Use FonePay in India with Cross Border QR Payment!

    1

Fonepay, Nepal’s first mobile payment network or Payment System Operator (PSO), has partnered with India’s NIPL to launch a historic “Cross Border QR Payment” service. In this article, we will be discussing various aspects regarding FonePay in India, its implications, and much more.

    Fonepay in India Overview

    Cross Border QR Payment

Fonepay and NCPI have announced “Cross Border QR Payment” at the Global Fintech Fest 2023. The announcement was made in the presence of fintech visionaries, thought leaders, and innovators from all around the world. It was also announced that both the companies have completed operational preparations. Furthermore, the technological integration is in the final process.

After completion of this, the companies can then operate their services on the ground level. Meaning, that paying through Fonepay in India will be possible for us Nepali. On the other hand, Nepali vendors can receive payments through their Fonepay QR from Indians as well.

    Fonepay in India announcement

The companies are hoping to provide a considerable boost to the digital payments ecosystem. Along with that, they are hoping that the collaboration will prove to be a major stepping stone for widening their reach in the international market. The spokespersons of both companies are hopeful in nurturing the relationship between the two countries through this partnership. Furthermore, they are hoping this collaboration will be helpful in the financial and economic growth of both countries as well.

    Fonepay

We hear phrases like “Fonepay gardey na!” or “Fonepay chha hai?” all around us. At this point, Fonepay has become synonymous with cashless transactions in Nepal. This is because Fonepay has been providing fast, secure, and reliable digital payment services to its customers by partnering with a large number of banks and digital wallets.

Fonepay has allowed us Nepali folks to enjoy making easy online payments. Furthermore, they have helped us limit our compulsion to visit banks for tiny amounts of fund transfers. On top of that, we can even make payments for government services through Fonepay. We can attribute the F1 Soft Group subsidiary as the most active contributor to a cashless Nepali economy. Thanks to Fonepay, making easy payments in India will soon be possible as well.

    Cross Border QR payment

    NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL)

On the other hand, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is responsible for developing and deploying a real-time payment system and successful card scheme in the form of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay respectively. With the help of these products, NPCI was successful in transforming the payment segment in India.

After having proven its technological capabilities in the domestic market, NPCI decided to expand its wings to the international market. As a result, NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) came to life. NIPL offers technological assistance via licensing and consulting to other countries. They assist in establishing a similar product to their own in the said countries.

    Implications of Fonepay in India

The fact that the relationship between Nepal and India runs very deep is undeniable. As a result, the two countries have adopted an open border system, allowing easy movement between the two countries. This has resulted in individuals travelling between the countries for employment, tourism, business, and more.

Despite such ease, the monetary aspects of the travel have been somewhat difficult. Exchanging currency has been a huge hassle for travelling individuals. Thanks to Fonepay in India, the hassle of exchanging currencies might be gone altogether. However, this will heavily depend on various aspects such as service charges for the feature, and applicable taxes. Regardless, this collaboration is sure to ease the process of making payments and sending of funds between the countrymen in both countries. As a result, this could help boost trade and commerce between the nations.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe the “Cross Border QR Payment” will be helpful to both Nepalese and Indian visitors. The ability to Fonepay in India is sure to be a very welcomed service in both countries.

Samsung is willing to accompany the launch of 5G network in Nepal

    0

We’ve been hearing about 5G for quite some years now. The government-backed telco, Nepal Telecom has been internally testing the 5G network for several months. To foster the process, Samsung is keen to accompany the telcos through its 5G-enabled smartphones. In this article, we’ll discuss the 5G status and Samsung’s vested interest in the launch of 5G in Nepal.

Samsung’s Interest to Launch 5G in Nepal:

The South Korean tech giant is a well-known brand in Nepal when it comes to consumer electronics. Its Galaxy lineup of smartphones is also well-received in the market. Although the 5G launch is still at the bay currently, the brand has been launching 5G phones in Nepal for quite some years. The Galaxy M14 5G is the cheapest one from Samsung for the time being.

Samsung Galaxy M14 5G Review Battery
    Galaxy M14 5G

Looking at the existing 2G/3G/4G network, the two major telecom operators, NTC and Ncell are running the service through various bands. Both telcos are sharing Band 8 (900 MHz) and Band 1 (2100 MHz) for 2G and 3G networks respectively. For 4G services, Ncell is working through Band 8 (900MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz) while NTC runs through Band 3 (1800MHz) and Band 20 (800MHz). The government-backed telco introduced the Band 20 during its VoLTE expansion.

