Qualcomm confirms the launch date of upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset

Rumors are buzzing about Qualcomm’s eagerly awaited flagship chipset, hinting at impressive performance and its imminent launch date. In this article, we will discuss the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, including its availability, confirmed details, and more.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4  Rumors

Official Announcement

Snapdragon summit

Qualcomm has officially announced that its Snapdragon Summit 2024 will take place from October 24th to 26th in Maui, Hawaii. This annual event typically serves as the platform for unveiling the company’s next-generation flagship mobile processor, and this year will spotlight the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor.

Processor Specifications

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be manufactured by TSMC on a 3nm node and will feature custom Oryon CPU cores. Unlike its predecessor, the 8 Gen 3’s 1 + 3 + 4 layout, the new chip will reportedly have a 2 + 6 design with no efficiency cores. The two high-performance cores are said to have a peak clock speed of 4GHz, scoring over 3,000 points in single-core and 10,000 points in multi-core tests in Geekbench.

An upgraded GPU architecture with improved cache and memory compression technology is also expected, promising better performance.

Performance Potential?

Leaked information from Digital Chat Station suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 excels in handling demanding tasks, such as running the popular mobile game Genshin Impact at 1080p resolution smoothly and maintaining a stable frame rate, which is quite impressive for such a demanding title.

Digital chat solution

However, leaked information also suggests that the chipset faced challenges during testing. An engineering sample reportedly experienced heavy CPU throttling, potentially impacting its overall performance.

Benchmarking Insights

Recent tests of an early version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip showed it didn’t perform as well as expected due to a problem with the CPU slowing down. People are saying the chip might have 6 powerful parts and 2 parts that work more efficiently but at different speeds.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 benchmarks

There’s talk about making changes to help the chip stay cool and work better. People are comparing it to other new chips like the Dimensity 9300+ and Dimensity 9400, showing that the competition among mobile processors is getting fierce.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Availability

Xiaomi is expected to announce the Xiaomi 15 series soon after the Snapdragon Summit, making it the first smartphone to feature this latest flagship chipset. OnePlus and iQOO are also rumored to be preparing their OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13 lines, respectively, powered by the new Qualcomm chip.

How to upgrade to Ncell’s eSIM in Nepal, Learn it here

1

Nepal Telecom (NTC) was the first telco to kick off its eSIM service in September 2022. And on November 25, 2022, Nepal’s second-largest telecom operator, Ncell launched eSIM to its customers as well. As expected, the company made the process of upgrading to eSIM completely free. So in this post, we’ll be discussing everything about the latest process of Ncell eSIM upgrade in Nepal, including the process of getting an eSIM, device compatibility, and more.

What is an eSIM?

Before moving forward, let us first understand what an eSIM is. Short for Embedded SIM, an eSIM does everything a regular, physical SIM card does. The only difference is that its chip is embedded (hence the name) into the circuit board of your phone, smartwatch, M2M (machine to machine), or other devices. So unlike the traditional micro and nano SIM cards we’re used to, you can’t physically remove this digital SIM from a device. But since this is a relatively costlier chip-level implementation, eSIM is predominantly supported only on flagship handsets.

Evolution of SIM cards

Anyway, with a compatible device, setting up an eSIM is as easy as downloading an eSIM profile and then installing it onto your phone. And because the information on an eSIM is rewritable, you can store multiple eSIM profiles with multiple phone numbers or operators on your phone. That means you will now technically be able to switch between multiple Ncell and NTC numbers on one phone without having to physically carry all their SIM cards.

Advantages of eSIM

  • Easier to switch between networks
  • Better device security
  • Frees up space in a device

Disadvantages of eSIM

  • Easier to track
  • Only available on high-end devices
  • Limited global availability

Ncell eSIM implementation in Nepal

As I mentioned, Ncell officially initiated its eSIM service on November 25, 2022, in Nepal. NTC requires you to physically visit one of its offices to upgrade to eSIM, Ncell has made this process incredibly more convenient. And sensible (shots fired). If your SIM is registered under your name, you can simply send an SMS (for free) in the following format requesting the eSIM upgrade.

