Behold iPhone owners, Google Gemini lands on App Store

0

Hey Siri, or how about Hey Gemini? The popular Android AI chatbot is now also available for iPhones. In this article, we’ll talk about the Gemini App for iPhone brings to the table and other information.

Gemini App for iPhone Overview

The Gemini App is finally available on the Apple app store. So iPhone users can download and try it. Google is claiming a more streamlined Gemini experience for iPhone users. And here are the features that you are getting:

Free-flow conversation

If you are kinda bored of talking with Siri every day, the Gemini Live on your iPhone allows a free-flow conversation. You can ask questions, take advice, develop creative ideas, and more. Similar to ChatGPT, we can say! There are 10 distinctive voices to choose from for personalization and the language options are also 10.

Gemini AI on iOS

Some Image Generation…Of course

As an AI tool, iPhone users can generate images on Gemini which is powered by Imagen 3, the highest-quality image generation model. So, you can just enter your desired prompt and Gemini will do the job. I tried this “Monkey riding a tempo in the streets of Kathmandu” and here’s what I have got.

Gemini App on iOS Image Generation

What about some studies?

AI Chatbots are pretty handy when it comes to doing some study. Gemini on iPhone also provides tailored study plans, step-by-step guidance, and some quizzes as well. So, basically, you are free to ask questions on any subject and get your answer. As simple as that!

Seamless connection with Google Apps

Moving on, the app also provides quick access to all your favorite Google apps such as Google Search, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Drive, and so on. Can we call this a sneaky way to get those iPhone users to get used to Google Apps? More likely, yes.

Gemini for iPhone: Conclusion

So, this is just the beginning of the Gemini app on iOS. And one sure thing is that it is very very unlikely to replace Siri as your personal assistant on iPhone. Because, like every other AI assistant on iOS, Gemini cannot tweak the settings or control apps.

HP Victus 16 (2024) with RTX 4070 is now available in Nepal for a sweet price!

0

HP’s Victus lineup has always been a fan favorite when it comes to getting a proper gaming laptop on a budget. And while the Victus 15 is ever dominating in the sub 150,000 NPR market in Nepal, the Victus 16: its beefier brother had been missing. That’s not the case anymore and now you can get the big bro Victus 16 from HP in Nepal that too for a sweet sweet price. In this short piece, we’ll briefly touch on the different aspects of the HP Victus 16 (2024) gaming laptop, its specs and features, and finally the pricing and availability.

HP Victus 16 (2024) Overview

Design and Display

Starting off with the Victus DNA, the 16-inch gaming laptop is made entirely out of plastic but features a sturdier build than its 15-inch sibling. It also has larger dimensions, weighs a bit extra, and has an improved thermal design, which we’ll talk about in the performance section. The ports are still located on the left and right sides, with the back completely left for ventilation.

HP Victus 16 2024 Dimensions

On the front, the large 16.1-inch screen is suitable for gaming, although the resolution is limited to Full HD and the refresh rate to 144Hz on the sole Nepalese variant. The brightness also maxes out at just 300 nits. But, HP says the response time is less than 10ms, and the panel can display 100% of the standard sRGB colors, which is nice to see. We do hope that higher-end variants with brighter and faster panels also make their way here in the future.

Performance and Memory

Powering the Victus 16 is a Zen 4-based Ryzen 7 8845HS that can clock up to an impressive 5.1GHz. It’s your standard 8-core 16-thread configuration fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process. So, expect good efficiency on top of great overall CPU performance. The integrated Radeon 780M graphics is quite capable on its own but the star of the show is definitely NVIDIA’s RTX 4070.

HP Victus 16 2024 Design

The GeForce RTX 4070 in the HP Victus 16 (2024) can go up to plenty 120W, although we have found most laptop 4070 GPUs to cap around 100W while gaming. To cool this, there are dual fans on either side of the laptop, heat pipes over the CPU and GPU, and thermal paste on the processors. For memory, this variant ships with 16GB of DDR5 memory in a dual-channel configuration. The 8GB sticks can be user-replaced with higher-capacity ones for further expansion. Similarly, the 500GB NVME drive can be replaced with a higher capacity M.2 2280/2242 SSD. It’s unclear whether this exact variant has an extra M.2 slot or not but the Victus 16 generally has an extra slot over the smaller 15.

