Last year’s pre-order total for the Galaxy S22 Series was less than 1500, but this year’s total has surpassed 2000. Motorola’s rugged phone official with two way satellite messaging

3

Motorola has launched its new rugged smartphone, the Defy. Successor to the Defy (2021), it brings two-way satellite messaging for the first time in the lineup. Alongside it, Motorola has also launched the Defy Satellite Link device. The Lenovo-owned company has partnered with Bullit Group, a British phone manufacturer to unveil these new products. Let’s get into the specs, features, and expected price of the Motorola Defy 2 and Defy Satellite Link in Nepal.

Motorola Defy 2 Rugged Smartphone:

Robust Design

No prize for guessing, the Motorola Defy 2 boasts a robust design. The phone bags a Mil-STD-810H certification like its predecessor, which proves its sturdiness and durability in extremely high and low-temperature environments, salt mist conditions, humid scenarios, vibration, and tumble tests. It can withstand extreme temperatures (-30°C/-22°F to 75°C/167°F) for up to 24 hours.

Motorola Defy 2 Design

The Defy 2 is also sand, dirt, dust, and waterproof with IP68 and IP69K ratings. The company has claimed its endurance against drops and falls, from the height of 1.8 meters. Furthermore, the device can be sanitized with cleaning alcohol or soap and water. Even, the external surface of the rugged phone is antibacterial and antimicrobial, thanks to Bullitt’s Hygiene+ technology.

Two Way Satellite Connectivity

One of the key highlights of the phone is its two-way satellite connectivity. Motorola has integrated a NTN (direct-to-device) service based on 3GPP standards into the handset to send and receive messages via satellite, making it the first commercial phone to do so.

With this, the Defy 2 will provide continuous international coverage over existing, well-established infrastructure. Surprisingly, you can use this service to send messages to any smartphone, even if their device does not support satellite connectivity. The message will be delivered to those individuals via SMS. While for reply, they need to download Bullitt Satellite Messenger app.

The messages uses Unicode encoding which includes all writing systems and the text size is limited to 140KB at max. Such satellite messages can be attached with the user’s location as well.

Motorola Defy 2 Two Way Satellite Connectivity

However, the service isn’t free! Bullit has also revealed the subscription plan for two-way satellite messaging. Beginning at $5/€5 a month, the basic plan caters to up to 30 messages. With a premium plan for $30/€30, users can send 400 messages a month.

On top of that, there is free SOS assistance for one year and 24/7 access to emergency response centers provided by FocusPoint International. The company has planned to cover Europe and North America in Q1, 2023. After that, it will expand to Australia & New Zealand, Latin America, and Africa. The rest of the regions will be covered by the end of the year, as per Bullit.

Display

The Defy 2 sports a 6.6” FHD+ display with 2408 x 1080 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The IPS LCD screen also comes with a 120Hz fast refresh rate. And the touchscreen is usable with wet hands and gloves as well. Moreover, it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and boasts a 400PPI.

Performance

Running at the core is a MediaTek Dimensity 930 5G chipset. This 6nm Octa-core SoC equips two cortex A-78 cores at 2.2GHz and six cortex A-55 cores at 2.0GHz. For graphics, there is an IMG BXM-8-256 GPU. The chip is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

Talking of the software, it still runs on Android 12 but Motorola has promised Android 13 & 14 updates. Additionally, the rugged smartphone will get 5 years of security updates and emergency SMR updates for 2 years.

Others

The phone houses a triple camera setup. There is a 50MP main lens followed by an 8MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP macro unit. On the front, you get an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Fueling this guy is a 5000mAh non-removable battery. It supports 15W wired charging and Qi charging as well. Likewise, there is a capacitive fingerprint reader on the rear side for biometrics.

Motorola Defy Satellite Link:

Alongside the rugged phone, Motorola has also unveiled Defy Satellite Link. The device, as the name implies, provides satellite connectivity and can be connected to any Android/iOS device via Bluetooth. Like the Defy 2, it also passes through MIL-STD-810H testing and is IP68 certified.

Let’s learn more about the Nokia C32 including all its features, specifications, expected price in Nepal, availability, and more.

Besides this, it is also IP52 dust/splash resistant. The phone features the same 6.5″ HD+ IPS LCD screen that you’d find on the C22. Along with the teardrop notch, bezels, and everything else. However, Nokia has moved the fingerprint reader from the back of the phone to the side rails here.

