overview

The announcement of the new Redmi Turbo series comes after the company outlined their plan for the coming decade. Additionally, the Xiaomi sub-brand also announced its new product matrix. This matrix gives us an idea of Redmi products’ hierarchy as well as the price bracket. Here is how all the Redmi series are lined up for the next 10 years:

Redmi Product Matrix

1. K-Series

Starting with the K-series, it’s the flagbearer of the Redmi brand. The series started as the flagship killer and slowly moved into the flagship space itself. Hence, you can expect K-series phones to include high-end flagship phones with almost no compromise in tech and performance.

2. Turbo Series

The new Redmi Turbo series sits right behind the top-of-the-line K-series. Meaning — this series will have the upper midrange phones that blur the line between flagships and midrange. So basically, the Redmi Turbo series will be filling the vacant space left by the K-series, after it shifted into the flagship space.

3. Note Series

Moving on, the Note series is hands down the most popular series from the brand. It sits under the Redmi Turbo series in the matrix, at a more comfortable midrange space. The entire Redmi Note 13 series — especially the Pro+ variant — was perfectly balanced. So much so, that it’s hard to make a case against them.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus Design
Redmi Note 13 Pro+

Redmi Note series will continue on this trajectory and provide well-balanced phones with flagship-inspired features in a midrange price bracket.

4. Number Series

Next up is the Redmi’s titular numbered series. It consists of and will continue to have affordable phones. As per the company, they aim to raise the industry standard for the basic functionality of a smartphone with this series. Thus, we can expect them to continue offering quality features at a pocket-friendly price point.

5. A-Series?

The company skipped mentioning anything about the Redmi A-series in their announcement. This series operates a price tag that the other companies have long ditched and forgotten. So, does this mean Redmi is walking the same road? Or there isn’t anything interesting to share about the series? I guess, we will just have to wait and see.

Redmi A3 Rear Design

On a side note, the latest entry in the series — the Redmi A3 was quite a good package. Why not take some time to read our review of the phone?

First Entry in the series: Redmi Turbo 3?

As it stands, the first entry in the series is set to be the Redmi Turbo 3! Now, a straight jump to the number “3” seems uncalled for on the surface. However, we did get the Turbo 1 and 2. But as the Redmi Note 11T Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Turbo. So, technically we are in fact on the third iteration of the Turbo series. This should also mean that the Redmi Note 13 Turbo will just be the Redmi Turbo 3 instead.

Redmi Turbo 3 Marketing

While on the subject of Redmi Turbo 3, the phone will possibly carry on the exterior of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ and opt for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on the inside. This phone reportedly scored an AnTuTu score of over 1.7 million during the lab test. Therefore, the Redmi Turbo 3 will come with flagship-like performance, while sitting on the budget space.

Redmi Turbo Series: Conclusion

The Redmi Note series was getting convoluted with all the Pro, Pro+, T, and Turbo variants. Therefore, by separating the “Turbo” from the Note series and creating an entirely new series — it clears up a lot of confusion. On top of that, it also opens up wider marketing and sales opportunities for the company. Lastly, as a consumer, it is good to have great products with easier names to remember.

Best Budget Speakers Under NPR 3,000 in Nepal [Updated]

Gone are the days when you required big TVs and expensive sound systems to enjoy your movies and music. These days all you need is your phone and a good-sounding portable speaker. Fortunately, both these industries have come far from the old days. Today, you can get a decent pair of smartphones and Bluetooth speakers on a budget. In this article, we will be focusing on the latter so without further ado here’s the list of best budget portable speakers under NPR 3000 in Nepal.

Best Budget Portable Speakers Under NPR 3000 in Nepal [Updated]

6. X-Age Convo Mono Pod

Starting the list of the best budget portable speakers under NPR 3000 in Nepal is the X-Age Convo Mono Pod. In case you didn’t know, X-Age is a homegrown Nepali brand. Talking of the product itself, the little guy comes in a cylindrical shape with pores at the top.

It is powered by 45mm drivers that deliver 5W of power. Additional features of the ConvE Mono Pod 5W include support for FM radio, TF (microSD)/USB card play, and compatibility with Bluetooth calling, thanks to the built-in microphone. With true wireless stereo (TWS) support, you can pair two speakers for an expansive soundstage that fills any space.

