The CMF Phone 1 stands out with its unique removable back panel, featuring a rotating dial at the bottom and a visible screw.
In terms of specifications, it boasts a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2000 nits of peak brightness, and HDR10+ certification. Other than that, the 5000mAH battery lasts for a day easily while it supports 33W, CMF doesn’t ship one in the box.
Samsung always has a good option, no matter the price range. The Galaxy A10 series is widely popular and is consistently the highest-selling Android phone around the world year after year. And for good reasons too!
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G comes with a decent set of hardware. For starters, you get the classic Galaxy design with a best-in-class Samsung Super AMOLED panel on the front. Under the hood, you get the MediaTek Dimensity 6300. Which got a decent performance for the price.
Moving on, the cameras include a 50MP primary shooter coupled with a 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. Meanwhile, on the front, you get a 13MP camera for selfies.
On top of that, the South Korean tech giant offers 6 years of OS updates and 6 years of security patches on this phone. This many updates are unparalleled, even in a higher price segment. Furthermore, these updates make the phone relevant even in the years to come because it will be running on the most recent software.
Lastly, Samsung exclusively bundles an original charger with the box in Nepal. This offer brings the effective price of the phone down as the adapter would be worth NPR 2,000 if you had to purchase it separately.
At this price range, the smartphones are further refined and compromises are fewer too. So, from a use case standpoint, smartphones under NPR 40,000 will serve best for students. Additionally, the options in this price range are rather limited, hence, you will have to stretch your budget a little bit more to get the finest deal.
2. Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G
The Redmi Note 14 Pro is the best smartphone you as a student can get under NPR 40,000 without stretching your budget one bit! This time, it’s 5G, so it’s futureproof.
You get a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and flagship Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on top of it. Meanwhile, in the performance department, we get our Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Ultra SoC. This time it has Ultra behind its name, but it doesn’t matter. It’s practically the same, just like the regular Dimensity 7300.
This phone, however, offers a larger memory and storage combination. The lower configuration is 8GB + 256GB while the larger one is a 12GB + 512GB combo. Furthermore, it also packs a large 200MP primary camera with OIS support. The megapixels don’t really matter much though… Why don’t you read our detailed review on this phone instead?
The recent price drop of in Nepal makes the Nothing Phone (2a), the best phone in Nepal under 40,000. But do note, it’s only available at Hukut Store. The Phone (2a) is a decent option that ticks a lot of boxes that we look for on a midrange phone anyway.
Starting with performance. The Phone (2a) is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, which can handle most of your everyday use just fine. Especially since Nothing’s custom Android skin feels so smooth and effortless compared to most Chinese phones. Then there’s the promise of 3 years of OS updates and a year more of security patches that further sweetens the deal.
And of course, its design is as unique as they come. You don’t get all the Glyph lights like you would on Nothing’s more expensive phones like the Phone (1) and Phone (2), but it gets the job done to keep you notified. You know what? Even though the Phone (2a) has a plastic build, it doesn’t feel that cheap when you’re actually holding it in your hands.
It has a nice 120Hz OLED display too. With decent colors, brightness levels, and everything. I’m pretty happy with its vibration feedback as well, while the Phone (2a)’s battery life isn’t too bad either. And under light to medium usage, it should easily last you around one and a half days.
As for cameras, Nothing has gone with a similar dual camera setup at the back as on the Phone (2), but with a different set of sensors. We found its camera capabilities to be pretty decent for the most part, although Nothing could still push an update or two to further optimize the Phone (2a)’s cameras.
At this price point, you are looking at phones that are closing in on perfection. They offer some features that you would normally associate with flagship phones. These phones are comparable to top-of-the-line offerings from a few years back. As such, they still feel luxurious while still being under that premium price tag. Hence, these are not just the best smartphones for students, but for everyone in general.
2. Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus
The top-end model in Xiaomi’s latest Redmi Note 14 series is a very good option to go for under 50,000 rupees. This guy brings a bunch of flagship features at a mid-range price, like Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the display, IP68 dust and water resistance rating, and 120W fast charging.
It has a nice curved finish on both sides and either a glass or leather finish on the back of the phone. And fortunately, this time, the leather variant of Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is available in Nepal. As for the display, it’s got a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution, 12-bit colors, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ certification, 3000 nits of peak brightness, and so much more.
Under the hood, the Note 14 Pro+ is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen3 chip. It’s a fairly powerful processor for casual everyday usage, multitasking, and even a little bit of gaming. We also like how Xiaomi has been generous with the storage on this thing since you get 256GB of storage in the base model itself.
In terms of software, it boots on HyperOS built on top of Android 14. And although Xiaomi has promised 3+4 years of updates for this guy, we would’ve liked to see it launch with Android 15-based HyperOS 2 instead. Getting to the optics, it has a triple-camera setup at the back. But it uses the same camera setup as last year’s Redmi Note 13 Pro+, a 200MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro unit.
If you are somewhat familiar with the smartphone world, then I know “Where is Nothing Phone (3a)” was always there at the back of your mind.
