Qualcomm launches 4nm Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 chips for wearable devices

Qualcomm unveiled two new wearable processors, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and the W5+ Gen 1. These chips, which replace the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform, are based on a more efficient 4nm process. It appears to be a significant step forward for Qualcomm, so let’s take a look at what the chips have to offer.

Qualcomm Snapdragon W5, W5+ Gen 1 Overview:

First and foremost, the “Snapdragon Wear” branding is being phased out. As a result, the new processors will be part of the main Snapdragon lineup. Despite this, the Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 are still designed for wearable devices.

Smaller Size, Bigger Performance

Qualcomm’s new wearable processors use a 4nm process. This is a significant improvement over the previous generation chips which were built on top of a 12nm process. Because of the smaller footprint, the processing is faster, there is less heat, and power consumption is lower.

Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 Specs

According to the chip manufacturer, the size reduction will provide twice the performance while using half the power. Furthermore, Qualcomm claims that the battery life will be 50% longer than that of wearables with Snapdragon Wear 4100+.

Moreover, Qualcomm is working closely with Google to optimize WearOS for their SoCs for better performance and battery life.

W5 Gen 1 vs. W5+ Gen 1

The presence of a 22nm secondary AON Co-Processor on the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 is what sets it apart from the W5 Gen 1. The coprocessor manages background tasks, allowing the main processor to intervene only when necessary to save power.

Tasks such as speech processing, audio playback, and notifications will be handled by the secondary coprocessor. This implementation translates to 57% lower power consumption according to Qualcomm.

Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 vs. Snapdragon Wear 4100+

The W5+ Gen 1 features four Cortex A53 cores and a Cortex M55 efficiency core clocked at 250MHz. The A702 GPU has a clock speed of 1GHz which is significantly faster than the 320 MHz A504 GPU on the 4100+ platform.

Moreover, Qualcomm has introduced a new Machine Learning unit U55 alongside support for faster 2133MHz LPDDR4 memory. The AON chip will also enable low-power Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, and GNSS. Similarly, the new modem supports all frequency bands and a low-power mode.

Upcoming Smartwatches with Snapdragon W5, W5+ Gen 1

The Oppo Watch 3 (releasing in August) will be the first smartwatch to use the new W5 Gen 1 processor. Similarly, Mobvoi intends to release a new TicWatch with the W5+ Gen 1 later this year.

According to Qualcomm, there are currently 25 designs in the pipeline across segments based on the new platforms.

Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro Review: These Aren’t The Upgrades You’re Looking For

In this review, I’ll be discussing all about the Amazfit Bip 3 and Bip 3 Pro budget smartwatches. These days, staying on top of your health and fitness is quite affordable thanks to all the budget smartwatches available.

And Amazfit recently added a couple of new entries in its affordable Bip series, called the Bip 3 and 3 Pro. They bring a couple of quality-of-life upgrades over the Bip U and Bip U Pro from last year. As for price, the Bip 3 goes for NPR 6,500 here in Nepal, USD 60 in the US, or INR 3,499 in India. Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro Review:

Navigation

  • 4 system satellite positioning
  • (Only on Amazfit Bip 3 Pro)

And for the added price, the only extra feature that the Bip 3 Pro has is the built-in GPS. That’s it—besides the GPS receiver, they are the same in basically everything else. And as expected from a budget smartwatch, the Bip 3 Pro guy takes some time to latch onto a signal even when you’re outdoors. But once it does, the actual workout trail recorded here is fairly accurate.

Design & Build

  • All plastic build material
  • 44.12 x 36.49 x 9.65mm, 33/33.2 grams
  • Silicone strap, 5 ATM water resistance

Now in terms of design, these guys follow the same squarish form factor as Apple smartwatches that I’m quite fond of. There’s a circular button on the right which feels inspired by the crown on an Apple Watch as well. But it doesn’t rotate. Instead, it can wake the screen, launch the app menu, or go back to the previous screen.

Amazfit Bip 3 Pro - Button

The Bip 3 and 3 Pro are… you know what? Since they’re basically the same device, I’m gonna collectively refer to them as Amazfit Bip 3 throughout the review so that I don’t sound monotonous. Sound good? Okay, the Bip 3 is pretty lightweight thanks to its all-plastic build material.

Of course that means it won’t feel as premium as other smartwatches with a metallic frame and whatnot, but that’s alright. The color options for these watches look quite fun, even though I have the basic one with a black strap and black case. Amazfit also wins full points when it comes to a comfortable wearing experience. Well, almost.

