Preview immersive 3D landscape of your destination, thanks to Google Maps

    0

In Google I/O, which was heavily based on AI, they also introduced us to Immersive View on Google Maps. Now, they have published it alongside other AI-focused capabilities. So, without further ado, allow me to get into all the new features in the Google Maps AI Update.

    Google Maps AI Update: Overview

First, starting with the region-specific features (on-launch)

    Immersive View

Immersive View is a new way to navigate through places by placing 3D models of the street on the map. From starting to finishing point, the app will show you a preview of the multidimensional structure of the route. What it uses is AI to combine billions of Street Views and aerial images for one complete view of the street.

Moreover, before leaving the place, you can prepare by using the time slider to determine when to leave. This feature simulates traffic and weather conditions at any given time while rendering models to best estimate the scene. Besides, developers can even create their own immersive experiences with photorealistic 3D tiles on the Google Maps Platform.

Google Maps AI Update Immersive View

The only catch is that this feature is released first in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dublin, Florence, Las Vegas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Tokyo, and Venice. Google will be adding other cities slowly.

    Lens in Map

Previously named “Search with Live View”, Lens in Maps lets you view the live markings on the building using augmented reality in conjunction with AI. Furthermore, once you get to the location, you can get recommendations to (let’s say) a coffee shop precisely based on where you are.

Google Maps AI Update Lens in Maps

This feature will roll out in more than 50 new cities, including Austin, Las Vegas, Rome, São Paulo, and Taipei. However, Nepal won’t see any of the features until much later.

    More detailed maps

Google Maps will show new maps with more precision. The navigation will include more realistic buildings with updated colors to best represent a place. This particular feature will come to 12 countries, including the U.S., Canada, France, and Germany, in the coming months.

Additionally, there will be information about HOV lanes along your route for people in the US. And for those of you in Europe, the AI-powered speed limit information is expanding to 20 countries.

Now, to the features everyone can enjoy today

    EV charging information

EV owners have a hard time refueling their vehicles, as it is a hassle to find a charging station in the town. Not only that but knowing the charging compatibility is also a sort of a problem. With the update, the map shows much more information about the station and its active status alongside the charging speed. Making it quite easy for the users to skip an inactive station.

Google Maps AI Update Charging Station

    Find Inspirations

Another AI feature is “finding inspiration for things to do”. You can search Google Maps for what you want to do, and the maps will suggest the locations for you. There is also an image-based search utilizing AI. And when you click on one of the images, Google Maps will find you location that best fits the image. Their article states:

Now, when you search in Maps for specific things like the best place to find “animal latte art” or “pumpkin patch with my dog,” you’ll get photo-first results of what you’re looking for. These results are based on the analysis of billions of photos shared by the Google Maps community — all done with AI and advanced image recognition models.

Google Maps AI Update InspirationAlso, if you are somewhere outside and you ask for “things to do” in Google Maps, it will suggest multiple sections to do at the particular location. Further clicking on the option will show you the places to go for that particular theme.

    Google Maps AI Update: Availability

Most of the features are currently locked within a geographic area. However, Google mentioned that the features will be extended all across the world. All of the features will be released on both Android and iOS. And the cars with Google built-in will get the detailed maps going for them as well.

Here’s what to expect from tomorrow’s “Scary Fast” Apple event

    0

After unveiling the iPhone 15 series alongside Watch Ultra 2 and Watch Series 9 about a month ago, Apple is all set for another one. While the last event focused on the announcement of new iPhones and Apple Watches, this one will be more computer-centric. This Apple Event is titled “Scary Fast.”, and we will discuss what we know about it so far!

    Apple “Scary Fast” Event Overview:

As mentioned earlier, this Apple event will be computer-centric, such that, it will focus on a new set of chips alongside an upgrade for the iMac. Thanks to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, we have some initial information on the highlights of the event.

    New Mac M3 Chips

Apple will be announcing a set of three new chips, namely M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. All these chips will apparently be based on 3nm fabrication technology. This is quite a feat from Apple, considering these chips have been quite hard to obtain. Nonetheless, we expect this new line of chips to bring a significant performance boost over their predecessors. We have some insight into the architecture of these new chips as well.

    M3 Chip Series

The regular M3 chip is said to feature eight CPU cores altogether alongside 10 graphics cores. Similarly, the M3 Pro might arrive in various configurations starting with 12 CPU cores and 18 graphics cores. The higher-end variant of the same might boast 14 CPU cores and 20 graphics cores. Lastly, Apple has supposedly tested the M3 Max chip with 16 + 40 CPU and graphics cores respectively. A watered-down version of the Max chip may feature ‘only’ 32 graphics cores.

    iMac Upgrade

iMac is Apple’s all-in-one desktop computer that debuted back in 1998. The iMac received its latest upgrade over 2 years ago with the M1 chipset. It’s about time to give this device an upgrade it deserves! And since this year marks the silver jubilee for the product, what better occasion to do so?  All in all, we expect an announcement relating to an upgrade in the upcoming Apple Event.