Ports and Battery

The port situation could be a little sweeter as well. The Type-C port on the Victus 16 is just a 5Gbps port (with PD and DP support) and not the faster USB-4 standard. The three USB-A ports are also the same USB 3.2 Gen 1 based while the HDMI is version 2.1. There’s also an RJ45 slot, 3.5mm jack, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3.

Fueling it all is a decently sized 70Wh cell powered by a 230W AC adapter.

HP Victus 16 2024 (s1023) Specifications:

  • Display: 16.1-inch IPS LCD, 144Hz refresh rate, Anti-glare, 300 nits, 100% sRGB
  • Resolution: FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • Keyboard: Full-size keyboard with NumPad

Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) Price in Nepal [Updated]

0

14th-generation laptops have been slowly rolling to Nepal in the last month or so. Notably the new Zenbook 14 with its Core Ultra 7 chipset and just recently the ROG Strix G16 and G18 gaming laptops with their Raptor Lake refresh CPUs. We also expect the 2024 Predator lineup from Acer to make its way to Nepal soon. But wanna know what’s already here ? – the new Lenovo LOQ 15 and 16. In this article, let’s take a look at the Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024), its design, specifications, price in Nepal, and availability.

Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) Overview

Design and Display

We don’t see much departure in the looks department. The new LOQ 15 features a plastic chassis with a decent build like its predecessor (LOQ 15 2023 Review). It weighs about 2.4 kg and is available in Luna Grey color option.

Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) display

The display panel is a 15.6 inch IPS LCD of Full HD res and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It does have good enough colors at 100% sRGB coverage and features a matte coating. And since it’s a gaming laptop, you do get a fast 144Hz refresh rate with G-Sync support. Do note that not all models have identical screens, so double-check your specs before the purchase.

Performance and Memory

The LOQ 2024 can be configured with both 13th and 14th-generation Intel Core processors as well as Ryzen chips. But the highlight is on the new 14700HX.

The Core i7-14700HX in the LOQ 15 is a 20-core, 28-thread chip that has extra efficiency cores (12 > 8), and higher clock speeds than its predecessor (5.5 GHz max clock vs 5.0 GHz) which should bring a performance boost in both single-threaded as well as max load workflows. The 14700HX is a Raptor Lake refresh CPU and is not based on the new Meteor Lake architecture with an Intel 4 process node. But since efficiency, and a better iGPU aren’t the top priorities when it comes to a gaming laptop, the Raptor Lake i7 is a fine choice for the LOQ 15 (2024). Oh! and you have Lenovo’s AI chip (LA1 in this model) for an even better gaming experience and dual fans for cooling.

Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) cooling

Currently, you can purchase the Lenovo LOQ 15 (2024) with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU with 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and a 115W TGP in Nepal. As other configurations make their way, we’ll keep updating the article. The laptop comes with 16GB of fast DDR5 (5600MHz) RAM with an extra slot for future upgrades. On the SSD side, you get a 1TB Gen 4 model with an additional M.2 slot.

Battery and Extras

Under the hood, there’s a decent 60Wh battery and you get a 230W Slim Tip charger in the box that refills the machine in just about an hour. On the ports side, you get three USB-A’s, one type C, an HDMI, a headphone jack, and an ethernet port. The USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port also supports 140W charging.

Lenovo LOQ 15 2024 edition (ports)

Wireless connectivity options include dual-band WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. There’s an E-shutter over the 720p webcam and the keyboard features 4-Zone RGB lighting as well.

  • Dimensions: 14.16 (W) x 10.43 (D) x 0.87 – 0.99 (H) inches, 2.4 kg

Xbox is a widely popular gaming console and a handheld version is in the news as per Microsoft’s Gaming Boss Phil Spencer. In this piece of news, we’ll walk through the expected features, specifications, and other info regarding the Xbox Handheld console.

