Realme C51 Review: Your typical budget phone!

Well, hello there! I am back again with a review of another budget smartphone — the Realme C51! I would like to once again remind you that I am not a fan of this segment. However, after reviewing the Honor X6a, I am much more open to budget phones like these.

Additionally, Realme has been making waves with its recent midrange and premium-midrange offerings. So, I was quite curious to see how they do on the affordable end. Well, let’s explore that in this review of the Realme C51!

Realme C51 Review

Design and Build

  • Dimensions: 167.67 mm x 66.70 mm x 7.99 mm
  • Weight: 186 grams
  • Material: All plastic build

The Realme C51 comes in this weird two-textured design that is kind of hit or miss. I asked a few of my colleagues for their opinions on how they liked the design of this phone. Some of them liked it, and some of them did not. I don’t particularly like it — fond of the glittery bottom, but the glossy portion — not so much.

Realme C51 Design

The phone is on the leaner end, so despite its flat design, it is quite comfortable to hold. The silicone case you get alongside the phone is also two-textured and grey in colour. I think this colour might help against the annoying tanning problem that plagues the clear cases. All in all, I think it’s alright.

Display

  • 6.74” IPS LCD Panel, HD+ (1600 x 720)
  • 90Hz Refresh Rate, 180Hz Touch Sampling Rate, 560 nits peak brightness, 16.7M colour depth

Moving on to the screen, it is decent. Not as punchy and vibrant as I would like, but it’s good enough that I can live with it. The bezels are present, but you get used to it with time. Thanks to the 90Hz refresh rate on this phone, scrolling around feels smooth and fluid.

Realme C51 Display

I did not feel any noticeable stutters, but, the image quality sure is grainy. The photos on social media look low in quality — even when they are not. The images look flushed out and lack details. What I found surprising was the haptic feedback on the phone, which is quite nice, in my opinion.

Performance

  • CPU & GPU: Octa-core Unisoc Tiger T612 (12nm) + Mali-G57
  • Memory and Storage: 4 GB + 64 GB + 4 GB extended RAM
  • OS & UI: Android 13 with Realme UI T Edition on top

Now let’s talk about the engine of the device. The phone comes with a chip that a lot of people have not even heard about. And Realme themselves are keeping it under wraps — by not mentioning what chipset they are running on in any of their promotional material. Despite all the secrets surrounding the processor, Realme C51’s performance is actually pretty good.

There aren’t any issues during regular usage — the phone handles it quite well. So, to put the phone to the test, I turned back to the same three trusted games of mine — Candy Crush Saga, Dream League Soccer, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. I’ll skim through the results with this one. There were no issues with Candy Crush. I could play Dream League Soccer on High graphics settings on 60 FPS. Meanwhile, for Mobile Legends I had to stick with the the lowest graphics. All in all, I could properly play all these games on this phone. It’s a WIN for me!

Realme C51 DLS

Don’t forget to extend your RAM though! Because there is a considerable difference in the performance of your phone when you have your RAM boosted, compared to when you don’t. I did find the Realme C51 struggling in one particular area but first, let’s talk about the…

UI

This is clearly where Realme has cut corners to keep the price of the C51 down. Because — MY LORD — is this phone LOADED with ads and bloatware! Starting with the homepage there’s a handful of bloatware. Open up your app drawer, and more bloatware. It’s so rampant that you’ll get an ad after you install an app from the Play Store! WILD!

But, it’s not something unheard of. You kind of expect this behaviour from budget phones in general. And you learn to live with it over time anyway, so there’s that. Now that’s out of the way — the UI in itself — it’s pretty nice. You get this “Mini Capsule” feature with the Realme C51, which is a knock-off of Apple’s Dynamic Island. As of now it only displays three things: charging status, data usage, and daily steps. It isn’t much but it looks kind of cool, not gonna lie. But at the end of the day, it’s just a gimmick and isn’t a valuable addition to the phone in any way.

