This Motorola phone has a built-in stylus and 5G connectivity under $400

After launching the Moto G Stylus (2023) not too long ago, Motorola has now followed it up with a 5G version. And the good news is that for all the upgrades the new Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 brings, it’s actually cheaper than its predecessor. So let’s take a look at the features, specifications, and expected price in Nepal of the Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G 2023.

Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 Overview:

Display and Build

Starting with the display, Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 sports a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a Full HD resolution. This screen also has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 20:9 aspect ratio.

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G (2023) - design

Coming to the design, the phone is available in either Cosmic Black or Rose Champagne (pictured above) color options. Motorola has given a smooth finish at the back with curved edges for easy handling. Likewise, this mid-range phone has a plastic build and a “water-repellent” design. Although an official IP rating is missing.

With the stylus inside, Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 weighs around 202 grams. This pen has a smooth, glossy finish and can be used for taking notes, scrolling, or multitasking.

Performance

Under the hood, Moto Stylus 5G 2023 has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip. Fabbed under a 4nm process, it brings 35% better GPU and 40% better CPU performance over the Snapdragon 695 that powered last year’s Moto G Stylus 5G.

Moving on, the phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The cherry on top is the availability of a micro SD slot which can expand the memory to 2TB. And it runs on Android 13 with Motorola’s MyUX on top.

Cameras

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G camera

Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 features a dual camera setup on its back. Although the lack of a 2MP depth camera is good riddance coming from its predecessor, Motorola has skipped OIS support for the 50MP f/1.88 primary camera here. This is followed by an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor, which is actually pulling triple duty as a macro and a depth camera too. Likewise, you get a 16MP f/2.45 selfie camera on the front housed in a hole-punch cutout.

Battery and others

Other goodies of this Moto phone include a massive 5000mAh battery with 20W charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos audio. And Motorola ships a 20W power brick inside the box itself. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometrics.

Is Dizo by Realme TechLife really shutting down?

2

DIZO, the first brand under Realme’s TechLife ecosystem, has now been speculated for potential shutdown following CEO Abhilash Panda’s resignation. The brand is facing significant backlash in social media due to its lack of response to customer queries and the recent inability of its companion app to pair with accessories. In this article, we’ll attempt to untangle the whispers and shed light on the reasons behind these speculations.

DIZO, who?

Established in 2021, DIZO serves as the sub-brand of Realme. It offers a wide range of audio, smart home, watches, phones, and personal grooming products and has earned the trust of the stakeholders from its very first year. DIZO created a base in the market with 17 smartwatches, 13 Bluetooth audio accessories, 3 feature phones, 3 hair trimmers, and a hair dryer.

subbrand-of-Realme-DIZO

Over the past two years, DIZO’s diverse product lineup has generated a lot of talk online, as users share their thoughts and experiences, expressing both positive and negative opinions about the brand and its products.

Why is there so much opinion online?

On May 27 this year, the CEO stepped back from his position, leading everyone to suspect the forever closing of DIZO. The communication and public relation team have also reportedly exited from the brand recently. Customer service is also neglecting customer queries, causing chaos for those facing product issues. Furthermore, the service centers listed before to provide after-care service to the Dizo gadgets are also distancing themself from the brand.

Most customers complain about the Dizo companion app, on which the devices were to pair, is not functioning properly. Some have even tried to sideload the app through APK files only to encounter the server error.

Dizo: From Prominence to Potential Shutdown

DIZO has come all the way from being ranked fourth in the Indian smartwatch category in Q1 2023 with a 4.4% market share to being on the verge of shutting down completely. All the careless activities point to the DIZO being digitally off already (there are no official statements yet).

In April, Realme said they would rebrand TechLife and merge it with Narzo. If DIZO does indeed shut down, there is a possibility that it could also be merged into the Narzo brand.

You can finally use WhatsApp in multiple iPhones using Companion Mode

If you’re an iOS user, you can finally use WhatsApp’s latest features to link your existing account to multiple iPhones. Android users already had access to this feature since a month ago. WhatsApp has officially pulled Companion Mode For iOS from beta and begun rolling it out to all users.

The current WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 update has this Companion mode. And, it allows you to send and receive calls and messages from your linked iPhones while maintaining end-to-end encryption.

Linking multiple iPhones with Companion Mode

Users have to download WhatsApp and select the “Link the device to an existing account” option to link a secondary iPhone to an existing account. Users then scan a QR code generated on the secondary device using the primary device’s “Link with QR Code” option. Chat history is synced across all connected devices once linked, giving a consistent user experience. However, some features, such as creating broadcast lists and sharing status updates, are only available on the primary device.

