Amazfit GTS 4 Mini is the first smartwatch of the GTS 4 series. It is a compact smartwatch with an aluminum frame and plastic bottom. The watch is 9.1mm in thick and is ultra-light at 19 grams. It even has 5 ATM water resistance, so you can take it to a swimming pool.

Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro go official in Nepal with Dual-band GPS for runners

2

Amazfit announced its new Cheetah Series with the Cheetah and Cheetah Pro smartwatches a few months back. These are primarily focused on runners and athletes. The Amazfit Cheetah and Pro have now made their way to Nepal. Okay, so let’s get straight into the specs, features, and official price of Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro in Nepal.

Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro Overview:

Design and Display

In terms of design, the Cheetah Pro bears a circular body with a Titanium alloy built for a premium look. To keep some chunks off, Amazfit has used a fiber-reinforced polymer for the middle frame. Getting the strap, it’s a 22m nylon one and an adjustable length of 150-220mm.

The Amazfit Cheetah on the other hand comes in two shapes: round and square. The bezels on the round one are made of fiber-reinforced polymer whereas the square one features aluminum alloy bezels. Both these versions come with a liquid silicone strap. Likewise, you get a classic crown button and navigation key on the right side of both watches.

Getting to the display, the circular rim on the Pro houses a 1.45-inch AMOLED panel with 480 x 480 resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This display is rated for 1000 units of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Amazfit Cheetah (Round) gets a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen of 454 x 454 resolution and 326 PPI. On the other hand, Cheetah (Square) has a 1.75-inch AMOLED screen of 390 x 450 resolution and 341 PPI.

Made for Runners

The key highlight of the Amazfit Cheetah series has to be the Zepp Coach powered by AI. The coach provides personalized running schedules and plans as per the user’s goals. Likewise, the adjustments will be done on a week-to-week basis as per the runner’s achievement.

Zepp Coach AI Powered
Zepp Coach AI

The Zepp Coach will introduce an AI Chatbot in some markets as a demo program. Amazfit plans to apply a subscription-based model later on. So, the generative AI will be able to take voice and text commands. Thus, the brand ensures the experience is like a real-life one-on-one coaching session. Besides that, you also get Virtual Pacer, Racee Achievement Prediction, and Run Track Mode.

Dual Band GPS

For outdoor actions, the smartwatch packs a dual-band GPS antenna for accurate positioning and tracking. The GPS antenna is claimed to pick up 100% satellite signals with support for L1 and L5 signals. Assisting the runners is the offline maps feature alongside an option to save location points.

Amazfit Cheetah Pro Offline Maps

Health and Tracking Features

As usual, these smart wearables consist of a bunch of health and fitness tracking features. You get heart rate monitoring, SpO2 measurement, sleep tracking, stress monitoring, and so on. Both watches use BioTracker 3.0 PPG sensor for continuous monitoring alongside one-tap measurements for heart rate, SpO2, and stress.

Both Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro support 150 plus indoor and outdoor sports modes. Moreover, the wearables support automatic workout detection for 25-strength exercises.

Battery Life and Others

Running the power on is a 440mAh battery on the Pro and Round versions. It is rated for a 14-day battery life in a typical usage scenario. On the other hand, the Amazfit Cheetah square version has to make do with a 240 mAh battery, giving only 8 days of typical usage. Sadly, this battery limitation comes bundled with square versions of the watches.

Talking of other features, the Pro version also supports WiFi, Bluetooth call, and audio playback from the watch itself. While the non-pro variant misses out on these. Furthermore, the Amazfit Cheetah and Cheetah Pro connect to your smartphone via the Zepp App by using Bluetooth 5.3.

Amazfit Cheetah, Cheetah Pro Specifications:

  • Dimension:
    • Cheetah (Round): 46.7 x 46.7 x 11.9mm, 32 grams
    • Cheetah (Square): 44 x 38.7 x 9.9mm, 25 grams

CG bringing Nothing Tech products to Nepal, will it succeed?

0

Nothing is a new brand created by Car Pei in 2020, the Co-founder of OnePlus which created quite a hype with its transparent design Nothing Ear (1) and Nothing Phone (1). The device did launch here but at a hefty price tag, compared to India. But things might finally change now. CG, the multi-billion Nepalese company is bringing Nothing Tech products to Nepal officially. More about CG Nothing partnership in this article.

