Garmin updates their Tactix 7 Series with an AMOLED screen variant!

0

Garmin, launched a new addition to their Tactix 7 series smartwatches with the Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition. Let’s discuss further the Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition, including its specifications, features, price in Nepal, and more!

Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition Overview

Design and Display

The entire lineup of Garmin Tactix 7 takes a very tactical and rugged design approach, and the AMOLED edition does not deviate from that either. This approach extends further into choices of material as well. The watch features extremely scratch-resistant sapphire crystal for lens material. Similarly, the watch bezels and rear cover are made out of Titanium, whereas the case material is a fibre-reinforced polymer. It measures 51 mm x 51 mm x 16.40 mm and weighs 96 grams.

Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition Design

As the name suggests, this edition features an AMOLED screen instead of a MIP display. A MIP display prioritises power efficiency at the cost of vibrant colours. The screen is the main differentiating factor from the rest of the offerings. It is 1.4 inches in diameter with a resolution of 454 x 454 and has the AOD feature. The resolution of the AMLOED edition is almost double in comparison to the standard variant. The Garmin Tactix 7 offers 10 ATM water resistance and meets the US MIL-STD-810 military standard. It is available with a black silicone watch band by default.

Performance and features

The information on what’s under the hood is only limited to that the watch offers a 32 GB memory. But, on the other hand, the watch offers features straight out of James Bond movies. The niche features it offers are highly useful to military personnel and aviators. Some examples of these features are night vision capabilities, stealth mode, jumpmaster mode, navigation with access to the worldwide aeronautical database, and aviation weather access. Furthermore, you can even access apps like AB Synapse and features like Outdoor Maps+ from Garmin themselves. It provides you with aiming solutions for long-range shooting and premium mapping content respectively.

Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition Features

The Tactix 7 also offers features like a built-in LED flashlight (white/green), 30+ built-in sports modes, daily workout suggestions, a real-time stamina manager, recovery time advisor, jet lag advisor, smart notifications, Garmin contactless payments, red shift mode, and so on. The watch is not limited to the features I’ve listed either. There are even more features for you to utilise and enjoy.

Battery and the rest

The Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED edition offers up to 31 days of battery backup on regular use. The number, however, drops to 11 days of usage with AOD turned on. It offers a minimum of 17 hours with continuous music playback plus all satellite systems turned on. On the other hand, it offers a maximum of 41 days of battery life with the “battery saver watch mode” turned on. It uses the Garmin proprietary plug charger as the charging method.

This thing comes loaded with sensors, which include GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, Multi-frequency positioning, SATIQ Technology, wrist heart rate monitor, and pulse ox blood oxygen saturation monitor. Furthermore, it also includes a Barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, thermometer, and ambient light sensor. It also offers connectivity via Bluetooth, ANT+, and WiFi. It pairs with the Garmin Connect mobile app available on both Android and iOS. Lastly, it is also compatible with other Garmin devices such as handheld navigation systems, sensors, bike lights, etc.

Honor X40 GT receives a “Racing Edition” with a new design

0

Honor’s gaming phone from last year, the X40 GT, has received a “Racing Edition” in China. This Snapdragon 888-powered handset features the same 144Hz screen and 50MP triple camera array. And the only update here is in terms of the design. Here, we will look through the specifications, features, availability, and expected price of the Honor X40 GT and the racing edition in Nepal.

Honor X40 GT Overview:

Design, Display

The design of the X40 GT is strikingly similar to that of the Honor Magic 4 Lite. It has a big circular camera bump in the middle with “GT” branding plastered in the center. Honor offers the smartphone in three color options: Magic Night Black, Titanium Silver, and Racing Black. Similarly, the Racing Edition also comes in three colors: Racing Black, Racing Silver, and Fantasy Black.

While the Night Black and Titanium Silver have a minimal design, the Racing Black goes for an aggressive gamer look with its carbon fiber finish, racing stripe, and green accents. Similarly, it also features a unique comet-like pattern on the back.

Up front, the Honor X40 GT sports a 6.81-inch FHD+ IPS panel. While the screen is not AMOLED, the 144Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate are its saving grace. Unfortunately, the Racing Edition doesn’t bring any upgrade in the display department.

Performance

The phone packs a dated but still capable Snapdragon 888 chipset, based on a 5nm process. Released in 2020, it was Qualcomm’s flagship chip for that year. In terms of CPU, Cortex-X1 clocked at 2.84 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores at 2.42 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.80 GHz.

Honor has fitted the phone with a 13-layer cooling solution that it claims can reduce the X40 GT’s surface temperature by 1°C.

As for memory, the Honor X40 GT is available with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The software side of things is handled by Honor’s MagicUI 6.1 which is based on Android 12. The racing edition gets LPDDR5 12 GB RAM and comes in an extra 512GB UFS 3.1 storage option. On the software end, the Racing Edition receives the newer Magic UI 7.1 but stays on the same OS i.e. Android 12.

