Oppo Reno 6 series launched in India: Might arrive in Nepal as well

0

After its debut in the Chinese market last month, the Oppo Reno 6 series has finally arrived in the Indian market. However, only the Reno 6 and Reno 6 Pro 5G have made it outside of China. That being said, let’s get into the specifications, features, and expected price of the Oppo Reno 6 and 6 Pro 5G in Nepal.

Oppo Reno 6, 6 Pro 5G Overview:

Design and Display

Here, the standard Reno 6 features a 6.43-inch AMOLED panel while the Pro variant debuts with a larger 6.55-inch AMOLED screen instead. Both of them support FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and HDR 10+. Plus, Oppo has secured SGS Eye Care and Netflix HD certification for these phones as well.

Oppo Reno 6 Display

Coming to the design, the Reno 6 series appears to have been inspired by the iPhone 12 with its flat edges. However, the higher-end 6 Pro has a curved layout.

Similarly, both smartphones have a quad-camera arrangement on the back and a punch-hole on the left side of the screen. Oppo says it secured 20 global patents to come up with the shimmering anti-glare design for the Reno6 series.

Performance

Over on the performance, unlike the Reno 6 Pro+ 5G available in China, these smartphones are powered by MediaTek mobile platforms. The standard Reno 6 is driven by Dimensity 900 while the Pro variant is powered by the company’s flagship Dimensity 1200 SoC. In terms of memory, they are available with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of storage. To note, Reno 6 has UFS 2.1 storage while the Pro variant adopts UFS 3.1 protocol.

Rest of the specs

Moving on, Reno 6 and 6 Pro have an identical camera arrangement, with one difference. The latter features an additional 2MP lens for portrait shots. Otherwise, both the devices have a 64MP primary, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro sensor.

Aside from that, the Pro variant has a 4,500mAh battery, while the vanilla Reno 6 gets a smaller 4,300mAh battery. Both of them support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging though. Running the show is Oppo’s ColorOS 11.3 on top of Android 11. Similarly, you’ll find an optical in-display fingerprint scanner on both devices.

Oppo Reno 6, 6 Pro 5G Specifications:

  • Display: 6.43″ (Reno 6) / 6.55″ (Reno 6 Pro), AMOLED, 90Hz
  • Resolution: FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels), 20:9 aspect ratio

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro Review: Earbuds And A Mini Power Bank

Battery life is a major concern for anyone looking to buy a pair of budget wireless earbuds. Most of them only offer 3-4 hours of playback and 2-3 charge cycles with the carrying case. Thus, it was a big deal when HiFuture launched TidyBuds Pro in Nepal last year. Not only does it boast 8 hours of playback time on a single charge, but HiFuture also claims that its case can provide 96 hours of additional battery life with its massive 3000mAh case. After having used it for a couple of weeks, here’s our review of the HiFuture TidyBuds Pro.

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro TWS Specifications:

  • Body: 7.5 x 2.5 x 4.5cm, 87 grams (case)
  • Sound Driver: 6mm graphene drivers
  • Chipset: Realtek 8763B
  • Battery: 70mAh (earbuds), 3000mAh (case)
  • Music Time:
    • Earbuds: Up to 8 hours
    • With case: Up to 96 hours
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0
  • Audio Codec: AAC, SBC
  • Control: Touch
  • Noise Cancellation: No
  • Color options: Black, White
  • Water resistance: IPX5 rating
  • Companion app: No
  • Extra: Case doubles as a power bank
  • Price in Nepal: Rs. 4,999

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro Review:

Design and Build

  • In-ear design, IPX5 certified

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro comes in an in-ear design that doesn’t stick out much from the ear. It’s made out of plastic, and the one I tested had a black finish. It is also available in a white color option.

Additionally, these earbuds are quite bulky, as they fit a 70mAh battery each. It has a tiny stalk that goes into the ear. You will find an eartip at its end, while HiFuture provides additional eartips in the box as well.

As for their comfort, these earbuds fit quite nicely to my ears. For a firm grip, put it in the ear and twist it a little until it conceals the ear canal. Like I mentioned earlier, TidyBuds Pro is comparatively heavier than other budget TWS earbuds I have tested so far.

TidyBuds Pro - Case

Regardless, the default eartips are small and not that great in terms of comfort. Thus, you would want to swap it with something bigger and more comfortable. Anyway, these earbuds are IPX5 rated and thus, can be worn during workouts. You need not worry about sweat damage here.

  • Meanwhile, check out all the latest prices and specs of HiFuture earbuds here

Charging case

Because of its massive 3,000mAh battery, as expected, TidyBuds Pro’s charging case is quite large. You’ll also feel its weight when carrying it around in your pocket. It has an LED battery indicator on the front with a “HiFuture” branding just below it.

At the back, there is a USB Type-C and a Type-A port. The latter is a power-out connection so that you can charge your phone and other compatible gadgets via this case. Like the earbuds, it also has plastic construction. However, fingerprint marks and smudges are more prominent here.

