ICT Award 2021 opens online nominations for 11 diverse categories

The sixth edition of the ICT Award is here to honor innovations in Nepal’s ICT sector. The nomination process is now online because of the ongoing lockdown. Here, we will be discussing the nomination process, award categories, and eligibility criteria for ICT Award 2021.

ICT Award at a glance

ICT Award is among the biggest tech award in the country, which is hosted every year by “Living with ICT“. It has been around since 2016 and has honored over 50 awardees so far.

Last year’s campaign was a successful one, with over 400 applications. Though several events had to be canceled due to the pandemic, the winners were later honored at a separate event.

ICT Award 2021: Overview

As mentioned earlier, it is the sixth edition of the ceremony. There are 11 different awards categories, including two new ones. The decision to open nominees came after the recent decline in the number of COVID infections in Nepal.

Nomination process

The nomination process for ICT Award 2021 is already live. The forms are available from ICT Award’s official site. Interested individuals and organizations can apply for the relevant category till 16th Shrawan (30th June).

The awards can be roughly categorized into three groups. The first group is for innovations and startups while the second is for individuals. Finally, we have awards for private and government organizations.

Selection process

Moving on, candidates will be analyzed by a jury of twelve members. For the first group, there will be three rounds of selections in three months. This will be followed by public voting for the top five candidates. Other categories will have to go through four rounds of selection and a field visit.

In addition to the honors, winners will get different services and facilities according to their category. For instance, winners of the first group will get loans and investment opportunities.

Poco M3 gets a little more expensive in Nepal with the latest price revision

A year after its initial launch in Nepal, Poco has increased the starting price of the M3. So. let’s check out the specs, features, official price, and availability of the Poco M3 in Nepal.

Poco M3 Overview:

To note, the Poco M3 is pretty much the exact same phone as the Redmi 9 Power or Redmi 9T. Besides a different design, the Poco M3 doesn’t have an ultrawide lens, unlike its two Redmi siblings. With that out of the way,

Design and Display

Anyway, Poco M3 sports a 6.53-inch Dot Display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection. It’s an FHD+ panel with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. According to the company, the display covers 70% of the NTSC color gamut and has a contrast ratio of 1500:1.

Moreover, it has TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification. There’s also Widevine L1 certification for HD+ streaming on your favorite streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.

Poco M3 Design

The design of the Poco M3 makes it stand out among its competition. It comes with a rectangular camera module which is enclosed by a larger rectangle with the Poco logo engraved. This gives the device its distinctive look. Poco says that the camera bump measures less than 1mm. The rest of the panel has an anti-fingerprint texture.

Performance and Memory

Poco M3 comes with Snapdragon 662 SoC. It is based on Qualcomm’s 11nm process and features eight Kryo 260 CPU cores with a clock speed of up to 2GHz. It is paired with Adreno 610 GPU.

The device comes with 4 or 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, while users can choose between 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Here, the 64GB option is based on UFS 2.1 technology, whereas you will get the faster UFS 2.2 on the 128GB variant. Poco M3 boots with MIUI 12 for Poco based on Android 11 out-of-the-box.

Camera

Talking about the cameras, there are three sensors in the rear panel and one in the front. The primary camera has been bumped to 48MP from 16MP on the Poco M2. The primary camera has a 1/2” sensor and an aperture of f/1.79. It is accompanied by a 2MP macro lens and another 2MP sensor for the portrait sensor.

Unfortunately, Poco decided to ditch the ultra-wide sensor that was on the M2. Similarly, the macro sensor has been downgraded from 5MP to 2MP.

In terms of videos, the rear camera is capable of recording up to 1080p footage at 30fps and slow-motion videos at 120fps. On the front, there is an 8MP front camera with an AI Beauty feature.

Poco claims that the battery on this device can be charged up to 1,000 times and that its life span is 25% longer than normal smartphones.

Almost three months after the initial launch, the Vivo V21 family has a new member. The Vivo V21e 5G is finally official in the Indian market. In this post, we will discuss the key specs of the Vivo V21e 5G, along with its expected price in Nepal.

Vivo V21e 5G Overview:

Design and Overview

It’s hard to distinguish the Vivo V21e 5G from its 4G counterpart from the front. V21e 5G features the same 6.44-inch AMOLED panel. It also retains the waterdrop notch, which doesn’t quite align with the “Most Stylish 5G” tag that Vivo has given to the phone. In addition, the company has also dropped the HDR support and higher refresh rate here.

