Instagram is getting a bunch of AI features

Instagram is working on a bunch of new AI features, including one that notifies users if a picture is generated using Artificial Intelligence or not. Let’s find out more.

Courtesy of app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, we have insights into some of the upcoming features of the Meta-owned social media platform. Instagram is reportedly testing a new “Created by AI” label for photos to inform users about the source of some images. From the screenshot, we can gather that this categorization can either be done by the original poster of the image or by Meta themselves.

Since a lot of people might be unfamiliar with the latest developments in the world of generative AI art, they might mistake an AI image for a real one. Which could result in a slew of problems. As such, Meta will be labeling such content to prevent confusion, misinformation, and potential propaganda.

In the said label, there’s also a short description of what generative AI is. And a link directing users to “Learn More” about AI in Meta products. But at this point, it’s unclear how far Meta is in testing the feature and the rollout time frame.

Message summary

Another AI feature that’s probably coming to Instagram is called “Message Summary”. As the name suggests, this will summarize your direct messages (DMs) so you quickly have an idea of everything you’ve chatted about with someone.

And we can assume that this can be especially useful for influencers and creators who get thousands of messages every day. By getting a quick summary of DMs, they can understand their audience’s collective voice or get connected with brands quickly. And it’s likely that Meta will be deploying its own large language model (LLM) — Llama 2 — for this.

AI tools in Instagram’s Story editor

Oh, Instagram Stories will be getting an AI makeover too. More specifically, the AI brush tool will allow users to add or replace certain parts of their images in the app itself. From the description, it sounds very similar to something like Adobe Photoshop’s “Generative Fill” via Firefly. And integrating it natively will greatly boost the number of people using such AI features.

There’s also something called “Restyle” which is like “Filters” but on steroids. Restyle will allow users to apply visual styles to their image stories. So you’ll be able to transform your selfies into a paper art, 3D image, comic, and more.

Besides this, other upcoming features on Instagram include the ability to share location in notes, improvements to “Quizzes” during Live, and the ability to “Plan an event”.

The new Tecno Pova 5 Pro takes a glowing inspiration from Nothing Phone (2)

The “Pro” sibling of the Tecno Pova 5 is now official with a more powerful chipset and an LED-lit back similar to the Nothing Phone (2). And the Pro model doubles down on its gaming aesthetics with even more gamer-centric features. So, let’s get right into the design, specs, features, and expected price in Nepal of the Tecno Pova 5 Pro.

Tecno Pova 5 Pro Overview:

Arc Interface

Tecno Pova 5 Pro shares a lot of its visual aesthetic with the vanilla Pova 5, but with the exception of the LED strip on its back. This “Arc Interface” — as Tecno calls it — is similar to the “Glyph Interface” on Nothing phones. However, instead of a single white backlight, it can glow in 9 different colors. And it’s useful for things like notifications, incoming calls, in-game actions, and more

The phone itself is relatively heavy at 220 grams and features a plastic build. There’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, while the Pova 5 Pro is available in “Dark Illusion” and “Silver Fantasy” color options. Tecno says the phone will also have a special “Free Fire Edition” which comes with a custom theme, specialized icons, Garena ringtones, stickers, and gift cards.

Up front, the Tecno Pova 5 Pro features a large 6.78-inch IPS LCD screen of FHD+ (2460 x 1080) resolution. This 120Hz panel has a pixel density of around 396 ppi and can hit 580 nits of peak brightness.

Performance and Memory

Under the hood, Tecno Pova 5 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 6080 5G chipset, which is just a rebranded Dimensity 810 by the way. This 6nm chip has a similar CPU cluster as Helio G99 but with a slightly overclocked Cortex-A76 CPU (2.4 > 2.2 GHz). And also a more powerful Mali-G57 MC2 GPU instead of the G52 MC2.

Moreover, Tecno Pova 5 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM which can be expanded to 16GB via virtual RAM. Alongside that, it comes with either 128 or 256GB of internal storage. In terms of software, it runs on Android 13 with Tecno’s HiOS 13 skin on top.

Gaming features

For a better gaming experience, Tecno has included a few special features in the Pova 5 Pro. One of them is called “Bypass Charge” which powers the phone directly from the charger instead of routing the power through the battery. Just like in gaming laptops, this feature allows the device to deliver stable frame rates without worrying about battery life. On the other hand, it also helps to maintain good battery health by reducing wear and tear on lithium cells.