This new Nothing device offers great value, bringing unique aesthetics to the midrange segment. With its signature transparent design, an IP64 rating, a 50MP telephoto camera, and 50W charging support, it stands out in both style and functionality.
Internally, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset powers the device, balancing performance with budget constraints. While it may not match the latest flagship processors, it delivers sufficient power for everyday use.
Unless pushed to its absolute limits, the Nothing Phone (3a) maintains smooth performance without issues. Additionally, the user interface remains one of the most refined in the industry, enhancing the overall experience.
The idea of “value for money” pretty much peaks at the NPR 50,000 mark. Now above this, we are looking at more of an enthusiast offerings. At the premium midrange segment, the lines with flagship offerings are blurred even further. And most students and people won’t find much to complain about with these smartphones.
Also, the competition is very thin in this price range as not many options are available here. From the available ones, the following two options stick out the most.
3. Vivo V50 5G
We have Vivo V50 5G in here at the NPR 60,000 price point. This phone has a beautiful design with a slim profile and curved edges. This phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset which is a decent chip, if not the best. As such, the performance aspect of this phone has been covered pretty well.
However, this phone is a camera phone above all else. It is one of, if not, the best option out there if you are all about taking photos. It can even take photos with special lens flare effects. So, cameras are your utmost priority, then you cannot go wrong with the Vivo V50 5G. Its 50MP primary and 50MP ultrawide cameras especially have ZEISS coating.
And Vivo V40 will receive three years of OS updates and five years of security updates. Besides design, Vivo V40 cameras are pretty solid for both photos and videos. Lastly, the phone gets its juice from a 5500mAh battery and 80W And thanks to an efficient 4nm processor, it holds up throughout the day.
The Galaxy A56 5G continues to bring the A-Series charm in the premium midrange segment. As such, this phone is one of the best smartphones there is for students in this segment. Continuing on the trajectory, the Samsung Galaxy A56 5G has a few upgrades over the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G.
Starting with the build, you have the metal frames on this phone while the camera module gets a cosmetic change this time. The screen on this thing is pretty much the same, as is most of the hardware. The ultrawide shooter and the selfie camera are also the same 12MP and 32MP respectively. In the meantime, the chipset has also been upgraded to Exynos 1580 which is fresh out of the foundry. It offers performance not too off from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 on the Vivo V50 5G.
Hence, the thing that edges this Samsung phone from the Vivo is the same little things. Like the better OneUI experience, more updates to receive, better build quality, and so on. And yes, the NPR 2,000 worth free adapter is available on this one as well.
Bagging the crown rightfully is none other than the recently launched Honor 200 Pro. Under the hood, this guy packs a powerful Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chip, which can provide a similar performance as the last-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for all your multitasking and file-storing needs.
The design is also pretty premium here with a metal frame and an attractive rear panel. Upfront, a curved AMOLED panel greets you, stretching at 6.78-inch with FHD+ resolution. As always, the display quality is top-notch here, arguably the best in the pack. There is a 3D sensor on the pill-shaped cutout for secured facial recognition security. And fueling this phone is a 5200mAh Silicon Carbon battery with 100W fast charging and 66W wireless charging.
This premium midrange phone boasts an impressive specs sheet down the line plus the best camera under the 1 lakh category in Nepal. You get a triple camera setup headlined by a 50MP OmniVision OV50H sensor with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2.5X telephoto Sony IMX856 sensor with OIS.
And the latter one steals the show here with stellar portraits. Thanks to the collaboration with Paris-based Harcourt studio, the phone can mimic scenes of the famous portrait studio, leaving you with some professional-looking portraits. Likewise, the main camera is equally good, as is a super decent UW camera.
Now, let’s say you did extremely well in your exams and your parents are ready to reward you with a flagship. But without going overboard with the spending. Then the following flagship phones are available under NPR 100,000 right now. These smartphones are the absolute best for students, and everyone for that matter, to get that top-of-the-line experience without having to reach deep into your pockets.
2. iPhone 15
Need I even explain why is it here? It’s an iPhone. Though it’s nearly 2 and a half years old at this point. However, this phone is still going strong, fares pretty well, and is set to receive updates until 2028.
You know how Apple gets a stick for bringing very minor improvements year in and year out, right? Well, that also means that you are not missing out on much by opting for an iPhone 15. The iPhone is THE camera phone, and this reigns true even for this older model. You’ll get fantastic photos from this one.
There are obviously some caveats, the refresh rate is 60Hz, which is disappointing for a phone of this caliber. But, since the A16 Bionic chipset is very powerful and the reliable iOS, the experience is gonna get sweet. Apart from that, there are barely any downsides to getting an iPhone 15 in 2025.

It comes with a stellar camera setup, a 50MP main, a 10MP 3X tele lens, and a 12MP UW camera. Which take superb photos!
All in all, it’s a good phone. Very good phone indeed. There is a “Plus” model of the phone as well. However, you are barely missing out on anything with this vanilla variant. On top of that, it is more expensive anyway. So yeah! This is the best smartphone a student can currently get for themselves!
