Nokia G21 with 90Hz display, up to 3 days battery life launched in Nepal

0

Nokia announced its first smartphone of 2022, the new Nokia G21, back in February. This is a budget device and the successor to last year’s G20. And now, the phone has made its way to Nepal as well. In this article, we will be discussing the specs, key features, official price, and availability of the Nokia G21 in Nepal.

Nokia G21 Overview:

Design and Display

Nokia G21 sports a 6.5” IPS LCD panel with an HD resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. Unlike its predecessor, it now supports a 90Hz refresh rate. It’s an adaptive refresh rate, and the screen can dial back to 60Hz when needed. Likewise, Nokia has even added support for HD playback for Netflix on the G21.

Over on the back, Nokia is finally moving away from the circular camera bump that its smartphones have been known for. There is now a rectangular camera bump with round corners which houses the triple camera setup.

Nokia G21 Design and Display

Performance and Memory

Under the hood, Nokia G21 packs the Unisoc T606 chipset. This particular processor is based on TSMC’s 12nm process and features two Cortex-A75 and six Cortex-A55. As a result, it should perform a lot better than G20’s Helio G35 with eight Cortex-A53 cores. Handling the graphics this time around is the Mali G57 GPU.

Nokia has paired the chipset with 4GB of RAM. Likewise, users can choose between 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. There is also an option to expand the storage using an external microSD card.

Camera

Nokia has cut down the number of cameras on the G21. While the G20 had a quad-camera setup, its successor only has three. The primary camera now uses a 50MP sensor, up from 48MP. Accompanying it is a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. Unfortunately, it does not have any ultrawide sensor.

Nokia is emphasizing more on the camera software features. The G21 brings a new Super Resolution mode which the company claims will capture better detail. There is also an improved Night Mode.

Software

The software has always been a strong selling point for Nokia. Here, the Nokia G21 boots on Android 11 out of the box. That being said, the company has promised two major Android updates. Further, the phone is also eligible for three years of security patches. Buyers will also get 30 days of free trial of Express VPN.

Moreover, the software-based Face Unlock feature has now been tweaked to recognize users even with a mask on.

Rest of the specs

There is no real improvement in the battery specs. Nokia G21 still comes with a 5,050mAh battery. But the company claims to have improved the battery saving mode which now has two stages with the first one starting at 20% battery.

The charging speed has been increased to 18W. However, the phone will ship with a 10W adapter in the box. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Nokia G21 Specifications:

  • Body: 75.9 x 164.6 x 8.5mm, 190 gm
  • Display: 6.5-inches IPS LCD panel, 90Hz refresh rate 2.5D cover glass

0

Infinix has just unveiled Hot 12 Play as its latest budget offering in Nepal. It is the successor to Hot 11 Play which was launched just a couple of months ago. It is the second Hot 12 series phone to launch in Nepal after the Hot 12i. Here, we will be discussing the specs, features, official price, and availability of the Infinix Hot 12 Play in Nepal.

Infinix Hot 12 Play Overview:

Design and Display

One of the major changes in the Infinix Hot 12 Play is the inclusion of a higher refresh rate panel. Like its predecessor, Hot 12 Play also sports a 6.82-inch HD+ LCD screen. However, it now supports a refresh rate of up to 90Hz and a touch sampling rate of 180Hz. Infinix has also replaced the waterdrop notch with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout for a modern look.

Infinix Hot 12 Play Design and Display

Performance and Memory

Under the hood, Infinix Hot 12 Play is powered by Unisoc T610, which is built on a 12nm process. The chip is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. But only the 4/64GB  and 4/128GB variants are available in Nepal as of now. You can use the virtual RAM feature to expand the latter up to 7GB. Likewise, there is also a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Camera

Despite there being an extra camera cutout on the back, Infinix Hot 12 Play only has two rear cameras. The dual-camera setup is pretty much unchanged from last time. You get the same 13MP primary + 2MP AI lens combination on the Hot 12 Play. Even the 8MP selfie camera on the front is the same as before.

Huawei MateBook D15 Review: Just Another Fish In The Sea

In this review, I’ll be talking all about this Huawei MateBook D 15 laptop. The 2019 Huawei ban cornered the once-dominant smartphone manufacturer to redirect its focus to different products. While they continued making phones, barely any of them were well received in the global market given the lack of Google services.

But since Microsoft is one of the few US-based companies that can work with Huawei, we’ve seen quite a few Windows laptops from the brand. Its laptops usually boast decent specs, although their similarities to the Apple Macbook devices are something that is often condemned.

Today, we will be taking a look at the Matebook D 15, which is a well-rounded offering from Huawei. The solid aluminum build, intelligent fingerprint scanner, and Full HD display paired with 11th gen i5 processor make it a desirable laptop, especially if you are already in the Huawei ecosystem. But a few glaring setbacks make the laptop challenging to recommend. Let’s talk about them in this review.