There’s also a port monitoring feature that warns the user in case of potential damage to the charging port. Other than this, Tecno Pova 5 Pro gets a large 2,820mm² vapor chamber with a 12,979mm² heat dissipation area, which supposedly keeps the chipset up to 2°C cooler.

Camera and Extras

Tecno Pova 5 Pro sports a dual camera setup on its back with a primary 50MP shooter complemented by an AI lens. And the “Arc Interface” — paired with the LED flash — can also double as a secondary flashlight to brighten up your photos. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie shooter capable of recording up to 1080p 30 fps videos. Its “Dual View” video feature lets you record from both front and back cameras at the same time as well.

This gaming phone gets its juice from a massive 5,000 mAh battery which supports 68W fast charging. Tecno claims it can take the phone from 0-50% in just 15 minutes, while a full charge takes 45 minutes. Other than this, the Tecno Pova 5 pro features Hi-Res and DTS-certified stereo speakers alongside a Z-axis linear motor for tactile feedback. Wireless connectivity options include WiFi 5, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC.

3060 Ti is the first Ti graphics card in the RTX 30 series. And it is a toned-down version of the RTX 3070. In fact, the two cards look the same and sport the same two slots, and two fans design.

Performance

At the core, the RTX 3060 Ti is powered by GA104 GPU, like the one in the RTX 3070, but with fewer SM units. It has 38 SM units compared to 3070’s 46. Similarly, it features 4864 CUDA cores, 152 Tensor cores, 38 RT cores, 152 textured units, and 80 ROPs.

Other features

Like the rest of the RTX 30 family, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is not all about performance. Users can enjoy real-time ray tracing thanks to 38 RT cores. Similarly, it also supports features like NVIDIA DLSS, NVIDIA Reflex, and NVIDIA Broadcast.

DLSS is NVIDIA’s upscaling technology, which the company claims supports up to 25 games as of now. Dubbed a “ferocious beast” and “BFGPU,” NVIDIA classifies GeForce RTX 3090 as a GPU designed for creators, researchers, and extreme gamers. It is based on the Ampere architecture and is manufactured using Samsung’s 8nm node.

The GPU has 10,496 CUDA cores and 24GB of GDDR6X memory on a 384-bit bus. To compare, that’s 20% more cores and 20% more memory bus width than an RTX 3080.

Likewise, the card can operate at 1.40 GHz base or 1.70 GHz boost clock speeds. In terms of power, it has a TGP of 350W, whereas NVIDIA recommends a 750W power supply for GeForce 3090.

8K gaming

With such raw power inside, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 can handle up to 8K/60 FPS games. In fact, this is the world’s first graphics card to support 8K resolution gaming.

While none of the games natively support 8K, NVIDIA’s DLSS 2.1 technology allows games to run at this high resolution. DLSS 2.1 offers an “ultra performance mode” for 8K gaming with up to 9X scaling. That is, it can render internally at 2560×1440 pixels and then upscale the result to 7680x 4320 pixels.

Additionally, RTX 3090 also brings HDMI 2.1 compatibility, allowing a single cable to drive 8K at 60Hz in HDR mode.

On the other hand, for 4K gaming, this GPU is about 10-15% faster on average than the GeForce RTX 3080, and up to 50% faster than the TITAN RTX.

Cooling

To keep thermals under control, the RTX 3090 has two built-in fans, one on the and one on the back. Both fans spin counterclockwise, however, the rear fan draws air from the radiator while the front one pushes air out the back of the card.

As per NVIDIA “this dual-axis, the flow-through design keeps the GPU up to 10x quieter and up to 30° cooler than the TITAN RTX.”

AMD Ryzen 5000 Processors Price in Nepal [Updated]

After a long wait, AMD finally unveiled its Zen 3 CPU architecture a while back. The good news is, they are now available in Nepal. Let’s learn more about AMD Ryzen 5000 series CPUs including their specs, availability, and price in Nepal.

Zen 3 CPU Microarchitecture

The new Zen 3 architecture sees the biggest improvement that AMD has been able to pull off in subsequent releases since the introduction of Zen architecture back in 2017. AMD says the new architecture has been built up ground up. However, the company has not transitioned to a smaller node. We will see this with next year the Zen 4, based on 5nm.

For now, the Zen 3 architecture is based on the same 7nm node as its predecessor. Yet, the company has made changes to the underlying core architecture. It is still using the chiplet design although AMD has modified the core complex.

In Zen 2, a Core Chiplet Die (CCD) consisted of two Core Complexes (CCX) with up to 4 cores and 16MB L3 cache each. The CCX had Infinity Fabrics in between for communication.