Nokia and its obsession with Unisoc chipsets; the C32 brings the same Unisoc SC9863A chip as C22. Available in up to 4GB RAM and up to 128GB eMMC 5.1 storage, the Nokia C32 runs on regular Android 13—instead of a lighter Go Edition. Vivo Y02 Review: All About the Awe-Stunning Design!

1

Budget phones under 15k are usually boring with design. Many of them share an identical design pattern which doesn’t look that attractive. But Vivo Y02 stands as an exception here. The Y02 boasts an attractive back panel and a boxy form factor. Powered by an Helio P22 chip and a single camera, can this be the ideal phone for a budget? Let’s find that out in our Vivo Y02 review article with optics, UI, battery, and overall performance.

Vivo Y02 Specifications:

  • Body: 163.99 × 75.63 × 8.49mm, 186gm
  • Display: 6.51″ LCD panel, HD+ (1600 x 720), 60Hz refresh rate
  • Chipset: MediaTek P22
  • Memory: 2GB RAM, 32GB storage (expandable)
  • Software: Funtouch OS 12 (Android 12)
  • Rear Camera: 8MP, f/2.2
  • Front Camera: 5MP, f/2.0 (waterdrop notch)
  • Battery: 5000mAh, 10W charging
  • Connectivity: Dual SIM slot, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, OTG, Micro USB 2.0
  • Color Options:  Orchid Blue, Cosmic Grey
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 12,499

Vivo Y02 Review:

Design

I found the Vivo Y02’s design to be eyecatching. The back panel although made of plastic is shiny and provides a premium tone to the design. It looks beautiful, to be honest. The single camera also looks clean with a circular module housed in a rectangular area. Moving on, it features a boxy form factor, which is great for this segment. All in all, Vivo Y02 has to be the best-looking phone under the 15k price bracket in Nepal.

Vivo Y02 Design

Display

The Y02 sports a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel. The display calibration is set at a warmer tone by default. Thankfully, the calibration is adjustable and I could set the display tone as per my preference. Talking of its quality, the contents on the screen look vibrant and sharp with a warmer calibration.

The sunlight readability is also acceptable for its price. If you are someone who binge-watches TikTok, Reels, or Youtube Shorts, the Y02’s display does its job well. Hence, the multimedia experience is decent on its screen.

VoLTE Calls

The Vivo Y02 supports VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) on Nepal Telecom SIM. For those unaware, VoLTE primarily enhances the overall voice quality by using a 4G network for cellular calls. On my usage, I found the calls to be pretty loud and clear. I tried activating VoLTE for my Ncell SIM too but the private telco doesn’t support the Y02 as of now. To note, there are a bunch of Vivo phones on Ncell’s VoLTE support list already and this one will be also added soon, hopefully.

Performance and UI

Powering the phone is a vintage chipset from 2018, the Helio P22. This entry-level chip is definitely not for gaming. I tried playing some popular titles such as PUBG and CODM and the result was as expected–Super Choppy and Laggy with major FPS drop even at the lowest settings. The SoC is not meant for such games and I then moved to lite games for giving it a fair chance. The less graphics-intensive games like Temple Run, Subway Surfer, and Hill Climb Racing are playable.

Vivo Y02 UI

The phone runs on FuntouchOS 12 based on Android 12 Go Edition. The UI looks clean and similar to stock Android but when it comes to performance, I found the experience to be quite laggy. App opening does take some time and multitasking can create stutters in the UI. This has to do with the age-old entry-level chip used in this device. It kind of ruins the experience most of the time.

Other than that, there are Go Edition apps from Google such as Gallery Go, Maps Go, Assistant Go, and so on. On top of that, Funtouch OS 12 offers basic customization such as charging animation, network speed, and so on.

Camera

Let’s get into the optics now. The phone houses a single 8MP camera on the back with no useless 2MP depth or macro unit.

Daylight Shots

The 8MP camera of the Y02 manages to capture decent-looking images under broad daylight. The color tone is on the warmer sides with higher saturation. For me, I prefer warm tones but the Y02’s output can be whelming sometimes.

Portraits

Coming to the portrait, the Y02’s results are good for the price. However, it’s not perfect and flaws can be seen around with edge detection.

Night

Let’s not expect much from an 8MP sensor for low-light images. The outputs struggle to maintain details and sharpness. I would call it average for the price tag it carries.

Front Camera

As Vivo is a selfie-centric company, even the 5MP front camera clicks decent selfies. Skin tone is usually good and the portraits are mostly social media-ready.

