Wide notch still continued on the Mate 30 Pro?

0

Smartphone companies today are innovating and trying several ways to remove the infamous notch. We have seen sliders, pop-up cameras, rotating units, and god knows what else is about to come. Yet, Huawei is seemingly planning to retain the wide notch on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

According to the latest leaked screen protectors and shatter-proof glasses; the front panel of the Mate 30 Pro reveals five holes in the notch. We can speculate that one of the holes is definitely for the selfie camera. The second one for the proximity sensor and the third one could be the speaker. However, the functionality of the other two holes is still unknown.

The photo also reveals that Huawei Mate 30 Pro will opt to extremely curved edges of the OLED. The bottom and side bezels seem practically invisible. Rumors are the Mate 30 Pro will also have AR/VR emojis along with ToF for face unlock.

We can postulate that the same bezel will come in the Mate 30 as well. But unlike the Pro variant, the Mate 30 seems to have a more moderate curvature.

Other information about the phones is still unknown. And Huawei is still staying silent about the eventual launch date. However, due to the leaks and rumors, we can anticipate that the phone is close to the horizon. It may not be long until we see the phone on the shelves of the market.

Megabytes and Megabits: Here’s what your internet speed means

The megabits and megabytes confusion is widespread among many internet users. This issue often arises when dealing with internet providers. Because we are more used to dealing with megabytes (for storage); when a company says to offer internet of up to 100 Mbps; people assume they will see speeds of 100 megabytes per second. But, unfortunately, that is not the case.

The abbreviation for megabit is Mb and megabyte is written as MB. This slight difference in capitalization is what brings the confusion. As bits and bytes sound and are written alike, however, they are different units of measurement.

megabits vs megabytes

Internet providers have adapted the megabit as standard for speed measurement. It makes more sense as the data is sent as single bits at a time. Using this unit of measurement is more accurate and organized. They could just translate their terms to casual consumer language; however, 100 Mb will always look more impressive than 12.5 MB. The marketing advantage certainly helps make more sales.

Difference between Megabits and Megabytes

One byte is equal to eight bits, in simple terms. This means one megabyte equals eight megabits. So, by doing some math, you will realize, 100Mbps speed is equivalent to 12.5 megabytes per second.

  • 1 byte = 8 bits
  • 1 megabyte = 8 megabits
  • 12.5 megabytes = 100 megabits
  • 1 gigabyte = 8 gigabits

Now that you have come to realize, your 100 Mbps internet speed is actually 12.5 MB per second; make sure your expectations are in check. Internet providers will often advertise these as their maximum speeds or at least mention it in small prints. However, you may get 100 Mbps speed; but congestion, physics, cable distance, data loss, Wi-Fi strength, and other factors will hinder those speeds.

Whether you prefer referring to data as megabits or megabytes, at least now you know what each means. The next internet service provider that crosses your path won’t be able to fool you!

Huawei Executive seen using the Mate X, hinting September release date

0

With Samsung planning its second go on the ambitious Galaxy Fold on September; its major rival Mate X from Huawei looks to be on the horizon. Speaking of the release date, Samsung might beat Huawei to the market. However, there are indications the Huawei Mate X might also arrive in September.

Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Richard Yu was recently seen using the Mate X in an airport. Rather than hiding away the device, he was flaunting it to the camera. The anonymous photographer could grab some close-up shots of the phone. Publicity stunt, or not, we at least know that it’s ready for commercial sales, now.

Richard Yu Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO

The pictures originated on Weibo at around the same time as Samsung revealed the new launch date of the Galaxy Fold. However, unlike the Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X has an outward-facing foldable display. Some say the Fold’s design is better for preserving the delicate display; while others argue Huawei’s design will put less stress on the crease line of the display. What you prefer, is up to you.

huawei mate x foldable phone

Scheduled to release in July, but for the fear of Galaxy Fold-like experience, rigorous testing was done of the Mate X; postponing the scheduled date to September. The device got regulatory approval in China, suggesting it is set to go on sale in the country soon.

President of Huawei’s Product Division, He Gang hinted that Huawei Mate X will go on sale by the end of July or early August in China. Perhaps a wider roll-out will begin in September.

We are sure that both, Galaxy Fold and Mate X will hit the shelves in September. And the Mate X is definitely costlier than its Galaxy counterpart. But what do you think of the Mate X in this spontaneous, definitely-not-planned-ahead-of-time photoshoot?

Corsair acquires Origin PC: A making of something special?

0

We all know Corsair, the gaming peripheral manufacturer that recently entered the Nepali market. Yes, the same company, Corsair, acquires Origin PC, not the PC gaming platform but the US-based pre-built PC manufacturers. It’s easy to confuse the two but if you are a gamer, you know how it is.