In terms of the audio quality, we found it to be okay for the price. If you are an audio fanatic who knows the basics, you might notice that it’s a bit weak on the vocals and trebles side. It also lacks an IP rating. And the 1200mAh cell provides a battery life of 4 hours. So, this guy becomes suitable for indoor usage apparently.

X-Age ConvE Mono Pod 5W

X-Age ConvE Mono Pod Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 96 x 96  x 32 mm
  • Driver Size: 14mm
  • Range: 10m
  • Bluetooth: v4.2
  • Battery Capacity: 1200 mAh
  • Battery Charging: Full charge in 3-4 hours
  • Ip Rating: N/A
  • Audio: 5W
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 2,199

5. Purple PBS-001

Next, we have PBS-001. It’s from Purple, which is another new Nepali OEM brand. The brand mainly focuses on smartwatches and TWS earbuds. As a result, the PBS-001 is the only portable Bluetooth speaker from the company so far. It’s priced at NPR 2,99, but you can get it for cheaper as it tends to go on sale on Daraz time and again.

It has a unique dome-shaped design with the driver firing upwards through perforations that remind me of the Y-shaped logo of the Lenovo Legion brand.

At 240 grams, it is the heaviest speaker on this list, which I would have been okay with if it packed a high impedance driver, but what you get here is a 4 Ohm speaker with a 5W output which is loud but not uncommon in this price range.

Talking about the sound, Purble PBS-001 delivers clear vocals and decent highs. You can notice distortions at higher levels so it is best to leave the speaker at 60 – 80% range. There is bass too but it is not as prominent as the mids and the highs.

Weirdly enough, all the buttons are placed on the bottom in a horse-shoe-like arrangement which is not convenient at all. The buttons don’t have the same level of tactility – some buttons are more clicky and others which kind of feels weird. Also, the 4-hour battery life is just decent.

Purple PBS-001

Purple PBS-001 Specifications:

  • Dimension: 100 x 100 x 45.5mm
  • Weight: 240 grams
  • Audio Driver: 5W, 4 Ohm, 52mm
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0
  • Controls: Power on, Volume up/down, Play/Pause button
  • Battery backup: Up to 4 hours
  • Protection: IPX4
  • I/O: Micro-USB (Charging)
  • Built-in microphone: Yes
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 2,499

4. Havit SK800BT

Fourth on our list of best budget speakers in Nepal is the Havit SK800BT. Before we get into the audio bits, I would like to highlight how well-designed this speaker is. It has this compact form factor that is best suited for a computer desk or even bedside. This is a front-facing speaker with a fabric grille over the driver. You have all the controls on the top where you can easily access them. They are quite clicky as well. All the ports are concealed by a flap at the back. You also get a lanyard for times you do decide to take the speaker outdoors.

I was pretty surprised by its loudness as Havit advertises it as a 4W speaker. It gets a little noisy at the highest volume but it’s still enjoyable nonetheless. Havit SK800BT has better depth and instrument separation compared to the Purble PBS-001. The bass, though not punchy, is also better.

The only complaint that I have with this speaker is its battery life. It is only rated for 6 hours of playback at moderate volume. Also, it takes quite a long time to charge fully (~ 4 hours).

HAVIT SK800BT

Havit SK800BT Specifications:

  • Dimension: 96 x 68 x 64mm
  • Weight: 190 grams
  • Protection: IPX6 (Water Resistant)
  • Audio Driver: 4W,
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 (up to 10m)
  • Controls: Play/Pause, Volume up/down, Multi-function button
  • Battery: 3.7V / 900mAh
  • Battery backup: Up to 6 hours
  • I/O: Aux in Jack, MicroSD / TF Slot, FM, Micro-USB (Charging)
  • Built-in microphone: Yes
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 2,199

3. Ultima Dynamite

Starting at around Rs. 2,000, it is the most affordable speaker on this list. This speaker is from Ultima, a Nepal-based OEM, which is growing in popularity in both offline and online spaces.

Coming to the Dynamite, it sports a rugged design and is also IPX6-rated against splashes. Despite the tough design, the speaker is pretty lightweight as it’s mostly made of plastic. It has a built-in lanyard, too, which makes it easy to carry around. There are rubber feats throughout the outer woven texture allowing for different placements.