CG bringing Nothing Products in Nepal:

Nirvana Chaudhary’s Tweet

Nirvana Chaudhary, son of business tycoon Binod Chaudhary and VC of the Chaudhary Foundation tweeted about the partnership with Nothing Tech brand. Yes, you heard it right, Nothing is finally entering Nepal very soon, officially.

Nothing Brand Overview:

Nothing is a Britain-based brand founded by Swedish entrepreneur Carl Pie. The genius behind OnePlus’s success, he was also the co-founder of the Chinese company. After exiting OnePlus, Pei went on to establish Nothing, and its first product, the Nothing Ear (1) garnered a wide range of attention. Which led to the smash hit success of the Nothing Phone (1). Its recent additions, the Nothing Phone (2) and Ear (2) are also quite popular in the market.

Right Pricing for Nothing Products finally?

Well, it’s not that we are seeing the Nothing products getting launched here for the first time. Tech Studio, the official importer of Nothing devices has already launched the Nothing Phone (1) Nothing Ear Stick and Nothing Ear (2) in Nepal. However, the pricing is on the higher side. For instance, the Phone (1) was priced at INR 29,999 (NPR 48,000) for the 8/128GB trim in India.

Nothing Phone 1 - Design 1
Nothing Phone (1)

While the very same version costs NPR 58,999 here. The same story repeats for Nothing Ear (2) which costs NPR 21,999 here in Nepal as compared to INR 9,999 (NPR 16,000) in India.

So, will we get to see competitive and right pricing for Nothing products finally? We can’t be 100% sure as of now. But CG is the super big business group of Nepal plus one of the highest taxpayers in Nepal. So, as an official distributor, CG technically can get the pricing right.

Plus the smartphone market is already dominated by big players such as Xiaomi/Redmi, Samsung, Vivo, Realme, and Oppo. So, competitive pricing is the key to penetrating the already crowded market. And CG needs to implement this with the Nothing products.

What about the CMF brand by Nothing?

For starters, Nothing recently brought a subbrand by the name CMF by Nothing with three products: Buds Pro, Watch Pro, and Power 65W GaN. As known, Nothing products are quite on the premium side. So, CMF is here to bring quality products at a much more affordable price tag than the mainstream Nothing products.

CMF Watch Pro Design and Display
CMF Watch Pro

So, will the CMF products land officially in Nepal as well? The tweet hasn’t mentioned anything about it though. But as the brand lies under Nothing, there is a high chance of CMF products hitting the online plus brick-and-mortar stores in Nepal.

Will CG finally succeed in the smartphone market?

To turn some pages back, CG’s track in the smartphone market is not that astonishing. The business giant did introduce its own CG brand of phones but didn’t go quite well. So, will it finally be successful as an official distributor of Nothing Tech products? The answer lies in the competitive pricing and modality for sure.

Honor X5 Plus Review: Cheap and fine at the price!

0

Catering to the growing budget market in Nepal, Honor has unveiled two affordable smartphones simultaneously: the X5 Plus and its sibling, the X6a. On paper, both phones look pretty similar, with the exception of the rear camera setup. I had the opportunity to spend a week with the more affordable of the two, the Honor X5 Plus. Here are my insights and experiences with the device.

Honor X5 Plus Review: Specification

  • Display: 6.56″ TFT LCD, 90Hz refresh rate, 16.7 million colors
  • Resolution: HD+ (720 × 1612), 20.15:9
  • Dimension and Weight: 163.32 x 75.07 x 8.35mm, 188g
  • Chipset: MediaTek Helio G36 (12nm)
  • CPU: Octa-core (4 [email protected] +4 [email protected])
  • GPU: IMG GE8320
  • Memory: 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage (expandable up to 1TB)
  • OS: MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13
  • SIM: Dual Nano SIM
  • Back Camera: Dual camera setup (50 MP camera (f/1.8)+depth camera (f/2.4))
  • Front Camera: 5 MP Camera (f/2.2)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.1, WiFi, GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, NFC, Type-C USB 2.0
  • Battery: 5200mAh LiPo

Honor X5 Plus Review:

Design

  • 163.32×75.07×8.35mm, 188g
  • The fingerprint sensor on the power button

The design looks like just another phone. I would say it is not bad, but the camera at the back is just the same as any other device I have seen from Redmi, Realme, and so on.