Huawei MateBook D 15 Specifications:

  • Body: 357.8W x 229.9D x 16.9H-mm, 1.56 kg
  • Display: 15.6-inches FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, 250 nits
  • Keyboard: Full-sized backlit keyboard
  • Touchpad: Multi-touch supported touchpad
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-1135G7
  • Memory: 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD
  • Graphics: Intel Iris Xe
  • Audio: 2x speaker
  • Battery: 42 WHr, 65W USB-C power adapter
  • Webcam: 720p HD camera (hidden)
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth 5.1
  • I/O ports: 1x 3.5mm mic/headphone jack, 2x USB 2.0 Type-A, 1x USB Type-C (charging supported), 1x HDMI, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 109,990

Huawei Matebook D 15 Review:

Design and Build

  • 357.8W x 229.9D x 16.9H-mm, 1.56 kg
  • All-aluminium build

Huawei MateBook D 15 Design

The Matebook D15 is a well-built laptop that feels sturdy and premium thanks to its all-aluminum body. It fits a 15.6-inch display into a body measuring 16.9mm and weighs only 1.56kg, making it a breeze to carry around. Huawei’s focus on portability becomes more evident when looking at the compact 65W Type-C charger they provide. Overall, portability and build quality should be no issue.

The keyboard on the Matebook D 15 is also spacious and gets the job done. While it is no Macbook keyboard, the textured keys are relatively pleasant to type on. However, the lack of backlighting on the keyboard can be a deal-breaker for many people.

But what does not disappoint is the large trackpad that produces a satisfying clicking. The keyboard also houses a hidden pop-up camera in the middle of the F-row. I get that it is a great implementation to reduce the screen bezel—and perhaps to prevent the webcam from being used by malware to record you uncannily—but it does not serve any practical purpose. Instead, the awkward camera angle means that it’s one of those laptops with the “up the nose” cameras.

Ports

Now, something that is well placed is the power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Added security is always welcome when it is this fast and easy to use. The Matebook D15’s port selection is adequate, with three Type-A USB ports and one Type-C 3.1 port. There is also an HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. While the Type-C port can charge the laptop, it cannot output DisplayPort or Thunderbolt.

Display

  • 15.6-inches FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS
  • 250 nits brightness

The display on the Matebook D15 is a bit disappointing when you consider its price in Nepal. In addition, the color reproduction is not the best; it can get only as bright as 250 nits, making it difficult for me to use it in brighter environments. However, the matte finish on the screen did help reduce the reflections and improve usability.

MateBook D15 Display

Unfortunately, the bottom bezel is still thick with the display sporting an aspect ratio of 16:9. But, I would have certainly loved to see a higher resolution 16:10 display on it for the price.

For a wannabe Macbook, Huawei should’ve also tried replicating its great audio system. The laptop has two bottom-firing speakers that produce average sound at best. The speakers sound the best while placed on a hard surface.

Performance

  • Intel Core i5-1135G7
  • 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD

In terms of performance, my unit of the MateBook D 15 came with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD. Basic tasks like word processing, media consumption, and web browsing went through like a breeze. I have yet to face any lags regarding daily use case scenarios.

MateBook D15 Display -1

I could even squeeze some basic photo and video editing out of it. But, of course, you would not want a laptop with an integrated Intel GPU for gaming. And, of course, the Matebook D15 is not made for that purpose. Still, you can easily play less demanding titles like Valorant, CSGO, League of Legends, and such at low settings.

If you are a music producer though, be assured that FL Studio will run well here. For cooling, it features a single fan and a heat pipe, and the laptop functions quietly under your regular chores, The included cooling system also does a decent job to keep the temperatures in check. However, the fan does kicks on under heavy workloads.

Battery

  • 42Wh battery
  • 65W Type-C adapter

Let’s talk about the battery now. The 42Wh cell on the Matebook D15 is relatively small for a 15-inch, and it shows. My daily usage consisted of text editing and watching full-screen videos on YouTube, which lasted a little more than 9 hours. However, switching to performance mode reduces the battery life in favor of better performance.

MateBook D15 Charger

Connectivity was no issue with this Matebook as it supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also has NFC to facilitate Huawei Share. However, this handy feature is useless if you don’t own a supported Huawei device.

Huawei Matebook D 15 Review: Conclusion

All in all, the Huawei Matebook D 15 is an all-around decent laptop but not worth the price it carries in Nepal. Another issue is the sparse availability and aftermarket service. It will be considerably difficult to find parts for Huawei laptops compared to ones from established players like Dell and Asus.

The closest competition to the Huawei Matebook D15 is another Macbook-like laptop, the Mi Notebook Pro. It costs exactly the same but blows the D15 out of the water. First and foremost, the 2.5K display on the Notebook Pro has much better color reproduction as well as a 16:10 aspect ratio.