Cameras

Getting into the cameras, the Honor X40 GT comes with a triple rear camera system. Here, the primary 50MP sensor is supported by a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, there is a single 16MP camera housed inside a hole-punch notch.

Rest of the specs

Honor X40 GT draws power from a 4800mAh battery with 66W fast charging. According to the company, it can fully charge in around 30 minutes. Surprisingly, it does not have dual speakers despite being a gaming phone. For security, it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Honor X40 GT Specifications:

  • Display: 6.81″ FHD+, IPS LCD panel, 144Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate
  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G (5nm)
  • Rear Cameras: Triple (50MP primary + 2MP macro + 2MP depth)
  • Selfie: 16MP (hole-punch cutout)
  • Memory: Up to 12GB RAM, 256GB storage (Up to 512 GB in Racing Edition)
  • Battery: 4800mAh, 66W charging
  • OS: MagicUI 6.1 on Android 12 (MagicUI 7.1 on top of Android 12 in Racing Edition)
  • Biometrics: Side-mounted fingerprint sensor

Honor X40 GT Price in Nepal and Availability

In China, Honor X40 GT starts at CNY 2,099 for its base 8/256GB model, while the Racing Edition goes for CNY 1,799 for the 12/256GB configuration. We expect the Honor X40 GT price in Nepal to be around NPR 39,700 if and when it launches here.

Itel unveils S23+, a flagship-like experience in budget pricing!

1

Itel, a Chinese phone manufacturer company that primarily offers budget phones, has unveiled its latest offering— “S23+”. The Itel S23+ looks very interesting on paper, which we will further discuss in this article including its specs, availability, price in Nepal, and so on.

Itel S23+ Overview:

Design and Display

Itel S23+ is a rounded rectangular phone with curved edges. Additionally,  the design of the phone is very sleek, slim, and premium-looking. The entire dimensions of the phone are unavailable as of now. However, the phone has a mere 7.9 mm thickness and weighs 178 grams. The phone features a squircle camera island on the upper corner of its back.

The camera island features three camera cutouts along with a text reading “Ultra Matrix Lens”. The phone also has a random “Super” written on the lower half of the phone for some reason. It is available in two colour options: a vibrant “Lake Cyan” and a glittery “Elemental Blue”.

Itel S23+ Design

Up on the front, we get a sizeable 6.78-inch curved AMOLED screen, which is easily the main highlight of the Itel S23+. The phone has minimal bezels and features a centre-aligned hole-punch camera cutout. Talking of the screen, it is an FHD+ display capable of 1080 x 2400 resolution, 500 nits of peak brightness, 400,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Performance

The Itel S23+ relies on the Unisoc Tiger T616 chipset, which is an octa-core SoC manufactured with a 12 nm process. This chipset should provide you with an okay performance. We are getting RAM of up to 8 GB and storage of up to 256 GB, coupled with the SoC. It also comes with “Dynamic RAM Expansion technology”, which allows the phone to virtually extend its RAM capabilities, equal to that of its physical RAM.

Itel S23+ Atom Storage

On the software end, the phone runs on itelOS13 based on Android 13. It also provides fragmented data detection and organization features with its “Atom Storage Technology”. This technology apparently, keeps the read and write speed of the phone from degrading rapidly. As a result, Itel claims that it helps the phone retain 97% of its speed, even after four years of use.

Camera

The phone features three cameras altogether, a dual-camera setup on the back and a single camera up front. On the rear, the three camera cutouts consist of a 50 MP primary sensor, a secondary unit, and an LED flash. Itel has opted to remain silent regarding the secondary camera unit but we assume it serves as a depth sensor.

However, the primary sensor offers a maximum aperture of f/1.6 along with features like 10X Zoom, super night mode, eye tracking mode, and Portrait Lite. Whereas on the front, we get a 32 MP sensor.

Battery and other features

Powering the phone is a massive 5,000 mAh cell that takes 2 hours to fill up with 18W Type-C fast charging. It also has an AI Power Master for intelligent battery management. Likewise, this device also comes with a GPT AI Assistant that you can trigger by saying “Hi Aivana”.

Itel S23+ Dynamic Bar

Furthermore, the Itel S23+ offers a “Dynamic Bar” feature, which as the name suggests, is in fact, a knockoff of Apple’s Dynamic Island. This Dynamic Bar shows you notifications like battery status, incoming calls, reminders, phone unlock status, etc. Both the “GPT AI Assistant” and “Dynamic Bar” features will be made available through a software update. Lastly, the company is offering an extended 36-month warranty as well as 6-month screen replacement services along with the phone in certain regions.

Itel S23+ Specifications:

  • Display: 6.78-inch curved AMOLED panel, 500 nits peak brightness, 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut, 400,000:1 contrast ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 5
  • Resolution: FHD+ (1080  x 2400) resolution
  • Chipset: Octa-core Unisoc Tiger T616 (12nm)
  • RAM: 4GB / 8GB LPDDR4x + 4GB / 8GB extendable virtual RAM
  • ROM: 128GB / 256GB UFS 2.0
  • OS & UI: ItelOS 13 based on Android 13
  • Rear Camera: Dual Camera (50 MP Primary + Depth Sensor)

New Nepalese Accessories brand-JOSH-launches two TWS earbuds

1

A new Nepalese accessories brand JOSH Lifestyle is in the town with two TWS earbuds: Spacebuds GLIDE ANC and Spacebuds GLIDE Max. In this article, let’s take a look at the features, specifications, and official price of the JOSH Lifestyle earbuds in Nepal.