Battery

This guy is just 8.55mm thick but it houses a 5000mAh battery inside. Talking of its backup, it lasted for a day easily with average usage. It should even last more than a day for those lite users. However, it doesn’t support quick charging and the 10W charger takes around 3 hours to fill up the cell via its Micro USB port. No USB Type-C port here.

Vivo Y02 Review: Conclusion

Now, let’s move to the conclusion. The Vivo Y02 is a gorgeous-looking phone with an attractive design and boxy form factor. The design brings in a premium vibe in the budget segment. But the UI experience is a drawback. I know it’s a budget phone but the Helio P22 has catered to a laggy experience in both gaming and day-to-day usage scenario.

If only, Vivo used a better SoC here. Another thing to mention is its mono speaker on the top. It sounds a bit distorted when played at the max volume.

Besides that, the camera experience was pretty decent. You get good photos in daylight situations. And same goes for the selfies. The battery backup lasts for a day with moderate usage. Other than that, the phone is an ideal choice for those preferring looks over performance alongside a good camera experience.

Vivo Y02 Review: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Eye-catching Design
  • Decent Camera Performance for the Price
  • Satisfactory HD+ Screen
  • Good Battery Backup

Cons:

  • Sub Par Performance of Helio P22
  • Stuttery UI
  • Distorted Audio at max volume

Nokia C22 budget phone is here with metal frames, IP52 rating

2

Nokia has recently unveiled two smartphones in its budget “C” series, which are the Nokia C22 and C32. The former is the cheaper of the two and it comes with a big 5000mAh battery and a fairly durable build quality. Let’s see what else Nokia C22 offers, including its features, official specs, expected price in Nepal, and more.

Nokia C22 Overview:

Design and Display

Like other budget phones, the Nokia C22 also has a polycarbonate unibody construction. However, it’s not all plastic here since Nokia has used metal frames on this budget phone. On top of this, the C22 is even IP52 dust and splash resistant which is quite unusual for phones in this segment. With all this, Nokia C22 weighs 190 grams and is 8.6mm thick.

Nokia C22 - Midnight Black

Coming to the display, it features a regular 6.5″ IPS LCD screen with an HD resolution. There is a V-shaped waterdrop notch for the front camera, while you can also notice the thick bezels on all sides (especially at the bottom). Nokia also says this display has toughened glass on top for better protection against drops.

Performance

Unisoc chipsets are all Nokia has to offer in its latest phones. This one is powered by Unisoc SC9863A, which is fabricated under a 28nm process. The SC9863A has an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A55 (@1.6 GHz) and four Cortex-A55 (@1.2 GHz) cores. Then there’s the integrated IMG8322 GPU for graphics.

Nokia has complemented this with either 2/3GB RAM and 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage which can be further expanded via a dedicated SD card slot. As for software, the Nokia C22 ships with Android 13 (Go Edition) for a relatively smooth performance.

Unisoc SC9863A

Cameras

Nokia C22 has a dual camera setup at the back with a 13MP primary and a 2MP macro sensor. Up front, you get an 8MP selfie shooter. In terms of videos, its main camera record at up to 1080p 30 fps.

Others

As mentioned in the beginning, Nokia has fueled this phone with a massive 5000mAh battery. But it supports just 10W charging, which is rather slow by 2023’s standards. Anyway, Nokia claims that this phone lasts up to 3 days on a single charge. This 4G phone also has a fingerprint sensor at the back.

Nokia C22 Specifications:

  • Display: 6.5-inches IPS LCD
  • Resolution: HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels), 20:9 aspect ratio
  • Chipset: Unisoc SC9863A (28nm)
  • Memory: 2/3GB RAM, 64GB storage
  • Software & UI: Android 13 (Go Edition)
  • Rear Camera: Dual (with LED flash);
    – 13MP primary sensor, Autofocus (AF)
    – 2MP macro sensor
  • Front Camera: 8MP sensor
  • Battery: 5,000mAh with 10W charging
  • Biometrics: Physical fingerprint sensor
  • Color Options: Sand, Midnight Black

This phone is already up for sale in Europe for EUR 109 (2/64GB). We expect the price of the Nokia C22 in Nepal to be somewhere around NPR 14,999 if and when it launches here.

Nokia C02 announced with a 480p display, removable battery

1

Remember when smartphones used to come with a removable battery? Nokia is back with its latest budget smartphone, the C02, to provide a similar experience. Yes, the C02 has a removable battery, as well as a few other intriguing features. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the Nokia C02’s specifications, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal.