  • <citizenship number>,<email id>
  • So your text should look something like this:
  • And send the SMS to 17125

Ncell eSIM - Promo

And once a Ncell representative verifies your information, you will be notified if your current SIM can be converted to an eSIM or not. After that, a QR code with your eSIM profile will be emailed to you. On the other hand, you can also choose to visit your nearest Ncell Centre to upgrade to eSIM.

What if I have a corporate Ncell SIM?

For corporate numbers, the process to get an Ncell eSIM is a bit different. You’ll either need to submit a letter requesting eSIM conversion using your employing company’s letterhead to a Ncell Centre. Or you can send a scanned copy of the request letter to your Ncell account manager as well. And make sure that the request letter covers information like your current number, email address, and an alternate number (if available).

Does my phone support Ncell or NTC eSIM?

As I mentioned earlier, eSIM support is usually restricted to flagship smartphones. That too of certain brands only.

  • To verify whether your phone is eSIM compatible or not, you can dial *#06#.
  • If you see an EID (Embedded Identification Information) value besides your phone’s IMEI number(s), then that means it supports eSIM.
  • This information is also available on your phone’s settings or the product page itself. And according to Ncell, the following smartphones are guaranteed to support its eSIM:

How to install an Ncell or NTC eSIM profile?

  • To set up an eSIM (whether you have an Android or iOS device), open up the Settings menu and search for “Add Mobile Plan” (Android) or “Add Cellular Plan” (iPhone).
  • This option might have a different name depending on the Android smartphone manufacturer, but you should find it under the “SIM Card Manager” menu inside Settings.
  • Now, you will get an option to scan a QR code with your eSIM profile. Just follow the on-screen instructions to customize the plan name if required. And voilà, your Ncell eSIM is ready!

Some Frequently Asked Questions about Ncell eSIM

Does upgrading to Ncell eSIM incur any charges?

No, upgrading to a Ncell eSIM is free and doesn’t incur any charges.

How many Ncell eSIMs can I buy?

You can buy up to three Ncell eSIMs which is just the same as the physical SIMs.

How to check if my device supports eSIM or not?

You can check by dialing *#06#. If it shows an Embedded Identity Document (EID), your device supports eSIM. If it only shows IMEI, MEID, ICCID, or MSISDN, your device only supports physical support.

What are the call and data charges on an eSIM?

Call and data charges on an eSIM are the same as on a physical SIM. No extra charges!

Deal Alert! Asus ProArt Professional Monitor is now a lot cheaper in Nepal!

Just a while back, we curated a list of the best monitors available at every price range and for every kind of user in Nepal. Noticeably, not a single designer/professional display made it there because while some were beyond expensive, others were just to hard to get your hands on reliably. But now, an Asus ProArt Display has made its way to Nepal for a very appealing price!

In this article let’s take a look at the Asus ProArt 27 Professional Monitor, its specs, features, price in Nepal, and availability.

Asus ProArt Display PA27QV Price in Nepal and Availability

The Asus ProArt display price in Nepal was NPR 86,250 when it first launched a few months back. It is now available via Hukut for just NPR 60,000.

Asus Monitor Price in Nepal (Previously) Price in Nepal (Offer) Availability
Pro Art PA278QV NPR 86,250 NPR 59,999 Hukut

ASUS ProArt Display 278QV Overview:

Panel Tech and Resolution

The PA278QV Professional Monitor features a 27-inch IPS panel of WQHD resolution. What that means is that you get nice viewing angles, and crisp details, alongside a relatively large canvas area. 2560 x 1440 pixels in a 27-inch monitor roughly gives you a pixel density of 109 PPI which is sharp enough for professional use besides just retaining more details. It can also go up to 75Hz to provide a smoother and more fluid user experience.

AsusProArt Display Adjustments

Colors and Accuracy

Being a designer panel, you get great color coverage that spans the whole of REC 709 space (including 100% sRGB). Colors are represented well with a delta E value of less than 2. Furthermore, the ProArt monitor is factory calibrated to spew accurate colors, and its calman verification is a testament to the same.

