After the launch of Gionee M100 last year, the company has launched yet another smartphone in Nepal. This time, it’s the Gionee M12. Here, we will be discussing the full specifications and key features of the Gionee M12, along with its official price in Nepal.
Gionee M12 Overview:
Design and Display
The phone is built around a 6.55-inch panel with an HD+ resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. It has a left-aligned punch-hole cutout that contributes to the 91% screen-to-body ratio. Gionee M12 comes in a 3D curved body. Users can choose between two color options – Black and Green.
Performance and Memory
The variant of the Gionee M12 that has arrived in Nepal is powered by Helio P22. There is also a Helio A25-powered option but that is yet not available in Nepal. Here, seeing P22 in action is quite disappointing as you can easily get the other phones with the newer and more powerful Helio G-series chipsets in the same price segment.
As for the memory, the M12 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The latter can is expandable up to 256GB using an external MicroSD card.
The quad-camera setup at the back consists of a 48MP primary camera. Gionee has opted for the ISOCELL GM1 sensor with f/1.79 aperture. There is a 5MP ultrawide sensor with a 115-degree Field of View. The two are joined by two additional sensors for macro and portrait shots. There is a 16MP selfie shooter up front in the aforementioned punch-hole cutout.
Rest of the specs
Gionee M12 is powered by a large 5,100mAh battery with support for 10W charging. There is a physical fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone. It ships with Android 10 out-of-the-box.
Gionee M12 Specifications:
Display: 6.55-inches HD+ panel, 720 x 1600 pixels
Chipset: MediaTek Helio P22 (12nm)
Memory: 6GB RAM, 128GB storage (expandable up to 256GB)
The price of Gionee M12 in Nepal is NPR 24,999, which doesn’t make sense given the market competition. Once a big player in Nepal, Gionee needs to adopt more aggressive pricing if it wants to relive its past glory. We don’t see Gionee M12 getting much success when devices like Redmi Note 10 are available at a similar price.

Since its inception in 2019, MediaTek’s Helio G series chipsets have been a popular choice in budget and lower-midrange smartphones. Yesterday, MediaTek announced two new silicons in this lineup—Helio G96 and Helio G88.
MediaTek Helio G96 Overview:
Here, the Helio G96 builds on the specs of last year’s Helio G95. It has the same core configuration with 2x Cortex-A76 and 6x Cortex-A55 CPU cores. Interestingly, MediaTek has downgraded the GPU from Mali G76 to Mali G57. The new GPU has half the core count of the G76.
On the other hand, the chipset supports LPDDR4X RAM @ 2133 MHz and UFS 2.2 storage. The latter is an upgrade over G95’s UFS 2.1.
Moving on, Helio G96 has support for up to 108MP cameras, which is gaining popularity in the mid-range segment. Other camera features include dual-camera bokeh capture, Camera Control Unit (CCU), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and Rolling Shutter Compensation. Video recording capability is still capped at 4K/30fps.
Over on the display, it supports up to 120Hz refresh rate on an FHD+ panel. Other features include Cat 13 LTE connection and Bluetooth 5.2.
Moving on, the Helio G88 retains the CPU core configuration of its predecessor (Helio G85) as well. It features 2x Cortex-A75 and 6x Cortex-A55 cores. The Mali G52 MC2 is also left untouched.
The only notable difference lies in the display and camera departments. This processor supports up to 64MP cameras—up from 48MP on the G85. Similarly, Helio G88-powered phone will support a 90Hz refresh rate on an FHD+ panel, which is not possible on G85.