Nokia C02 Overview:

Design, Display

Like every other budget phone, the Nokia C02 comes with a polycarbonate build. But what’s unsettling here is its thicker profile, coming in at 10mm. Thankfully, the smartphone doesn’t weigh as much at 191 grams, and it has a nano-texture finish on the back for a comfortable grip.

Nokia C02 Design and DisplayYou can also remove the rear chassis to reveal a 3000mAh removable battery, and there’s also a slot to insert two SIM and a microSD card. The phone has managed to secure an IP52 rating as well.

On the front, you see a 5.45-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. This is a 480p (FWVGA+) display with thick bezels on top and bottom. So this is certainly not the best screen for content consumption. The Nokia C02 is available in two colors: Dark Cyan and charcoal.

Performance

In charge of things inside is an unnamed quad-core SoC from Unisoc with a clock speed of 1.4GHz. Memory options include 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The latter is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. Nokia ships the smartphone with Android 12 (Go Edition). And the brand has also promised 2 years of quarterly security updates.

Others

Nokia C02 CameraMoving on, camera hardware on the Nokia C02 includes a 5MP sensor on the back and a 2MP shooter for selfies. Other connectivity options include WiFi 4 (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.2 support.

Nokia C02 Specifications:

Tecno Spark 8C Review: Good Gaming But Not So Good UI!

2

Phones under the sub-15k bracket do not usually provide much performance for gaming. But there are a few exceptions, take Tecno Spark 8C as an example. The budget phone from Tecno packs a Unisoc T606, yes a Unisoc SoC. I was a bit reluctant about its gaming performance but I changed my mind after the usage. In this Tecno Spark 8C review article, I’ll be talking about my overall experience about the performance, display, camera, and UI of the smartphone.

Tecno Spark 8C Specifications:

  • Display: 6.6″ LCD panel, HD+ (720 x 1612 pixels)
  • Processor: Unisoc T606, 12nm
  • Memory: 3GB RAM, 64GB storage
    • Software: Android 11 Go with HiOS 7.6
  • Rear Camera: 13MP + QVGA sensor
  • Front Camera: 8MP (Waterdrop Notch)
  • Security: Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, Face Unlock
  • Battery: 5000mAh
  • Colors: Turquoise, Magnet Black, Iris Purple, Diamond Gray
  • Price in Nepal: NPR 14,990

Tecno Spark 8C Review:

Design

Following the budget language design, the Spark 8C boasts a plastic body, a plastic frame, and a glass front. Talking of the looks, I used the Turquoise color variant and it looks okay. But I’m not really fond of the “Stop At Nothing” print on the back. Still, looks are subjective and I can’t say much as it’s a budget smartphone.

Display

Moving to the display, the screen also supports a 90Hz refresh rate. If you are coming from a 60Hz display, you’ll notice a slight difference on this phone. The 90Hz feels smooth while scrolling on the UI but the case is not the same on social media apps. The experience was not that fluid and you’ll have to wait for some duration to get the 90Hz feel. After all, the UI and chipset are meant for a budget experience, so not many complaints here.

Tecno Spark 8C Display

During my usage period, I mostly used Youtube and the content-watching experience was decent on the 6.6-inch HD+ screen. The display is not too vibrant but it gets the job done for the budget, I must say. The viewing angles are good and I didn’t find color shifting at all.

Cellular Reception and VoLTE

The smartphone supports a 4G network and VoLTE (Voice Over LTE). As soon as I swapped my NTC SIM on this phone, it showed the VoLTE signal. Taking calls on VoLTE felt crisp and loud. On top of that, you can also do 4G video calling without turning on the cellular data connection.

Gaming

Let’s come to the USP of this guy. Under the hood, the Spark 8C gets a Unisoc T606 SoC based on a 12nm fabrication process. The T606 is surprisingly good for gaming, yes you heard it right. This Octa-core processor can handle PUBG at a High + High frame rate. But people would usually play on Low graphics and I did the same. The Low + high frame rate gameplay was decent for the price on PUBG.

A more optimized title like Call of Duty Mobile’s Multiplayer (MP) mode is enjoyable on this guy. I wouldn’t term it a super smooth experience but other devices in the sub-15k range will not cater to a similar experience. So, I would like to give Tecno some credit here where it’s due. Other less demanding games like Subway Surfers, Temple Run, and Hill Climb racing run without any hiccups.

