Nokia offers a wide range of smartphones and feature phones in the Nepali market. However, the company has not released any of its accessories here. Until now. That’s because Nokia has introduced two new audio products in Nepal—the Nokia Wireless Speaker SP-101 and the Essential Wireless Headphones E1200. Nokia Wireless Speaker SP-101:

Starting with the design, it is a portable mini speaker size of a donut. The upper half of the speaker is covered with fabric while the lower half is made of plastic. Moreover, there’s a black strap that is attached to the speaker, making it convenient to carry around and latch on to hooks. 

In terms of controls, there are volume keys, a power button, and a play/pause button all located on the bottom half of the speaker. Although the device doesn’t hold an official IP rating, the charging port has a flap to cover it against dust and water. In addition, the speakers house a built-in microphone that allows you to connect the device with your smartphone. Furthermore, the speaker allows connecting two speakers for a stereo audio output.

Yatri Motorcycles has finally opened the pre-order for the much-anticipated Project Zero (P0) electric motorcycle. The bike gained a lot of attention last year as a futuristic electric bike designed and developed by a Nepali team. Let’s take a look at Yatri Project Zero (P0) in more detail, including its specs, pre-order details, and official price in Nepal.

Yatri Project Zero (P0) Overview:

Project Zero takes its inspiration from the “Café Racer” series of bikes but with a clean and modern design language. The motorcycle is built on a Chromoly Steel Trellis frame and weighs 190 kg.

Providing power to P0 is its 8kWh Lithium-Nickel-Manganese battery. Thanks to this, the P0 can go up to 230 km in a single charge. Also, it has been complemented with protective circuitry and algorithms that prioritize power efficiency and battery lifespan.

Xiaomi has launched a bunch of smartphones today for the Indian market including the “new” Mi 11X series and the Mi 11 Ultra. The standard Mi 11X is actually a rebranded Redmi K40 that was launched a few months ago in the Chinese market. In this post, we will be taking a look at the specs, features, expected price, and availability of the Xiaomi Mi 11X in Nepal.

Xiaomi Mi 11X Overview:

Design and Display

Mi 11X comes with a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED panel from Samsung. The panel boasts a peak brightness level of up to 1300 nits. Similarly, the display also supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+ content. The device comes with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz three-finger touch sampling rate.

Both the front and the back of the device are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The phone is 7.8mm thick and weighs around 196 grams. The device also has an IP53 rating against dust and spraying water.

Performance and Memory

Mi 11X is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. This is basically last year’s Snapdragon 865/865+ but with the Prime core clocked higher. It is now clocked at 3.2GHz in the Snapdragon 870. The device is available in two RAM variants – 6/8GB. Similarly, users can choose between 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. Xiaomi has used LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 protocol for the RAM and internal storage, respectively.

Similarly, slow-motion videos max out at 1080p/960fps.

Realme launches three budget-oriented 5G devices under the Q3 lineup

Realme has launched three new devices under the Q3 lineup in China. In this post, we will be taking a look at the specs, features, expected price, and availability of Realme Q3 5G, Q3 Pro 5G, and Q3i 5G in Nepal.

Realme Q3 5G Overview:

Starting with the Realme Q3 5G, it sports a 6.5-inch LCD display with an FHD+ resolution. The panel boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 180Hz. The peak brightness here is 600 nits and there are altogether 4096 different brightness adjustment levels.

It is powered by Snapdragon 750G. It’s a 5G chipset based on an 8nm process and clock speed of up to 2.2GHz. The graphics are handled by Adreno 619. The phone is available in 6 and 8GB of RAM variants, both of which come with 128GB of internal storage.

Realme Q3 5G

The triple camera setup at the back consists of a 48MP primary, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. The setup is capable of recording 4K/30fps videos. On the front, the 16MP selfie camera can shoot 1080p/30fps videos.

The phone comes with a 5,000mAh battery and has support for 30W fast charging. It ships with Android 11 with Realme UI 2.0 on top.

The camera setup looks similar here to the regular Q3 except that the ultrawide sensor has been swapped for a 2MP monochrome sensor instead. The battery size also remains the same but the charging speed has been reduced to just 18W.

The phone arrives with 8GB of RAM and you can pair it with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

At the back, the primary camera has been bumped to 64MP. The rest of the camera setup is identical to the Q3 5G including the 16MP front camera. The rear camera is now capable of shooting 4K 60fps videos.

