Apple’s new Watch Series 9 gets a price drop in Nepal

The long-anticipated Apple Watch Series 9 arrived a while ago, and it is packed with enhanced performance and software upgrades. Notably, customers can go with the carbon-neutral version of any Apple Watch as well. And it has received a sweet price drop in Nepal. Without further ado, let’s go through the official specs, features, availability, and the latest official price in Nepal of the new Apple Watch Series 9.

Apple Watch Series 9 Overview:

Design and Display

Apple has kept the design and display mostly unchanged, with the same square-shaped chassis available in 41mm or 45mm sizes in aluminum or stainless steel cases. There is a 1.69 or 1.9-inch curved Retina LTPO OLED screen with always-on display support. This screen can now achieve a peak brightness of up to 2,000 units, but aside from that, other display specifications remain identical to its predecessor.

In terms of build materials, the aluminum variant comes with an Ion-X glass display, while the stainless steel model offers the sapphire crystal glass. Like its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 9 does not offer a titanium casing. Straps are available in rubber, textile, or stainless steel. The weight varies between 31.9 grams and 51.6 grams, depending on the choice of case material and straps.

Regarding colors, the lineup offers options including Starlight, Midnight, Silver, (PRODUCT) RED, and a new Pink for the aluminum case. Stainless steel choices remain the same as the predecessor with Gold, Silver, and Graphite cases. Additionally, it is WR50 certified, which means the Watch Series 9 can survive as deep as 50 meters underwater. On top of that, it is also IP6X dust-resistant.

A new chip, finally

Yep, Apple has finally brought a notable performance boost with its new smartwatch. The new S9 SiP (System in Package) powering the Watch Series 9 is based on Apple’s A15 Bionic. This new dual-core CPU has 5.6 billion transistors — 60% more than the S8.

It also includes a new 4-core Neural Engine that can process machine learning tasks up to two times faster speed. The S9 SiP includes an upgraded ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, similar to the U1 chip, enabling precise location detection of nearby devices also equipped with this technology. It also brings a double-tap gesture, a faster Siri with health data access, precision finding for iPhone, and more.

Apple Watch Series 9 Processor

Likewise, the Apple Watch Series 9 is the first model to offer 64GB storage, marking the first storage upgrade since the Apple Watch Series 5, which had 32GB of onboard storage. WatchOS 10 is the biggest highlight of Apple’s next smartwatches. Importantly, it won’t only be for the new Apple Watch Series 9; it will also be available for existing Apple Watches, including the Watch Series 4 and newer models.

Health features

The Apple Watch Series 9 introduces advanced health monitoring with its accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor, equipped with a machine-learning algorithm. This algorithm detects unique wrist movements and blood flow changes upon a double-tap gesture (tap the index finger and thumb of their watch hand together), which is set to arrive in an upcoming software update next month.

The watch also offers mental health support tools. Additionally, it features health-focused apps and notifications, such as blood oxygen, temperature, ECG, heart rate alerts, irregular rhythm detection, and low cardio alerts, ensuring health tracking and timely warnings.

Rest of the specs

The Apple Watch Series 9 surely does have several new software features though, including the smart stack, new watch faces (Snoopy, Palette, Solar Analog, and Nike Globe), and enhanced cycling and hiking features.

Siri can now process requests on the watch itself, independent of WiFi or cellular networks, resulting in quicker responses. Additionally, there are improvements in dictation accuracy, making Siri’s performance 25% better here than on the Series 8.

Apple Watch Series 9 Smart Stack Feature

The Apple Watch Series 9 utilizes the digital crown, Taptic engine, and gestures such as tapping, swiping, wrist raising, and cover to mute for intuitive interactions too. Users can easily handle calls, control music, use it as a camera shutter, and perform tasks in their daily activities. As always, Apple is also throwing in three months of Apple Fitness+ subscription on the purchase of any new Apple Watch.

Unfortunately, the much-anticipated “Multiple Device Pairing” feature is nowhere to be found in the public beta. So, you’re still stuck on connecting your Apple Watch to a single iPhone, although the “Health” app is now available for iPads too.

Battery

As for the battery, the Watch Series 9 is rated to last 18 hours under normal usage. It can stretch to 36 hours in Low Power Mode. These claims are nothing new since this is what Apple promised with its predecessor too. The Series 9 does come with fast charging, but we don’t have the details on that just yet.

Infinix GT Verse — Infinix’s ecosystem of its own!

At this point, all the large tech companies have some version of an ecosystem of their devices. While Apple is the pioneer in this aspect, all the other heavy hitters like Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi have their own thing going on. Now, Infinix is also jumping in on the bandwagon and launching an ecosystem of its own dubbed the “GT Verse”.

Infinix GT Verse Overview

A little context…

Infinix is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer owned by Transsion Holdings. As such, it is a sister company with the likes of Tecno and Itel. In the meantime, Infinix produces more than just smartphones though. It has a decorated catalogue that includes simple things like power banks and earbuds as well as larger devices like laptops and TVs.

Infinix Logo and Slogan

While the company has a wide array of products, its primary focus lies on smartphones. It offers five multiple lineups of smartphones, namely: Zero series, GT series, Note series, Hot series, and Smart series. Herein, the GT series comprises performance-heavy phones and is all about the gamer personality. Infinix updated their lineup with the GT 20 Pro just a few days earlier.