UI Experience and Performance

The phone runs on HiOS 7.6 built on top of Android 11 Go Edition. As aforementioned, the gaming performance was ‘Yay’ but the UI here is kinda not there. The UI experience feels off for me with its bloatware apps and unnecessary app recommendations. There is an option to hide the recommendation thankfully. But sadly, you cannot uninstall all bloatware apps. Hence, the UI still doesn’t feel that polished and it resembles much of a cheap phone’s software.

Tecno Spark 8C UI

Talking of customizations, HiOS provides you with plenty. You can clone and freeze the apps, apply some cool themes, quick gestures, and much more. So, for those fond of customizations, Tecno Spark 8C offers you almost everything. But someone like me prefers a cleaner and polished UI.

Other than that, there are no major hiccups or lags on the UI. Also, I got small software updates from Tecno regarding bug fixes and optimization which is quite appreciable. And you can virtually expand the RAM up to 3GB.

Camera

Let’s get into the camera now. The phone technically houses a dual camera setup, led by a 13MP primary lens and a QVGA secondary unit. But the latter one doesn’t seem to do much here. Hence, the 13MP is the sole one doing its job which is fair to say.

Tecno Spark 8C Back Camera

Daylight Pictures

Under broad daylight, outputs from the Tecno Spark 8C look average most of the time. I must admit, the 13MP unit here doesn’t produce satisfactory images. The outputs lack sharpness and pictures are generally on the softer side.

Portraits

The portrait images from the Tecno Spark 8C look okay for the price. The edge detection is fine. Overall, the results are pretty decent.

Night Shots

With daylight imageries not being that decent, I found the Spark 8C’s low-light images to be the same. To note, Tecno has not provided a dedicated night mode here. And the outputs are just below average.

Front Camera

The 8MP front camera surprisingly provides decent selfies. It tries to keep the skin tone accurate with a respectable amount of detail in the outputs. Portrait shots are also very fine. You also get a front flash for low-light selfies.

Videography

The smartphone can capture videos at a max 1080p resolution at 30fps. I found the videos to be just basic and average, nothing to be fond of, to be precise. The front camera on the other hand does a good job for video calls though.

Tecno Spark 8C

Battery Life

This guy packs a 5000mAh battery with no fast charging support. The battery is long-lasting with more than a day of backup in light usage. Under medium usage with social media, content watching, and a bit of gaming, Tecno Spark 8C is good to go for a day. But I wished it came with a Type-C port and fast charging support. The 10W charger it ships with takes almost 3 hours to fill up the cell from 0-100%.

Tecno Spark 8C Review Conclusion:

To summarize, The Unisoc T606 is a capable SoC for handling moderate games smoothly. So, Tecno Spark 8C provides very good performance for gaming in a budget segment. However, I wouldn’t say the same about the UI and camera. The UI has tons of customization options, but it just doesn’t seem polished and clean. And the camera performance is also just basic and needs improvements.

The display is decent for the price and it catered to my content-watching needs. The mono speaker is loud for indoor usage too. Another thing to mention is its fingerprint scanner on the rear side which is snappy enough.

So, for whom is the Tecno Spark 8C? If you are primarily looking for some gaming under 15K, you can give it consideration. But do note that, the UI and camera are not that great. Apart from that, there is not much to complain about.

Tecno Spark 8C Review: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Decent Gaming for the price
  • Good battery life
  • Customizations of HiOS
  • Decent Selfies

Cons:

  • Bloatware and Unnecessary Apps Recommendations
  • Average Back Camera Performance

Honor X7a Review: Premium Design, Excellent Battery Life on a budget

I have been using the Honor X7a for a couple of weeks now. And in this review, I’ll be talking about my experience with this smartphone. It retails at Rs. 22,900 in Nepal for the single 6/128GB variant. And, for the price, its specifications don’t look particularly inspiring. Honor X7a Review:

Design

  • 167.48 x 76.85 x 8.27mm; 196 grams
  • Glass front, Plastic back/frames

Let’s start the review with the design. And it’s pretty much what we’re used to seeing on a budget phone—plastic back with plastic frames. So yeah, it certainly lags behind in terms of premium feel when compared to a glass-back phone. But the X7a looks quite appealing for a budget smartphone.

I have the Titanium Silver color variant with me, which has a gradient effect on the back. While you can choose it in Ocean Blue and Midnight Black options as well. In terms of in-hand feel, the smartphone has a noticeable heft to it. It is primarily due to the 6000mAh battery housed within the chassis.

