The next iOS update will let iPhone owners use Face ID even with a mask

0

Apple’s 3D Face ID is among the most secure biometrics authentication system among today’s smartphones. That being said, it’s not always easy to use, especially when we have to constantly protect ourselves with face maks in public. Apple is finally addressing the issue. The new iOS 15.4 beta has a new feature that lets users use Face ID with a mask on, but with consequences.

Face ID with Mask

As mentioned earlier, the new authentication feature is only available in iOS 15.4 beta. It was first reported by Brandon Butch (via Twitter) and MacRumors.

How does it work?

According to Apple, “Face ID with Mask” uses unique features around the eye for authentication. Thus, for users to use this feature, they will have to re-do a scan of their faces. Users can easily turn the feature off with a toggle whenever they don’t feel like using it.

There is also a new “Add Glasses” option inside the Face ID with Mask, which will come in handy if you use spectacles. However, sunglasses are not supported yet.

Security Concern

While the new Face ID with Mask feature will make life easier for iPhones — it is not the safest and even Apple admits it. It has left a warning in the settings that says that Face ID is the most accurate when it’s set up for full-face recognition.

Not for everyone

In addition, not everyone will be able to use it. According to the report by Macrumors, the new Face ID with Mask feature is only available for iPhone 12 and 13 lineup. Thus, there is no reason for users with iPhone 11 and older models to get excited about this new biometrics authentication feature.

Apple still has the “Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch” for these users. It was introduced as part of the iOS 14.5 update.

Micromax Mobile Price in Nepal 2022 [Updated]

In this post, we have listed down all the Micromax mobiles that are currently available in Nepal, along with their technical specifications and official price.

Micromax: Brand Overview

Today, the South Asian smartphone market is ruled by Chinese brands. But before the arrival of the likes of Xiaomi and Realme, Indian brands occupied a large chunk of the market. Brands like Micromax and Karbonn were quite huge back then. However, they eventually fizzled out as Chinese brands gained popularity with their value-for-money products.

That being said, Micromax came back from the dead in late 2020. The company capitalized on the growing anti-Chinese sentiments of the Indian people to position itself as a viable alternative. Micromax didn’t revive the previous series that it had success with the likes of Canvas and Yu but chose to start fresh with the In series.

It only took some months for Micromax to re-enter the Nepali market after its latest rejuvenation. Global Business Group is the sole distributor of Micromax smartphones in Nepal.

Micromax IN 2b with dual cameras, Unisoc SoC launched in Nepal

1

After losing the battle in its home ground around 2014, Micromax made a comeback in the Indian market with IN 1b. Its successor—the IN 2b is now officially launched in Nepal. So, let’s get into the specs, features, availability, and official price of Micromax IN 2b in Nepal.

Micromax IN 2b Overview:

Design and Display

To begin with, the IN 2b has a 6.52-inches IPS LCD panel with an 89% screen-to-body ratio and 400 nits of brightness. The display boasts an HD resolution of 720 x 1600 and a 20:9 aspect ratio. In terms of design, the phone’s rear panel looks similar to Xiaomi’s Redmi 9T (9 Power) with its radiating glow.

Micromax IN 2b Display and Design

Yet, Micromax IN 2b has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader instead of a side-mounted unit on the competition. Regardless, its back panel also houses the speaker setup and the dual-camera module. On the front, you get a teardrop notch for the selfie camera and a big bottom bezel that we are used to seeing in a budget device.

Performance and Software

Under the hood, the device packs a Unisoc T610 octa-core SoC, paired with up to 6GB RAM. The processer is fabricated on a 12nm node and the core cluster includes two Cortex-A75 (@1.8GHz) and six Cortex-A55 (@1.8GHz) CPU cores. Handling the graphics is Arm’s Mali G52 MP2. Furthermore, it comes with 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage.

The major upgrade that IN 2b sees is on the software department, as the device boots on stock Android 11. To compare, its predecessor featured the Android 10 Go edition instead. You’re getting a clean, ad-free stock Android experience here.

On top of this, Micromax is still promising 2 years of Android updates on this phone. According to the company’s benchmark results, the IN 2b posts over 176,000 on AnTuTu v8.5.3. This is quite impressive considering how other phones in this price range feature a comparatively under-powerful Helio G25/G35 chipset.

Camera

The camera department doesn’t get any changes though, as it has the same 13MP primary lens followed by a 2MP depth sensor. Likewise, the front houses a 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. The rear camera can capture up to 1080p videos at 30fps and can also click HDR photos.