Xbox Handheld Console Overview

Interview with Bloomberg

The news about an Xbox handheld console sprouted up from an interview of Phil Spencer with Bloomberg. He has mentioned Microsoft developing such a console but the final version will take a few more years. The California-based tech giant is already working on prototypes and seeking more visions for now as per Spencer.

He said, “Longer term, I love us building devices.” “And I think our team could do some real innovative work, but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now.”, he added.

Local games might be the priority

Spencer was asked if the upcoming handheld console would support a dedicated platform with local games like on a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. And he answered, “I think being able to play games locally is really important.” So, that points out, that we might be able to play locally available games without having to connect to the internet.

Infinix Zero Flip review: Are cheap foldables really worth it?

0

Flip phones are by far my favourite genre of smartphones, even as a child I loved using them — the keypad ones, of course. And today I have this, the Infinix Zero Flip, which is the cheapest flip phone out in the market right now. It starts at just INR 49,999 or some USD 600, which is like 80% cheaper than my Z Flip6 (review). Before diving into the review of the Infinix Zero Flip, let’s briefly go through the specs:

Infinix Zero Flip Review

Design and Build

Right after unboxing and using it for a couple of hours, I am instantly impressed by how Infinix has done a very good job on the design. The rounded corners and the soft satin back feel nice to hold in my hands.

And for the price, the build quality is pretty good too — you get a glass back and a cover screen which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and the frames here are aluminium. It’s slightly heavier than the Samsung Z Flip6, because of the larger battery it has, but it’s not uncomfortable to hold at all, so that’s not a problem.

But what about the hinge?

Infinix says that this phone has been tested to withstand 400,000 folds which means on average, even if you fold and unfold this phone around 200 times every day, you are good for 4 to 5 years. And yes, this is more than what Samsung claims with the Z Flip6.

Infinix Flip Zero Hinge

However, what Samsung nails is the sturdiness of the hinge. It just feels more rigid and robust and even after all this time, it hasn’t loosened at all. On the other hand, the Zero Flip’s hinge isn’t as sturdy. I have noticed a little creaking sound every time I open and close it and it makes me lose some sleep.

Display

Anyway, Infinix says it has the biggest cover screen in this price segment and technically it does, if you consider the size. But, usability-wise, the right-hand portion is actually reserved for notifications, so you only get a limited screen space for actual app usage.

Infinix Flip Zero Outer Display

The good thing is that you can use almost all the apps from the cover screen itself which is something you still cannot do on the Samsung. I mostly find myself using Google Maps, scrolling through Instagram, or playing light games — which is quite convenient here. For the sake of this review, I also checked if you could play PUBG on the outer screen of Infinix Zero Flip like on the Moto Razr — but unfortunately — you cannot do that.

This cover screen is quite bright too, not as bright as Samsung’s, but visibility has never been a problem for me on this phone, so I won’t complain.

The main screen

Unfolding the phone takes you to a large 6.9-inch display and let me tell you, Infinix has somehow managed to make the crease a little less visible and slightly less intrusive to touch than Samsung. And, this is their first flip phone, so Samsung really needs to step up their game!

Infinix Flip Zero Display

The actual quality of this screen is nice too with punchy colour reproduction and sufficient brightness at least in indoor conditions. During sunny outdoor situations, let’s just say it’s not the brightest.

This is also an LTPO screen, so it can go from 10-120 Hz to save battery. There are not a lot of instances when the phone reaches 10Hz, mostly it hovers around 60, 90 and 120Hz! Other than that, this screen is good for watching content, scrolling through social media apps and all that.

User Experience

There’s one thing that I hope Infinix can improve in its screen/software department, which is app continuity. So, when you are using any app on the cover screen and you unfold the device, it takes a second for the phone to process that, whereas, on the Galaxy Z Flip6, that’s not a problem!

