A new sleek iPhone is on the way!

Apple is all set to shake things up with the 17th version of its device. From the rumors, it seems like the company plans to retire the Plus model in favour of an all-new “Slim” iPhone. Let’s dive into all the buzz surrounding the iPhone 17 Slim (or Air) and the things it might soon unveil.

iPhone Air

Instead of being the ‘iPhone 17 Slim’, there’s a good chance that the upcoming phone might be launched with the “Air” moniker.

Mirroring the design philosophy of the MacBook Air and iPad Air, this new model emphasizes a lightweight and ultra-thin form factor, targeting casual consumers who prioritize portability and sleek design. Not only that, with a single rear camera, a titanium-aluminium alloy frame, and a focus on design over high-end features, the iPhone 17 Air aligns perfectly with the concept of a smooth, mid-range device. Although Apple has yet to make any official announcements, the “Air” designation seems to capture the essence of this new iPhone, suggesting a fresh approach to combining style and functionality in their product lineup.

However, most rumors point at it being called the iPhone 17 Slim so that’s what we are going with.

Iphone 17 Slim Rumors

A new iPhone form factor

Even before the iPhone 16 hits the shelves, rumours about the iPhone 17 are already making waves in the tech world. A brand-new form factor for an iPhone is on its way.

iPhone 17 Slim

Reports suggest that Apple is focusing more on aesthetics this time. As the name implies, the new model’s main attraction will be its thinness, unlike the Pro models, which emphasize camera quality and processing power to stand out from Apple’s standard iPhones.

Why the Slim?

According to a report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Plus model makes up only a small percentage of (5-10%) of all new iPhones sold. This suggests that the other three models (Standard, Pro, and Pro Max) are already meeting the needs of customers looking for high-end iPhones, and the Plus model doesn’t add much value and is considered “redundant”.

So, Apple may phase out the iPhone Plus, a larger-sized base model, in favour of the new iPhone 17 Slim in 2025. That being said, there is conflicting information regarding this where some reporters suggest that this upcoming model is not meant to replace existing models; while others claim that it will replace the “Plus” in the lineup.

Design and Display

The iPhone 17’s design features a sleek, ultra-thin profile with a titanium-aluminium alloy metal frame, emphasizing form-factor above everything. Well, this could be a clever idea for Apple to get customers excited about the iPhone’s design again. The size of the dynamic island is likely going to stay the same while the screen size is going to be 6.6 inches, with a resolution of 2,740 x 1,260.

Camera and Software

Speaking of the camera, the company’s super-slim iPhone may only have one main wide camera, meaning it would lack the ultrawide and telephoto lenses that have been staples within Apple’s premium iPhone lineup for years. Additionally, all iPhone 17 models, including the Slim, will feature an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera which is a notable change from the 12-megapixel cameras found in current models.

The iPhone 17 will be powered by an A19 chip (not Pro) and will include Apple’s in-house 5G modem which hopefully will enhance connectivity.

iPhone 17 Slim Specifications (Rumored)

  • Design: Just about 5mm thick, slim body
  • Display: 6.6 “ inches with 2,740 x 1,260 resolution
  • Processor: A19 chip with Apple’s in-house 5g chip
  • Build: Titanium-aluminium alloy metal frame
  • Camera: 24MP front-facing cameras, Single rear camera (wide camera)

iPhone 17 Slim: Worth the price?

Well, if the company is prioritizing the form factor this time, what justifies charging $1300 for this model?  There are hardly any wow factors about this phone as per the rumours. Including just one rear camera would help Apple keep the device slim and reduce bulk by saving significant space. However, charging the highest price of all the models for this one is quite underwhelming, especially considering that higher-end iPhones use the A19 Pro chip.

Motorola adds an object tracker — “Moto Tag” to its catalogue

We all remember AirTag and all the commotion it created. Now, Motorola too is offering a similar product to its customers. In this article, we will look into the Moto Tag in further detail and also discuss the chances of its availability and potential price in Nepal.

Moto Tag Overview

Design

The Moto Tag is quite similar to the AirTag as it is a circular disc. The dimensions of the two are nearly identical too with the former measuring 31.90 mm x 8.00 mm and the latter coming in at 32.00 mm x 7.90 mm. Given the design similarity, the Moto Tag goes well with various AirTag accessories. You get IP67 dust and water resistance on both the trackers too.

Moto Tag

The two may be alike, but there are certain differentiating characteristics between them. Firstly, the Motorola offering has a protrusion on both sides while the AirTag has a smooth unibody. Likewise, the AirTag has a stainless steel build but the Moto Tag opts for plastic instead. The material choice cuts its weight down to only 7.5 grams, making it 3.5 grams lighter in comparison. Lastly, the Motorola tracker is available in more colour options, namely Starlight Blue and Jade Green.

