Big Digital comes into operation as Nepal’s largest multi-brand electronic retail chain

0

Big Digital, Nepal’s only and largest multi-brand electronic retail chain, has opened its first store at Gwarko, Lalitpur. Swastima Khadka, the company’s brand ambassador, officially inaugurated the store on July 20. Continue reading to learn more about Big Digital.

Big Digital Overview:

Big Digital is the country’s first retail chain of consumer electronics brands. It is a part of Triveni Group, which is the retail business arm of many national and international companies in the country, including Yasuda and Samsung.

The new retail chain is being launched with the intention of assisting customers in their purchasing decisions. The promise will be fulfilled through a diverse choice of brands and products, as well as a refined and quality shopping experience.

Currently Big Digital offers products from over 90 brands under a single roof. This includes household appliances, mobile phones, laptops, televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators, and even musical instruments.

Besides covering a range of brands, Big Digital is committed to selling only genuine products that are imported into the country through authorized distributors. That means, the consumers will receive products at genuine prices, with VAT bills as well as warranty assurances.

Stores

As previously stated, Big Digital opened its first store in Gwarko Complex, Gwarko, Lalitpur. It spans three floors and 6,000 square feet. However, according to them, this is not the largest store, but rather one of the smallest, and they are already planning on expansion.

Big Digital Store Location

Shortly, Big Digital will launch its stores in Pulchowk and Sitapaila, which will have a larger of roughly 12,000 square feet. Vikramesh Ojha, the CEO of Big Digital, said,” The prime objective behind establishing the store is to offer the international brands of superior quality to Nepali consumers in an exceedingly easy manner.”

What is Big Digital aiming at?

It is very obvious that Big Digital wants to improve customers’ offline purchasing experiences in Nepal. It is following in the footsteps of other well-known retail chains in the global market like Walmart in the US and Reliance Digital in India.

With this, customers will be able to enjoy the convenience of buying all electronic items under one roof. Add to that, the purchasing decision gets much easier as you can choose the product based on your personal experience; meaning can physically touch, feel, and understand the nature of that particular item.

This has always been the perk of offline stores and Big Digital hopes to further improve the experience with its well-facilitated infrastructure and service. So for the convenience of users, each gadget in the Big Digital store will have a QR code placed nearby. With only a scan, you may learn all there is to know about the item.

Not only this, but the company is also providing deals and offers on purchases made through the store to attract customers. They are currently giving away gift cards worth Rs. 5000, Rs. 2,000, and 100% cashback to three lucky customers. Similar to that, they were also giving away a free laptop with the purchase of a 75″ UHD TV, albeit the promotion was only good through July 24. But you can keep checking out their official handles to stay up-to-date with new offers

Future ambitions

Big Digital’s future plans include opening stores in 25 different locations in the next three years. Likewise, the company is planning to launch over 50 stores in the next five years. And in the long term, it seeks to open stores in all 7 provinces across Nepal.

Additionally, they aim to exclusively introduce different products and services through their platform in the near future. As they expand, it would be advantageous for companies to partner with them. And this would also benefit customers as they will be able to buy the product easily at their nearby Big Digital stores.

All of this is still up in the air since the business needs to make strides to establish itself in the market. This comprises everything from maintaining an overall positive shopping experience to exciting deals and discounts.

Samsung beats TSMC in the race to ship first 3nm GAA chips

0

On June 30, Samsung Foundry began mass production of the first-generation 3nm chip. Fast forward to a month, the company held a ceremony in South Korea to celebrate the first batch of its Multi-Bridge-Channel FET (MBCFET)-based chips. Let’s take a look at what Samsung’s new 3nm chips have to offer.

Samsung 3nm Chip Overview:

While TSMC’s 3nm process will not go into mass production until the second half of 2022, Samsung has already shipped its first batch. A Chinese crypto mining firm is the first to receive the new chips from Samsung.

The company plans to use the 3nm GAA technology for high-end smart devices in the future. But for the time being, the chips will mine Bitcoin.

According to Dr. Siyoung Choi, President of Samsung Foundry, the 3nm mining chips are 23% to 45% more energy-efficient than previous node-based chips.

GAA Technology

The new 3nm chips from Samsung employ GAA technology in the form of Multi-Bridge-Channel FETs (MBCFET). The 3nm GAA transistor architecture overcomes the limitations of FinFET, resulting in higher power efficiency and faster performance.

Samsung is launching its first nanosheet transistor application with chips for high-performance, low-power computing applications. However, it plans to expand to mobile processors.

Samsung 3nm chip Evolution

The proprietary technology uses nanosheets to create wider channels. In comparison to GAA transistors with nanowires, this allows for higher performance and energy efficiency, according to Samsung.

Samsung will be able to optimize the 3nm chips to meet the needs of its customers by adjusting the width of the nanosheet channels.

Samsung 5nm vs. 3nm process

Comparing the first-gen 3nm chip from Samsung to the older 5nm process, up to a 45% reduction in power consumption can be observed. Moreover, it offers a performance boost of 23%, all while having a 16% reduction in area.

The second generation Samsung 3nm chips are expected to reduce the power consumption by up to 50%, improve performance by 30% and reduce the area by 35%.

2nm chipset by the end of 2025

According to Samsung’s roadmap, the company will be ready to mass produce the second generation of 3nm chipsets in 2023. Furthermore, the 2nm process node is being developed, and Samsung expects to mass produce 2nm chips in 2025.