At the back, the left-aligned camera bump features two sensors instead of three. The phone is available in two colors – Sunset Jazz and Dark Pearl. V21e 5G has a 3D curved design. The Dark Pearl variant is thinner and weighs less in comparison to Sunset Jazz.

Performance and Memory

The biggest change that V21e 5G brings is on the inside. Under the hood, the phone packs Dimensity 700 chipset. Based on TSMC’s 7nm process, this SoC features 2x Cortex-A76 and 6x Cortex-A55 CPU cores. Here, the Cortex-A76 cores have a higher frequency than those on the Snapdragon 720G, which powers the standard V21e. In addition, Dimensity 700 has a built-in 5G modem with support for dual 5G standby.

As for memory, the phone is available in a single configuration with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The system can fork in an additional 3GB of memory using the extended RAM feature.

Camera

Vivo V21e 5G features only two cameras at the back. Fortunately, the company has skipped a 2MP macro camera here. The rest of the rear camera sensors has remained untouched.

Vivo V21e 5G features a 64MP primary sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera. On the front, the selfie camera has been downgraded from 44MP to 32MP. However, unlike the rear camera, it still retains OIS.

To begin with, all of the internals of this laptop is protected by a thin, lightweight carbon fiber body. It has a 16-inch IPS display with two resolutions to choose from: QHD+ (2,560 x 1,600) and UHD+ (3,840 x 2,400).

Benco has launched a new smartphone in the Nepali market. The new Benco V60 features an octa-core 4G processor, runs on the latest Android 11 software, and packs a dual-camera setup. Let’s take a look at the specifications, features, official price in Nepal, and availability of the Benco V60.

Benco V60 Overview:

Design and Display

Benco V60 looks no different than other budget offerings from the company. It has a 6.1-inch IPS screen with an HD+ resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels. The display features a waterdrop notch on top for the selfie camera. Thick bezels surround the screen, especially at the chin.

This polycarbonate body measures 9.4mm in thickness and weighs 170.8 grams. There are two colors to choose from – Blue and Greenish Silver.

JioPhone Next announced: An ultra-affordable 4G smartphone co-developed with Google

Jio, an India-based telco backed by Mukesh Ambani, announced JioPhone Next during Reliance Industries’ 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM). The phone was developed in collaboration with Google and runs an optimized version of Android. And according to the company, JioPhone Next will be “the most affordable smartphone not just in India, but globally.”

Let’s start with the phone’s design. It includes large bezels around the display, a simple plastic back with a single camera, and the Jio logo in the middle. Mukesh Ambani claims that JioPhone Next would be an “ultra-affordable 4G smartphone.” So, the firm must make a compromise in terms of design.

Furthermore, based on the image, the screen size appears to be around 5-inches. For a compact phone on a budget, that shouldn’t pose a problem.

Collab with Google

Aside from the design, JioPhone Next comes with some interesting features. Co-developed by Google and Jio, It will be “powered by extremely optimized Android,” with features such as a voice assistant, text-to-speech capabilities, language translation, and more.

Furthermore, Google claims that the phone will “get the latest Android feature and security updates”. Similar to Pixel phones, it will also get “Feature Drops” on a timely basis.

JioPhone Next Features

The search giant claims that the camera will offer great photo and video quality. It will take clearer photographs at night and in low-light conditions, and even support HDR, which will provide a greater color and dynamic range. They’ve teamed up with Snapchat to bring India-specific Snapchat Lenses right into the camera.

Moving on, Google Cloud and Jio have collaborated to deliver 5G in enterprise and consumer markets in India. The latter will move the majority of its core businesses to Google Cloud.

The collaboration would aid in the delivery of faster 5G connectivity in the country. Similarly, Google Cloud AI/ML, data and analytics, and other cloud-native technologies will help Jio to bring new services in the gaming, healthcare, education, and entertainment sector.

JioPhone Next Price and Availability

JioPhone Next will likely be offered in two colorways—blue and black—when it goes on sale in India on September 10th. The device will also be available in foreign markets. However, no particular worldwide launch date has been announced yet.

Let’s start with the whereabouts thing. MOVETIME Family Watch 2 utilizes real-time geolocation data to log a complete location history of the wearer. Parents can access this data from the companion app (Android | iOS). In addition, they can use the geofencing feature to get notified whenever the wearer moves out of a pre-determined safe zone.