The stereo speakers here are quite nice though. It can get a little shouty at 90- 100% volume, but keeping it around 70-80%, they sound quite nice.

But I can’t say the same about the haptics as it feels a little buzzy and not as crisp when typing or while navigating through the phone. Infinix should have offered a better vibration motor here!

Software

Talking about cutting corners, Infinix has only promised 2 years of OS updates with the Zero Flip. Currently, it’s running on Android 14, so the maximum update you will get on this phone is only till Android 16.

Although, I am happy that Infinix has improved the XOS skin quite well in the last few years. First of all, there are little to no bloatware apps here and the overall system animation is quite swift.

Performance

We get the Dimensity 8020 chip with 8GB RAM, which is much better than the Dimensity 7300 on the Moto Razr 50. If I have to explain, the Dimensity 8020 performs somewhat similar to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, which means normally, the phone can handle everyday tasks and a little bit of multitasking pretty well.

Infinix Zero Flip Gaming

Its gaming capabilities are quite average though. The max you can play is games like PUBG at 55-60 fps with good enough stability, but the phone cannot handle games like Genshin Impact in high settings very well. Also, as with most flip phones, this one also heats up pretty badly while playing games for a longer duration.

Camera

Okay, let’s talk about the cameras now! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting the camera on this phone to be good, but Infinix has actually surprised me. I would go as far as to say that the cameras on the Infinix Zero Flip are better than the Moto Razr 50.

On the back, you get dual 50MP sensors, a primary and an ultrawide unit and on the front, there is a 50MP camera as well.

Primary

And even comparing it against the more expensive Galaxy Z Flip6, I am happy to report that Infinix puts up quite the competition in the photography aspect.

The Infinix Zero Flip brings out sharp, detailed images with punchy colours. The flower or foliage images look especially good, they are very striking. After taking about 100 photos or so, the only thing I feel Infinix needs to improve on is:

  1. Maintaining the white balance consistently and,
  2. The dynamic range takes quite a hit in challenging conditions from the Infinix Zero Flip.

Besides that, for general usage, the primary camera is quite good I would say.

Ultrawide

Even the ultrawide images are not bad and surprisingly there is very little color shift between the primary and the ultrawide lens, which is impressive. Even Samsung cannot do that sometimes, so I am happy with the results on this phone.

Night Mode

And I don’t know how but during night-time, the ultrawide images are actually cleaner and noise-free from Infinix in comparison to the Samsung.

Normal night-time photos also have very similar detail levels from both phones, but in the night mode, Infinix tends to overdo things a little. And because of its weaker chipset, It also takes slightly more time to process night mode images than Samsung.

Portrait

The only thing Infinix cannot handle well is human subjects. It tries to pull out a lot of texture on the subject’s face. Likewise, the skin tone and the shadow processing are a little off. Samsung does a much better job when it comes to clicking human pictures.

Selfies

Even the selfies, be it from the front or the rear cameras have better skin tone and exposure handling than what I am getting with Infinix.

Videos and Extra

When it comes to videos, the Infinix Zero flip lets you shoot at up to 4k 30 fps from the rear camera and up to 4k 60 fps from the front. Infinix also provides some fun in-built filters for videos which my team had a lot of fun shooting with.

The actual quality of the videos is nothing to write home about though. The videos are sharp, but the smoothness and stabilisation in movement are kind of missing here.

Additionally, you also get a couple of AI features like object eraser, sketch to image, etc here too. It’s nothing new, so let’s skip this and talk about the battery life.

Battery

Here, we get a big 4720mAh battery and its battery life is decent enough, for a flip phone. On a full charge, the phone would last me until 7 to 8 PM before I had to plug it in again.

However, I wouldn’t say I got better battery life here in comparison to the Z Flip6. During the review process, of the Infinix Zero Flip, I found the battery optimisation to be not as aggressive. I faced around 3 to 4% battery drain while the phone was kept idle too.

Infinix Flip Zero Charging

Charging the phone is pretty fast though. You get a 70-watt charger included inside the box, which you can take the phone from 0–100 in less than an hour.