Pairing

  • Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity

These earbuds connect to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop via Bluetooth 5.0. You can even use one earbud at a time. Pairing it with your device is quite standard. Simply take the earbuds out of the case, turn on Bluetooth on your phone, and hit pair once it detects the TidyBuds Pro.

Throughout my usage, these earbuds maintained a strong connection no matter what device I connected them to. Yet, in a couple of instances, one of the earbuds would be subject to nearby interferences. That being said, it never disconnected.

Controls

  • Touch sensor on either earbud
  • Volume, playback control options
  • No companion app for customization

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro feature touch-enabled controls. And thankfully, there is a lot you can do here. Like with other TWS earbuds, there’s the option to play/pause the music with a simple tap. In addition, you can adjust the volume with a double-tap while it lets you summon your phone’s voice assistant with a triple-tap.

TidyBuds Pro - Design 2

To change tracks, you’ll need to long-press on either earbud. Unfortunately, the controls are not that snappy. And most of the time, they won’t even recognize your touch. This made changing tracks so frustrating that I had to reach out to my phone most of the time.

Fair to say, I would have liked it more had the controls been customizable. Alas, this issue seems to be unfixable since TidyBuds Pro doesn’t sync with a companion app so that HiFuture may push an OTA update addressing it.

Audio, Call Quality

  • 6mm graphene drivers
  • Built-in microphones

While these earbuds don’t have active noise cancellation, their passive noise isolation is impressively competent at dampening most of the outside noise. It obviously doesn’t magically make the noise disappear but subdues it largely. You will need to achieve a pretty tight fit to achieve this though.

Coming to the actual sound quality, TidyBuds Pro will be more appealing to the bassheads. The bass is fairly deep and even overpowers the instruments and vocals at times. That was the case during the chorus of “all i know” by Machine Gun Kelly and Trippie Redd. The vocals are not downright awful but lack clarity.

Even in acoustic songs like Machine Gun Kelly’s “bloody valentine – Acoustic”, the audio output sounds muffled while the mids and highs aren’t clear enough to be enjoyed. Moving on, the call quality is not that great either. People on the receiving end often complained about the clarity of my voice.

Battery

  • 70mAh (earbud), 3000mAh (case)
  • 8/96 hours playback (earbuds/case)

Nevertheless, with its 70mAh battery, these earbuds lasted me over 5 hours on a single charge when listening to songs at over 80% volume most of the time. That’s quite impressive if you ask me. Additionally, I didn’t have to charge the case as frequently as I’ve had to with other TWS earbuds in the past either.

TidyBuds Pro - Design 1

A full charge was enough to get me through the week. Here, the case juices up over a Type-C port while the entire process takes around 2 hours to complete. Its 3,000mAh capacity means you can even use it to charge other accessories including smartphones—through the aforementioned Type-A connection.

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro Review: Conclusion

To conclude, HiFuture TidyBuds Pro offers unmatchable battery life in the budget segment. There is practically no other TWS in the market whose carrying case can double as a mini-power bank. If you travel a lot, these could be the earbuds right for you.

On the other hand, its sound quality is just passable for the price. And if you are not that into bass, you’re better off looking at some alternatives like the OPPO Enco W11—while upping your budget by a little gets you the Realme Buds Air 2 Neo which is our current favorite pick for the best budget TWS earbuds.

Songs referenced in the HiFuture TidyBuds Pro review:

HiFuture TidyBuds Pro Review: Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Tight and comfortable fit
  • Good passive noise isolation
  • Bass-heavy sound signature
  • Tremendous battery endurance

Cons:

  • Default eartips aren’t that good
  • Touch control is not snappy
  • Highs and mids are overshadowed
  • Call quality is pretty dismal

Apple announces MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 series

0

Months after the iPhone 12 series announcement, Apple has introduced a new MagSafe accessory for these phones. While unofficial battery packs from third-party vendors are readily available, the company’s move to launch an official battery pack is fascinating. So, let get into the features, specifications of the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack along with its expected price in Nepal.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Overview:

Snap-Snap

To begin with, the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack has a capacity of 1460mAh and can charge any model of iPhone 12 with up to 5 Watts of power. That’s comparable to the old square iPhone wall chargers and it’s less than 15 Watts you get from a regular MagSafe charger.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Design

You can snap the Battery Pack on the back of an iPhone, thanks to its embedded magnets. Similarly, it works with all four phones of the iPhone 12 family – the iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. It is available in a single white color option and has a silicone coating on the front.

Charging

The pack itself charges via a lighting cable and can also recharge iPhone at the same time. According to Apple, charging the pack using a 20W or higher USB-C power adapter increases the 5W charging speed to 15W. Maybe if it was able to supply 15W of power even without connecting the cord, things could’ve been a lot more impressive.

Moreover, the MagSafe Battery Pack will only work on iPhones running iOS 14.7 or later. Similarly, the battery percentage of the case will appear in the battery widget and on the lock screen of the iPhone.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Price in Nepal

Apple has launched the MagSafe Battery Pack for USD 99 and it is available in the sole white color option. You can pre-order it right now while the actual shipping will begin next week. We expect the price of the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack in Nepal to be NPR 15,000 if and when it launches here.