Josh Spacebuds GLIDE ANC and MAX Overview

Design and Build

Both Spacebuds GLIDE ANC and MAX share a pretty similar design. They are in-ear buds with a silicon tip for a perfect seal. Although the overall look is nothing out of the ordinary, the brand has tried to differentiate itself with a ‘chrome metallic’ finish on the stem of the GLIDE ANC. According to Josh, “These earbuds are not just a listening device, but a fashion statement as well.”

JOSH Spacebuds max and glide anc
Left: Spacebuds MAX | Right: Spacebuds GLIDE ANC

In terms of ingress protection, both buds have IPX4 sweat and splash resistance.

Sound

Moving onto the sound, the Josh Spacebuds MAX is equipped with large 13mm drivers while the Spacebuds GLIDE features 10mm ones. Both earbuds have 4 mics that help with ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) to deliver crisp and clear calls. However, ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) is reserved for the higher-end Spacebuds GLIDE. The GLIDE also features a transparency mode for hearing your surroundings while in use. The brand doesn’t mention any specifics about the strength of the ANC but since we’re talking about a set of budget earbuds, it may not be the most impressive.

JOSH Spacebuds max and glide anc features

And if you’re a casual gamer, the latency on these is also not too bad. The Spacebuds GLIDE ANC is listed to have a latency of 60ms while the Spacebuds MAX “reduces latency and keeps audio and video in sync”.

Battery and Extras

As for the battery life, both Josh Spacebuds impress with 40 (Superbuds MAX) and 50 (Superbuds GLIDE ANC) hours of playback on a single charge. And they fill up quickly too. A quick 5-minute charge will give you an hour of playtime on the Spacebuds MAX while a 10-minute charge will extend your music marathon by an additional 150 minutes on the Josh Spacebuds GLIDE ANC.

Both buds are equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and support Fast Pair for seamless connectivity.

Honor V Purse launched: Fashion or Tech?

Honor had unveiled its “V Purse” foldable at IFA 2023 and let’s just say it was a..bit unusual. The V Purse is a foldable meant to be carried like a purse and as unlikely as we thought it was, the Purse foldable is actually available for purchase (at least in China). In this article, let’s talk about the design, features, specifications, and expected price in Nepal of the Honor V Purse.

Honor V Purse Overview

Contrary to the foldables in the market, V Purse is a foldable with screen(s) on the outside. The device can be attached with several types of straps and chains and carried like a purse. The Always On Display (AOD) displays different designs and illustrations.

Design and Display

Despite being a foldable, the Honor V Purse is quite slim and light. At 8.6mm thick and 214 grams, it is thinner than something like the Galaxy S23 Ultra (8.9mm) and lighter than the iPhone 15 Pro Max (221 grams). According to Honor, the V Purse is a “phy-digital fashion statement”. The straps and chains that attach to the device (physical elements) are complemented by matching digital illustrations (AOD).

As for the display itself, it’s a 7.71-inch OLED panel of 2,348×2,016 resolution with a 10:5:9 aspect ratio. When folded, that shrinks to 6.45 inches with a taller 19:4:9 aspect ratio. It’s a top-tier 90Hz screen with full DCI-P3 coverage, 1,600 nits peak brightness, and 2,160Hz PWM dimming.

Performance

Under the hood, Snapdragon 778G SOC powers the Purse foldable. It’s an octa-core processor with 4 Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and 4 Cortex A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. Complementing the CPU cores is Adreno 642L graphics.

The Honor V Purse ships with 16GB of RAM alongside 256/512 GB of storage. It boots on Android 13 out of the box with Honor’s MagicOS 7.2 on top.

Cameras and Battery

Moving on to the cameras, you’ll find a total of three spread across the device. The rear features a 50MP primary shooter alongside a 12MP ultrawide lens and a flash. On the front, there’s an 8MP selfie cam housed in the hole-punch.

Honor V Purse camera

In the tank, the Honor V Purse packs in a  respectable 4,500mAh battery. It supports up to 35W fast charging via the USB-C port.

Extras

For the AOD designs, the Chinese manufacturer partnered with top creative talents including Burberry design director Bram Van Diepen, contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza,  CAA’s Yuan Youmin, and artist Xiao Hui Wang. It’ll also be opening the API interface to designers globally, allowing them to create custom wallpapers for the V Purse. Developers can make use of the light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and other sensors, to create illustrations that react to touch and motion.

Honor has built the V Purse with sustainability in mind. It prompts a fashion practice that can be presented with a unique flair every time. As such, this can be a great alternative to fast-fashion consumption.

Honor V Purse Specifications:

  • Body: 214 grams