Infinix Zero Flip Review: Conclusion

So, overall if you ask me how my experience using a cheap flip phone was, I would say — not bad! To match the price point, Infinix has definitely made compromises. Like there’s no IP rating, you are getting a pretty average processor, an inferior videography department, and the software commitment is kinda weak. But the phone is available for a much more affordable price too.

So, if you are someone who is fascinated by flip phones and their form factor. But don’t want to spend a hefty price, it’s actually not a bad idea to get the Infinix Zero Flip. This phone actually nails all the basics. Like a nice sturdy design, good display, reliable cameras and battery life, and the software is also optimised for the flip form factor.

Infinix Zero Flip: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Nice sturdy design
  • The display is good
  • Cameras and battery life are reliable
  • Optimised software

Cons

  • No IP rating
  • Average processor
  • Weak videography
  • Only two OS updates

Vivo Y19s review: Is it a worthy offering under 20K?

0

Vivo Nepal is on the spree of doing back-to-back launches. And we have a new budget midrange phone from Vivo popping up in the sub-20K segment. It features a Unisoc T612 SoC, a hole-punch cutout screen, and a good-looking design. I have been using this phone for a week already, and I’ll be sharing everything I have witnessed and found about it in my Vivo Y19s review. But before heading to the review, let’s take a look at the specifications of the Vivo Y19s, shall we?

Vivo Y19s Review

Beautiful Design with a Durable Punch

I think I don’t really need to speak about the design of a Vivo phone. It has always been quite an emphasized part when it comes to a smartphone from Vivo. And the Vivo Y19s stands as no exception and continues providing a good-looking design for the price. I have this Diamond Black shade but I bet, the Pearl Silver option would look even more beautiful. Anyways, what’s even better is the MIL-810H standard and SGS 5-Star Drop resistance. which takes care of the durability aspect. Plus, the four corners of the phones are said to be shock-absorbing.

So, despite boasting an all-plastic build, the Y19s should be able to take some drops from a minor height, without any sort of damage. I haven’t tried dropping this guy tho’ but as per the claims, it should be strong enough! On top of that the IP64 rating is there for worry-free dust and water resistance. Durability and Design-wise, this guy deserves a solid 4.8/5 rating.

Display

Getting to the display side, the Vivo Y19s features a 6.68-inch IPS LCD panel with an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. I can’t really expect an AMOLED display in this price range. For your information, the Vivo Y28 which starts at NPR 23,999 (8/128GB) even ships with the same 90Hz HD+ 6.68-inch IPS LCD panel. So, it is not the norm with Vivo phones, I guess. But, Vivo deserves some praise for bringing a modern hole-punch panel for a sub 20K phone.

Vivo Y19s Multimedia Usage

Anyways, the display works well for the price, I won’t lie. The visuals are decent enough for your reels and Tiktok scrolling needs. You just need to select the 90Hz-only option and voila! you get a 90Hz refresh rate experience across the system and social media apps. Otherwise, the default option will set it back and forth between 60 and 90Hz, which is good for saving some battery juice. So, the choice is all yours!

Unisoc T612 SoC

Running the things from the core is a 12nm Unisoc T612 processor with two Cortex-A75 cores at 1.8GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz. Well, I had some mixed feelings seeing, a Unisoc chip at NPR 18,499. Vivo could have gone for a MediaTek Helio G91 SoC instead, like what Redmi 13 did. But once again, the aforementioned Vivo Y28 boasts a Helio G85 SoC, and again, I have to accept this norm!

Talking of the day to day usage, the Unisoc T612 caters decently to those moderate users, who don’t need fast performance. With 6 gigs of RAM on board, multitasking is fine but, you’ll notice slight lags here and there while switching apps. After all, the sub-20K segment obviously suits a basic user, without a doubt. Funtouch OS 14 is what you get over here, and it works fine with some customization options. Thankfully, there are no ads here but a few uninstallable bloatware is present though! Talking of some gaming, you can do some casual PUBG gaming at up to 40fps. But do not expect smooth gameplay as the chip is not that powerful.