Now, Transsion Holdings’ subsidiary is looking to expand its GT lineup further with different types of devices.

What’s cooking? Infinix GT Verse!

Infinix recently spilt some tea on its plans for the GT line of products. The company revealed a poster image on their social media that showcased a bunch of products. This included the already released GT 20 Pro along with a laptop, earbuds, and an “Arc Reactor” like accessory which appears to be a cooling fan for smartphones.

Infinix GT devices

Along with the poster, the company also announced that they are creating an ecosystem of GT products. Infinix announced their ecosystem would be called the “GT Verse”. The company also says that users will “Experience seamless connectivity and unparalleled performance across all GT devices delivering the ultimate AIoT experience.”

On a side note, the cover photo on Infinix’s handle also includes smartwatches that were not there on the poster.

Infinix GTBOOK

Just after a day after revealing the GT Verse, Infinix announced a new laptop under the GT name. This thing will be called the “GTBOOK” and will be stacked with raw hardware.

The Infinix GTBOOK continues on the Mecha Design we saw on GT 20 Pro. This laptop does not shy away from RGB lighting and features it on the keyboard and a strip at the back — right on top of the air vents. Meanwhile, on the front, it has a large 16-inch display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

Infinix GTBOOK

Inside it packs a powerful CPU and GPU combo of Intel i9-13900H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. Additionally, the GTBOOK comes with the ICE Storm 3.0 cooling system equipped with two fans to keep the temperature in check. Lastly, it is loaded with a 70Wh battery and supports a whopping 190W of charging speed.

Infinix GT Verse Conclusion

Given that, Infinix teased the GTBOOK right after announcing their ecosystem, it appears that the laptop will be the first to launch. Given that, GTBOOK will be the second member of the Infinix GT Verse.

So, when exactly are we getting the full GT Verse experience from Infinix? Well… the company chooses not to put a date on the full release. But, given that they already dropped the poster and teasers, we can tell that the devices are ready and are waiting for an announcement. Therefore, we can expect the Infinix GT Verse to be fully available in a matter of months.

Vivo launches Y38 5G with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor

Vivo just listed the Y38 5G on its website, however, we have already seen this phone before. It is more or less the same thing as the Vivo Y200i that launched a little while ago. Regardless, we will discuss the Vivo Y38 5G in further detail in this article, including its expected price in Nepal.

Performance

Under the helm, you get a relatively recent budget chip from Qualcomm with 5G support. To be more specific, it packs the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 that launched in mid-2023. This processor has eight cores, 4nm fabrication, and a peak clock speed of 2.2 GHz.

Vivo Y38 5G Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

In addition to the silicon, you get a combination of 8GB memory and 256GB storage on the Vivo Y38 5G. This phone ships in this sole configuration unlike the Vivo Y200i which is available in three different trims. In the meantime, this phone allows you to double the memory capacity virtually while offering storage expansion of up to 1TB via MicroSD card. Software-wise, it boots on the Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14.

Camera and the rest

Talking of the cameras on this phone, you get three units altogether. The rear shooters on the Vivo Y38 5G include a 50MP main camera coupled with a 2MP depth sensor. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera is an 8MP unit that serves as a face scanner as well.

Samsung’s Plan for Future Smartwatch and Smart Ring:

Q1 Financial Reports

With the Q1 financial reports, Samsung has denoted a consolidated revenue of whopping USD 52 billion, thanks to the strong sales of the flagship S24 smartphones as well as memory semiconductors. Its Mobile eXperinece (MX) business garnered higher earnings while the Visual Display and Digital Appliances also showed an increase in profits.

MX Business will expand with new Smartwatches

The report also mentions the expansion of its Mobile eXperience business by adding new models including premium ones and new form factor products like the Galaxy Ring. The current offering includes the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, which are some of the best in the ring of WearOS smartwatches.

The former is available in two dials sizes: 40mm and 44mm. And so is the latter with 43mm and 47mm sizes. Samsung also provided 5 ATM + IP68 certified and MIL-STD-810G compliant certifications for the duos, ensuring top-notch ingress protection. Plus, the health tracking features are also plenty here with 90 workout modes and real-time heart rate, SpO2, blood pressure plus skin temperature measurements.

Both siblings house an Exynos W930 processor with 2x Cortex-A55 cores at 1.4GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. Sensors-wise you are covered with a Samsung BioActive Sensor (Optical Heart Rate + Electrical Heart Signal + Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) and all other adequate sensors.

But if you peek at the competition, Apple’s Watch Ultra 2 packs a punch with more solid features and a premium price tag. So, Samsung might just add a direct competitor to it, by the Galaxy Watch Ultra moniker. Meanwhile, the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 Series is also designated to get some new tastes in terms of features like blood sugar monitoring.

Galaxy Smart Ring

While discussing the Smart Ring, the company has already unveiled a prototype at MWC 2024. As per Samsung, it will come in US rings sizes 5 to 13 with three color options: Ceramic Black, Platinum Silver, and Gold. Health tracking features will include heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, SpO2 measurement, and so on. Plus, rumors are also pointing toward an ECG sensor and an ability to control other Samsung devices as well.

Samsung Galaxy Ring Function

It’s still unclear when the Galaxy Smart Ring will be available. Meanwhile, rumor mills have also hinted at a smart ring coming in from Apple. So, it will be super exciting how the Galaxy Ring and Apple Ring go against each other.
