Thunderbolt 5 announced with thundering data speed of up to 120 Gbps!

Intel has now announced Thunderbolt 5 after its initial preview back in October 2022. This newest interface triples the 40 Gbps bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4, all the way to 120Gbps. The new Thunderbolt also has doubled the PCIe lanes and has the ability to deliver up to 240 W of power.

Intel Thunderbolt 5 will provide speeds of up to 80 Gbps using two of its four PCIe lanes, in a standard configuration. This is still twice the speed of what Thunderbolt 4 offered. When required, Thunderbolt 5 utilises its three PCIe lanes to send data at speeds of up to 40 Gbps. Hence, achieving the ridiculous transfer speed of 120 Gbps. In the meantime, the Thunderbolt 5 uses its fourth lane to receive data at the speed of 40 Gbps.

Intel Thunderbolt 5 can run three 4K displays at a 144 Hz refresh rate at the same time. You can also power multiple 8K displays or run a single display with a 540 Hz refresh rate. Thunderbolt 5 will also allow you to charge your gaming laptops at 240W straight from the USB-C port instead of the dedicated charger.

Is Huawei really returning to the global smartphone market?

Not too long ago, Huawei was one of the leading companies in the smartphone world that regularly pushed boundaries for technological advancement. But after the US trade ban, Huawei took a hit and mostly limited itself to its home country of China. But recent reports suggest the company is planning to make its global comeback. Let’s discuss more about the return of Huawei in the global smartphone market.

Huawei to return to the global smartphone market?

What was?

It’s no secret that Huawei used to be one biggest smartphone makers in the world. So much so that, it had established itself as a chief rival to both Apple and Samsung. Huawei had even overtaken Apple to become the second-largest smartphone company at one time, trailing just behind Samsung.

Furthermore, Huawei was also gaining in on the competition in the chip business and the 5G sector. All this is to say that Huawei was a BIG DEAL!

What happened?

If I were to answer that in two words, politics happened. The US and China don’t like each other — never have and probably never will. Yet another open secret. As two of the largest economies in the world with opposing political standpoints, the US and China are in this constant limbo of trying to one-up each other. Or one-down each other, depending on who you ask.

But the cracks began to show for Huawei based on its very foundation, actually. Because Huawei’s founder was a former officer in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and the fact that China passed the National Intelligence Law which would allow the government to access the data of these Chinese companies when asked for, it sent blaring alarm bells to the US government. Then there’s the whole “stealing IP (Intellectual Property), violating international sanctions” spiel Huawei was accused of.

And since Huawei’s technological grasp was sizeable — especially in the telecommunications sector — with the potential for the Chinese government to exploit it. The US government considered it a security risk and put Huawei on the “Entity List” in May 2019. This effectively cut it from doing business with any US-owned company without getting the “OK” from the US government itself. This resulted in companies such as Google, Qualcomm, TSMC, Intel, and so on cutting ties with Huawei.

Needless to say, this impeded Huawei’s technological progress quite significantly. The company could no longer ship its smartphones with Google apps, which wasn’t much of a problem in China. But for the global market, it was a serious dealbreaker. Additionally, it could neither buy 5G chips from Qualcomm nor partner with the Taiwanese giant TSMC for its chipmaking duties.

What’s Huawei cooking for its return?

As a result, Huawei’s market share began declining — rapidly — in the global smartphone scene. The company even ended up selling its subsidiary brand “Honor” to curb the US ban in a way. But now, reports have emerged stating that Huawei is finally making a proper international return and it’s causing quite a stir. And why wouldn’t it? But the question is just how has Huawei gained the confidence to return to the global market yet again?

Well, that alleged confidence mostly boils down to the success of the new Mate 60 series. Despite its quiet announcement with little to no fanfare, Huawei’s latest flagship phones became a huge hit in China.

China’s recent decision to ban iPhones from state officials and government officials might also have something to do with this success but it doesn’t matter. Huawei will take this win regardless. Estimations say that the Mate 60 series could sell 10 to 12 million units. And even go up to 17 million if the trend continues.

Huawei’s latest flagships have even garnered curiosity from tech enthusiasts worldwide. Mostly because of the custom Kirin 9000S chip these phones are powered by, which reportedly has 5G capabilities and is fabbed under a relatively modern 7nm process. Both of which are among the very things the US government has been trying to keep Huawei from achieving.

Whereas reports suggest that Huawei has managed to source 90% of the components locally for these smartphones, further shying away from its dependence on the West. This means that despite the infamous US ban, Huawei has managed to power through. Quite heroically.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Huawei has finally managed to come up with powerful new smartphones that defy all the odds. This, mixed with the roaring success of the Mate 60 series in China seems to have given Huawei just enough confidence to once again compete with the big guns in the global scenario.

Then again, hardware alone is nowhere near enough to convince consumers outside of China to buy a Huawei phone since — as mentioned before — they famously lack Google apps. Huawei has been making big strides with its own “Harmony OS” in terms of app availability and whatnot, aiming to compete against the likes of Android and iOS, but that’s another uphill battle in itself.