That said, I recommend placing it upright, as placing it otherwise can cause the surface underneath to vibrate, ruining the experience. Ultima Dynamite can get pretty loud, making it a viable option when going on a picnic or any outdoor adventure. That said, the overall audio quality is not that great if you are looking to install it on your desk or bedside. It has a boomy sound that sometimes masks mids and other details.

There is even a microphone in here that lets you activate voice assistant from the phone. Likewise, you can use it wired with the included audio jack or skip the phone entirely and blast your favorite music from an SD card. The company claims up to 11 hours of battery life on a single charge, but in our test, it was around 5 hours on high volume. That said, the endurance can vary depending on the usage.

Ultima Dynamite

Ultima Dynamite Speaker Specifications:

  • Dimension: 85 x 55 x 107mm
  • Weight: 250 grams
  • Audio Driver: 5W, 4 Ohm
  • Frequency Response: 70Hz – 18KHz
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0 + EDR (up to 10m)
  • Controls: Power on, Volume up/down, Multi-function button
  • Battery backup: Up to 11 hours
  • Protection: IPX6 (Water Resistant)
  • I/O: Aux in Jack, MicroSD / TF Slot, Micro-USB (Charging)
  • Built-in microphone: Yes
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 2,499

2. MIVI ROAM 2

This is not a problem with the next speaker on this list which is the Mivi Roam 2. It is a Bluetooth speaker with great battery life which also sounds good. The main selling point is undoubtedly its battery life. Mivi Roam 2 claims endurance of up to 24 hours but it is at mid-volume and you will have different experiences depending upon your usage. Still, the speaker lasted over multiple office days in our tests.

It’s compact, and the build quality is great, with an official IPX7 rating. There’s a wide range of colors to match the aesthetics of your room, and you can even take it outside by hanging it by the lanyard. You can even use it plugged in using an Aux-in cable. The built-in microphone means it can take on the role of a speakerphone too.

Even better is the overall sound quality. It is not as loud as the Wrap, nor does it have sharp trebles. The sound signature is quite balanced, so whether you listen to pop, rock, or hip-hop, you will surely get a pleasurable listening experience.

All in all, it’s a good all-around speaker for NPR 3000. But then, the balanced sound is not for everyone, as it can feel void of impact at times.

Mivi Roam 2

MIVI ROAM 2 Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 100 x 45 x 85 m
  • Weight: 204 grams
  • IP Rating: Yes, IPX7
  • Speaker Output: 5W
  • Battery: 2000mAh
  • Charging time: 3-4 hours
  • Playing time: 24 hours (mid-volume)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0
  • Price in Nepal: NPR 2,599

1. Ultima Rock

Bagging the best of the bunch crown is none other than the Ultima Rock speaker. This budget BT speaker packs impressive specs for the price and performs well too. First up, this guy boasts 12W of power, it is super loud too. And it doesn’t crank up that bad in the highest volume too. Plus, there are RGB lights on each side for a party vibe.

Ultima Rock Speaker

In terms of ingress protection, you get an IPX5 rating here. So, minor splashes of water shouldn’t damage this thing. Likewise, powering the Ultima Rock is a 2200mAh battery which tops up fully in 2.5 hours. Moreover, its compatibility with AUX, TWS, and Bluetooth underlines versatility in connecting to various devices.

Ultima Rock Specifications:

  • Dimension: 188 x 70 x 73mm
  • Weight: 595 grams
  • Protection: IPX5 (Water Resistant)
  • Audio Driver: 12W
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.3 (up to 10m)

Google finally agrees to delete browsing information collected in Incognito!

0

For years, Google’s Incognito mode has been promoted as a way for users to browse the internet without leaving any traces. However, Google is now facing the reality that this claim hasn’t held up. In a significant development, Google has agreed to delete or make anonymous billions of records of web browsing data collected during Incognito mode sessions, as part of a proposed class action settlement filed on Monday. In this article, let’s dive into discussing the latest Google Incognito Lawsuit saga in more detail.

Google Incognito Lawsuit Overview

What does the settlement involve?

The proposed settlement, stemming from the lawsuit Brown v. Google, aims to clarify Google’s data collection practices in Incognito mode and impose limits on future data collection. If approved by a federal judge in California, it could impact 136 million Google users. Initiated in 2020, the lawsuit was led by Google account holders alleging illegal tracking through Incognito mode.