Apple targeted in $50 million ransomware attack by Russian hackers

Apple hosted its Spring Loaded event a couple of days ago, where it launched new iPad Pros, an upgraded iMac, an updated Apple 4K TV, and the long-awaited AirTag. Following the launch, Russian hackers targeted Quanta Computer, a Taiwanese corporation that assembles official Apple products based on pre-supplied product designs and schematics. After breaching Quanta Computer, the hackers have access to Apple product data. Let’s take a closer look at the ransomware attack on an Apple supplier.

The Record was the first to report the breach. REvil (a Russian hacker group) is the one to hack the servers. According to The Record, the operators of the REvil ransomware are insisting Quanta pay a ransom amount. Otherwise, they threaten to leak all confidential information on the dark web.

According to the REvil gang, Quanta declined to pay to recover its stolen data. As a result, they have decided to threaten the company’s primary client. Quanta Computer manages a wide range of global products, including HP, Dell, Microsoft, Toshiba, LG, Lenovo, and several others. To be clear, the hacker group has access to Apple’s existing and potential products’ schematics.

The demand

The group reportedly requested $50 million in order to keep the schematics private. After Quanta opted not to pay the ransomware money, the group began publishing the stolen photos on April 20, which coincided with the Apple spring load event for maximum exposure.

REvil is now directly targeting Apple, attempting to get the tech giant to pay up by May 1; and threatens to post new images from the leak every day until then. Moreover, Quanta has made the confirmation on its servers being breached. Although Apple has yet to reply, the leaked picture contains schematics for MacBooks. The leaked image isn’t much sensitive and only contains the data related to assembly information and technical specifications.

Instagram launches DM filter against hate speech and bullying

Instagram is one of the world’s largest social media platforms. And that accomplishment doesn’t come with its fair share of those who abuse the platform. As is well known, the company deals with accusations of hate speech and bullying, and they are regularly introducing new features to control it. Instagram has again devised a way to regulate it by filtering all messages that you believe are inappropriate. So, let’s take a closer look at the latest Instagram abusive DM filter functionality.

Instagram DM Filter Overview:

The new update is intended to protect users from abusive direct messages (DMs). Instagram will soon roll out the filters for DMs, which allows users to personalize their DMs by hiding abusive terms. Then, Instagram will hide all of these messages from the DMs of users.

Instagram also shared in a blog that they’ve worked with leading anti-discrimination and anti-bullying organizations to create a predefined list of derogatory words that will be filtered from DM requests when the feature is activated. The new DM request filter would work similarly to the existing comment filters.

Instagram permanent user block feature

The next step here is to permanently block the user. This makes it more difficult for someone to contact you again through a new account. If you wish to block someone on Instagram, then this feature allows you to preemptively block new accounts that an individual can create.

How does it work?

This feature will allow users to choose a list of words, phrases, or emojis that they want to filter out of DM requests. Instagram adds that the filtering of all messages is done on your own device. It ensures that no message material can be sent back to their servers. The content of a DM request isn’t shared till you report a specific account.

Instagram will begin rolling out the function in a few countries over the next few weeks, with plans to extend to more countries over the next few months. For those who want to use the function, go to Settings > Privacy > Hidden Words, after the service is available in your region.

The Oppo launch sequence never ends. Oppo just launched its latest TWS earbuds in the Enco series called the “Enco Buds” in Thailand. It is quite similar to the Enco W11 which is available in Nepal as well, but brings a few upgrades. Here, we will be looking at the specifications, features, expected price, and availability of Oppo Enco Buds in Nepal.

Design and Audio

Enco Buds comes with an 8mm dynamic audio driver with an amplitude of 100.6 dB at 1kHz, and a frequency range of 20Hz-20kHz. According to Oppo, this contributes to rich and deep bass sounds. Moreover, the buds hold an IP54 certification for dust and water resistance as well.

When it comes to the buds, they have an angular design that ensures a perfect fit in the ear. They include features like intelligent call noise cancellation, automatic connections, etc. Here, the latter only works with phones running on ColorOS 11.0 or above. The charging case resembles that of the Oppo Enco W11 and weighs about 37g.

For connectivity, it uses Bluetooth 5.2 and has an operational range of 10 meters. As expected, the Oppo Enco Buds support the basic AAC and SBC audio codecs only.

The Buds have touch control functionality. Depending on the case, a single click on either side will play or pause the music. A double-tap, on the other hand, will skip the current track. You can enable game mode with a triple tap that promises to bring down latency to just 80ms. Finally, you can adjust the volume via the earbuds themselves. Just press and hold until the sound is changed to your taste.

Battery 

Along with the charging case, Oppo claims a battery life of up to 24 hours on a single charge. Each bud is powered by a 40mAh battery that promises up to 6 hours of playback time at 50% volume. Similarly, the charging case contains a 400mAh battery. The battery can be charged via the USB Type-C port on the charging case. According to the company, the earbuds take 2 hours to fully charge, and 2.5 hours including the case.