Rest of the specs

Aside from this, Micromax IN 2b gets a 5000mAh battery that charges via a 10W adapter using the USB Type-C port. Furthermore, there’s a 3.5mm audio jack too. The phone is available in Black, Blue, and Green color options. The company also ships the phone with a earphone inside the box, which is extremely rare on phones these days.

Micromax IN 2b Specifications:

  • Display: 6.52-inch IPS LCD, 400 nits, 20:9 aspect ratio, 89% screen-to-body ratio
  • Resolution: HD+ (720 x 1600)
  • Chipset:  Unisoc T610 4G (12nm)
  • CPU: Octa-core (2×1.8 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55)
  • GPU: Arm Mali G52 MP2
  • Memory: 4/6GB RAM, 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage (expandable up to 256GB)
  • OS: Android 11 (stock)
  • Rear Camera: Dual (13MP primary + 2MP depth)
  • Front Camera: 5MP (teardrop notch)
  • Security: Fingerprint (rear-mounted), Face Unlock

Samsung builds a fingerprint scanner to replace PINs on payment cards

0

Samsung is currently teasing the upcoming S22 series, which it will unveil in the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Amidst all this preparation, Samsung has announced the world’s first “all-in-one” fingerprint security chip for payment cards. With the new S3B512C security IC chip, Samsung is looking to make card transactions both faster and safer.

Samsung S3B512C All-in-one Security IC Chip:

S3B512C is the first “all-in-one” security IC (Integrated Circuit) chip from Samsung, designed in collaboration with Mastercard. This new chip combines fingerprint sensor, Secure Element (SE), and Secure Processor in one common IC.

The fusion of three different components on a single S3B512C security chip removes the need for individual ICs and the manufacturing cost associated with each. Samsung also believes that it will help cards manufacturers in optimizing and designing payment cards.

Potential Applications

Samsung S3B512C “all-in-one” security chip will add an extra layer of security to payment cards. However, it can act as an authentication mechanism for identity document cards. membership cards and even building accesses.

This will open the way for cards manufacturers to replace PINs with fingerprint data. Similarly, these cards will offer more resistance to fraud as the owner’s biometric data is on the card itself.

Samsung all-in-one fingerprint sensor design

Working Mechanism

Here, the fingerprint scanner will read the user’s biometrics data. It is then stored on the Secure Element (SE), which protects it from being tampered with. SE is also responsible for the authentication of encrypted data via a proprietary algorithm.

Then there is the Secure Processor, which analyzes and processes fingerprint data on the sensor. S3B512C also has an anti-spoofing technology to prevent hackers from getting in using illegitimate methods.

Security Certifications

As for security, Samsung’s “all-in-one” S3B512C IC security chip has passed Mastercard’s latest Biometric Evaluation Plan Summary (BEPS) specifications for biometrics payment cards. In addition, it also has EMVCo and Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ certifications.

Anyway, the biggest talk about this phone has to be its S21 Ultra-inspired camera island. So let’s take a look at the official specifications, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal of the Micromax In Note 2.

Micromax In Note 2 Overview:

Design and Display

To begin, the In Note 2 has a similar rear camera island design as Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra. China develops world’s largest military robot—the “Mechanical Yak”

0

China has recently developed a giant electric-powered quadrupled robot, called the “mechanical yak”. It can carry over 352 pounds of weight and can survive complex environments where the situation is challenging for humans.

Mechanical Yak Robot Overview:

A gigantic machine

This machine’s first appearance resembles a yak, which is why it has been dubbed a mechanical yak. It walks with its four mechanical legs and is developed to join military operations where the circumstances are difficult for human soldiers—such as distant border regions, snowfields, deserts, and high-risk war zones.

Furthermore, it is almost half the height of an average adult male, and its length is roughly twice as long as its height. The robot can carry 160 kg and can run at speeds of up to 10 kilometers per hour.

According to China Central Television (CCTV), “the robot independently developed by China is the world’s largest, heaviest, and most off-road capable of its kind.”

Advance technology

Moving on, the mechanical yak robot is armed with a bevy of sensors that allow it to gather information about its surroundings. It analyses the data and reacts to the surroundings that assist in actions such as walking across snowfields, muddy roadways, and climbing through trenches.

Mechanical Yak Robot on sand

Its body is made up of 12 sets of joint modules. This allows it to move forward and backward, turn to walk diagonally, and run while remaining stable. Similarly, experts say that it can be outfitted with weapons and used in armed reconnaissance flights.