4G Connectivity

The watch features a Nano SIM card slot for network connectivity. It facilitates 4G voice calls, text messaging, and even video calls. There is a 2MP camera for the latter. In addition, TCL has included a touch SOS call button that children can use in case of an emergency.

This time around, TCL has increased the screen size to 1.54-inch. However, it is yet to mention the type of panel used. The watch has a bulky case with a dual-tone finish on top. Lenovo just made a wireless charging kit for laptop—and a bunch of accessories

Lenovo Go is a new range of productivity-focused accessories introduced by the company last month. There were just two items announced at the time, but now, it includes a slew of new accessories—the most intriguing of which is the Lenovo Go Wireless Charging Kit.

Power

USB-C Wireless Charging Kit

Lenovo Go USB-C Wireless Charging Kit is the most intriguing product of the Go lineup yet, at least to us. It eliminates the need to separate and reattach a power cord, allowing for frequent mobility between the workstation and other areas.

It’s called a kit since it comes in several pieces. This consists of a plain rubber strip with two POGO pins and a Type-C connector. The strip is connected to the bottom of the notebook which sends power to the laptop via a Type-C port.

Moreover, the length of the charging strip limits it to 13″ and 14″ laptops. It has a power output of 65W, which is typical for Ultrabooks and non-gaming or workstation laptops. The wireless charging kit will be available in October.

Wireless Mobile Power Bank

A new Wireless Mobile Power Bank with a capacity of 10,000mAh and a 20,000mAh USB-C Laptop Power Bank round out the power portfolio. The former can charge your phone wirelessly with a 30W output, while the latter has a 65W output for laptops.

Moving on, Lenovo has added two new mouse to its Go range of accessories. Let’s first talk about the Lenovo Go USB-C Wireless Mouse. It provides point-and-click capabilities in a lightweight, travel-friendly form factor.

Its rechargeable battery lasts up to three months, and the precise blue optical sensor works on nearly any surface. Users have more control thanks to a programmable utility button and customizable DPI sensitivity.

Next up is Lenovo Go Wireless Vertical Mouse, which features an optimized angle and curvature, as well as a comfortable “handshake” posture. The design decreases wrist pressure and forearm strain. It is made of a comfortable cork material that is easy to clean.

The USB-C Wireless Mouse and Wireless Vertical Mouse are coming in July and August, respectively.

Wireless Keyboards

Similarly, another oddball item is the Wireless Split Keyboard, which is meant to provide a better palm rest. Realme launches Narzo 30 5G with a 90Hz display and Dimensity 700

At an online event held today, Realme launched the Narzo 30 5G in India alongside the 4G variant. So, let’s go through the specifications, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal of the Realme Narzo 30 5G.

Realme Narzo 30 5G Overview:

Design and Display

Starting with the design, Narzo 30 5G is no different from the standard Narzo 30. It has a similar racetrack-inspired Chevron stripe which runs from the rectangular camera bump. On the front, it boasts a 6.5-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate.

You get a left-aligned punch-hole cutout that houses the selfie camera. The panel has a screen-to-body ratio of 90.5% and can reach a peak brightness of 600 nits. Narzo 30 5G is available in two color options – Racing Blue and Racing Silver.

Performance

Powering the device is the Dimensity 700 5G chipset which is manufactured in 7nm process technology. It features an octa-core processor with 2x Cortex-A76 (@2.2GHz) and 6x Cortex-A55 (@2.0GHz) CPU cores. Moreover, the graphics department is handled by Arm’s Mali-G57 GPU. Narzo 30 5G arrives with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage which is expandable up to 1TB. 

Camera

Over on the optics, you get a triple camera arrangement at the back. This includes a 48MP primary, a 2MP portrait, and a 2MP macro sensor. Similarly, a 16MP lens is housed inside the punch-hole cutout for selfies and video calls. Here, the video recording is complemented by UIS stabilization and you can shoot up to 1080p@30fps footages.

Rest of the specs

Aside from this, Realme Narzo 30 5G packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. For biometrics, it has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a software-based face unlock. The phone boots on Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. Likewise, for connectivity, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1

Realme Narzo 30 5G will go on sale in India from June 30 where its price INR 15,999 for the sole 6/128GB variant. The company is yet to bring its Narzo range of devices to Nepal. However, if Realme launches Narzo 30 5G in Nepal, we expect its price to be around NPR 30,000.