While the Honor X5 Plus is a relatively big phone, its portability was never an issue in my experience. Thanks to a plastic build, it weighs less than 190 grams and the weight distribution isn’t too bad either. Additionally, the fingerprint embedded in the power button is quick.

Display

  • 6.56″ TFT LCD, 16.7 million colors
  • HD+ (720×1612 px), 20.15:9
  • 90Hz refresh rate

The Honor X5 Plus features a 6.56-inch TFT panel with 720×1612 px resolution—a pretty normal-sized screen and a fairly sharp one for the price. That being said, it’s still not a full-HD panel, which would have been nice to have.

The bezels are manageable, but the chin is noticeably large. But even with that, content consumption is perfectly okay and enjoyable on this device. Moreover, this might be the only smartphone bringing 90 Hz below the cost of NPR 15,500.

Honor X5 Plus Review Display

Screen doesn’t reach the maximum refresh rate very often

Though I just praised the X5 Plus for bringing a 90Hz panel, the sad truth is that it rarely hits that mark. This might be because the phone uses an entry-level chip, which might not be powerful enough to push those frames. Which brings us to…

Performance

The performance is a bit on the compromise side. The phone is slow, but there is a separate performance mode, which helps a little bit. Despite that, the lag is hard to ignore, and most games and even the UI itself crashed a few times in my testing. The reason might be partly due to the unit featuring a full-fledged Magic OS.

This kinda soured my taste buds since I wasn’t expecting it to be ‘that’ bad. On the bright side, I had no problem scrolling through social media and browsing videos.

OS

I like the design of the system apps, especially the control center, even though it looks like Honor tried to somewhat mimic iOS. The settings, notes, and phone app all are quite pleasing! Honor’s Magic OS is pleasing enough for me to give it a green flag at this price point.

Honor X5 Plus Review OS

Camera

  • Back: 50 MP (f/1.8) main camera, (f/2.4) depth camera
  • Front: 5 MP (f/2.2)

Honor X5 Plus Review Camera

In short, cannot complain but average>>>

Daytime

The photos from the Honor X5 Plus are ok-ish for the price. They lack sharpness, and the shadows are fully dark. Additionally, the exposure management is quite bad. But well, you cannot complain considering the price! Another thing is that the Honor X5 Plus’ shutter speed seems quite slow, so a little shake might ruin the whole image.

Even with the dedicated HDR mode, it cannot handle exposures and shadows reliably. However, one clear win is that the phone can focus on one object while maintaining the lighting for another object, but it is more of a work of OS than the camera itself. And the 2x digital zoom is okay!

There is also a dedicated Hi-Res mode, but you lose quite a lot of processing.

Portraits

Honor offers two modes in this department: portrait and aperture. And to be frank, I didn’t notice much difference between the two. The portraits come out decent with good edge detection, some amount of detail, and vibrant colors. Both do the same job, though you can click the image without bokeh in portrait mode. I can safely say that the Honor X5 Plus takes decent portraits at its cost.

Selfies

Selfies do not look natural. The skin tones look a bit white-washed.

Same with the selfie portraits; the skins are a little whitish. Exposure maintenance is another thing that budget smartphones lack, and this time is no exception.

Night

Lowlight performance is no stunner either! There is no special mode dedicated to it, plus it cannot maintain lights and darks. Nonetheless, the sunset photo turned out to be decent.

Battery

  • 5200mAh LiPo
  • 10W charging

Moving onto endurance, the Honor X5 Plus has satisfactory battery life. I ran the phone in ‘Performance’ mode all the time, and even then, this gave me more than a day’s worth of use. However, charging it back with the included adapter (10W) is sloo…oow and takes about two full hours.

Honor X5 Plus Review Charging

Honor X5 Plus Review: Conclusion

So, there are quite a lot of compromises being made here. The device provides the best refresh rate you can get at this price, a quality OS experience, and a good battery life. But all these are overshadowed by the laggy performance, leading the screen to not reach its maximum threshold most of the time, slower charging, and average cameras.

A better phone would be the Redmi 12C at a much cheaper price. This substitute provides better performance and a better camera. Charging is similar, though! And, for the best camera in the price range, go for the Samsung A04. However, if you can, I would highly recommend adding an extra 2.5k and gunning it for the Redmi 12 (review) which is better than all of the above and brings a well-rounded package at an affordable price.