In short, isn’t a gaming peripheral and internal component manufacturer for PC, buying out a well-loved pre-built PC manufacturer, a match made in heaven? Depends on how the story pans out.

Corsair

Corsair makes RAM kits, power supplies, CPU coolers, casing, fans, and even liquid-cooled graphics cards. Not to mention their high-performance USB flash drives, all of which are excellent products. Then there are the gaming peripherals; mouse, keyboards, headphones, and mouse pads. On top of all that, they already manufactured a few pre-built PC too, take for instance the Corsair One.

Corsair one pre-built pc

The simplest way of look at this would be the use of more Corsair products to manufacturing pre-built PCs and stick an Origin logo on top. We also feel that huge discounts for their newly acquired company are in order. Corsair also produces an RGB solution called iCue, a software and hardware combo to easily manage and sync all the RGB lightings, plus a few extras like controlling fan speeds and temperatures.

Origin

But Origin PC isn’t far off in the wow department either. They are creative and are known to built specialized gaming and workstation-class PCs and laptops. All of which are hand-built and they also offer 24/7 lifetime support from experienced gamers and hardware enthusiasts.

What can we expect?

Origin PC will live on to as an independent brand under Corsair. The company has assured its customers that they will retain the choices of components from multiple brands as usual. Furthermore, existing warranties, support and purchases will not be affected by this acquisition, for both companies whatsoever.

“With the gaming PC market continuing to expand as an increasing number of players make the jump from console to PC, we wanted to do more to reach customers in North America that prefer to buy, rather than build their system”

-CEO, Corsair

But because both are private companies, the terms of the acquisition are yet to go official. The only other things we are sure of is the fact that their Corsair Vengence PC, Corsair One and Corsair One pro aren’t going anywhere.

Maybe we will finally see Corsair’s new Hydro X-series custom liquid coolers and iCue software integrated into newer Origin PCs. If you ask me, this is a great move from Corsair, they get the excellent sales channel created by Origin while easily integrating themselves to a newer market.

Sony RX100 VII Launched: A complete Vlogging machine

Sony’s RX100 camera series has been the capable and pocketable point-and-shoot cameras since their debut. With a 1″ sensor and some great optics from Zeiss combined with its compact size, this is an ideal camera for things like travel photography. And Sony very recently launched a new iteration in the RX100 series – the Sony RX100 VII. And this one has quite a few important improvements that make it a complete machine for Vloggers.

Most important of the upgrades, seems to be the addition of a 3.5 mm audio port or a mic port. Because that was stopping the older RX100 VI from being a complete vlogging tool. You don’t want to rely on the camera’s inbuilt mic, do you? So, now, with this, it finally becomes highly suitable for vlogging purposes.

Another significant upgrade is the Real-Time Tracking and Real-Time Eye Autofocus on the camera. It works in both stills and videos, and it even works on animals. It uses predictive AI and recognition AI to track your subject. So, if nature photography is your thing, then, this could be a great gear for you. Sony has been working on its Autofocus technology. And it now claims that the Sony RX100 VII’s autofocus is the fastest in the world, locking the subject in about 0.02 seconds. Also, it now has 357 Phase Detection AF points and 425 Contrast-detection AF points – a feature available in the like A9 and A6400.

In addition, there’s this Single Burst Drive Shooting Mode which allows you capture some fast-paced action. On a single click, it will present you with 7 images – which means better odds of capturing quick moments!

Other improvements are in the sensor. While the lens on the Sony RX100 VII is the same as last year’s – a 20.1 MP 24-200 zoom lens with an f/2.8-4.5 aperture that offers up to 8.3x optical zoom – the 1″ sensor is upgraded to a stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with the latest-gen BIONZ X image processor.

The Sony RX100 VII will cost you about $1200 when it comes out later in August 2019. However, you will also be able to buy a shooting kit comprising of a handheld bracket, a mic pocket, and two rechargeable batteries for an additional $100.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 full specs & press renders leaked ahead of the launch

Rumors, rumors, and more rumors. With the highly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked yet to come, I don’t think the rumors regarding the event will stop any time soon. Along with Note 10 and Note 10+, Samsung is set to launch other multiple devices in this event. And the Samsung Galaxy watch Active 2 might also be one of them.

Previously, leaks had emerged teasing the various features that we’ll probably find in the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. Rumors about an inbuilt ECG tracker had also made rounds. Well, new leaks have emerged confirming many of the previous ones and a few more.

The watch will be available in two sizes, 40 mm and 44mm. The former will have a 1.2″ screen whereas the other one will have a 1.4″ display. Both of them will be a Super AMOLED display with 360×360 resolution. Furthermore, the screens will get Gorilla Glass  DX+ on top.

Both the variants will be available in either aluminum or stainless steel casing. The device allegedly adheres to the MIL-STD 810G durability standards. So, expect both of them to be pretty sturdy.