Samsung phones in Nepal support all the aforementioned bands and frequencies. And so, the company is keen to support the 5G network in Nepal as well. Through a press release, the company has vested its interest in launching 5G in Nepal. No, the brand is not getting directly involved with the telcos. Instead, it is willing to launch more full-fledged 5G devices in the country. In short, the brand is urging the need for 5G connectivity as soon as possible.

    5G Status in Nepal

Now, let’s take a sneak at the 5G status in Nepal. At the moment, both Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell are in the works to bring 5G. The state-owned telco began testing on February 5th, 2023, while the private one is still longing for approval from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). NTC’s internal 5G testing is currently live in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Birgunj amongst its employees. The telco is also waiting for an import license to bring equipment to test the network in other provinces.

    5G Network Nepal

Using the Non-standalone (NSA) architecture, NTC’s 5G will be supported by smartphones with 2600MHz 5G band. For starters, the NSA allows the telcos to use the existing infrastructure for upgrading to a 5G network. For example, NTC is currently using its 4G cell towers in the aforementioned areas to test the 5G network.

However, it will also enable 5G using Standalone Architecture (SA) after successfully launching the 5G network on NSA. The SA requires a standalone tower as suggested by the name to run 5G connectivity. It can provide higher bandwidth speeds than the NSA to compare.

So, when will 5G be commercially available?

The commercial launch date of the 5G network is still kept under the curtain. After concluding the internal testing, the public in major cities might get a chance to test the high-speed network via Nepal Telecom. It is speculated to happen in the Fiscal Year of 2080/81. While Ncell’s 5G will likely take more time as it still awaits government approval.

    A closer look at Huawei’s Kirin 9000S: CPU-GPU performance

    0

Geek Bay, the trusted tech source for tech news, recently conducted a broad analysis of Huawei’s Kirin 9000S processor. The test basically focused on its CPU and GPU performance. Now, let’s break down the details in simpler terms.

    Huawei Kirin 9000S Overview:

    So, what’s inside this chip?

The Kirin 9000S processor is equipped with a CPU that features a powerful custom core running at 2.62GHz. Additionally, it has 3 capable medium custom cores operating at 2.15GHz, and 4 smaller but efficient A510 cores running at 1.5GHz.

The big custom core is less powerful than Snapdragon 888‘s X1 but consumes a bit more power, approximately 1W more. About the medium cores, they perform well but don’t quite match the energy efficiency of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1‘s A710. When it comes to saving power, the small A510 cores, however, are quite efficient. It surpasses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s A510 in efficiency.

    Performance

In Geekbench 5, the Kirin 9000S scored 1005 points in single-core performance. Additionally, the multi-core score was 4019.

When running at its maximum capacity, the Kirin 9000 uses almost 13 watts of power from the motherboard.

In terms of energy usage, it actually performed better than the Snapdragon 888. However, when compared to the Snapdragon 865 and the original Kirin 9000, the new Kiring 9000S doesn’t seem as impressive.

    Hyper-Threading Boost

While turning on Hyper-Threading, the test resulted in a 21.8% boost in performance. But again, the chip consumed more power, 24.2% more to be exact.

    GPU in the Kirin 9000S

The GPU Maleoon-910 in the Kirin 9000 boasts 4 cores running at 750MHz. It matches the Snapdragon 888 in performance and energy efficiency. When compared to Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Kirin 9000S falls slightly behind in energy efficiency. Notably, there’s a significant gap compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

    Gaming Performance

Some games are not fully optimized for the Kirin chip just yet. Due to this, the games are showing slightly lower frame rates. As per Geek Bay testing, “Cold Water Cold” reached 52 fps at 7.0W (compared to Kirin 9000’s 54 fps at 5.8W), and “Crackdown 3” achieved 58 fps at 7.0W (compared to Kirin 9000’s 56 fps at 7.5W).

    Huawei Kirin 9000S: What’s next?

So, in a nutshell, the Kirin 9000S offers slightly better multi-core performance and a GPU that matches the Snapdragon 888. However, it has worse energy efficiency than other flagship chips. Still, it’s noteworthy that this chip is made domestically in China.

Moreover, there’s a rumor about Kirin 9100 chips possibly making their way into Huawei’s upcoming Mate 60 Pro+ and Mate 60 RS.
