OnePlus Nord N300 official with Dimensity 810 5G, 48MP camera

0

OnePlus has announced its latest phone of the affordable Nord series in the US. The newly announced Nord N300 succeeds last year’s Nord N200 5G and brings a bigger display, faster chip, and faster charging among other upgrades. So, let’s walk through the specs, features, expected price, and availability of the OnePlus Nord N300 in Nepal.

OnePlus Nord N300 Overview:

To being with, OnePlus Nord N300 is not a phone built from the ground up. Like many other budget and mid-range phones in the Nord lineup, OnePlus Nord N300 is a rebranded Oppo phone. You can find the Nord N300 listed as Oppo A77 5G in many Asian markets. There is also a 4G variant of the phone available in Nepal.

Design and Display

That aside, let’s talk about the design. OnePlus Nord N300 looks like a premium phone with its rear matte finish. The sides are flat and the edges round. OnePlus is offering the phone in two color options: Black and Blue.

Over on the front, OnePlus Nord N300 features a 6.56-inch LCD screen with a waterdrop notch. While the screen is bigger, it makes the phone look outdated even when compared to its predecessor because of the notch. The refresh rate is unchanged at 90Hz but the resolution is reduced to just HD+.

Performance and Memory

Under the hood, OnePlus Nord N300 packs the MediaTek Dimensity 810 chip. It is a 6nm chip with two Cortex-A76 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. The chip is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.2 storage. You can even expand the latter using an external SD card but that means giving up on the dual-SIM functionality.

Camera

The dual-tone rectangular camera module on the back of the OnePlus Nord N300 is home to a 48MP primary and a 2MP depth sensor. They are accompanied by an LED flash. Over on the front, the notch encloses a 16MP shooter, which is an upgrade over the 8MP camera on the Oppo A77 5G.

Scientists achieve a record 1.84 Petabit/s of data transfer over single fiber optic cable

0

The demand for broadband communication services has soared in the past 5 years. So, data engineers, and infrastructure are always looking out for new ways to increase the available bandwidth. And recently, scientists have achieved a milestone of 1.84 Petabit/s data transfer via a single optical fiber cable. Let’s learn more about it here.

1.84 Petabit/s data transfer:

Scientists from the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen conducted the research where they were able to transfer 1.84 Petabits of data per second using a standard optical fiber cable in tandem with a photonic chip.

To put that into perspective, the average internet bandwidth used by the entire global population is estimated to be around 1 petabit/s. Since photonic chip technology and the transfer medium (optical fiber) use light waves, both have proven to be excellent data conductors.

The process

The team of Danish scientists, led by Asbjørn Arvad Jørgensen, also gave insights into how the actual process works. First and foremost, the streams of data used in the trial were split into 37 lines, with each one sent down a different optical thread in the cable.

Modelled communication system

Each line were then split into 223 smaller data chunks that matches different color frequencies on the optical spectrum. This allows for creating a “frequency comb” where data gets transmitted in different colors at the same time without any interference.

Scientists called it a “massively parallel space-and-wavelength multiplexed data transmission” system. Data splitting and re-splitting greatly increased the potential data throughput supported by a fiber optic cable.

Now, testing and verifying 1.84 petabits/s bandwidth is a difficult task since no computer is capable of doing so. As a result, the research team used dummy data over individual channels to confirm the full bandwidth capacity. That means each channel was tested individually to ensure that the data received matched the transmitted data.

Availability Plans

Since the research was done with fiber cables, scientists believe a device can be built to upgrade our existing infrastructure. An optical processing device with a Photonic chip should enable fiber cable to accommodate such high speed.  It will be the size of a matchbox that could replace optical data encoders and decoders of comparable size. This could result in an 8,251x increase in data bandwidth in the existing infrastructure.

Solana details its first Web3-powered Android smartphone

0

Solana, a public blockchain company, announced the Solana Saga, a Web3-focused smartphone, back in June. The company has now revealed the detailed key specifications of the device. It’s a flagship Android phone with features integrated with the Solana blockchain. So, let’s get into the specs, features, availability, and price of the Solana Saga.

