HP Omen 16 and Omen 16 Max (2025) announced with RTX 50 graphics!

Well, well, well, since the first day of CES 2025, and all the new tech from a cute robot dog to giant OLED TVs excited the geeks in most of us. Myself being a bit of a laptop nerd found something else a little extra intriguing: a new HP gaming laptop that can reverse fan directions to blow out dirt from its vents. HP has finally released its Omen MAX gaming laptop in China today. Besides just that cool party trick, the HP Omen 16 Max also features an improved design, and powerful Intel and AMD chips, alongside NVIDIA’s next-gen graphics. Hence, let’s take a quick peek at the HP Omen 16 Max and its slightly toned-down vanilla sibling (HP Omen 16) alongside their features, detailed specifications, and availability.

HP Omen 16 and Omen 16 Max 2024 Overview

Design and Display

The 2024 edition of the Omen 16 lineup features a re-design look that seems cleaner and more minimal like their ‘Transcend’ laptops from last year. There’s an ‘OMEN’ logo on the lid alongside an ‘O16’ branding on the left side of its chassis. The ‘Max’ sibling has a subtle branding on the left and comes with a few other upgrades in terms of components and cooling.

HP Omen 16 2025 design white and black

And one of those upgrades is the display. While the vanilla Omen 16 goes to a very respectable 240Hz QHD+ IPS screen, the Max variant matches that with an OLED panel instead. That means deeper blacks, lower response times, and vibrant colors on top of all those crispy pixels and that super smooth refresh rate. Of course, lower-end variants with fewer pixels (WUXGA) and slightly slower speeds (144Hz and 165Hz) will also be available but we don’t have the exact details on configurations and pricing yet.

CPU and RTX 50 series GPU

The HP Omen 16 lineup houses both Intel and AMD chipsets that span several generations. On the Intel side, you can get Raptor Lake Refresh 14th gen chips, Intel Meteor Lake Core Ultra chips, and Intel Arrow Lake Core Ultra Series 2 ‘H’ chips while AMD options range from last gen 8000 series to the newer Ryzen AI Strix Point chipsets.

As for the graphics, you can kit up the Omen 16 with NVIDIA’s 40 and upcoming 50 series mobile GPUs. It will feature a variety of GPU options from the RTX 4060 to NVIDIA’s high-end ‘next-generation graphics’ (possibly the RTX 5080).

The Omen 16 Max takes this a step further by providing configurations with stronger CPU  options like the Core Ultra 9 275HX and Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 and exclusively RTX 50 graphics.

To keep it all cool while running, there’s an additional heatpipe over the CPU and GPU, alongside a re-designed chassis, a large vapor chamber, and a special ‘hybrid cryo compound’ on the Max model. And of course, the fans can reverse course to change the direction of airflow. They probably help a lot too. HP’s Omen AI software also automatically offers the best presets for optimal performance in games using machine learning. With all that, the HP Omen 16, and especially the Omen 16 Max will surely be complete beasts at gaming.

Extras

The gaming machine will be available in either ‘Ceramic White’ or ‘Shadow Black’ color options and weighs 2.45 kg with a thickness of less than 3 cm. The Max version is actually even slimmer and lighter but that extra cooling tech should help compensate fine! There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left with an audio jack while the back houses a power barrel, an ethernet jack, an HDMI, and a Type-A port with another USB-A on the right. The keyboard features per-key RGB alongside an optional Light Bar at the front as well.

  • Dimensions and weight: 29.7mm thick, 2.45 kg

Take a sneak peak to the leaked specifications of Moto Edge 60 Pro

Motorola has recently re-entered the Nepali market, and I got the chance to review the Moto G45, which I would say is a good budget phone. That aside, the company now plans to launch the Moto 60 series soon. In this article, we’ll be talking about the rumors surrounding the Motorola Edge 60 Pro.

Moto Edge 60 Pro rumored overview

Similar to its younger sibling!

Popular leaker Evan Blass has shared the first promo video of what he believes to be the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. The phone looks very similar to its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, but with some new color options. Instead of the previous Black, Lavender, and Pearl colors the new model will come in Blue, Gray, and Purplish Pink.

Moto Edge 60 Pro Design

It’s also rumored to have a leather finish, continuing the premium feel to its design. On the right side of the phone, you’ll find the volume rocker and power button and on the left side, you can see a physical button. While the exact functionality of this left button is not clear at the point but sources suggest it might be used for Google’s Assistant or Gemini.