A Chinese military officer told Global Times, “The robot is a very good choice for missions in remote border regions where constant monitoring is needed but conditions do not favor a constant human presence, for example, in high altitude plateaus, icy regions, and dense forests”.

Not alone, though

Furthermore, along with the mechanical yak robot, China has developed a dog named Geda. It weighs 32 kgs and can carry 40 kgs of load. Likewise, it is programmed to recognize faces and interpret simple voice commands. China is anticipated to build more of these robots and employ them in situations like a battle.

Samsung Galaxy F23 leaks online with powerful Snapdragon 750G chip

0

Samsung Galaxy F22 was our favorite budget smartphone of 2021. And it looks like we are going to get its successor pretty soon. Galaxy F23 recently popped up on a benchmark platform with a significantly better chipset. In this article, we will be discussing all the major leaks and rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy F23, its specs, features, and availability.

Samsung Galaxy F23 Rumors Roundup:

Samsung Galaxy F23 was recently spotted on the Geekbench platform. It was easy to recognize the device from its model number SM-E236 — last year’s F22 had model number SM-E225.

The most amazing part of the listing has to the be processor. Samsung Galaxy F23 appears to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G, which is a big upgrade from the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset on its predecessor. We have seen this processor in popular midrange phones like OnePlus Nord CE and Galaxy A52 5G.

Samsung Galaxy F23 5G Geekbench scores

Based on an 8nm process, Snapdragon 750G features two Cortex-A77 cores (@2.2GHz) and six Cortex-A55 cores (@1.8GHz). As for graphics performance, it has Adreno 619 GPU.

This also confirms the 5G support on the Samsung Galaxy F23 as the chipset features an integrated X52 modem.

Likewise, the Geekbench listing shows 6GB of RAM. However, we expect other RAM variants to be available during the launch as well. The phone runs on Andriod 12 with Samsung’s One UI 4.0 on top.

Sadly, we don’t have any additional information about the phone. That being said, we can expect an sAMOLED panel, quad cameras, and a big battery. We will learn more as the day passes.

Samsung Galaxy F23 Launch and Availability

The F-series is pretty much an Indian-focused lineup, except for some instances where it is available elsewhere. Thus, we expect Galaxy F23 to launch in India first in the coming months.

Oppo envisions battery-free smart home devices for the future

0

Oppo is a brand that invests heavily in research and development. The company recently released a whitepaper envisioning communication devices without batteries, which it calls Zero-Power Communication. In this article, we will be diving deeper into Oppo’s battery-less tech.

Zero-Power Communication: Everything you need to know

Before we start — What exactly is Zero-Power communication? Well, it’s a concept that future IoT devices will operate without a battery. These devices will generate power in real-time from nearby radiations such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and even smartphone signals. As per Oppo, Zero-Power Communication will not only address the current power need but will also create a roadmap for IoT devices to co-exist in the future.

How does Zero-Power Communication Work?

Zero-Power Communication devices won’t have built-in batteries to power them. They will instead get their power off the radiation around them. Think of it as an evolution of low-power devices. Instead of packaging devices with a chemical battery, we are giving them the ability to create their energy from the radiation.

Here, Zero Power IoT devices will harvest the data/ signals coming towards them and use it to distribute their own data. It could give things like tracking devices like Apple’s AirTag their own endless supply of energy.

Oppo Zero Power Communication Usage

RF Harvesting

There is also a scientific term for this — RF Harvesting. It involves the conversion of ambient frequencies into usable DC voltage. Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Eco Remote 2022 based on this same technology.

However, in its current state, RF harvesting has restrictions related to coverage, which Oppo has claimed to address via its Zero-Power Communication.

Applications

Oppo’s Zero-Power Communication devices will be based on cellular communication, sidelink communication, or both. A sidelink approach would be good for short-range applications such as smart homes and smart wearables, whereas a cellular approach would fit industrial systems.

Oppo Zero Power Communication Features

As they won’t have any battery in them, Zero Power Communication devices will be extremely efficient. Likewise, they will be highly compact with low manufacturing costs.

Oppo’s Proof of Concept

Oppo says that it has successfully demonstrated the working of a Zero-Power Communication device. It is now trying to promote a new Zero-Power Communication standard to 3GPP, FuTURE, and ICCC. Oppo believes that Zero-Power Communication will be pivotal in unleashing the full potential of 6G.