Something to consider

One thing I noticed here is that you gotta wear the watch a bit too tight if you want to get your blood oxygen level reading. Otherwise, the Amazfit Bip 3 either ends up taking a ridiculously long time or it flat out fails to measure the SpO2 level.

Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro - Design

I specifically confirmed that the sensor on the bottom of the watch was making proper contact with my wrist in both instances, so I’m not sure if this is something the company can fix with a future software update. Since it uses a 20mm universal strap, I also tested it with other 20mm straps only to reach the same conclusion.

Display

  • 1.69-inches TFT LCD panel, 218 PPI
  • 50+ watch faces, Anti-fingerprint coating

Getting to the display, the Bip 3 gets rid of the “Amazfit” branding on the chin for a larger 1.69” TFT screen. Actually, the physical size of the watch is slightly bigger this time and you can still see chunks of bezels on all four sides. Thanks to the larger display, the UI elements get a lot more room to breathe though. And they don’t look as crammed.

But I was kinda hoping Amazfit would bring a couple of more meaningful upgrades than just a bigger screen on the Bip 3.

The most significant of them all is definitely an OLED panel. If you look at the current budget wearable market in regions like India, OLED display is starting to get increasingly more common in the sub-5K segment. And I don’t think I need to go over why it’s superior to a TFT screen.

Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro - Display

If not for a vibrant OLED panel, maybe Amazfit could’ve at least included auto brightness adjustment. I’ll admit that, at its max, the Bip 3 gets plenty bright to stay visible outdoors. Then again, I would’ve preferred if the watch could adjust brightness levels on its own depending on the ambient condition.

But… does that break the user experience?

Now, neither of these factors is a dealbreaker to me in any way. Absolutely not. This display is perfectly serviceable for regular use and the watch face options are pretty decent too. But what disappointed me the most here is the pixel density.

I don’t understand why Amazfit would include a bigger screen and then lower the resolution. Because of this, you can notice pixelation on the Amazfit Bip 3 almost right away—especially if the UI bits are small like in certain watch faces. There’s also a slight delay when using the raise-to-wake function.

Software

  • FreeRTOS (instead of Amazfit’s Zepp OS)

Okay, let’s now briefly go through the UI/UX on this guy. And it’s pretty standard stuff: the control center’s on the top, all the notifications are stored at the bottom, with the widgets laid out on the sides.

Amazfit Bip 3 Pro - Zepp App

Yes, the onboard animation is a bit choppy, but that’s not a big deal for a budget smartwatch. By the way, it doesn’t support Unicode Nepali/Hindi fonts on notifications—and neither can you take calls from this watch.

Health, Fitness Tracking

  • 24-hour heart rate, SpO2 monitoring, Sleep tracking
  • 60+ sports modes, No auto workout detection

As for the health and fitness tracking options, the Amazfit Bip 3 has got most features you’d need like heart-rate, stress, SpO2, sleep monitoring, PAI, women’s health tracking, 60+ sports modes, and more.

However, it also skips a few rudimentary ones like auto workout detection and all-day blood oxygen measurement. So if you forget to manually start a walking or running workout most of the time—as I do—they don’t end up in your workout history. In any case, I like how you can customize what data to show in each exercise, set activity alerts, and so on.

For example, I can choose to view my calorie data instead of pace under running exercise. But weirdly enough, only the Bip 3 Pro supports swim tracking even though both of them are 5ATM water-resistant.

Unreliable heart-rate monitoring?

Moving on, I’m not too sure about its heart-rate measurement either.

Amazfit Bip 3 Pro - Sensor

I got incorrect high heart-rate alerts a bunch of times—above 115 BPM—even when I was just sitting idle and well-rested. Amazfit’s sleep tracking algorithm needs a little more polish as well. I’m someone who abruptly wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes, but the Bip 3 rarely recorded my awake time.

On the other hand, the way it chooses to record the time I get up is also uncanny.

As you can see from the screenshot, the watch says I got up at 5:16 AM on July 18. But the thing is, I only momentarily woke up at roughly that time and went to bed for couple more hours right away. Um…?

It can also record your sleep breathing quality—aka your blood oxygen level throughout the night—but since the feature is currently in the beta stage, I wouldn’t trust it entirely.

Companion App

  • Zepp (formerly Amazfit)
  • Available for both Android and iOS devices

Now, you can view most of your health and exercise data on the watch itself. Despite that, reaching for the Zepp app gives you a plethora of additional information.

Available for both Android and iOS devices, this is a really well-optimized app. Amazfit is basically a veteran in the wearable industry, so it’s only fitting that their software game is comparatively strong. Besides being intuitively designed, things like syncing data or watch face between the watch and the app are pretty fast too.