Lava is on the verge of making a comeback in the already crowded Indian market. The brand unveiled the super-hyped Lava Agni 2 Pro just a while ago, with a bang. Now the Indian company has announced the Blaze 2 Pro. In this article, we’ll walk through the specs, features, and expected price of the Lava Blaze 2 Pro.

Lava Blaze 2 Pro Overview:

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Blaze 2 Pro boasts a boxy form factor with flat frames and curved edges. This is an all-plastic build as obvious to the budget category. Likewise, the shiny back panel has a squarish camera module, housing the triple camera setup. Lava ships this guy in three colors: Cool Green, Thunder Black, and Swag Blue.

Samsung is willing to accompany the launch of 5G network in Nepal

We’ve been hearing about 5G for quite some years now. The government-backed telco, Nepal Telecom has been internally testing the 5G network for several months. To foster the process, Samsung is keen to accompany the telcos through its 5G-enabled smartphones. In this article, we’ll discuss the 5G status and Samsung’s vested interest in the launch of 5G in Nepal.

Samsung’s Interest to Launch 5G in Nepal:

The South Korean tech giant is a well-known brand in Nepal when it comes to consumer electronics. Its Galaxy lineup of smartphones is also well-received in the market. Although the 5G launch is still at the bay currently, the brand has been launching 5G phones in Nepal for quite some years. The Galaxy M14 5G is the cheapest one from Samsung for the time being.

Looking at the existing 2G/3G/4G network, the two major telecom operators, NTC and Ncell are running the service through various bands. Both telcos are sharing Band 8 (900 MHz) and Band 1 (2100 MHz) for 2G and 3G networks respectively. For 4G services, Ncell is working through Band 8 (900MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz) while NTC runs through Band 3 (1800MHz) and Band 20 (800MHz). The government-backed telco introduced the Band 20 during its VoLTE expansion.

Samsung phones in Nepal support all the aforementioned bands and frequencies. And so, the company is keen to support the 5G network in Nepal as well. Through a press release, the company has vested its interest in launching 5G in Nepal. No, the brand is not getting directly involved with the telcos. Instead, it is willing to launch more full-fledged 5G devices in the country. In short, the brand is urging the need for 5G connectivity as soon as possible.

5G Status in Nepal

Now, let’s take a sneak at the 5G status in Nepal. At the moment, both Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell are in the works to bring 5G. The state-owned telco began testing on February 5th, 2023, while the private one is still longing for approval from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). NTC’s internal 5G testing is currently live in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Birgunj amongst its employees. The telco is also waiting for an import license to bring equipment to test the network in other provinces.

Using the Non-standalone (NSA) architecture, NTC’s 5G will be supported by smartphones with 2600MHz 5G band. For starters, the NSA allows the telcos to use the existing infrastructure for upgrading to a 5G network. For example, NTC is currently using its 4G cell towers in the aforementioned areas to test the 5G network.

However, it will also enable 5G using Standalone Architecture (SA) after successfully launching the 5G network on NSA. The SA requires a standalone tower as suggested by the name to run 5G connectivity. It can provide higher bandwidth speeds than the NSA to compare.

So, when will 5G be commercially available?

The commercial launch date of the 5G network is still kept under the curtain. After concluding the internal testing, the public in major cities might get a chance to test the high-speed network via Nepal Telecom. It is speculated to happen in the Fiscal Year of 2080/81. While Ncell’s 5G will likely take more time as it still awaits government approval.

Design and Display

The design of the UMIDIGI G1 Tab is pretty basic with dimensions of 244.80 mm x 162.20 mm x 9.30 mm. UMIDIGI has chosen plastic as the material for the G1 Tab, wherein the device weighs 576 grams. The company defines the texture of the device as a “Premium Silk-Feel”, which would suggest the phone has taken a matte texture approach.

The device has two camera cutouts on the back with the company logo placed right in the center horizontally. Additionally, the G1 features a decent amount of bezels and a horizontally placed front camera. The UMIDIGI Tablet features a 10.1-inch 1.6:1 aspect ratio screen. Performance

Alongside the basic SoC is a decent 4 GB RAM coupled with a 64 GB ROM. The UMIDIGI G1 Tab is capable of extended virtual RAM. Similarly, the storage of the tab can also be further expanded to 1 terabyte with the help of a MicroSD card. Furthermore, the device features the latest Andriod 13 for the operating system.

Camera and Speaker

In the camera department, both the front and rear camera features an 8-megapixel lens. Even though the UMIDIGI G1 Tab has two camera cutouts, it only has one camera. The second cutout houses the flash. The cameras have a maximum aperture of f/2.2. Additionally, they are capable of recording 1080P videos at 30 frames per second.

The UMIDIGI G1 Tab features a stereo dual speaker, which is always welcomed.

Powering the UMIDIGI G1 is a 6,000 mAh cell. The tab supports 10W fast charging via USB Type-C. It also supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth v5.0, and features a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

On the other hand, the sensors on this tablet are quite limited. Besides the ambient light sensor and accelerometer, you don’t get to see any of the following: fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, near-field communication, or even a GPS.