Honor X5 Plus: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Good design
  • Quality OS experience
  • Excellent battery life

Cons

  • Subpar performance
  • Slow charging
  • Mediocre cameras

Will your Samsung phone get Android 14 (One UI 6.0) update? Check here

1

Samsung released public beta builds of One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 in August. And finally, they have released the stable version of the firmware alongside the October 1 security patch. The update was based on One UI Beta 9 and got a few improvements before getting a stable release.

The company hasn’t publicized an official list of the devices getting this update. However, based on Samsung’s well-documented software commitment, we have a pretty clear idea of which Samsung phones and tablets will be getting the One UI 6.0 update based on Android 14.

Samsung One UI 6.0 Update roadmap

Needless to say, the S23 series got the stable upgrade to the new Android 14 first. The older flagships and mid-range Galaxy devices will receive the update in the coming months.

For now, here are some Samsung phones and tablets that have already received the OneUI 6.0 update and some that are confirmed to be updated soon:

Already rolled out

Eligible devices

But let me remind you once again that this Samsung One UI 6.0 update roadmap is not the final one. And Samsung will add more devices to this list in the coming days. We’ll keep updating the article when new information becomes available, along with all the new features in Samsung’s latest Android skin.

Samsung One UI 6.0 Update Overview:

QOL

There are many tiny upgrades in this new version of Samsung’s One UI. Some of them include QOL updates for system apps such as Camera, Photo Editor, Calendar, Samsung Internet, and My Files, just to name a few. Their video editor has been renamed to Studio. You can check out the list of features on their official website here.

Significant upgrades

The most obvious of the upgrades in One UI 6 is the expanded quick panel, which was completely revamped. The emojis on the Samsung keyboard were also redesigned. You will have more options to customize the lock screen, including shifting the clock anywhere. Plus, with Bixby text calls, you can turn a voice call into a chat conversation.

What about tablets?

After the update, Samsung Tab users can use Samsung Dex with the same home screen layout. Additionally, you can link the tablet to a Windows PC using the Link to Windows app.

Honor becomes the TOP smartphone brand in China!

0

There are two major heavyweights in the global smartphone scene — Samsung, and Apple. However, the landscape is entirely different in the People’s Republic of China. The competition among the smartphone manufacturers is much more fiercer there. And, according to a recent report from Canalys, Honor has become the top smartphone brand in China. Let’s discuss further, shall we?

HONOR — the “top” smartphone brand in China

Who this?

Firstly, let’s talk about Honor briefly. So, initially, Honor was a sub-brand of Huawei. The devices both these companies offered were similar down to the teeth. However, there was one major differentiating factor — the aesthetic. Huawei usually went with minimal and professional design, targeting a wider audience. Whereas, Honor had more flair, was all about the fashion statement, and targeted a younger cohort.

Huawei and Honor

Things went south after the US imposed a trade ban on Huawei citing various reasons. This led to a rapid downfall of Huawei and in order to deal with the situation they sold off Honor to Shenzen Zhixin New Information Technology in late 2020. This gave Honor a separate identity. And, since then the two brands even compete with each other in their home market.

Let’s talk graphs

Canalys recently released its report on Mainland China’s smartphone market till the end of the third quarter of 2023. And, as per the report, Honor is leading the pack with 11.8 million smartphone shipments and an 18% market share. OPPO, Apple, and Vivo follow suit — all of them capturing 16% of total sales each. Similarly, Xiaomi and Huawei come after them at nearly 10% occupancy.

How is Honor on top?

The graph shows very tough competition and constant change in rankings of these smartphone companies over time. The scenario is completely different from the global scene — where Samsung, and Apple cover anywhere from a third to half of the total smartphone sales. Meanwhile, it is speculated that Honor came out on top this time due to the introduction of its three new foldable offerings. In the meantime, Apple saw a drop in demand, probably due to China banning iPhones for government officials. This probably favoured Honor in one way or another.

Conclusion

Even though Honor is the top smartphone brand in China right now, it doesn’t really mean much. If we look at the graph earlier, the top spot is occupied by a different company in every other quarter. Given that Honor doesn’t have a substantial gap with its closest competitor, it will more than likely be outpaced by some other smartphone manufacturer in the next quarter.