0

Honor has launched its new budget-friendly tablet, the Honor Pad 8, in China. The tablet competes with the likes of Oppo Pad Air and Xiaomi Pad 5. So, let’s get into the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Honor Pad 8 in Nepal.

Honor Pad 8 Overview:

Design and Display

The Honor Pad 8 features a design language similar to many Android tablets out there. The back is made of anodized aluminum, weighing about 520 grams. Its 6.9mm thickness is also in line with the competition.

Honor Pad 8 - Design

The Pad 8 is equipped with a 12-inch 2K LCD on the front. It has narrow 7.2mm bezels, which is a good viewing experience when paired with the 10:6 aspect ratio. However, it lacks a high 120Hz refresh rate like the Xiaomi Pad 5.

The display also has TUV Rheinland hardware-level low blue light, no flicker, and eye protection certification.

Performance

Here, the performance is handled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor. Honor has limited the storage option to only 128GB. Nonetheless, it is available in 3 RAM variants: 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB.

Honor Pad 8 - Split Screen

The Honor Pad 8 runs MagicUI 6.1, based on Android 12. It comes with multi-screen collaboration, an application split screen, and a new Smart desktop experience.

Camera

The optics on the Honor Pad 8 are handled by a single 5MP shooter on the back. Likewise, the front bezel houses a 5MP sensor for selfies and video conferences.

Rest of the specs

Another highlight of the tablet is the presence of 8 speakers with 8.8cc sound chambers. Out of them, 4 units offer treble, and the other 4 work on bass. Honor also offers DTS:X support alongside its Honor Histen sound effects.

The pad is powered by a 7,250mAh battery capable of 22.5W fast charging. Furthermore, Honor sells a detachable keyboard for the Pad 8, which also supports stylus input.

HP outlines its roadmap for Nepal at the Partner Summit 2022 event

0

Genxt Nepal, the authorized distributor of HP products in Nepal, recently undertook the HP Partner Summit 2022 event to present HP’s future plans for the country. The meeting was held on July 20, 2022, at the Aloft Hotel in Thamel. Read along to know more about the HP Partner Summit 2022.

HP Partner Summit 2022 Overview:

HP took the stage at the Partner Summit event to elaborate on its plans for the country. Company executives from around the nation attended this one-day event and outlined their plans for new projects.

Takeaway

The main takeaway from this event is that HP will soon launch its new Intel 12th-generation laptops in Nepal. If you look at the market, currently only Ripple, Asus, and Level51 offer Alder Lake-powered machines in Nepal. So HP’s entrance will provide buyers with another option.

HP Summit Event -1

Furthermore, in order to improve after-sales support, HP will assure the availability of original replacement parts as well as timely maintenance. In general, the after-sales service for laptops is quite abysmal in Nepal given the lack of genuine spare parts.

This leaves no alternative for consumers except to use low-grade components imported through the grey market. As a result, HP’s effort in this area is noteworthy for both resellers as well as its customers.

The company will also introduce its monitors focused on home office purposes. Aside from that, HP intends to launch its printers in Nepal along with genuine components (like Ink cartridges) for faster and more reliable service.

Pixel 6a with OLED display, Tensor chip launched in India

This year’s Google I/O event saw multiple launches, including the much-awaited Pixel 6a. With the new design and tensor chip, the phone is being presented as the cheaper alternative to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It is now available for pre-order in multiple markets including the US, UK, India, and Australia. In this article, we will be discussing the specs, features, expected price, and availability of the Google Pixel 6a in Nepal.

Google Pixel 6a Overview:

Design and Display

Goole Pixel 6a brings a familiar two-toned design with a horizontal camera back at the back. The frame is metallic, and the fingerprint scanner hides underneath the display as well. There are three colors to choose from here: Chalk, Charcoal, and Sage. Unlike the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro which are IP68 dust and water-resistant, the 6a settles with an IP67 rating instead.

Over on the front, Pixel 6a sports a 6.1-inch OLED screen with FHD resolution. Google doesn’t look keen on joining the higher refresh rate bandwagon for its sub-flagship phones since the Pixel 6a refreshes just 60 times a second. The screen has a center-aligned punch-hole cut out for the selfie camera.

Performance and Memory

In terms of performance, Google Pixel 6a is powered by the same in-house Tensor chip as its bigger siblings. It even has the Titan M2 security chip. The phone is available in a single memory configuration with 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Pixel 6a will ship with Android 12 out of the box. That being said, Google has already confirmed that it will be among the earliest adopters of Android 13. The company is also promising five years of security updates.

Camera

The horizontal camera bump at the back of the phone is home to a dual-camera setup. It consists of a 12.2MP primary camera with support for Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). It looks like Google has used the same hardware here that’s found in the Pixel 5a. The main camera is accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide sensor. Upfront, the circular cut-out is home to an 8MP selfie camera.

Rest of the specs

Google Pixel 6a comes with a 4410mAh battery — even smaller than its predecessor offered. Still, Google says the phone will last up to 24 hours. There is even an Extreme Battery Save mode, which promises endurance of up to 72 hours. The phone is pre-loaded with features like Live Caption and Live Translate.

Google Pixel 6a Specifications:

  • Body: 71.8 x 152.2 x 8.9mm, 178 gm
  • Display: 6.1-inches OLED panel, 60Hz refresh rate, HDR, Gorilla Glass 3