As of now, a WhatsApp account can be connected to up to 4 devices using the Companion Mode. Each connection is independent of the other, meaning each device has its own end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp also states it will log out from the connected devices if the primary device remains inactive for a long period of time.

WhatsApp Companion Mode on iOS App

WhatsApp has already started rolling out the Companion mode, and it asks users to update their WhatsApp app to get access to this feature. If the feature isn’t visible right away, it will be available to all iOS users in the next weeks. On iOS, the Companion mode is also accessible in the WhatsApp Business app.

Additional Upgrades

Furthermore, the most recent WhatsApp update includes automated GIF playback within chats, removing the need to tap on individual messages. This improvement makes the user experience easier and enjoyable.

WhatsApp’s features continue to evolve and grow across platforms, allowing users to stay connected and enjoy superior communication experiences. iOS users can now enjoy the long-awaited Companion mode, while WhatsApp for companies is planning additional enhancements to boost operations and customer interaction.

Government of Nepal raises taxes on import of entry-level Electric Vehicles

The Government of Nepal (GoN) has just unveiled the budget for the fiscal year 2080/81 and there are a few interesting points regarding the Electric Vehicle (EV) that catches interest. The new budget brings new tax provisions for the import of EVs based on the size along with a policy to expand the network of charging stations in Nepal.

Revisions on Import Tax for EVs in Nepal

Former Finance Minister, Paudel, highlighted Nepal’s goal to replace fuel-powered light vehicles with electric vehicles by 2031. This strategic plan attempts to reduce fuel imports and the pollution they result in. However, given the excise and customs duties, it is unclear whether Nepal would embrace electric cars (EVs) entirely.

While there is a slight increase in taxes for entry-level EVs, taxes on high-end electric vehicles dropped, making them attractive and luxury options. On the positive side, custom duty and excise duty on EVs with power ranges of 101 to 300 KW has been decreased from the previous fiscal year. This decision could encourage people to switch to electric vehicles.

Let’s compare the custom and excuse duty on EVs from the previous year to this year.

EV Categories Tax Policy for FY 2080/2081 Tax Policy for FY 2079/2080
Excise Duty Customs Duty Excise Duty Customs Duty
Upto 100 KW 10% 15% 0% 10%
101-200 KW 20% 20% 30% 30%
201-300 KW 45% 40% 45% 45%
301 KW & above 60% 60% 60% 60%

Thus, with recent tax policy changes, a trend of customer preference toward luxury electric vehicles (EVs) could be on the rise. While the government formerly contrasted luxury vehicle imports, recent tax changes are reviving interest in high-end electric vehicles. The government is giving a clear message of encouragement to potential consumers by creating a more favorable environment.

The ambitious Nepalese goal to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) encountered challenges and opportunities. While excise charge on entry-level EVs has increased, indicating potential barriers to affordability, excise duty on high-end electric vehicles has decreased, drawing the idea of luxurious and eco-friendly rides.

Expansion of Charging Stations for EVs in Nepal

The Government of Nepal also announced plans to expand the network of charging stations across the country working with the private sector to encourage the use of electric cars (EVs). Indeed, the government is actively encouraging the use of EVs and paving the road for a cleaner and more sustainable transportation future.

Arm unveils its fastest CPU core, Cortex-X4, with 15% performance gain

Arm is the leading force in microprocessor technology for mobile phones, providing a wide variety of cores to meet the performance, power, and cost requirements of many application areas. It has just announced the latest TCS23 mobile computing with Cortex-X4, A720, and A520 clusters at the ongoing Computex 2023.

Arm TCS23 Compute Clusters

It’s essential to understand the latest Cortex-X4, A720, and A520’s lineage in order to fully comprehend its features and capabilities. Each successive Cortex-X family member has further improved CPU efficiency and performance while working in a low-power range. The latest Cortex cores also continue this pattern. The Cortex-X4 is the high-performance core, the Cortex-A720 is responsible for mid-range operations, and the Cortex-A520 is responsible for power efficiency.

Cortex-X4

The Cortex-X4, ARM’s fastest CPU core, provides an impressive performance boost over last year’s Cortex X3. It outperforms the competition by 15% while using the same amount of energy. Added to that, the Cortex-X4 offers a significant 40% reduction in power utilization for the same level of performance. It has a clock frequency of 3.4 GHz.

