Sony’s Airpeak S1 professional drone goes official with a sky-high price tag

0

After the official teaser in CES 2021, Sony has finally unveiled its drone – the Airpeak S1. It is a direct competitor to DJI drones, which has led the drone market for quite some time. So, let’s walk through the specs, features, availability, and expected price of the Sony Airpeak S1 in Nepal.

Sony Airpeak S1 Overview:

Design and Build

The Airpeak S1 is a larger aircraft that resembles the DJI Inspire 2 in size and shape. However, Sony has debuted this beast with greater power for beefier payloads, faster acceleration, and full remote camera control.

Sony Airpeak S1 Design

The drone is designed to be compatible with Sony mirrorless cameras such as the a7S III, a7R, FX3, and Alpha 1. These cameras will be attached to the Gremsy T3 gimbal, which has been specially built to complement the aircraft. But what’s surprising is that you’re gonna have to buy it separately.

Top-notch flight

According to Sony, the Airpeak S1 accelerates from 0 to 50 mph in 3.5 seconds. This is 1.5 seconds quicker than the Inspire 2, DJI’s fastest drone. The quadcopter can tilt up to 55º and remain stable in winds of up to 44.7 miles per hour. Similarly, without a payload, it can fly at a speed of 56mph.

Sony Airpeak S1 on flight

The biggest letdown, though, is the short flight duration. It has mere 12 minutes of flight time with a full payload, and 22 minutes when not stuffed. The drone has a number of sensors and an integrated camera that detects and avoids possible obstructions, while the Airpeak Flight app relays the view to your mobile.

Strangely, the app is only available on the iOS platform for now, whereas Sony’s own smartphones run on Android. Meanwhile, the Airpeak Base web app enables the operator to control equipment, make flight plans, and monitor flight logs.

Dual operation mode

Among the main pros of this drone is the dual operator support. It allows one person to operate the drone while the other manages the camera and gimbal motions independently. The camera attached to the Airpeak S1 will have to utilize its own battery and can communicate through USB-C and HDMI ports.

Sony Airpeak S1 Specifications:

  • Aircraft Weight: Approx. 2.73 kg
  • Dimensions: 20.75(H) x 23.38(W) x 20.25(D) inches (without propellers)
  • Gimbal: Gremsy Gimbal GBL-T3
  • Image Sensor: 1/4 inch 8.17Mpx CMOS Sensor
  • Gimbal Axis: 2 Axises Gimbal (Tilt, Roll)
  • Propeller Size: 17 inch
  • Flight Time (Max): 12 min (with payload), 22 min (without payload)
  • Max Wind Resistance: 20m/s (44.7 mph) without payload
  • Max Speed: 25m/s

Sony Airpeak S1 Price in Nepal and Availability

Sony Airpeak S1 will be available from Fall 2021 for USD 9,000, which includes two pairs of propellers, a controller, two batteries, and a charger. With the gimbal and camera included, it ends up costing USD 15,000. We expect the price of the Sony Airpeak S1 in Nepal to be around NPR 1.2 million if and when it launches here.

Battlefield 2042 announced with up to 128 players for PC, new-gen consoles

0

Battlefield is back. And this time, it is set in a world 21 years into the future from now. EA Games released a 5-minutes-long trailer video for the upcoming DICE-developed shooter game. The video gives a glimpse of what to expect in Battlefield 2042 in terms of weapons, maps, and game experience, whereas developers will unveil the actual gameplay at the upcoming event.

Battlefield 2042 Overview

As mentioned earlier, the game is set in the future, where the world is on the brink of another war. It sets in the premise of a world that has gone through a decade of chaos, including extreme calamities, the Second Great Depression, and political tension between world powers. Players will tune in to a world caught between the tension between the US and Russia, where Non-Patriated or No-Pat are fighting for their survival.

Game Experience

If you are looking for a single-player campaign mode, there is none. Battlefield 2042 is all about multiplayer experience. There are three gaming experiences, starting with the “All-Out Warfare”, which now supports up to 128 players.

That’s a massive jump from the current player cap of 64 in Battlefield V. However, this will only be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, Series S. Last-gen users will still be limited to 64 players. The maps will be adapted accordingly for these platforms.

There are two types of game modes under All-Out Warfare. In the Conquest mode, two teams will be fighting in a chaotic space. On the other hand, the situation in the Breakthrough will be more controlled, as one team has to defend while the other is attacking.

Battflefield 2042 unveiled game features price launch open beta

In addition to the All-Out Warfare, there are two more gaming experiences. The Hazard Zone is an all-new concept in the Battlefield franchise, which will focus on squad play. People at DICE have been stressing, “It is not a battle royale mode.”

EA says the third experience is “a love letter to Battlefield fans.” It is yet to be unveiled. There is no name or any hint about this mode.

Maps

There are several maps to choose from – Kaleidoscope (South Korea), Manifest (Singapore), Renewal (Egypt), Hourglass (Qatar), Breakaway (Antarctica), Discarded (India), Orbital (French Guiana). These maps vary in size, and each has a different theme. Breakaway is the largest of them all, expanding up to 6km.

As mentioned earlier, the last-gen console will have smaller maps because of the lower player cap. Adding to the chaos are will tornadoes, sandstorms, and other dynamic events. These events will be specific to a map.

Specialists, Vehicles, and Weapons

With Battlefield 2042, DICE is replacing the classes with specialists. There will be ten specialists at launch, but only four of them are official until now. It includes – Casper (Reckon class), Webster Mackay (Assault Type), Maria Flack (Support class), and Boris (Engineer).