In its most basic form, it is an entirely digital method of applying for and receiving a loan. Laxmi Bank customers can simply use the bank’s mobile application, Mobile Money (Android | iOS), to apply for a short-term pre-approved loan.

Smart FoneLoan uses an algorithm known as “Decision Analytics” to determine a customer’s eligibility for the loan and its eventual approval. And after the customer agrees to the terms and conditions, the approved loan amount will be disbursed almost instantly.

Who are eligible?

For the time being, the service is available to customers with payroll/savings account in Laxmi Bank. Besides this, they also need to meet other criteria defined by the analytics algorithm. This implies that not every Laxmi Bank customer can access this service.

The pre-programmed algorithm thoroughly examines the user’s past transactions, account history, and other factors to determine their eligibility.

Here, the Decision Analytics algorithm mainly focuses on four factors:

  • Average monthly balance of the account
  • Deposits and withdrawals in the account
  • Status of existing loans in bank
  • History of previous loans in bank

With this, the system generates a cumulative score of every individual account holder. Then, if a customer’s score meets the bank’s minimum threshold limit, they will be able to apply for Smart FoneLoan. This will be indicated by the “Register for Short-term Loan” prompt in their dashboard of the Laxmi Bank Mobile Money app.

Even if you are ineligible for Smart FoneLoan for now, don’t worry. Provided that your account’s status grows positively in the favor of Decision Analytics’ parameters in the future, the algorithm will automatically enroll you on the eligibility list.

Meanwhile, if you’re wondering how to check the score of your account, let me be clear: you can’t. Like I mentioned earlier, if you see a “Register for Short-term Loan” widget on the Laxmi Bank app, you’re good. Otherwise, you’re not.

Limit and time period of the loan

Now because it’s a collateral-free loan, you can only apply for loans ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 200,000. However, not every account holder can apply for a loan as high as two lakhs.

The maximum applicable loan amount for an account is also determined by the Decision Analytics algorithm. For example, if it determines the limit of Rs. 75,000 for a certain account based on the aforementioned parameters, then the individual can apply for a loan amounting to Rs. 75,000 or less. Besides this, the maximum tenure to repay the loan is 30 days.

How to apply?

So, if you’re eligible, you can apply for Laxmi Bank Smart FoneLoan by following these simple steps:

  • First, click on the “Register for Short-term Loan” option displayed on the landing window of the Mobile Money app, after you log in.
  • Then, proceed to register your email and click the verification link forwarded to your email account. Laxmi Bank will use this verified email for notifications, authorizations, and other purposes.
  • Now, you will see the “Apply for Virtual Credit Card” window in the app. It is displayed so since this short-term loan acquisition facility’s working principle is the same as a digital credit card.
  • Then, input the desired loan amount and payback date in the two input fields given.
  • After you enter the amount and date, click on the “Check Eligibility” option to find out the maximum loan amount your account is eligible for.
  • In case you’re happy with the amount applied and the tenure date set, proceed to tick the terms and conditions checkbox after reading it. Then, click on “Proceed”.
  • Or, if you’d like to make some changes to your loan’s variables after learning the max applicable amount, head back to the previous window and make the desired change.
  • After this, you will receive a card verification value (CVV) number on your registered phone. Enter the received CVV in the given field and the applied amount will be automatically deposited in your account—after deducting all the pre-defined fees, that is.

Charges and payback process

Here, even if the process seems a bit sophisticated, Laxmi Bank has kept the charges to a minimum. An applicant will be charged a flat Rs. 250 as the loan administration or processing fee regardless of the loan amount. Similarly, the monthly interest rate is only 1.25% of the loan amount (or 15% p.a.). And if you set a payback date of less than a month, you’ll only pay interest for the number of days.

Smart FoneLoan - Maturity Date

Moreover, the payback process is quite simple. If the account holder maintains the net payable amount on the day of the loan’s maturity, the system will deduct it automatically.

To note, Laxmi Bank Smart FoneLoan does not have a pre-payment option. That means even if one collects the payable amount before the loan’s maturity date, they’re still unable to clear the loan. You need to wait till your maturity date expires and pay the daily accrued interest until then accordingly.

However, if you fail to maintain the required balance, you will be fined Rs. 300 as a late fee every 30 days, plus daily interest. Also, every subsequent deposit made into the account will first be debited to pay off the loan.

Similarly, if your account is in overdue status for a longer duration, Laxmi Bank’s loan recovery process following Nepal Rastra Bank’s regulations will be initiated. But considering Smart FoneLoan’s minimal fee structure, no honorable person should face this problem.

Laxmi Bank Smart FoneLoan: Conclusion

To conclude, I would say that the FoneLoan service introduced by multiple Nepali banks is a much-needed move towards boosting the country’s digital economy. Since it does not require any in-person human intervention either, that’s another win in this time of the pandemic. We expect the concerned authorities to further push the boundaries of cashless culture in Nepal in the future by introducing similar technologies.