Cortex-A720

The Cortex-A720 aims to be even more efficient than its predecessors, the A715 and A710 cores. It improves efficiency by 20% over the A715, which was already 20% more efficient than the A710. They can efficiently address complicated tasks which require processing numerous threads simultaneously while using five A720 cores. The A720 has a clock speed that ranges from 2.5 to 3 GHz.

Cortex-A520

The Cortex-A520 saves space in the die by allowing two cores to share execution units. A further important objective was to reduce power usage, ultimately resulting in the A520 being 22% more efficient than the A510. This core is not meant for resource-heavy tasks but for routine background tasks. They have clock speeds ranging from 1.5 GHz to 2.0 GHz.

In actual usage, the Cortex-A520 is unable to show the same significant advancement over prior generations as the A720 and X4. Its capabilities at lower power levels are comparable to the A510.

Arm designed TCS23 to interact with the Android Virtualization Framework (AVF), which was introduced with Android 13. This framework enables the isolation of Android applications in separate sandboxes. It’s worth noting that Arm doesn’t make its own chips, instead, future silicon (produced by Arm’s licensees) will include TCS23. According to Rosinger, Arm expects some TCS23-enabled products to be ready in the market shortly afterward.

Performance and Efficiency of Cortex

Arm clients can modify the chipsets to meet their individual needs and power requirements. While the standard configuration consists of one Cortex-X4, three A720s, and four A520s cores, some may choose a different arrangement, such as 1+5+2. This decision is influenced by expected workloads and power limits. A new chipset with Cortex-X4, A720, and A520 cores in a 1+5+2 configuration achieves a 27% performance gain on Geekbench 6’s multi-threaded test. This is an improvement over the present combination of Cortex-X3, A716, and A510 CPUs (1+3+4) running at the same frequency and storage. It’s worth noting that these performance gains are achieved before taking into account the benefits of a new chip’s technological advancements.

It is crucial to note that the Cortex-X4, A720, and A520 cores do not support the prior 32-bit ARM instruction set. ARM specifically designs them for the ARMv9 instruction set. However, the Cortex-A710 core is available for firms that still require a 32-bit function.

Along with the release of new generation processor cores, Cortex-X4, A720, and A520, Arm has also unveiled its 5th generation GPUs namely, Immortalis G720, Mali G720, and Mali G620 – as its most awaited computing solutions for 2023.  This time around, Arm has brought up Deferred Vertex Shading, or DVS for the enhancement in bandwidth and power efficiency of GPU, complementing its already achieved features such as Variable Rate Shading and ray tracing.

Differences in Immortalis and Mali GPUs

At present, there are minimal distinctions between Immortalis and Mali. GPUs marketed as Immortalis in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) chipsets must include a ray-tracing unit, whereas the Mali GPU has the option to include or exclude it.

Also, Immortalis G720 can be configured with up to 16 cores with 10 being the minimum, while the Mali G720 can have between 6 and 9 cores. The more budget-friendly Mali G620 has more limited cores support of only 5.

Improvements in Immortalis G720 GPU

The Immortalis G720 stands out as the best GPU from Arm to date, offering exceptional performance, advanced features, and an efficient design.

Arm 5th Gen Mobile GPU Microarchitecture

It features new technology, as mentioned before, Deferred Vertex Shading, that effectively reduces memory access. Arm emphasizes that memory access accounts for approximately one-third of power consumption in high-end gaming. By minimizing the need for memory access, DVS achieves energy savings, prevents chip overheating, eliminates thermal limitations, and ultimately enhances performance.

The Deferred Vertex Shading Technology

This feature allows the GPU to prioritize and process the shading of vertices at a later stage called fragment shading. It allows significant advantages in terms of performance and efficiency. Using deferring vertex shading, the rendering pipeline avoids storing intermediate data in memory, reducing bandwidth usage and improving overall performance.

The DVS technology is built directly into the new Arm GPU, meaning developers do not need to make any specific adjustments to incorporate its usage. It also provides a greater advantage in ray tracing capabilities of the GPU.

While there is no idea which chipmakers will adopt the Immortalis G720 architecture, it sure is made for flagship devices. Owing to last year’s Immortalis G715 performance, the new generation GPU that has more improved technology is sure to give a bang.

Other Improvements

In addition to its optimized memory access, the Immortalis G720 showcases a 15% improvement in performance per watt, an equal rate of improvement in peak performance, and a boost in frame rate.

Arm has also added a 2x MSAA module, refining the GPU’s ability to handle the anti-aliasing of graphics. The command stream front-end (CSF), responsible for scheduling, has received enhancements with extra working registers for streaming processing.