Features

The Moto Tag is equipped with Bluetooth v5.4 as well as Ultra-wideband for tracking and connectivity. The Bluetooth is obviously a low-energy one to maximise the device’s battery life. This tracker works with devices running on Android 9.0 and up, where it can be seamlessly paired through Google Fast Pair.

Moto Tag Fast Pairing

It taps into Google’s Find My Device network to do the tracking. You can then locate your belongings with Precision Finding.  If you still cannot find the tagged belonging, then you can even beep the Moto Tag and it produces a sound of up to 75dB. Not only does it help locate whatever you tagged, it works the other way around and helps you find your misplaced phone. Other than that, it works as a remote for your smartphone camera as well, allowing you to take hands-free photos without setting a timer.

Battery and Privacy

Talking of the battery, it goes with a CR2032 cell which can last a year with the Moto Tag. The battery is a coin-like unit that goes in other appliances like watches, calculators, and even toys.

Moto Tag Notifications

Privacy is a concern when dealing with devices like these as it can facilitate stalking. To counter this, the Moto Tag notifies all the Android in the vicinity of 100 metres about its presence. However, only the owner of the tag can exactly pinpoint the location of their tag on Google Maps. Additionally, the whole notifying process is anonymous and end-to-end encrypted.

Moto Tag Specifications

  • Design: Disk-like with protrusion on both sides, IP67-rated
  • Dimensions: 31.90 mm x 8.00 mm
  • Weight: 7.5 grams
  • Material: Plastic
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth v5.4 (BLE), Ultra-wideband
  • Compatibility: Android 9.0+
  • Audio: 75dB at 10cm
  • Battery: CR2032, replaceable, lasts about a year
  • Features: Precision Finding, Google Fast Pair, Remote Control for smartphone camera, Find your smartphone, Notifies nearby Android devices, End-to-end encrypted
  • Colour Options: Starlight Blue, Jade Green

Moto Tag Price in Nepal and Availability

Like any other Motorola device, it will likely not be available in Nepal. Even if it does, you will not be able to use Precision Finding with it as UWB doesn’t work in Nepal. It is priced at USD 29.99 for a piece, based on that, we expect the Moto Tag price in Nepal to be around NPR 4,999.

Moto Tag Price in the USA (Official) Price in Nepal (Expected)
1 unit USD 29 NPR 4,999
4 units USD 99 NPR 15,999

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor launched with anti-burn-in technology

While Samsung’s latest mobile products like its foldable phones, smart rings, and Watch Ultra have been the talk of the town, the company has launched an OLED gaming monitor with anti-burn-in measures. Let’s discuss the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 in further detail including its supposed price in Nepal.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Overview

Design and Display

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 monitor has a futuristic-looking sleek metal design. It is available in a single silver colour with lines going through the back. The monitor has something called CoreLighting+ which is a circular LED strip right at its centre. The viewing device has a height-adjustable stand that allows it to tilt, pivot, and swivel too.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Design

Talking of the screen, we are looking at a 32 inches of flat OLED panel. It comes in a glare-free finish and offers 4K resolution. Burn-in issues have plagued OLED screens ever since their inception. Firstly, this monitor has a Pulsating Heat Pipe inside it which regulates the internal temperature of the device.

Samsung Pulsating Heat Pipe

In addition, the Thermal Modulation System is also put forth. It is an algorithm that predicts the surface temperature of the panel as well as detects static images like logos and taskbar being displayed on the monitor. It then controls the display’s brightness accordingly to regulate the heat produced.

Other Features

Other than that, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 packs the NQ8 AI Gen 3 processor that upscales low-res images to nearly 4K to offer you the best viewing quality. This processor also utilises AI to get rid of motion blurs by sharpening and smoothening moving objects and texts on the monitor.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be the slimmest and the largest foldable in town!

The Pixel Fold was the first foldable smartphone from Google, launched in June 2023. It mostly received positive reviews across the globe. And Google is bringing its successor, on its August 13 event launch. Without further ado, let’s get straight into the rumours surrounding the upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold in this article today.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Rumors

Design and Display

The upcoming Pixel 9 Pro Fold is set to be one of the thinnest foldable smartphones, with dimensions of 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5 mm when closed and 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.1 mm when open. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with a huge 8-inch Super Actua Flex Display, known for its top-notch performance and flexibility, giving an immersive and dynamic visual experience.

Plus, it can reach a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits, a significant upgrade from the original Pixel Fold’s 1,450 nits. This will make it the largest display for a foldable phone upon release, surpassing the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4’s 7.98-inch screen (or the MIX Fold 2’s 8.02-inch screen in older models). Additionally, the outer screen is a 6.3-inch Actua Display, which is larger than the Pixel Fold’s and matches the size of the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s outer screen.