Mi Notebook Ultra Design-1

Secondly, it is powered by an 11th-gen H-series processor, which is a mild improvement compared to the G7 on the Matebook D15. Finally, the conventional camera placement also makes it ideal for video conferences. Almost forgot; it also supports Thunderbolt 4. The Huawei Matebook D15 would have been feasible if the price aligned with its global pricing. But for now, it is just another Windows laptop in a Mac-like shell that cannot keep up with what other companies offer in this range.

Huawei Matebook D 15 Review: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Sturdy, premium build
  • Reliable performance
  • Good battery life
  • Integrated fingerprint scanner

Cons:

  • Average display
  • No backlight keyboard
  • Awkward camera placement
  • Extremely priced in Nepal

Dyson is working on robots that will keep your house clean

0

Dyson is a well-known brand for vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, and bladeless fans. The firm, however, plans to make more than just household utilities. The business has been working on autonomous robots capable of performing household chores in particular. Continue reading to learn more about Dyson Robots.

Dyson Robots Overview:

Dyson revealed its development about the robots at the recent 39th IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Philadelphia. Currently, the company has been designing and training mechanical attachments that function as human hands.

Dyson has posted a video on its official YouTube channel illustrating how the robots are meant to function.

The video shows the robot picking up a teddy bear, a plate, and cleaning a sofa. While this may appear to be a simple task, keep in mind that robots still struggle with many tasks that we humans take for granted.

Future Plans

For a more efficient workflow, Dyson has plans to develop the UK’s largest robotics research center at its Hullavington Airfield facility. Aside from that, the brand will be investing £600 million this year for research on products and technology such as robots and batteries. In total, the company is planning to invest around £2.75 billion between 2020 and 2025.

A strong foundation

Getting started as one of the pioneers in the robotics sector, the company obviously needs a strong core team. So, in order to develop a solid foundation, Dyson is currently on a hiring spree, having employed 2,000 people only in 2022. It aims to employ 700 additional robotics engineers over the course of the next five years.

Dyson Robots: Availability

Dyson has not announced the robot’s availability or launch date just yet since they are still in the research and training phases. However, the company expects that its robots can arrive on the market by 2030.

Poco C40 announced with JLQ Chinese chipset, massive 6,000mAh battery

0

Poco C40 is set to be released globally, but the phone has already been revealed in Vietnam. The most interesting thing about the device is its chipset, which comes from a rather unknown Chinese SoC maker called JLQ Technology. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the Poco C40’s specs, features, and expected price in Nepal.

Poco C40 Overview:

Design and Display

The Poco C40 features a minimal back panel and a camera bump reminiscent of the Poco M3 and M4 Pro. Although there are only two cameras here. The phone weighs 204 grams, and it measures 9.18mm in terms of thickness. Black, yellow, and green are the three available color options.

Poco C40 Design, Display, Colors

On the front, you will find a 6.7-inch LCD screen with an HD+ resolution. The screen refreshes at 60Hz and can hit a peak brightness of 400 nits.

Performance

Instead of going the long-established Qualcomm/MediaTek/Unisoc route, Poco has gone for a processor from JLQ Technology. To be more specific, it houses the octa-core JR510 chipset.

Not much is known about the chipset except that it utilizes two quad-core clusters of ARMv8-based cores clocked at 1.5GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. Although the exact performance is still a mystery, it is said to perform along the line of Snapdragon 450 and Helio G35.

The phone will boot on Android 11 out of the box. However, the listing on the Vietnamese website does not state the MIUI version of the Poco C40. It is likely that the C40 will run on Android Go-based MIUI skin.

Rest of the specs

Moving on, the Poco C40’s 6,000mAh battery is capable of charging at 18W. Despite this, it only ships with a 10W charger inside the box.

In terms of connectivity, it has dual 4G SIM support alongside dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and Type-C OTG. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and supports audio formats like FLAC, MP3, OGG, and MIDI.

Camera

Poco C40 has nothing fancy for the optics as it comes with a dual-camera setup. The primary shooter is a 13MP sensor and is supported by a 2MP depth sensor. The front notch houses a 5MP selfie shooter.

Poco C40 Specifications:

  • Display: 6.7-inch IPS LCD, 60Hz, 400 nits
  • Resolution: HD+ (720 x 1650 pixels)
  • Chipset: JLQ JR510 (Octa-core, 11nm)
  • Memory: 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (Expandable)
  • Software & UI: Android 11
  • Rear Camera: Dual
    – 13MP primary
    – 2MP depth
  • Front Camera: 5MP (water drop notch)
  • Security: Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • Battery: 6000mAh with 18W fast charging (10W charger included)

Poco C40 Price in Nepal and Availability

The sole 4/64GB variant of the Poco C40 costs VND 3,490,000 in Vietnam. This means that the phone will be priced around NPR 18,759 when it releases in Nepal. It will launch globally on June 16.