Battery Life

  • 280mAh (Up to 14 days of endurance)

With that out of the way, let me now talk about its battery life. Amazfit claims up to 2 weeks of endurance on the Bip 3 series under typical usage—or half of that under heavy usage here. And when turning on all the health monitoring features for the best insight, I was able to drain it in 8 days which is quite impressive.

Amazfit Bip 3 Pro - Charging

That number goes down by a day or two on the Bip 3 Pro when using GPS a couple of times a day. And using the charger provided inside the box, you can fill up its 280mAh in a little under 2 hours.

Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro Review: Conclusion

Okay, let’s wrap up this Amazfit Bip 3 and Bip 3 Pro review now. Even with all their flaws, these are still decent budget smartwatches that get the basics right. Their design is classic and comfortable, the battery life’s amazing, and looking past a few optimization issues, the health and fitness tracking side of things isn’t half bad either.

But when considering the competition, the Bip 3 duo begins to look a lot less compelling. This category is filled with some crazy competitive devices that offer a relatively better value for money. From the Noise Colorfit Vision 2 with its OLED display to the Pebble Cosmos Luxe that can take Bluetooth phone calls, the Amazfit Bip 3 series is overshadowed by some truly interesting alternatives.

Amazfit Bip 3 Pro - Wearing

And although the budget smartwatch options in the Nepali market aren’t that impressive, I believe you can get a better overall wearable experience with fitness bands instead. Like the Redmi Smart Band Pro and Huawei Band 6. Or if you already own Amazfit Bip U or Bip U Pro, maybe hold on to them a little longer.

Amazfit Bip 3, Bip 3 Pro Review: Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Fairly comfortable design
  • 5 ATM water resistant
  • Polished companion app
  • Great battery life

Cons:

  • No OLED display
  • No automatic brightness adjustment
  • The screen looks pixelated
  • Heart rate, sleep tracking not that reliable
  • Can’t automatically detect workouts

iQOO 10 Pro official with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 200W fast charging

1

iQOO has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphone lineup in China. The newly announced iQOO 10 and 10 Pro bring the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and other upgrades over last year’s 9 series. The Pro model even has 200W fast charging support, making it the first phone to achieve this feat. In this article, we will be discussing the key specs, features, expected price, and availability of the iQOO 10 series (iQOO 10, 10 Pro) in Nepal

iQOO 10 Pro Overview:

As I mentioned earlier, iQOO 10 Pro is the first commercial smartphone to boast 200W wired fast charging. This feature separates it from the vanilla iQOO 10 and competing flagships from other brands.

To make this possible, iQOO has a self-developed a 10C ultra-thin battery and a three-way charge pump. The total capacity of the battery is 4,700mAh. iQOO ships the 10 Pro with a 200W GaN (Gallium Nitride) portable charger which delivers an impressive 10A current to the battery. The default charger can fully charge the phone in just 10 minutes.

iQOO 10 Pro 200W fast charging

Furthermore, you can even use a PD and PPS-compliant charger to charge iQOO 10 Pro, although at a slower 67W.

Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

iQOO 10 Pro is also the first phone from the Vivo sub-brand to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip. The new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip is based on a more power-efficient 4nm process node from TSMC. Furthermore, it even boasts considerable boosts in CPU and GPU performance.

iQOO has paired it with Vivo’s own V1+ chip which has a dedicated gaming core that achieves 90 and 120 fps in games by adding intermediate frames using the interpolation technique. This makes the gaming experience smoother without a significant increase in power consumption.

As for memory, iQOO 10 Pro is configurable with up to 12GB of LPDD5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Camera

Over on the back, iQOO 10 Pro flaunts a triple camera setup, led by the 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor. It is a 1/1.57”-sized sensor with Vivo’s “micro gimbal” anti-shake stabilization. Accompanying it is another 50MP sensor with a wide 150-degree Field of View (FoV). The third sensor is a 14.6MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

iQOO 10 Pro Camera Setup

Over on the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera enclosed by the center-aligned punch-hole cutout.

The above-mentioned V1+ chip also has an imaging core that helps with computational photography, especially in low light. It can reduce the noise in the frame and even replace the frame altogether using an advanced AI algorithm.

Design and Display

Finally, iQOO 10 Pro sports a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED curved screen with 2K resolution. It is an LTPO 3.0 panel with support for a maximum frame of up to 120Hz. It is an HDR10+ certified panel with a peak brightness of up to 1500 nits. In addition, it has 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 10-bit color depth, and is color-calibrated from the factory.

iQOO 10 Pro Design

Underneath the screen, iQOO has placed an Ultrasonic 3D fingerprint scanner that apparently can unlock the phone in just 0.2 seconds.