Talking about the weight, the Pro Fold is lighter (weighing 257g) than the previous model,  but still is a bit heftier than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and OnePlus Open, which each weigh 239g.

Battery and Storage:

The phone is expected to feature a 4,560mAh battery, which is quite impressive for a foldable device. This is better than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5G’s 4,235mAh battery, showcasing an impressive improvement while having the challenges of fitting a larger battery into a foldable form factor.

It claims to provide 24 hours of use on a single charge and extend up to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode.

About storage, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers options up to 512GB, which is competitive with the Galaxy Fold 5G’s storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage.

Reports suggest the upcoming Pixel foldable is being tested with 16GB of RAM and faster UFS 4.0 storage. On the contrary, the Pixel Fold uses a UFS 3.1 storage. And the upcoming foldable will boot on Andriod 15.

Cameras and Software

Pixel phones are known for their exceptional camera quality. So, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is sure to pack an improved camera setup. It is debuting a few new features like Add Me. It seems to be a feature that allows the person taking the picture to include themselves in a group selfie, sounds pretty cool.

Additionally, the Pixel 9 series will, unsurprisingly, get 7 years of Feature Drops, ensuring long-term support and updates.

Google Pixel Watch 3 Slimmer Bezels, Same Chip, and a Blazing 2,000 Nits Display!

After the massive success of the Google Pixel Watch 2, the Google Pixel Watch 3 is all set to make its debut in the market with some refinement by addressing the existing issues. The watch will likely feature the same chip, smaller bezels, and a brighter 2,000-nit display.

What We Know About the Pixel Watch 3

Rumours suggest that the Pixel Watch 3 will come in two sizes: 41 mm (Selene/Helios) and 45 mm (Luna/Sol). Both of them will feature Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for improved connectivity. Android Authority confirms that this watch will use the same Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chipset as last year’s model, ensuring continued high performance.

Let’s dig deeper

A major upgrade for the Pixel Watch 3 is its brighter 2,000 nits display, which doubles the brightness of the Pixel Watch 2 and matches the Apple Watch Series 9. The bezels are also getting slimmer, reducing from 5.5 mm to 4.5 mm for a sleeker look. Talking about the display, the 41 mm model will have a 408 x 408p panel, while the 45 mm model will feature a 456 x 456 pixels screen.

Design-wise, the Pixel Watch 3 will keep a similar look to the Pixel Watch 2 but some new colours: silver, black, gold (41 mm), and hazel (45 mm). Additionally, a new Rose Quartz band will be available to complement the Pixel 9. So this new watch is all set to deliver a brighter display, slimmer bezels, and fresh colour options.

Is the Pixel Watch 3 What You Expected?

In conclusion, the Google Pixel Watch 3 takes an iterative approach, maintaining the same chipset as its predecessor. This might disappoint users looking for a real performance upgrade but might not a big deal to those who value consistency.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Graphics Cards Price in Nepal [Updated]

Nvidia announced the flagship RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards back in September 2022 at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) event. Whereas the company followed it up with the RTX 4070 Ti a couple of months later, which is reportedly three times more powerful than the flagship card in RTX 30 series, the RTX 3090 Ti. Let’s check out the specifications, features, availability, and price of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards in Nepal.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Overview:

A bit of controversy

As aforementioned, NVIDIA kicked off the RTX 40 series with RTX 4090 and RTX 4080. And the 4080 came in two flavors: one with 12GB VRAM and the other with 16GB (among other differences). But after facing backlashes from the community on the 12GB RTX 4080, NVIDIA pulled it back and re-released it as RTX 4070 Ti instead. While also dropping the price by USD 100.

Here, the RTX 4070 Ti is based on the same Ada Lovelace architecture and therefore boasts features like DLSS 3 as well. And the company claims that this card is faster than 3090 Ti at nearly half the power consumption. Whereas the 4070 Ti has a 12x better relative performance upgrade over the GTX 1080 Ti launched back in 2016.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Aftermarket Cards

Besides 12GB GDDR6X video memory, it has 285W TGP, 7680 CUDA cores, 3rd-gen RT cores, 4th-gen Tensor cores, and a 192-bit memory bus. Similarly, its base and boost clock speeds are 2.31 GHz and 2.61 GHz, respectively.

According to NVIDIA’s internal testing, the 4070 Ti is capable of hitting over 120 fps at 1440p in modern games like “F1 22”, “Warhammer 40,000: Darktide”, and more. Furthermore, it also supports hardware-based AV1 encoding for live streams, video editing, and other workloads. Moreover, RTX 4070 Ti features dual 8th Generation NVIDIA Encoders which reportedly increases the export speed upto 2 times.