Apparently, the device will have a touch-sensitive bezel. So, buh-bye rotating bezels! The touch-sensitive bezel provides users with an option to switch to UI mode by swiping on to it.

galaxy watch active 2

The processor on the device is the same as its predecessor. It will use the Samsung Exynos 9110 Soc however the RAM will vary depending upon the model. The Bluetooth only model will have 768MB of RAM whereas the LTE-capable will have 1.5GB of RAM. However, the internal storage on both of them will be 4GB.

Talking about the battery, the 40mm watch may have a 247mAh battery. Similarly, the 44mm watch will be powered by a 340mAh battery. The previous rumors about the device having an ECG tracker and fall detection. However, the former will probably take a year to roll out because Samsung has still not received the FDA approval for it.

Equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, the improved range will decrease your worries about the watch losing connectivity with your phone. However, the increased range of connectivity could also lead to you compromising your privacy. Read more about that here.

Aluminum Watch Active 2 will be available in black, silver and Pink-Gold whereas the stainless steel version will be available in black, silver and gold. All colors will be available in both sizes.

Even though all these rumors regarding the specs of the device have come up, there’s still no certainty about its release date. Many expect it to release in the Galaxy Unpacked event however the timestamp on the new leaked images suggest that it may well release 2 days prior to the event. Whatever it is, the device has bleak chances of releasing in the Nepalese market as its predecessor had not released here either. But, who knows. Maybe it will be available this time. Till then all we can do is speculate.

And also, some let you make and receive calls via the watch itself. But how many offer you the ability to make calls through your finger? Well, the Get Bracelet does exactly that.

It allows you to use your index fingers to make and receive calls via Bone Conduction Technology. Vivo Z5 Specs confirmed before launch: Following the 2019 trend

0

Vivo’s Z-series of smartphones tend to be value for money beasts – looking by the international markets, at least. Of course, Vivo has no plans to launch its Z-series in Nepal. It is because the Z-series is, for now, an online-only lineup. And in the context of Nepal, well, those kinds of things don’t really work, do they? But still, we can look at these phones, can’t we? After Vivo’s Z1 Pro had us wanting more, Vivo’s soon-to-launch phone, the Vivo Z5 specs have leaked.

Vivo Z5 Overview

The Vivo Z5 is in its leak stages, currently. But it is kinda in its last stages, let’s say. Because we have most of the things about the phone there’s to know. Even its images leaked some time ago online.

For starters, the Vivo Z5 will run on the Snapdragon 712 processor. This processor is a slight improvement over the Snapdragon 710, about 10% of a performance boost. In addition, it features something called Multi-Turbo technology. This could be something to do with a Gaming Mode boost for the phones. There has been no mention of RAM or storage, however.

vivo z5 specs revealed

Furthermore, the Vivo Z5 features a Super AMOLED display with a tear-drop notch. But the size of the display is still in the dark. However, we do know that the display will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor on it. Also, the notch will house a 32 MP selfie camera.

Its images show a triple camera setup on the Vivo Z5. And yes, with the primary camera being a 48 MP shooter, it is following the present trends of mid-range smartphones like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Vivo V15 Pro, Oppo F11 Pro, etc. So, maybe it will be a good fit in the market. Other spec reveals include a 4500 mAh battery with a 22.5-Watt Fast Charging.

The Vivo Z5 will launch on July 31, which is very soon. So, we’ll know all about it on the day itself.

Samsung Galaxy Fold re-lives: Relaunching this September

0

When the world’s most anticipated folding phone failed to deliver, many of us were disappointed! Because, well, the Future seemed fragile… The Samsung Galaxy Fold faced a number of problems upon initial reviews from various reviewers. Some were related to the lack of complete information, but most others were due to some bad design choices. And so, the company delayed the launch of the Galaxy Fold.

And after 69 days of delay, Samsung is set to release the phone once again. Of course, it was evident, but the last time we heard of it, it was in its test stages after the revamps. But now, the company made an official statement about its release.

samsung galaxy fold fixed

The Samsung Galaxy Fold went through quite a few fixes. First, the protective layer on top, that some reviewers mistook for a screen protector, now extends beyond the bezels so that it becomes an integral part of the phone. Second, the phone features some reinforcements to prevent debris from entering beneath the screen – which was another major issue of concern. Also, they added further reinforcements under the display to make the plastic display more rigid. In addition to that, the phone also has protection caps on the top and bottom of the hinge. This not only strengthens the hinges but also closes the air gap between the body and the hinge.

After all of this, the phone is in its final quality control tests. And for a price of $1980, I say there have to be tons of tests. Anyways, the phone will re-launch this September. And let’s see if the re-incarnated Galaxy Fold will stand strong or “fold” again…