Valued at $5 billion, the settlement’s worth is based on the data Google would delete and what it couldn’t gather. Google must address data collected in private browsing sessions up to December 2023, ensuring any remaining data is stripped of identifiable information.

Google Incognito Lawsuit

Responses to the Settlement

The plaintiffs hailed the settlement as a win for online privacy, emphasizing its role in holding Google accountable. Google’s response, however, was mixed. José Castañeda, a Google spokesperson, welcomed the resolution but clarified that no financial compensation would be provided. He assured users of Google’s commitment to privacy, stating that data from Incognito mode would be deleted and not used for personalization.

Google Incognito Lawsuit: Conclusion

As part of the agreement, Google must update its disclosures regarding the limitations of Incognito mode, a change already underway in Chrome. Additionally, for the next five years, users will have the option to block third-party cookies by default in Incognito mode, reducing Google’s ability to track their activities across external websites.

Despite the proposed settlement not including damages for the class, affected individuals retain the right to file claims for compensation in California state court. Already, 50 such claims have been submitted, indicating a potential increase in litigation stemming from this significant settlement.

KU has just made a remarkable breakthrough in hydrogen production and refueling tech!

Kathmandu University’s (KU) laboratory has achieved a significant milestone by successfully producing hydrogen from water and utilizing it as a vehicle fuel. Collaborating with the Nepal Oil Corporation, Kathmandu University established the hydrogen laboratory, and imported hydrogen vehicles, and refueling equipment from South Korea. Their efforts bore fruit and they have been able to make significant strides in Hydrogen refueling tech in Nepal.

Hydrogen Refueling by KU

Pioneering Efforts in Hydrogen Technology

Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa, the head of the laboratory, stated, “This marks a historic moment for Nepal. It is the first time that hydrogen production and vehicle refueling have been accomplished in the country. Today is a landmark day for hydrogen in Nepal.” He compared the accomplishment to scaling Mount Everest, emphasizing the extraordinary effort invested in achieving this feat.
Hydrogen refuelling by KU

Nepal’s Entry into the Hydrogen Age

According to TechPana, Dr. Thapa also highlighted the significance of this achievement, asserting that Nepal has officially entered the hydrogen age.

“The university itself has successfully conducted the work of producing hydrogen, storing it, and refilling it in vehicles. The hydrogen is prepared by processing Nepal’s hydropower and water”. – Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa

Formal Inauguration and Future Plans

Dr. Thapa announced that the refill station will be formally inaugurated through a program. He also indicated a shift towards emphasizing the commercial utilization of hydrogen. Furthermore, he mentioned the government’s involvement in policy-making endeavors to support the development of hydrogen technology.

Challenges Amid Progress

Despite the progress made, challenges persist, including the absence of necessary laws for issuing vehicle number plates for hydrogen vehicles. Dr. Thapa emphasized that Nepal’s abundant domestic resources of water and electricity position the country as a potential leader in hydrogen technology.

Hydrogen Refueling by KU: Conclusion

As Nepal continues to advance in the field of hydrogen production and utilization, there is a pressing need for the enactment of hydrogen-specific laws and regulations. This step will formally recognize hydrogen as a viable fuel source in Nepal’s energy landscape.

This web browser prides itself on being not only fast but also emphasizing safety and privacy for an optimal online experience. With its capacity to block unnecessary content quickly, Brave Browser outperforms other browsers by tripling its speed, resulting in faster browsing and extended battery life.

With built-in capabilities such as AdBlock, script disabling, and cookie management, your data remains secure and encrypted. But you shouldn’t overestimate your browser; it’s still better to strengthen your protection using a VPN. Moreover, good VPNs, like VeePN, can also bypass regional restrictions. You can use BetMGM VPN to access almost any content securely. Moreover, there is a free trial mode.

3. Shortcuts

The Shortcuts app for iPhone is a robust tool enabling users to automate complex tasks using custom or pre-designed sequences of actions that execute at a single prompt. Even more impressive is the app’s compatibility with an array of popular apps, including Safari, Weather, Maps, and Music, just to name a few. Imagine setting up a “Surf Time” shortcut that fetches the day’s surf conditions, calculates the time to get to the shore, and cues up the perfect surf soundtrack, all with one command. Or, consider the peace of mind that comes with an emergency shortcut that instantly informs a chosen contact about your location and activities in urgent situations.