Asus ProArt 27 monitor colors

Moreover, you can switch between different color modes (notably sRGB and Rec 709) for reading, use in low light, or rapid rendering.

IO and Features

Moving onto the IO, there isn’t any wow factor here but you get your basic HDMI, and display ports. There’s a mini display port, a power jack, and a USB A hub as well. Since you aren’t going to be pushing very high fps, or that many pixels, the HDMI and DP aren’t the latest and greatest at generation 1.4 and 1.2 respectively.

There are also some extra features like Asus ProArt Palette which lets you customize your display’s color hue, temperature, and gamma levels. There’s also ASUS ‘ultra low-blue light’ and ASUS ‘Flicker Free’ tech that protect your vision and prevent eye strain, headaches, and fatigue.

ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV Specifications:

  • Display Size: 27inch
  • Display Panel: IPS panel
  • Resolution: WQHD (2560x 1440 pixels), 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Color Gamut: 100% sRGB and 100% Rec. 709

X-Age ConvE Serene launched in Nepal with open-air fit

0

X-Age, the Nepal-based accessories brand has brought a new pair of open ear earbuds in Nepal. Dubbed the ConvE Serene-XOSW1, these earbuds come in a budget price range and up to 6 hours of battery life. Without further ado, let’s get into the specs, features, and official price of the XAge ConvE Serene in Nepal.

X-Age ConvE Serene Overview:

Design and Build

In terms of design, the X-Age ConvE Serene boasts an open-air design, which is obviously bigger than your usual pair of wireless earphones. You get touch controls on both sides and LED indicators with the X-Age logo imprinted in between. The bottom part of the hook houses a battery on each side. Moreover, X-Age has also provided an IPX5 rating against sweat and water splashes.

X-Age ConvE Serene Open air earbuds

The charging case is also notably bigger here with a matte black shade and LED indicators on the bottom side. Likewise, a USB-C port is present on the right side for juicing up the case.

Audio

As an open-ear earbud, the ConvE Serene doesn’t fit straight into your ear canals. It hovers over your ear canals instead and delivers audio. These kinds of earbuds come in two types: bone conduction and air conduction technology. And this guy follows the latter one. Either way, open ear earbuds cannot block out external noises or in other words, you can hear your outdoors too while listening to music.

X-Age ConvE Serene Fit

The audio here is fired by 14mm large drivers but during my testing, the audio quality was just on the average side, nothing extraordinary. Well, it’s an open-air fit so, it wouldn’t be as good as an in-ear earbud.

Battery and Connectivity

Moving on, these open-air earbuds carry a 70mAh battery on each side while the case has a 450mAh battery to keep things running. X-Age promises a 6-hour battery life at full volume and a combined playback of 28 hours with the case. Meanwhile,  the charging case will be fully charged in one hour as claimed by the company.

X-Age ConvE Serene with Charging Box

In terms of connectivity, it relies on Bluetooth 5.3 and supports both Android and iOS platforms.

X-Age ConvE Serene Price in Nepal and Availability

The official X-Age ConvE Serene price in Nepal is NPR 2,499 as part of the launch offer. Otherwise, its official price is NPR 5,499. You can buy it on Hukut and other platforms in Nepal.

New Redmi earbuds with spatial audio will soon be available

Xiaomi just listed a new earbuds under its Redmi sub-brand. These audio accessories will have support for spatial audio while still being available at a more affordable price point. Let’s discuss the Redmi Buds 6S in further detail including its expected price in Nepal.

Redmi Buds 6S

Design

The latest Redmi earbuds come in a semi-in-ear fit with a stemmed design. These buds have a slight slit on the top of the hearing unit, whose purpose is unclear. In terms of finishing, the Redmi Buds 6S comes in a mix of glossy and matte textures. The company has created a sort of ovular matte boundary adding a uniqueness to the design of these buds.

In the meantime, they lay flat inside their charging case which is rectangular with curved edges. It flaunts the company branding on its lid, which appears to be slightly reflective. Other than that, it has a USB Type-C port on the front for charging. Redmi has not mentioned any sort of IP rating for the Buds 6S or its case. Hence, it is probably not resistant to dust or water. Besides, the whole package is available in Clear White Snow, Midnight Black, and Star Ocean Blue colour options.

