TSMC unveils groundbreaking 1.6nm process nodes

TSMC has announced its latest 1.6nm manufacturing process node, dubbed A16. This groundbreaking technology marks a significant leap in semiconductor manufacturing, incorporating gate-all-around nanosheet transistors and an innovative backside power delivery network. Advanced Transistor Technology and Power Delivery

The A16 node utilizes GAAFET (gate-all-around field-effect transistor) nanosheet transistors, offering enhanced performance and energy efficiency compared to previous nodes. Additionally, TSMC has introduced backside power delivery network (BSPDN) technology, which further improves power efficiency and transistor density.

Technical Advantages

The A16 process integrates a backside power rail (Super Power Rail – SPR), enhancing power delivery and increasing transistor density. This combination of GAAFET transistors and BSPDN technology results in notable improvements:

Colorful EVOL P15 with three options launched in India

Colorful is a Chinese brand that is also a strategic partner of NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel in China. The company recently launched three new laptops in the Indian market with multiple processor options. In this article, we will be discussing the Colorful EVOL P15 in greater detail including its expected price in Nepal.

Colorful EVOL P15 Overview

Design and Display

The Colorful EVOL P15 comes in a beefy outlook with the lid linear patterns. It has a back with exhaust vents and select ports. In the meantime, it has two hinges on either side and has a gap between the screen and the rest of the body. Similarly, it ships in Steel Blue, Grey, and Black colour options and comes with an RGB keyboard.

On the front, the Colorful EVOL P15 comes with two screen options. Either an FHD+ resolution with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels or a QHD option with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Moreover, you get a 15.6-inch screen with an IPS panel, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a 100% sRGB colour gamut.

HMD launches three new phones and says “Repair It Yourself”

Do you remember the good ol’ days when you could repair your phone without breaking a sweat? HMD surely does! The Finnish company just launched three new phones under the Pulse lineup that you can “Repair It Yourself”. These phones have very minimal differences from one another. Thus we will cover the entire HMD Pulse series its specifications, price in Nepal, and more in this one article.

HMD Pulse Series Overview

Design and Display

The HMD Pulse series all come in a uniform design with a monotone finish and a rounded rectangular camera island. The island hoses two round camera cutouts with a flash on the side. These phones have an all-flat design and come with IP52 water resistance.

The lowest variant is available in Dreamy Pink, Meteor Black, and Atmos Blue shades. Similarly, the “+” option comes in Apricot Crush, Midnight Black, and Glacier Green colours. Lastly, the highest variant i.e. the Pro model ships in Glacier Green, Black Ocean, and Twilight Purple finishes.

On the front, you get a 6.65-inch HID display all across the board. Additionally, it offers an HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and 600 nits of peak brightness. Other than that, the panel is capable of 70% NTSC colour gamut.

Performance

Under the helm, the entire HMD Pulse series packs the UNISOC T606 chipset. It is not a very performance-centric chip, but, it preserves quite a bit of battery instead. Moreover, it comes in a 12-nanometre fabrication with eight cores and a peak clock speed of just 1.6 GHz. In the meantime, all three phones boot on Android 14 and will receive two OS and three years of security updates.

The phones in the HMD Pulse series vary from each other in the memory and storage department. The titular phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. This phone offers up to 6GB of virtual RAM and up to 256GB of external storage support.

Similarly, the HMD Pulse+ also comes with 4GB memory while the ROM is double the capacity at 128GB. This phone also offers up to additional storage support of up to 256GB while you can extend the memory up to 8GB. Lastly, the highest variant comes with 6GB and 256GB memory and storage combo. Meanwhile, the expandability option includes up to 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage via MicroSD card.

Camera and the rest

The cameras are one of the major differentiating factors of the three phones. The HMD Pulse comes with a 13MP shooter on the back and an 8MP camera up front. Likewise, the + model takes the resolution of the rear shooter to 50MP while the selfie camera remains unchanged at 8MP. Both these models have a dummy cutout on the back that serves no purpose other than for decoration.

Contrarily, the HMD Pulse Pro has a 2MP auxiliary lens used as a depth sensor. Meanwhile, the main as well as the front camera on this model are both 50MP units.

In the tank, all the members of the HMD Pulse series pack a 5,000 mAh battery. While the lower two variants make do with the standard 10W charging, the Pro version enjoys 20W fast charging support.

Other than that, all the phones come with 4G cellular, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, and NFC support for wireless connectivity. On the other hand, they have a USB 2.0 Type-C port as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired connections. Lastly, they come with a sole speaker and microphone setup along with a fingerprint scanner on the power button for biometric security.

Repairability

The main highlight of the HMD Pulse smartphone series is, well, repairability. You can repair these phones by yourself at home. For this, one can visit the HMD Phones Repair Hub on Ifixit.com and get the spare parts and step-by-step guide on the repair process.

The company mentions the screen, the charging port, the back panel, and the battery as the replaceable components on the overview page. It is not known if any other components follow the same route.

iQOO launches the “x” variant of the Z9 for the budget-conscious consumers

iQOO launched the Z9 5G with Dimensity 7200 and IMX 882 sensor last month. Now the company is adding two more smartphones to offer an entire series. In this article, we will discuss the series’ lower member i.e. iQOO Z9x 5G in greater detail including its expected price in Nepal.

iQOO Z9x 5G Overview

Design and Display

The iQOO Z9x 5G looks quite similar to its standard variant. It has a squircle camera island with two camera cutouts. The cutouts here are also squircle in shape. While this phone might be the most affordable option among the series, it does not skip on the build quality. It comes with an aluminium frame along with customised shock-absorbing materials inside. Meanwhile, it comes with IP64 water and dust resistance and ships in Northern Green, Mystic Black, and Star White colours.

On the front, you get a 6.72-inch display donned with tempered glass for additional protection. The panel on the iQOO Z9x 5G is an LCD with FHD resolution. Other than that, it can reach a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz. You also get a DC dimming feature and TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification.

Performance

For performance, the iQOO Z9x 5G relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. It is a 4nm chip that comes with eight cores, and a peak clock speed of 2.2GHz. Furthermore, it packs an Adreno 710 GPU to handle the graphical duties of the phone.