Camera

  • Rear Camera: 50 MP Primary + Unspecified Depth Sensor
  • Front Camera: 5 MP Camera

In terms of camera, the Realme C51 does a decent job. The camera app is minimal and quite nice. But one feature, in particular, caught my attention — the aperture slider, which really comes in handy when taking portrait shots.

Realme C51 Camera

Daytime

The daytime images are pretty decent with sufficient details and a warmer tone. The phone has to work hard in HDR conditions, and even then it might not produce satisfactory results. Additionally, the images can be a little overprocessed at times. But that isn’t always the case — more often than not, it does a decent job.

Portrait

Remember me telling you that I found this phone struggling a little earlier? Yes, this is where the phone struggles. It takes its sweet time to process portrait shots. Moreover, the edge detection in this phone is pretty poor.

Night shots

The night shots lack the details and look a bit grainy. Expecting a good night shot from a budget phone is unfair anyway, so I’ll let it pass. The Realme C51 offers a “Night Mode” which takes a little longer than usual to capture a photo and produces a more vibrant result compared to a regular shot.

Selfies

The selfies look nice on the get-go, but you’ll notice the lack of details once you zoom in. The details deplete even more with portrait shots. Realme C51’s edge detection remains as bad as it was on the rear camera.

Lastly, on the video side of things, the back camera captures videos at 1080p@30fps. Meanwhile, the front camera caps out at 720p@30fps. The video quality is pretty standard, nothing unexpected going on here.

Battery

  • Battery: 5,000 mAh cell
  • Charging: 33W SUPERVOOC charging

Talking of the powerhouse of the Realme C51 — it’s a 5,000 mAh cell — pretty standard these days. Furthermore, it is coupled with a chipset that prioritises battery life. As a result, a full day of usage should be no problem for this phone. And talking of the charging, the Realme C51 can juice up pretty fast with the 33W charger it ships with it.

Realme C51 Charging

During my test, the phone charged from 3% to 100% in about 1 hour and 12 minutes. And say, if your battery is low and you need to head out shortly, a 15-minute charge should provide enough power to prevent the Realme C51 from dying on you.

Realme C51 Review: Conclusion

To conclude this review of Realme C51, I must say it is an average phone that doesn’t do anything exceptionally well to stand out from the crowd. On the flip side,  it doesn’t do anything so poor that I would ask you to steer clear from it either.

So, as a device for general usage and casual gaming, the Realme C51 can be the right pick for the right kind of buyer.

However, I don’t think this phone is the bang-for-buck deal you would be looking for. Something like the Redmi 12 is still a better offering at a similar price bracket. But the difference isn’t a lot, so you won’t miss out on much with this phone either. Nonetheless, do check out our list of best smartphones under NPR 20,000 to see if any other devices in a similar price range will suit your taste better.

Asus TUF Dash F15 (2022) Price in Nepal [Updated]

2

Nagmani International, the official distributor for Asus in Nepal, has launched a new gaming laptop in Nepal. The gaming machine in question is the TUF Dash F15 (2022) which brings 12th Gen Core i5 processor and RTX 3070 graphics. So, let’s look at the official specifications, features, official price, and availability of the Asus TUF Dash F15 (2022) in Nepal.

Asus TUF Dash F15 (2022) Overview:

Performance

Over the years, the most distinguishing feature of the Asus TUF Dash F15 from the rest of the regular TUF Gaming F15 has been the processor, and it’s no different this year. The TUF Dash F15 is supposed to be a more affordable and even more portable version of the F15. As a result, you will find differences in processing power and cooling prowess in these two laptops.

The 2022 edition of the TUF Dash F15 is available in two CPU configurations. As per the company, users can expect a 5-10% of average performance boost just by enabling the direct GPU mode from the Armoury Crate.