Valve has announced its first Nintendo Switch-like handheld gaming console, called the Steam Deck. It lets you play your favorites Steam games on the go. So, let’s get into the specs, features, availability, and expected price of Valve Steam Deck in Nepal.
Valve Steam Deck Overview:
If you’re unaware, Valve is a video-game developer company that also has its hands in the hardware business. It is behind the popular titles like Dota 2, CS: GO, and others.
Design and Display
Here, the Steam Deck is similar to the Nintendo Switch (or Switch OLED) in that it is a handheld gaming machine with full-sized controllers. It also has a detachable dock that allows you to easily connect it to an external monitor.
Steam Deck features a 7-inch optically bonded LCD screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, 400 nits brightness, and an ambient light sensor. This handheld gaming PC measures 298mm x 117mm x 49mm and weighs 669 grams.
As per its specifications, it is more than a simple game console—it’s a portable PC. Powering the device is an AMD APU with Zen 2-based 4C/8T CPU that has a max turbo frequency of 3.5GHz. On the GPU front, it features octa-core Radeon graphics based on RDNA 2 architecture. Valve says this APU has a configurable TDP between 4 – 15W.
Memory-wise, it comes with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and three storage options to choose from. The base variant has 64GB eMMC (PCIe Gen 2 x1), 256GB NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4), 512GB high-speed NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen 3 x4). There’s also a micro SD card slot to expand the storage.
However, the company has confirmed that despite the difference in storage protocols, “there is no in-game difference in frame rates or graphics quality”. In terms of software, the Deck boots on Arch-based SteamOS 3.0. You can even install Windows on the Steam Deck if you’d like.
Controls
Furthermore, this handheld gaming PC is crammed with all the controls you’d expect to see on a console. It has A, B, X, and Y buttons, as well as a D-pad, L and R analog triggers and bumpers, View and Menu buttons, and four assignable grip buttons.
Similarly, there are two 32.5mm square trackpads on the left and right. When compared to the Steam Controller, these trackpads offer 55% lower latency. For easier control, it includes a 6-axis IMU gyroscope too.
On the wireless connectivity front, it utilizes Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band WiFi (ca). Unlike the Nintendo Switch, it supports Bluetooth audio as well. Additionally, there’s a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort 1.4 support that is capable of transferring up to 8K videos at 60Hz.
Rest of the specs
Besides all of this, the console boasts a stereo speaker setup with a dual-microphone array and stereo 3.5mm headphone jacks. Likewise, with 40Whr of battery, Valve promises up to 8 hours of gameplay (depending on the game).
A dock sold separately
Steam Deck, like the Nintendo Switch, has a dock that lets you connect it to your computer or monitor. This USB Dock provides Display Port, HDMI 2.0, an Ethernet adapter, and three USB (2x USB-A 2.0, 1x USB-A 3.1) inputs. As expected, you’ll have to buy it separately although Valve hasn’t confirmed the price just yet.
Valve Steam Deck Specifications:
Body: 11.7 x 4.6 x 1.8-inches, 669 grams
Display: 7-inches diagonal, 1280 x 800 (16:10), 60Hz LCD touchscreen

Vivo S10 and S10 Pro Overview:
Design and Display
Here, the Vivo S10 and S10 Pro are similar in a lot of aspects, including their design and display. Both come with a 6.44″ flat Super AMOLED panel which supports a 90Hz refresh rate. Vivo S10 series has a bathtub-like notch which is quite rare in Android phones these days. There is an optical fingerprint scanner underneath the screen.
The thickness and weight of these phones vary according to the color variant. The gradient version is the heaviest and the thickest at 175 grams and 7.43mm, respectively. Vivo has used a photochromic material for the back. Thus, these phones will reflect differently depending on how light strikes their surface.
Performance and Memory
Under the hood, Vivo S10 and S10 Pro pack MediaTek’s Dimensity 1100 SoC. It’s a high-end chipset based on TSMC’s 6nm process. It features four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 CPU cores. For 5G, it integrates the Helio M70 modem (only sub-6GHz). Memory-wise, you can choose from 8/12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage here.
Here, the S10 Pro differs from the vanilla model in one major way, which is the 108MP ISOCELL HM2 camera. This 1/1.52″ sensor uses nona-binning to capture 12MP native shots. On the other hand, the standard Vivo S10 features a 64MP primary shooter instead. Other than this, both phones share an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor.
Upfront, the S10 series has a dual-camera setup with a 44MP main selfie camera. Accompanying it is an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The front cameras are equipped with a dual-LED flash as well.

Researchers at the University of California have developed a tiny sweat-powered wearable device that can use the sweat of the wearer to produce electricity. Though its capacity is limited for now, researchers believe they can scale the technology to a point where it can power a smartphone.
Sweat-powered Wearable Overview:
This sweat-powered wearable resembles a Band-Aid. It comes in the form of a thin and flexible strip that you can wrap around your fingertip.
Passive energy generation
Unlike other similar power-generating wearables, this doesn’t require active user participation. It can produce electricity when the wearer is passive as well. Even when the wearer is asleep, the device won’t stop generating electricity.

In addition, it can also generate power from physical activities that involve finger pressing, such as typing, playing piano, and tapping Morse code.
Here, the carbon foam electrodes in the device absorb the user’s sweat. The enzymes present in the electrode initiates a chemical reaction between the lactate and oxygen molecules of human sweat to produce electricity.
In addition, there is a piezoelectric material that produces electricity separately when pressed. The electricity produced this way is stored in a small capacitor and discharged when necessary.
Why fingertips?
Here, fingertips are among the sweatiest parts of the human body. Each fingertip has over a thousand sweat glands. They result in sweat volume that is 100 to 1000 times bigger than any other body part. However, we rarely feel the sweat on our fingers as they are always exposed to air.
Present Scale
At its current state, the sweat-powered wearable can generate up to 400 millijoules of energy from ten hours of sleep. Researchers believe it can power a smartwatch for 24 hours. However, it is the production capacity from a single fingertip. Applying it over all ten fingers will produce 10 times the energy. In the initial test, it has powered a display-equipped Vitamin C indicator.