Nonetheless, Honor has managed to keep the size and weight at a manageable 8.6mm and 196 grams, respectively. And the weight distribution is also quite good, so I haven’t had any problems using the phone for a long period of time. There are also slight curves on the back that aid in achieving a comfortable grip.

Display

  • 6.75-inches IPS LCD
  • 90Hz refresh rate

My only complaint about this design is that the company should have spared the U-shaped notch in favor of a more contemporary punch-hole cutout. Regardless, the screen here isn’t particularly exciting either. While it is large at 6.75 inches, Honor has given an HD+ resolution here.

As a result, you will notice a lack of sharpness while watching content right away. This is quite disappointing, especially considering brands like Poco and Realme have been easily offering a Full HD+ resolution at this price range.

Meanwhile, the color calibration of this screen is generally good, as the colors don’t look that dull or muted here. Its brightness is also adequate enough. Most importantly, you don’t have to rush around looking for a shady spot to take calls or read messages under direct sunlight.

Helio G37

  • Octa-core MediaTek Helio G37 SoC (12nm)
  • 6GB RAM, 128GB storage (expandable)
  • Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12

The display also supports a refresh rate of 90Hz. However, I did not experience the fluidity and responsiveness of a higher refresh rate in my usage. It’s because Honor has paired an inferior MediaTek Helio G37 chip with a full-fledged Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12 OS.

MagicUI 6.1

As a result, animations feel relatively slow even in everyday use. Instead, the company should have opted for an Android Go Edition custom skin, which would have provided a far superior day-to-day experience.

I would recommend lowering the animations in the developer options for a comparatively smoother experience.

Additionally, although gaming is not what this chip is designed for, you can still play casual games like Candy Crush and Subway Surfer. In relatively demanding games like PUBG and Apex Legends, you won’t get more than 25fps, that too with frequent frame drops and stutters.

Impressive Battery

  • 6000mAh battery
  • 22.5W wired charging

Honor has equipped this phone with a 6000mAh battery. And I found the battery backup to be excellent! DXOMark claims that its battery can last up to 3 days and 14 hours on a single charge.

honor x7a battery

In my use case scenario, I was also getting three days of backup in a normal use case, which was very impressive. You get a 22.5W charger in the box, which will charge this phone to 50% in 50 minutes. While juicing it up to 100% takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Camera

  • Quad camera setup at the back
  • (50MP main, 5MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, 2MP depth)
  • 8MP selfie (u-shaped notch)

Let’s talk about cameras now. There is a 50MP primary, a 5MP ultrawide, and a couple of 2MP depth and macro cameras on the back. And for selfies, you get an 8MP camera.

Normal

I took a lot of photos with this phone and one thing that’s clear is that there are much better options in this price range.

In daytime scenarios, you can see that it struggles with shadows and black levels, and photos are washed out too. The lack of saturation in photos and videos will be noticeable. Although ultrawide lenses manage color and contrast better than standard lenses, they cannot provide better detail.

Portraits

In terms of portraits, the edge detection and highlight controls are a bit of a miss.

Selfies

Selfies are also average, but slightly better than the back camera.

Nighttime

Besides that, there is no dedicated night mode in the camera. So, in well-lit conditions, the phone cannot manage exposures and flares, whereas in low-light situations, details and brightness in photos do not come as expected.

Videos

As for the videos, the phone only allows to shoot 1080p/30fps videos from both the front and rear cameras, and they aren’t particularly impressive. Videos taken with the back camera appear washed out and have unnatural sharpness. While selfie videos struggle to manage exposure.

Audio and Haptics

  • Single speaker
  • 3.5mm head

Finally, talking about the audio, Honor has provided a single bottom-firing speaker that is sufficiently loud. Obviously, it is not as good as a stereo speaker setup, but it gets the job done. I am not impressed with its haptics either. To compare, the Poco M5 has a much better haptic response.

Honor X7a Review: Conclusion

That’s it for my review of the Honor X7a. While the phone has an impressive battery life and a nice design, it simply does not offer much else. So, all things considered, I believe Honor could have done a much better job with the X7a. So this isn’t the best you can get for the money. You can find much better options like the Poco M5, Moto G31, or Redmi Note 11 from last year.

Honor X7a Review: Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Attractive design
  • Relatively lightweight design
  • Impressive battery backup

Cons:

  • Below average performance
  • Average Cameras
  • Single speaker
  • Laggy UI