Vivo Y19s PUBG Gameplay

And this phone has one peculiar feature which is rare for a budget midrange phone. On the rear side, you get an Aura light-like thing that doesn’t work for cameras but lights up for notifications and phone calls. And it does look cool, Not Gonna Lie!

Vivo Y19s Aura Light Notifications

Camera

Now, let’s talk about the optics. You get a dual camera setup here with a 50MP primary sensor and a useless 0.08MP depth sensor. In contrast, the selfie camera is a 5MP unit. And here’s what I have found.

Daylight

The main camera can click decent-looking images when the sun is up. Although, I really wish the outputs were a bit more punchier for my liking.

Portraits

The portrait samples are good-looking while the edge detection and dynamic range are a bit on the wee side. But it’s understandable for a phone of this caliber.

Selfie

The 5MP selfie camera is what you get here. If you happen to take a snap and take a look at the phone’s screen, the selfies might look a bit underwhelming. While it looks fine on a laptop screen. Either way, the 5MP resolution doesn’t retain many details.

Lowlight

When the sun goes down, the Y19s takes below-average photos via the normal mode. Thankfully, there is a dedicated night mode that controls overall exposure and provides you with usable samples.

Videos

And as with every other budget midrange phone, you have to settle with 1080p 30fps resolution on both front and back cameras with no EIS.  I’d say, it goes just fine for casual usage.

Battery and Charging

Moving on, the Vivo Y19s gets its fuel from a 5150mAh battery. But for some reason, the global version packs a bigger 5500mAh cell. Anyways, the Y19s can last you for a day easily on moderate usage. To top it up, you get a 15W charger in the box that takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes. Here, I wish the charging speed was quicker.

Vivo Y19s Review: Conclusion

Okay so, coming to the conclusion, the Vivo Y19s stands as a decent choice for the sub 20K segment, if not the best! The design and build deserve praise with a solid MIL-STD-810H standard and SGS 5-Star Drop resistance. Likewise, the display is also on the decent side with a 90Hz refresh rate while the 50MP main camera is also fine for the price! But I really wished for a higher-resolution front camera and a bit more powerful chip like Helio G91 Ultra!

Amazon launches Haul with all products under USD 20!

0

Well, well, in the Western world, the likes of Temu and Shein have been wreaking havoc in the e-commerce landscape. They offer trendy products at an affordable price tag. This was hurting the market dominance of Amazon and now the multi-trillion dollar company is finally clapping back. Enter — Amazon Haul!

Amazon Haul Overview

Low prices

The main point of Haul is to maintain Amazon’s dominance in the e-commerce platform. It tried to fight back by offering more discounts, improving delivery speeds, and even putting up something like Amazon Prime Wardrobe and Amazon Fashion to keep up with the fashion trends. However, it did not reap the benefits as intended.

Amazon Haul App

And in a classic “If you can’t beat them, join them” move, Amazon unveiled Haul, which will offer the same thing as the likes of Temu and Shein. All the items here are under the USD 20 mark — most of which are USD 10 or even lower.

Shipping and Safety

Meanwhile, the shipping of Amazon Haul products takes a week or two and is free for orders totalling over USD 25. If you do not hit that mark, it will cost you USD 3.99 to get your stuff delivered. Likewise, there are discounts too — 5% off on purchases over USD 50, and 10% off on orders over USD 75. Lastly, the returning items over USD 3 in value are absolutely free within 15 days.

The e-commerce giant has not forgotten to ensure cheap products adhere to applicable regulations. Amazon says it screens all the products Haul sellers are offering and they are safe and authentic. Additionally, the company promises to innovate further to improve the shopping experience.

Amazon Haul Launch and Availability

This affordable branch of the company was announced on 13 November 2024 and is already live. However, it is only accessible to US-based users. Furthermore, it is only accessible via a smartphone — either through the app or by visiting the Haul website on the mobile browser.