Cooling and Upgradability

For uninterrupted gaming, the latest TUF Dash Gaming F15 comes with two Arc Flow fans with 84 blades. The varying sharpness of the blades helps reduce air collision and anti-resonance for up to 13% airflow. In addition, you get a total of five heat pipes and four exhaust vents.

This laptop ships with the latest DDR5 memory running at 4800MHz. Asus offers it in 8GB and 16GB variations, but you can always upgrade it to 32GB when you like. Furthermore, the TUF Dash F15 has a dual SSD slot for storage expansion.

Humane Ai Pin will not replace smartphones. Here’s why

0

As we step into 2024, the tech world is buzzing with advancements in display technology and immersive experiences. Yet, Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, founders of AI startup Humane, are charting a different path. They’ve introduced a unique innovation, the Humane Ai Pin. In this article let’s talk about Humane’s Ai Pin, its features, specifications, and expected price in Nepal.

Humane Ai Pin: An Overview

Humane, led by two ex-Apple employees, has unveiled its latest creation, the Ai Pin, amidst months of teasers and demos.  This wearable, comprising a square device and a magnetic battery pack, enters the arena of AI-powered gadgets, promising a shift in user-device interaction.

Design and Display

Utilizing a laser beam scanning projection system, the Ai Pin creates a unique interactive Laser Ink Display on the user’s palm. Consisting of a traditional pin-like body, the wearable, available in Eclipse, Equinox, and Lunar color options, attaches to clothing via magnets, similar to a body-worn camera.

Humane Ai Pin

With no traditional touchscreen, the wearable incorporates a touchpad area supporting gestures for efficient access to various AI-powered tasks. Users can interact with the pin via voice and taps as well.

Processor

Fueled by an unspecified octa-core 2.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage, the Ai Pin supports on-device AI operations. This processing power ensures seamless execution of AI tasks, including language translation and voice messaging.

Features

  • AI Integration:

The Ai Pin’s primary function is to connect to AI models through the proprietary AI Mic software. Collaboration with Microsoft and OpenAI, particularly relying on ChatGPT access, is highlighted as the device’s core feature. The operating system, Cosmos, promises streamlined user queries without the hassle of managing various apps.

  • Functionalities

Humane envisions the Humane Ai Pin as a ‘revolutionary’ step toward simplifying technology interfaces, and eliminating traditional settings and accounts. It claims to execute commands effortlessly through voice, touch, and gestures. The list of functionalities includes voice-based messaging, email summarization, camera-based nutritional information retrieval, real-time translation, and an AI-powered search engine. While plans to integrate navigation and shopping capabilities and open avenues for developers sound promising, skepticism lingers about the actual execution.

Camera

Featuring a 13-megapixel camera with a 120-degree field-of-view and an f/2.4 aperture, the Ai Pin does its job snapping pictures but to claim ” it excels” would be an overstatement. While it currently supports photo capture, the company expects to introduce video capture capabilities through a future software update.

Humane AI Pin design

To prioritize user privacy, the device incorporates a Trust Light—a multifunctional LED indicator that glows green during image capture, pink during phone calls, and orange/white during microphone and scan usage, respectively.

Connectivity and Extras

The Ai Pin ensures connectivity with 4G (eSIM), dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS. Equipped with sensors such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, and ambient light sensor, the wearable provides a comprehensive set of data for an immersive user experience. The Ai Pin supports wireless charging but can be charged via USB-C too.

Challenges up ahead: My Take

Okay, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, shall we? Sure, the Humane Ai Pin might be an innovation, but not every innovation makes things better. We’re in the 21st century, deeply in love with our smartphones. Now, the Humane AI seems like a dream for minimalists – the kind who probably only own one pair of shoes and call it a day. But reality check: people also crave screens. It’s ingrained in us, shaped by the smartphone culture we’ve grown up in. Some people even have ADHD; visual learning has become a jam and people are not ready to give it up.