Solana Saga Overview:

Backed by Web3

To begin, Web3 is a new iteration of the World Wide Web (WWW) based on blockchain technology. Similarly, Solana is a public blockchain solution for managing digital assets like tokens and NFTs. As a result, it is reasonable to expect Solana-backed smartphones to enable simple and secure transactions.

Solona Mobile Stack

The company has also released the Solana Mobile Stack, an Android framework that allows developers to create rich mobile experiences for wallets and apps. The SDK is already available for developers to build applications on Solana.

Built by OSOM

While Solana is in charge of all software refinements, OSOM is responsible for all the hardware requirements for the Saga. OSOM is a startup founded by the people behind Essential devices, which is currently owned by Nothing.

Last year, OSOM teased a smartphone that is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2022. Eventually, they partnered with Solana to introduce a blockchain-focused smartphone.

Specifications

The Solana Saga sports a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display with a ceramic back supported by a stainless steel frame. With the use of such materials, the phone weighs 247 grams, but its 8.4mm thickness is still comfortable on the hands. Likewise, its back panel has a triangle-shaped camera cutout and a fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is also dust and water-resistant, with an IP68 rating.

Solona Saga Design and Display

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, and interestingly, it comes with the latest Android 13. This is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Per the company, the security features of the 8+ Gen 1 will assist them in enabling Solana Mobile Stack’s Seed Vault.

It will segregate the private key, seed phrases, and secrets from the application layer while still allowing interaction with apps running on the device or in a mobile browser. For those who are unfamiliar, the Application Layer simply guarantees that an application may interact properly over multiple networks or the internet.

Moreover, the phone has a 4100 mAh battery and supports wireless charging. On the rear, you’ll find a dual-camera arrangement headlined by a 50MP IMX766 f/1.8 sensor and accompanied by a 12MP IMX373 f/2.2 120-degree ultrawide camera. It sports a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies.

Solana Saga Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 164 x 75.3 x 8.4mm
  • Weight: 247g
  • IP Rating: Yes, IP68
  • Display: 6.67-inch OLED, 120Hz

Apple TV 4K (2022) official with A15 Bionic chip and a lower price tag

Apple recently launched a few new products including the M2 iPad Pro, 10th Gen iPad, and a refreshed Apple TV 4K. The 2022 model of the Apple TV features the A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+, and an option for Ethernet connectivity. Here, we will go through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K (2022) in Nepal.

Apple TV 4K (2022) Overview:

While the Apple TV 4K looks identical to its predecessor, it is significantly smaller and lighter. This is all because of the A15 Bionic chip inside whose efficiency gains remove the need for active cooling. Apple also says the compact form factor for the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K (2022) results in a 25% reduction in carbon footprint.

“The efficiency gains of A15 Bionic eliminate the need for an internal fan”

Apple claims that the 2022 model is up to 50% faster in terms of CPU performance and 30% faster in terms of GPU performance than the 2021 model.

The third-gen Apple TV 4K (2022) adds support for HDR10+, in addition to the existing Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10. The maximum supported output is 2160p at 60fps. In addition, you can enjoy surround sound with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital 7.1, and Dolby Digital 5.1.

The most notable change is the elimination of ethernet connectivity from the base 64GB model. Users who require a wired connection must therefore select the 128GB variant. The 128GB model also supports thread mesh networking protocol for smart home devices.

Siri Remote

There are no significant changes made to this year’s Siri Remote for Apple TV 4K (2022), except for the charging port. It now charges via USB-C instead of the lightning port. The remote uses Bluetooth 5.0 and IR transmission for connectivity. It even includes a microphone and a dedicated button for Siri.

With the tvOS 16, Apple is planning on introducing easier voice control interaction. For example, AirPods owners can simply say “Hey Siri” to control the Apple TV 4K hands-free. Siri will recognize the voice of the user and customize the results accordingly for easier access to the content.

Apple TV 4K (2022) Specifications:

  • Dimensions:
    • Streamer: 93 x 93 x 31 mm