In Zen 3, AMD has combined the two CCX to form a single unified core complex. Each core complex consists of 8 cores with a 32MB core cache. Each core can now access the 32MB cache. It also improves core-to-core communication.

As cores in a CCD can communicate directly without the need for Infinity Fabrics, the memory latency has also been improved. AMD is also claiming up to 19% improvement in the IPC (Instructions Per Cycle).

Other than that, the I/O diode has remained the same, which means the Zen 3 has the same PCIe compatibility and USB support as the Zen 2.

Ryzen 5000 series Desktop Processors

Here, the Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors are the successor to the Ryzen 3000 series. AMD has dropped the Ryzen 4000 series so as to maintain uniformity in the naming of desktop and mobile processors.

Initial lineup

Initially, AMD only unveiled 4 processors in the lineup. These processors have the same core/thread count as their predecessors with higher clock speed and increased IPC. All that, without any increase in power consumption. It is said to have 59% better rendering performance than the Intel Core i9-10900K.

Ryzen 9 5950X

It is the highest-ranked processor in the new Ryzen 5000 lineup. Unfortunately, the 5950X is currently not available in Nepal, while the rest of them are. It features 16 cores and 32 threads and is based on the same 105W TDP as the 3950X.

It is the fastest processor in the lineup with a boost frequency of up to 4.9GHz. The base frequency is listed at 3.4GHz. The total cache here is 64MB (72MB in total). It is targeted towards content creators.

Ryzen 9 5900X

AMD is calling the Ryzen 9 5900X the “world’s best gaming CPU”. It features 12 cores and 24 cores. The base frequency here is 3.7GHz and it can attain a boosted frequency of up to 4.8GHz. It has 19% better IPC while still running on the 105W TDP. It offers an average gaming performance boost of up to 26%.

While its Intel counterpart (the i9-10900K) has been ahead of the Ryzen processor in the single-thread performance, AMD says it is no longer the case with the 5900X. According to the company, it is the first desktop processor to surpass 600 points in the Cinebench R20 1T test.

The 631 score is significant if you consider that the i9-10900K scores 544 in the same test. Similarly, the 5900X is 28% more power-efficient than the Intel counterpart.

Ryzen 7 5800X

Moving on, the Ryzen 7 5800X features a single-core complex. That is, it has 8 cores and 16 threads. The cache size here is 36MB (L2+L3). It is listed with a base clock speed of 3.8GHz which can reach up to 4.7GHz. The TDP here is 105W.

Ryzen 5 5600X

Ryzen 5 5600X is the cheapest and least powered processor in the Ryzen 5000 desktop processor lineup. It features a single-core complex with six cores and twelve threads. The base clock and boost clock speed of the processor are listed at 3.7GHz and 4.6GHz respectively. It is the only processor in the lineup to have a TDP of 65W. Similarly, it is the only one to come with a stock cooler.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Processors Price in Nepal [Updated]

AMD officially announced its next-gen Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors at the “together we advance_PCs” live stream event held back in August last year. And at CES 2023, the company added three new low-power CPUs to this lineup. Codenamed “Raphael”, AMD has shifted to a new 5nm process, Zen 4 architecture, and new AM5 socket motherboards for these processors. So let’s check out the specs, features, availability, and price of the AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors in Nepal.

AMD Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 Series Processors Overview:

For a long time, there was not much news circulating about the upcoming AMD Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 processors. But eventually, four new AMD processors surfaced online which the company officially launched in September 2022. Ryzen 9 7950X and 7900X, Ryzen 7 7700X, and Ryzen 5 7600X are the first SKUs under the Ryzen 7000 lineup.

Compared to the Zen 3-based processors, the new Zen 4 ones offer 1-1.1GHz higher clock speeds, slightly higher L2 caches, and an increased TDP. In terms of boost clocks, we can see a 700-800MHz increment as well. The top-end Ryzen 9 7950X requires a TDP of 170W compared to the 105W on the last gen Ryzen 9 5950X. With that (and several other factors including improved clock speeds), AMD says the speed gains go over 32% here.

Zen 4 Architecture

Anyway, as mentioned earlier, Ryzen 7000 series marks AMD’s move to its Zen 4 architecture. The new architecture is based on TSMC’s 5nm process node. This is the first time that this process has been used in an x86 desktop processor, though we have seen its use in a lot of smartphone SoCs.