And let’s be real, not everyone wants to be best friends with an AI. Some people just appreciate the beauty of silence. Enter texting – a savior for introverts who’d rather not engage in chit-chat with artificial intelligence. There’s a different kind of fun in texting, Emojis, all caps for emphasis – it’s a whole language on its own. Picture this: you’re in a crowded place, and suddenly you’re forced to speak into a microphone to communicate with your AI. Awkward much? People might even mistake you for a spy on a secret mission.

Moreover, Speech recognition is already a hot mess. Google Assistant struggles with the English of non-native speakers, thanks to those accent problems. And don’t even get us started on third languages – it’s like speaking a foreign language with yourself. ChatGPTs? Well, they’re not exactly polyglots. Take Nepali, for instance. It’s like the forgotten cousin at the family reunion – occasionally mixed up with Hindi, struggling for recognition.

Smartphone Replacement?

In all seriousness, the Humane Ai Pin is not a bad idea in itself. It might work pretty nicely for people who want a more minimalist ecosystem. But to claim, it would erase smartphones from their existence would be an erroneous assumption.

Humane Ai Pin: Price in Nepal and Availability

The Humane Ai Pin costs a whopping $699 and requires a $24 monthly subscription available via T-Mobile in the US. Scheduled for preorders on November 16th and shipments in early 2024, the Ai Pin’s true impact remains to be seen. If it makes it here, we expect the Human Ai Pin price in Nepal to be around NPR 111,111.

Product Price (US) Price in Rs (Expected)
Humane Ai Pin $699/- + $24/month Rs.111,111/- + Rs.4999/Month

Redmi Note 13R Pro is official with Dimensity 6080 and 108MP camera

1

The Redmi Note 13 series has been around for almost a month. And now, the ‘R’ variant of Note 13 Pro is official in China. So without any further delay, let’s discuss the Redmi Note 13R Pro features, specifications, and its expected price in Nepal in this article today.

Redmi Note 13R Pro Overview:

Design and Display

Design-wise, the Redmi 13R Pro looks a bit distinct from the Note 13 5G. The back panel has a wider island for the camera with the brand name on it. The dimensions and weight are barely different, though, with the device measuring around 161.11×74.95×7.73 mm and weighing nearly 174g.

Redmi Note 13R Pro Design and Display

As for the display, you’re greeted with a 6.67-inch screen with FHD+ resolution (1080×2400px). This AMOLED panel boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 1920Hz PWM dimming, 10-bit color depth, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut support. Moreover, color options include Midnight Black, Time Blue, and Morning Light Gold.

Performance

Under the hood, the Note 13R Pro gets the same Dimensity 6080 chipset as the vanilla Redmi Note 13. This 5G chip from Mediatek features two cores of Cortex-A76 running at 2400 MHz and six cores of Cortex-A55 clocking at 2000 MHz. Handling the graphics is a Mali-G57 MP2 GPU.

NVIDIA RTX 50 series launch date leaked

1

Approaching 2024, anticipation is mounting for Nvidia’s next-gen flagship graphics card, rumored to be the RTX 5090. Initial rumors made this GPU to be a total beast, whereas the later developments said “not so much”. Recently, an NVIDIA insider supposedly even spilt beans on the launch date. Anyhoo, let’s delve into all the rumors surfacing about the RTX 5090!

NVIDIA RTX 5090: Rumors Roundup

Recent leaks indicate the GB202 GPU will power the NVIDIA RTX 5090, initially thought to feature a 512-bit memory bus. However, recent information reveals a more plausible 384-bit bus configuration. Rumors also indicate that the GPU will incorporate cutting-edge GDDR7 memory, with Micron and Samsung preparing for production and shipment in 2024.

 What to expect?

NVIDIA Graphics card

GDDR7, a long-anticipated development, is poised to deliver up to 50% more bandwidth, potentially reaching speeds of 36Gbps. This leap in memory technology might eliminate the need for a wider memory bus, NVIDIA RTX 5090 also projects a total bandwidth of 1.5TB/s over the 384-bit bus — a considerable advance from the capabilities of the RTX 4090.