Just a month after the launch of the Realme 8, the company has announced the 5G variant of the device. In this post, we will be taking a look at the specs, features, expected price, and availability of Realme 8 5G in Nepal.

Realme 8 5G Overview:

To note, Realme 8 5G is a rebrand of Realme V13 5G which was launched in China about a month ago. While the V13 has an 8MP selfie camera, this one brings a 16MP sensor instead.

Design and Display

The phone features a 6.5-inch FHD+ panel with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, Realme has used an LCD panel here. Therefore, the fingerprint scanner has also been shifted from under the screen to the side. The display has a left-aligned circular cutout for the selfie camera. Realme also claims maximum brightness of up to 600 nits and a screen-to-body ratio of 90.5% on this phone.

Realme 8 5G is 8.5mm thick and weighs around 185 grams. The rear panel is based on high-gloss indium plating which the company claims provides extra shine to it. Many will be glad to know that there is no “Dare To Leap” branding on the 5G variant. There are two colors to choose from here – Supersonic Blue and Supersonic Black.

Performance and Memory

Powering the Realme 8 5G is Dimensity 700 which features two Cortex-A76 cores (@ 2.2GHz) and six Cortex-A55 cores (@ 2.0GHz). It is based on TSMC’s 7nm process that makes it more energy-efficient than the Helio G95 on the 4G variant. It also supports 5G connectivity and hence boasts up to 2.77Gbps of peak download speed.

MediaTek Dimensity 700

The phone comes in two RAM variants – 4GB and 8GB. Both come with 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. It can be expanded up to 1TB using an external microSD card. Realme has also introduced Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology that lets the phone use a certain portion of internal storage as RAM. With this, you can increase Realme 8 5G’s RAM to 5GB and 11GB depending upon the variant.

Camera

Coming to the camera, Realme has made a lot of compromises here. First, the primary camera has been downgraded to 48MP from 64MP on the 4G variant. Similarly, there is no ultrawide lens here. Instead, what you get is a macro sensor and a Black and White sensor. Plus, there is no 4K recording either. The highest you can go with the rear camera is 1080p/30 fps.

On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera enclosed within the punch-hole cutout. It also maxes out at 1080p/30fps video recording.

Realme 8 5G gets its juice from a 5,000mAh. The company claims that one can get up to 114 hours of music time on a full charge with this device. The charging speed has also been reduced from 30W on the 4G variant to just 18W here. The phone ships with Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 out-of-the-box.

After multiple leaks and rumors, Xiaomi launched the Mi Watch Lite in December of last year. It is a smartwatch for budget-conscious users and has more familiarity with a fitness tracker instead. And now, Xiaomi Nepal has brought it here. Let’s take a look at the specs, features, official price, and availability of the Mi Watch Lite in Nepal.

Mi Watch Lite Overview:

The Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite is actually a rebrand of the Redmi Watch, which is exclusive to the Chinese market. With that out of the way, allow me to discuss more about the Mi Watch Lite.

Design and Display

Here, this smartwatch sports a 1.4-inch square display. Since it’s an entry-level smartwatch, Xiaomi has opted for a TFT LCD panel instead of AMOLED. The display has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels, resulting in a 323 PPI pixel density. Likewise, the typical brightness level of the watch is listed at 350 nits. Similarly, the watch covers 60% of the NTSC color gamut. The watch comes with 120 customizable watch faces.

Taking the heart rate sensor into account, it measures 41 x 35mm x 11.9mm. With the TPU strap, the Mi Watch Lite weighs around 35 grams. You can also stay worry-free about water damage on this smartwatch since it boasts a 5 ATM water resistance certification.

Health, Fitness Tracking

Moving on, Mi Watch Lite is able to keep track of 11 workout modes. However, only 10 of them will be available at launch. The company has promised to include Cricket in future OTA upgrades. It has a PPG optical sensor that can record changes in the heart rate. The watch can also record resting heart rate data for up to 3 days. Similarly, Mi Watch Lite also supports sleep tracking but it’s unclear if it can record REM sleep. Also, the watch provides breathing exercises.

Mi Watch Lite is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Users of both platforms will need to download the Xiaomi Wear Lite app and Xiaomi Wear app, respectively to analyze the data.

Another highlight of this smartwatch is the built-in GPS navigation. Thus, it can keep track of trajectory, speed, and distance without requiring a phone. Other smart features include notifications, music playback control, weather report, and Find phone.

Xiaomi is claiming 9 days of battery endurance on normal usage with the 230mAh battery. However, the number is drastically reduced to just 10 hours with continuous GPS usage.