Talking about the design, you can get the phone either in a Race Track or the Legendary Edition. The former represents iQOO’s partnership with BMW with its tri-color stripes. It is also a tad bit heavier than the Race Track edition which has a simpler matte black finish.

iQOO 10

iQOO 10 is a slightly-toned version of the iQOO 10 Pro. While it has the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen chip and 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED panel, iQOO has cut some corners to make it more affordable. For example, it’s a flat screen with just FHD resolution, and there is no LTPO technology. It also misses out on the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

It also has the same 4,700mAh battery, but it only supports 120W FlashCharge support. The other change is in the camera. It has the same 50MP ISOCELL GN5 sensor as the primary camera but it now has a regular OIS instead of the gimbal solution. The ultrawide camera has been downscaled to 13MP, and it has a narrower 120-degree FoV. Likewise, the 12MP telephoto lens only has a 2x optical zoom.

Gigabyte Graphics Cards Price in Nepal 2022 [Updated]

Founded back in 1986, Gigabyte is among the top PC hardware manufacturers in the world. The company makes products for both the consumer market as well as enterprise-level solutions. In this article, however, we will look at all graphics cards from Gigabyte in Nepal, including the specs, features, and latest market price.

Gigabyte Graphics Card in Nepal: Aorus vs. Gaming:

If you are shopping for Gigabyte graphics cards, you will find that the company sells two kinds of cards. You can get both the Aorus and Gigabyte Gaming cards in Nepal, albeit with different price tags.

AORUS is a premium gaming sub-brand of Gigabyte. Thus, AORUS cards have the best cooling, features, and even looks. However, it is also more expensive.

Gigabyte Gaming, on the other hand, boasts a more reasonable asking price in Nepal. However, you will miss out on most bells and whistles that AORUS offers.

Furthermore, the difference in the features and price between AORUS and Gigabyte Gaming cards varies based on the actual product. As a result, be sure to check out the features and price difference between AORUS and Gaming cards, before buying a Gigabyte graphics card in Nepal.

What about Eagle and Vision?

In addition to Aorus and Gaming, you can even find Eagle and Vision OC in the Gigabyte graphics card lineup. These are more comparable to the Gaming lineup than the high-end Aorus lineup. In fact, Vision-branded cards are the same as their Gaming counterparts, the only difference being the aesthetics.

Instead of the usual black and gray, Vision-branded cards come in silver and white color schemes. These are most appropriate for an all-white PC build and are mostly targeted at content creators.

The Eagle series is home to Gigabyte’s most affordable graphics cards. As a result, you get the most basic of specs, limited warranty coverage, and an affordable price tag.

Gigabyte Graphics Card in Nepal: NVIDIA vs. AMD

When it comes to graphics cards, there are two companies battling out in the consumer market. The rivalry between NVIDIA and AMD dates back to the 90s, but it is still relevant today. Up until now, NVIDIA has been leading the battle with its powerful specs and reach-feature set. Most importantly, Team Green has taken a lead in hardware-based Ray Tracing and Super Sampling technology. The company has taken a significant leap in live streaming technology with NVIDIA Broadcast.

Despite playing an underdog to NVIDIA in the graphics card market, AMD sort of bounced back with the latest Radeon 6000 series cards. Based on the latest RDNA 2 microarchitecture, which is also used on the latest consoles (PS, Xbox) as well as Telsa, these cards bring hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing and Super Resolution. But being first-gen solutions, they are no match to their NVIDIA counterpart.

Moving on, Radeon RX graphics cards offer nothing significant outside gaming as AMD doesn’t have anything like NVIDIA Studio and Broadcast. That being said, most of AMD’s solutions are open-source, which means you can even use them to enhance older NVIDIA cards like the GT and GTX series.

Since NVIDIA offers better raw performance and a richer feature set, its graphics cards are the most demanded, even in the context of Nepal, but they also have a comparatively higher asking price. AMD Radeon graphics cards have more consumer-friendly price tags, but they are not as readily available in Nepal.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 Series

NVIDIA announced the RTX 30 series at a time when the electronic industry was coping with the ongoing chip shortage. Furthermore, crypto miners made it really difficult to get hands on the newer Ampere cards. This resulted in acute shortages of GPUs in the market, even the older ones, causing the prices to skyrocket.