Let’s guess the rest

Moving on to the display, the Edge 60 Pro may feature an AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it will likely get the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 SoC with Android 15 OS running right out of the box. The phone is rumored to have 12GB of RAM, though we may get other storage options during the launch.

For connectivity, the Edge 60 Pro is likely to offer 5G, 4G, LTE, Bluetooth LE, and Wi-Fi support. It could also pack a large 5,100mAh battery supporting 68W fast charging.

Motorola Edge 60 Pro specifications (expected)

  • Design: Leather finish

  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 8350 SoC
  • Operating System: Android 15

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro Review

PS5 vs. PS5 Slim: What’s the Difference?

The PS5 Slim offers a few improvements over the original PS5. It is 30% smaller in volume, has a slightly upgraded cooling system, comes with 1TB of storage (up from 825GB), and features a removable disk drive. Despite these upgrades, the price remains the same, making the Slim model a better choice over the standard PS5.

PS5 Pro vs Slim

However, in terms of gaming performance, there is no difference between the two. Both consoles feature the same CPU and GPU, meaning no FPS improvements or better graphics quality. Games like God of War Ragnarok run identically on both models, with the same level of detail in textures, reflections, and frame rates.

PS5 vs. PS5 Pro: A Performance Upgrade?

The PS5 Pro is slightly more compact than the standard PS5 but taller and heavier than the Slim model. It also lacks a built-in disk drive, meaning users will need to purchase an external drive separately for an additional cost. However, it comes with 2TB of storage, which is almost double the capacity of the other models.

One major factor to consider is the price. While the standard PS5 Digital Edition costs around NPR 65,000–75,000 and the Slim model is priced at NPR 80,000, the PS5 Pro is listed at $700 internationally. When imported to Nepal, it could cost nearly NPR 120,000. The question is: does the performance justify the price?

Boot and Game Load Test

When booting up, there was no noticeable difference in startup time between the PS5 and PS5 Pro. However, game performance is where the Pro begins to shine.

Gaming Performance: PS5 Pro Enhancements

We tested six popular games across different genres:

  • EA Sports FC 25
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • F1 24
  • Call of Duty: Warzone

EA Sports FC 25

In FIFA 25, there was minimal difference in gameplay performance. Both the PS5 and PS5 Pro ran the game at a smooth 60FPS. However, the Pro had noticeably smoother 4K 60FPS cutscenes and slightly sharper textures. While these enhancements were subtle, they contributed to an overall better visual experience.

God of War Ragnarok

The PS5 Pro introduces a new “Enhanced Mode” for God of War Ragnarok, allowing for near-4K graphics at 50-60FPS. This is an improvement over the standard PS5, which only offers 30FPS in Quality Mode. With the PS5 Pro’s PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology, the game looks sharper without compromising performance.

Spider-Man 2

One of the best games on PS5, Spider-Man 2, already runs well on both consoles. However, the Pro version introduces Fidelity Pro and Performance Pro modes. Fidelity Pro mode maintains stunning 4K visuals with ray-traced graphics, while Performance Pro mode offers higher resolution textures and a more refined image quality at 60FPS. The improvements are noticeable, particularly in reflections and texture clarity.

PS5 Pro Hardware and Features

The PS5 Pro offers several key hardware enhancements over its predecessors:

  • 67% more GPU compute units
  • 28% faster memory bandwidth
  • 45% faster graphics rendering
  • Improved ray tracing capabilities
  • PSSR upscaling technology

These upgrades allow games to run at higher resolutions with more stable frame rates, making the PS5 Pro an excellent choice for those looking for the best visual experience.

Should You Buy the PS5 Pro?

Pros:

  • Significant graphical improvements with PSSR upscaling
  • Enhanced ray tracing capabilities
  • Smoother performance in next-gen games
  • 2TB storage provides ample space for games

Cons:

  • Extremely high price, especially in Nepal
  • No built-in disk drive
  • Limited improvements in gameplay FPS

The PS5 Pro is a powerful console that offers clear visual upgrades over the PS5 and PS5 Slim. However, its high price may not justify casual gamers’ relatively small performance gains. If you already own a PS5, upgrading to the Pro may not be necessary. But if you’re looking for the best possible PlayStation experience and don’t mind the cost, the PS5 Pro is the ultimate gaming machine.

Lastly, we have the Turbo Pro version, which is rumored to feature the same 6.78-inch 1.5K display but will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. This could be the most powerful version of the Z10 series, offering flagship-level performance.