Like its predecessor, Zen 4 brings a chiplet-based design where two Core Complex Dies (CCDs) are connected via an Infinity cache Core Chiplet Dies (CCD). Zen 4 promises 1MB of L2 cache per CPU core—almost twice what Zen 3 offers. It also has integrated RDNA 2 GPU, and DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen 5 support.

In addition, AMD is even claiming up to 15% of single-threaded performance boost, max clock speeds higher than 5GHz, and “AI-accelerated” instructions. However, the company has refrained from providing much detail.

AM5 socket

Ryzen 7000 series is also the first desktop processor family to support the new AM5 socket. The new socket from AMD will be replacing the AM4 that has expanded across five generations of CPUs. So, if you are thinking of upgrading to the new Raphael processors, you will be compelled to get a new motherboard—although you will still be able to use the AM4 coolers if you like.

AMD’s AM5 has Land Grid Array (LGA) array compared to the Pin Grid Array (PGA) on its predecessor. It features 1718 pins, up to 24 lanes of PCIe 5.0, and DDR5 compatibility. Furthermore, it also has Wi-Fi 6 with Dual Band Simultaneous (DBS), Bluetooth LE 5.2, and up to 24 SuperSpeed USB ports with speeds of up to 20Gbps.

Three new chipsets

AMD has even announced three new chipsets for the new Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 desktop processors. The most premium of the bunch is the X670E with the “E” standing for extreme. X607E guarantees full support for PCIe 5.0 and advanced overclocking.

Then there is the X670, which AMD says will allow for enthusiast-level overclocking and PCIe storage and graphics. Finally, the B650 is targeted at the mainstream audience and will be cheaper than X670 and X670E. It also has PCIe 5.0 lanes but only for storage devices. The company has already confirmed multiple flagship AM5 motherboards from partners like Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Series (65W) Overview:

Expanding the Ryzen 7000 series are the new 65W processors—that are geared towards both power and efficiency. With up to 12 cores, 24 threads, and all the Zen 4 goodness, the new Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and Ryzen 5 7600 go head-to-head against Intel’s 13th Gen 65W SKUs announced at CES 2023. They’re still DDR5-exclusive when it comes to memory choice, but AMD has somewhat addressed the value-proposition criticism with these CPUs. In fact, the company even ships a stock cooler with these.

More specifically, the Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7 processors get a “Wraith Prism” cooler compared to a “Wraith Stealth” with the Ryzen 5 unit. All three of them are still unlocked and therefore overclockable via the Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) utility tool. On the performance front, AMD says the Ryzen 9 7900 delivers up to 31% better gaming results compared to last-gen Ryzen 9 5900X. Or up to 48% better performance on creator apps.

Motorola Moto G14 goes official Unisoc T616, 50MP dual camera

Motorola has officially launched the Moto G14 smartphone in India, targeting budget-conscious users. The device boasts a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a microSD card slot. With a dual-camera setup, the Moto G14 captures impressive shots. So, let’s have a look at what Motorola has to offer with the Moto G14, along with its expected price in Nepal.

Motorola Moto G14 Overview :

Design

In terms of design, Motorola has taken a similar approach to the Moto G13 for the Moto G14 as well. The phone is sleek and flat–edged along with a squarish camera module with pretty standard two camera cutouts and a flash on the right. Similar to most Motorola offerings, the company logo sits in the centre of the back. The phone has taken the fingerprint-sensor-on-the-side approach, typical for affordable phones.

The phone is available only in two limited colour options: Sky Blue and Steel Gray. It ships with a 6.5-inch FHD+ screen with a central hole-punch camera. The phone has an IP52 rating, which means the phone should be able to withstand limited dust and light drizzle.

However, unlike affordable phones, Moto G14 features stereo speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos Audio, similar to its predecessor.

Performance and Memory

Motorola Moto G14 has chosen the UNISOC Tiger T616, coupled with 4 GB of RAM, to handle its processing duties. The Tiger T616 is an octa–core SoC with two fast ARM Cortex-A75 cores at up to 2 GHz and six power-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.8 GHz. The SoC also includes an LTE modem, meaning the phone can easily support 4G connectivity.

The Moto G14 packs 128 GB of storage, which is normally sufficient. But if you wish to expand your storage, you can crank it up to a jaw-dropping 1 TB of storage with an microSD card. The storage is also a UFS 2.2; promising higher data transfer speed than eMMC storage.

In order to meet your photographic needs, Moto G14 offers a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary and a 2 MP macro sensor. Over on the front, it features an 8MP sensor for selfies.