In addition, recent information introduces a twist to the narrative, challenging earlier claims about the memory bus. RedGamingTech suggests the NVIDIA RTX 5090 will adopt 36Gbps GDDR7 memory on a 384-bit bus, potentially incorporating an increased L2 cache of up to 96 MB.

More Speculation

Beyond memory enhancements, NVIDIA is rumored to adopt their new GPU architecture codenamed “Blackwell”. Furthermore, a substantial increase in shader count, 192 SMs, and a transition to a 3nm fabrication process for the GB202 GPU. These enhancements fuel expectations that the NVIDIA RTX 5090 could emerge as the undisputed champion of the consumer graphics card.

The expectations are especially high since the RTX 4090 was almost twice as good as the RTX 3090 in the 3DMark Time Spy Graphics benchmark. As such, the RTX 5090 was initially speculated to bring an improvement of 2.6 times. However, it appears to be untrue with the recent developments. Additionally, sources are saying that NVIDIA might make it seem like the RTX 5090 is bringing a substantial improvement in the CES 2025.

NVIDIA RTX 5090: Pricing and Availability

As excitement builds, speculation turns to pricing. While the RTX 4090 currently holds a premium card position at USD 1,599. Projections suggest that the RTX 5090 could carry an even higher USD 1,999 price tag.

Talking of the launch date, MLID’s report suggests that NVIDIA is planning to launch their newest cards in the fourth quarter of 2024, as per their inner sources. Furthermore, the company might even launch the RTX 50 series early based on RTX 40 sales as well as the RDNA 4 position. As mentioned earlier, NVIDIA may announce their new cards in CES 2025. In conclusion, the RTX 50 might see the light of day near the end of 2024 or early 2025.

Sideloading apps on iPhone will finally be possible shortly, thanks to EU

0

It looks like the European Union is not done getting Apple under its regulations. Initially, the EU mandated the transition from the lightning port to USB-C, followed by the adoption of RCS in iMessage. Even that wasn’t enough, and now iPhones are compelled to support sideloading with external app stores to comply with European regulations.

iPhone App Sideloading: Overview

What is sideloading?

Application sideloading is a way to install apps from external sources without the need for the device’s native distribution method (i.e., an app store). Which, in the case of iPhones, is Apple’s App Store.

iPhone App Sideloading: App Store

Previously, iOS users faced limitations, lacking the means to install apps from alternative app stores or a package installer. While sideloading on iPhones was possible, it was deemed much of a hassle.

Why didn’t Apple allow it before?

As you know, random apps can be a huge security threat to your device. The given application may be malicious and such, but most importantly, it might pose a privacy issue. Android does support sideloading, but it comes with the problems mentioned above. Even the ads bait you into installing malware on your device.

Hence, as gatekeepers of privacy, Apple implemented a strict app approval process for a secure iOS experience and didn’t allow any sideloading shenanigans officially.

iPhone App Sideloading - Security Threat

Apple’s “Highly Controlled System”

Now that the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) necessitates sideloading, Apple will be launching a “highly controlled system” around it. They could go with a verification system similar to Mac that allows users to install apps outside the Mac App Store while remaining safe. Whatever their system is, the company might have found a way to make sideloading reliable.

What’s the Positive Side?

Even though there are several downsides to sideloading, the advantages just can’t be overlooked. For example, iPhone users will have broader application choices, not limited to the App Store. Not only that, the updates to the apps can be sent much quicker, as they won’t require approvals from the store.

Moreover, developers won’t have to pay 15 to 30 percent fees. This means that the app provider can increase the profit margin while decreasing the in-app purchase cost, ultimately benefiting the customer.

iPhone App Sideloading: Availability

As it seems, Apple will be releasing an update within the first half of 2024 that will support third-party stores to install software on iPhones in the EU. If any other countries amend a similar law to DMA, the feature could expand beyond the European Union.