When and where to watch the Apple “Scary Fast” Event?

You can watch the Apple “Scary Fast” Event for absolutely free on their official website and YouTube. The event will commence on 30 October 2023, 5:00 PM PST. This correlates to 31 October 2023, 5:45 AM here in Nepal.

With Snapdragon X Elite, Windows laptops have a promising future

    0

Arm is still not a popular name in the world of Windows PCs. It has not gained as much attention as the x86-based mobile CPUs from Intel and AMD. But Qualcomm hopes to change all of this with its new Snapdragon X Elite platform that has a custom Arm-based “Oryon” CPU. Let’s find out more.

    Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Overview:

    12 cores (4nm)

Based on a 4nm process, the Snapdragon X Elite features 12 high-performance “Oryon” CPU cores, all clocked at up to 3.8 GHz. Out of which two of them can be boosted up to 4.3 GHz as well.

    Better than the competition?

And with this, Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon X Elite has 2x the multi-core performance of the Intel Core i7-1360P CPU at ISO power (meaning at the same power level). Supposedly, this CPU matches Intel’s peak performance with 68% better power efficiency. Whereas compared to the top-of-the-line Core i9-13980HX, this Oryon CPU reportedly manages slightly faster single-threaded CPU performance too.

The year-long wait for the all-new Mortal Kombat: Onslaught finally ended a couple of days earlier. Onslaught is a new game in the Mortal Kombat series, made by NetherRealms. This one is a real-time, collection role-playing game (cRPG)and is mobile exclusive. So, in this article, let’s discuss the new Mortal Kombat game, its lore, character offerings, and a whole lot more.

    Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Overview

This game features an action-packed story centered around Shinnok’s mission for destruction.

    Features of the game

The game offers quality graphics, cool movie-like scenes, and really intense fights. In the new Mortal Kombat, you can play famous characters like Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Kitana, Cyrax and Smoke that fans love.

In the game, you work with Raiden to stop a powerful Shinnok from getting strong again by putting together a strong team of fighters. All the characters in the game fall into four main groups: Assassins, Warriors, Snipers, and Defenders.

Each character in the game has their own special moves and skills, but you can only pick four of them for your team. The game also lets you compete against others in PvP seasons, which is great if you like competitive fighting games.

XReal’s latest AR glasses with micro-OLED display launched globally

XReal, formerly known as NReal, has globally launched two versions of its next-generation AR glasses in the form of Air 2 and Air 2 Pro. In this article, we will be discussing the XReal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro in more detail, including their specs, features, availability, expected price in Nepal, and more.

XReal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro Overview:

    Design and display

Design-wise, both the models of XReal’s new AR glasses look like, well, sunglasses. Their build is pretty similar to regular sunglasses except for a display underneath. The 0.55-inch micro-OLED panel from Sony is the main highlight of both the Air 2 and Air 2 Pro as XReal is the first adopter of this display technology. It is quite sharp with a 4,032 ppi (a 21% rise from its predecessor), while it apparently gives you a view equivalent to that of a 330-inch display.

    XREAL Air 2 Design

Moreover, the XReal Air 2 series is available in grey and red color options. The company also provides 7 different sticker options for additional personalization. They have also managed to cut the weight of Air 2 to only 72gm (while Air 2 Pro weighs 75gm) by using materials like magnesium alloy. Furthermore, the company has shifted more of the device’s weight towards the temple. As a result, XReal’s new AR glasses have better weight distribution and achieve better balance.

    Features and more

In terms of audio, these AR glasses support X-Spatial Sound 2.0, which offers better mid-low-frequency sounds and prevents sound leakage too. These glasses have also received TÜV Rheinland certifications for color accuracy, eye comfort, low blue light, and zero flicker. You can connect these glasses via the onboard USB Type-C port too.

    XReal Air 2 Design 2

These new AR glasses also have a companion handest called the “XReal Beam”, which was released earlier this year. You can use this handset as a remote control for the AR glasses. The beam comes pre-installed with two tablet versions of apps from Bilibili and iQiyi.

Other than this, almost all the aspects of the XReal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro are the same. The only difference is that the Air 2 Pro has three levels — 0%, 35%, and 100% — of electrochromic dimming. XReal calls it “Immersion Control” and with this, you can control how much of the outside world you can view. With 0% letting it all in while setting it to 100% blocks the view to the outer world completely.

XReal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro Price in Nepal and Availability

While these AR glasses were originally exclusive to China, they’re now available in the US too. With the Air 2 starting at USD 399 and the Pro model at USD 449. Although highly unlikely, we expect the XReal Air 2 and Air 2 Pro price in Nepal to start at NPR 63,699 and NPR 71,599, respectively if they launch here.

XReal AR Glasses Price in USA (Official) Price in Nepal (Expected)