Audio and the rest

The audio on the Redmi Buds 6S is handled by 14.2mm dual dynamic drivers with 0.45mm amplitude. These earbuds boast the NetEase Cloud Audio certification for clear sound quality. Additionally, they pack dual-microphone offering background as well as wind noise reduction during calls. Furthermore, you even get two levels of noise reduction as per your needs.

Redmi Buds 6S Battery

These earbuds offer simultaneous dual device connection and further accessibility via the Xiaomi Earbuds app. Other than that, these earbuds also come with a handful of features exclusive to high-end Xiaomi and Redmi devices. This includes the likes of Spatial Audio, SoundID custom sound effects, and Xiaomi Hyper Connect audio streaming. Lastly, Redmi claims seven hours of independent and 33 hours of combined battery life on the Buds 6S at 50% volume.

Are you ready for AI — Apple Intelligence? Here’s everything you need to know

0

AI is surely the next big thing in the tech world. Google and Samsung made it a key highlight on their latest phones. The same could not be said about Apple — or so it seemed. It turns out the company was working on it behind the scenes and has finally unveiled its take — Apple Intelligence! Let’s discuss.

Apple Intelligence Overview

Naming

Well, it is an open secret that Apple avoids using certain words when dealing with its products. Whether it be Apple execs when pitching a new product to the world or CSRs dealing with issues customers are facing with their devices. One such word is “AI” or “Artificial Intelligence” — they rather phrase it as “Machine Learning”.

This time around, they did use AI, but kept it very minimal. Likewise, it was expected that Apple wouldn’t be blunt like, say Samsung, and call its artificial intelligence something like “Galaxy AI”. The company has gone with “Apple Intelligence” instead, which when you shorten it just becomes AI too. Quite funny, if you ask me.

What is in the ‘Box’?

On-Device AI Processing

The new Apple Intelligence features leverage on-device processing, allowing users to access information across devices without sending data to external servers. This ensures privacy and security by keeping user data on the device.

Private Cloud Compute

Apple also introduced private cloud computing capabilities, enabling access to larger AI models while safeguarding user privacy. This feature utilises servers built with Apple Silicon and ensures that user data is not stored or sent to Apple without explicit permission.

Siri Revamp

The American tech giant enhanced Siri with AI-powered features, enabling natural language queries for tasks like scheduling and email management. The improved understanding of contextual cues and routines across apps and devices.

Hey Siri

Chatbox (LLM) Integration

Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT-like LLM for natural language processing and assistance. This collaboration provides personalised responses and recommendations based on user interactions.

Genmoji

A new feature called Genmoji generates personalised emojis using AI algorithms. Users can create emojis resembling themselves or others, enhancing expression and communication in messaging apps and social media platforms.

Document Assistance

Likewise, Apple Intelligence enables easy retrieval of documents and autofill for forms using Siri. This feature enhances productivity by utilising personal documents stored in photos for autofill functionality.

Image and Text Editing

Image generate

AI-powered image editing tools are here! You can use them for enhancing photos and converting sketches into high-quality images. Similarly, AI algorithms are employed for text editing, including proofreading and adjusting tone.

Call Transcripts and Privacy Focus

The new AI features include call transcription and summarization capabilities, facilitating communication and documentation. Throughout these features, Apple emphasises privacy and security, ensuring that user data remains protected and confidential.

Personalisation and Cross-App Integration

Apple Intelligence adapts to user preferences and behaviours over time, providing personalised responses and recommendations. Moreover, various in-house as well as third-party apps and services will be able to tap into these AI features and enhance the user experience.

Apple Intelligence Launch and Availability

Apple announced their new AI features i.e. Apple Intelligence at the WWDC 2024 event held on 10 June 2024. It will be available at no extra cost but it will be exclusive to devices running on A17 Pro chips and M series of processors. This means older iPhone models and the iPhone 15 sadly won’t be getting Apple Intelligence.

These features will debut in beta for the US and English iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia users will have to wait till autumn for their turns. Apple also announced plans for subsequent feature releases and expanded language support in the following year.