The situation has started to improve right now with prices of GPUs matching their MSP in the international market. Its effect can also be felt in Nepal, where the price of RTX 30 series GPU, has come down significantly. Likewise, the availability of stock has also improved vastly.

Oppo Enco X2 launched in India with 45dB ANC, 40 hours of battery life

0

Alongside the latest Reno 8 series phones and the Pad Air, Oppo also launched its latest pair of wireless earbuds in India. The new Enco X2 is the latest flagship TWS earbuds built in collaboration with Dynaudio. In this article, we will discuss the key specs, features, expected price, and availability of the Oppo Enco X2 in Nepal.

Oppo Enco X2 Overview:

Design

In terms of design, the Oppo Enco X2 looks a lot like its predecessor. It has the same in-ear design with silicone tips and weighs almost the same. The only notable difference between the two, at least from the outside, is the “R” and “L” letterings which are more evident on the X2. The earbuds even retain the IP54 rating, making them suitable for workouts.

Oppo offers the Enco X2 in just two colorways: Black and White. For context, Enco X had an additional blue color variant, which is missing on the X2.

The earbuds come in a color-matching charging case, which too, is mostly unchanged. Oppo has moved the LED indicator from the front to the bottom, with the second one on the inside. The case is also a little heavier because of the bigger battery inside.

Oppo Enco X2 Design

Audio Quality

Inside, Oppo Enco X2 houses a SuperDBEE co-axial dual driver system designed in collaboration with Danish speaker maker Dynaudio. It features an 11mm dynamic audio driver paired with a 6nm planar diaphragm. Oppo claims that the new quad-magnetic approach for the planar tweeter has resulted in 100% improvement in the high-frequency range with Enco X3’s frequency response ranging up to 40kHz.

Furthermore, Oppo Enco X2 supports LHDC 4.0 technology for the Hi-Res Wireless certification. The latest LHDC standard allows the TWS earbuds to have a transmission rate of up to 900 kbps/ 24 bits / 96. If these numbers don’t make sense to you, it’s thrice of what mainstream TWS earbuds offer.

To provide the best audio experience possible, Oppo has also concentrated on controlling audio leakages and integrating ear canal compensation. For this, Oppo Enco X2 comes with a re-designed DAC chip with an overall 25% sound improvement.

ANC and Connectivity

The triple-core chip also works together with the dual-microphone setup for the “Ultra-Wide” Active Noise Cancelation, which the company claims is 50% better than the last gen. The ANC on the Enco X3 is effective for the noise of up to 45dB.

The earbuds can even adjust the ANC level depending upon the surroundings.

Oppo Enco X2 has support for Bluetooth 5.2, and the company says it has 3 times better connection stability when in LHDC mode. You can even pair it with two devices and switch between them simultaneously.

Oppo Enco X2 Game Mode

For gamers, the dedicated low-latency mode can effectively limit the audio latency to up to 94ms. It is also the first wireless earbuds to have Dolby Audio Binaural recording.

Battery and Charging

Oppo Enco X2 features a 57mAh battery which can last up to 9.5 hours on a single charge with the ANC off. Taking the 566mAh battery of the charging case into account, the hours increase to 40. It is with the default AAC mode.

Turning on the LHDC mode, Enco X2 lasts up to 6.5 hours and 27 hours without and with the charging case.

Oppo Enco X2’s fast charging support allows it to fully charge in 50 minutes. The charging case takes 30 minutes more to refill. It even supports Qi Wireless support.

Oppo Pad Air with 2K display, Snapdragon 680 launching soon in Nepal

1

Following the release of the Oppo Pad earlier this year, the company followed it up with a more affordable “Air” model about 2 months ago. This tablet has now landed in the Indian market, and it’s launching soon here in Nepal as well. In this article, we will go through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Oppo Pad Air in Nepal.

Oppo Pad Air Overview:

Design and Display

The Oppo Pad Air has a flat-edge design with squared-off edges. The back keeps the two-tone appearance of the original Pad, but now has a textured pattern with a shine to it. Oppo says, the pattern is crafted through a five layer process design and the matte surface at the back keeps the fingerprints and smudges at bay.

Performance

Inside, the tablet gets its power from a Snapdragon 680 chipset. It’s a 6nm chipset that features Kyro 265 CPU cores and Adreno 610 GPU. This mobile silicon is paired with either 4 or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The latter is expandable up to 512GB as it supports a microSD card.

It also supports 3GB of virtual memory expansion. Moreover, the Pad Air brings software based on Android 12 with ColorOS for Pad on top. Fueling the tablet is a 7100mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.