Players will also be able to summon planes, tanks, and helicopters, etc. You can even call the Ranger – the Boston Dynamics-style war robot. Other features include wingsuit, recon drone, and grappling hooks.

The Plus System allows players to customize their guns on the fly. You can switch ammo, scope, barrels, and other attachments. In addition, the extent of customization will depend on the player’s level.

Battle Pass

Battlefield 2042 will also bring a Battle Pass to the franchise. Developers have stated that the premium tier will only have cosmetic times and that all gameplay-related stuff will be available in the free tier.

Quantum microscope enables examining unseeable structures in living cells

0

A team of researchers from Germany and Australia has built a microscope that can image minuscule biological structures. This is probably the first time where quantum technology has made improvements on the existing microscope, which, in the future, can bring revolutionary changes in medical imaging and navigations.

Quantum microscope:

Here, researchers from the University of Queensland employed laser light that was millions of times brighter than the Sun.

Quantum x Medical

Quantum technologies rely on the concepts of quantum physics, which describes how microscopic structures like atoms and subatomic particles act. This study on quantum microscopy was partially supported by the United States Air Force and was published in Nature.

Microscope

Existing microscopes shine one or two bright lights on their targets, and stronger light sources allow researchers to observe the cells in greater detail. Yet, the approach has a limitation as intense light can enter the target and destroy the living cell.

The team has finally found a way to overcome this. They used a microscope with two laser light sources. However, one of the beams goes through a specially designed crystal that “squeezes” the light. It does so by introducing quantum correlations into photons, which are light particles in a laser beam.

Next, the photons were coupled into correlated pairs and any with different energies were discarded straight away. It reduces the intensity of the beam while decreasing noise, allowing for more accurate imaging. In this way, bright enough light won’t destroy a living cell. With such a method, the quantum microscope operates with 35% more clarity than current state-of-the-art equipment.

Lead researcher Prof. Warwick Bowen says “In order to achieve this kind of measurement without quantum correlations, you’d have to turn the intensity up”. He added, “But if you turned up the intensity enough to match these results, you’d destroy the sample, so we’re able to examine things that previously would have been impossible to see.”

Quantum technology to date

Many countries have made significant investments in quantum technologies. Not only governments, but technology firms like Google and Samsung are also researching it. Samsung even launches phones under the Quantum series which has a specialized processor known as a quantum random number generator (QRNG). Google, on the other hand, built a quantum computer capable of exceeding the world’s best supercomputers.

RockYou2021 breach exposes 8.4 billion passwords—the largest of its kind

0

Almost every day, we hear about a password breach or website hacking. A data breach dubbed “RocKYou2021” has now disclosed the world’s largest password collection. The entire volume of hacked passwords is 8.4 billion, which is staggering.

RockYou2021: Largest password data breach

A user on a popular hacker forum posted over 100GB of a text file containing 82 billion passwords. It might also include appended data from prior hacks. According to the post’s author, all of the passwords in the leak are between 6 and 20 characters long, with all non-ASCII characters and white spaces eliminated.

The contravene

According to Cybernews, the total number of unique passwords leaked was 8,459,060,239 (roughly 8.4 billion). Nevertheless, the post creator claimed that the TXT file had 82 billion credentials. The password compilation was dubbed “RockYou2021” by the forum poster, most likely in allusion to the RockYou data leak in 2009. In a previous attack, the hacker acquired access to over 32 million unencrypted user passwords.

RockYou2021 breached passwords
Image: Cybernews

When compared to the 2009 hack, this leak contains 262 times the number of passwords. Given that only roughly 4.7 billion people use the Internet, RockYou2021 might entail the passwords of nearly twice the world’s population. As a result, we suggest checking your account’s credentials and changing them if they had been stolen.

How to check compromised passwords?

Users can check the affected accounts by using sites such as haveibeenpwned or CyberNews personal data leak checker.

RockYou2021: Final Words

Last but not least, we recommend using a password manager that can assist you to create strong, complex passwords and ones that aren’t common or easy to remember. Furthermore, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on all of your accounts.

Scientists are developing a voice-based app that can detect depression

0

Researchers at the University of Maryland are attempting to create an app that can detect a person’s depression when his or her voice coordination changes. It will not only benefit the patients but will also simplify the job of a therapist to check their condition.

App to detect depression with voice:

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are over 264 million people worldwide who suffer from Major Depression Disorder (MDD). These figures are constantly growing. MDD is also the most prevalent cause of suicide in adolescents and young adults. To tackle this, scientists from Maryland University are trying to develop an app with deep learning that measures depression with voice.

What is deep learning?

Before we head to the project, let’s briefly understand what deep learning is.

Deep learning is a sort of machine learning that mimics how humans acquire specific types of information. With this, processing enormous volumes of complicated data becomes considerably easier. It in turn allows professionals to depend on algorithms to derive correct conclusions based on defined criteria.

The Project

According to scientists, a person’s speech coordination gets altered when he/she feels depressed. Similarly, they cannot even think as quickly as others, and their speech tempo is delayed with frequent pauses. This is where a deep learning-enabled app may assist in detecting such traits.

Mental Health

Carol Espy-Wilson, the project’s leader, shared insights about how a person’s mental health state is reflected in the coordination of speech gestures. The in-development software will employ deep learning and can be simply recommended to patients by therapists.

Wilson says “Ideally, therapists will give the app to patients who suffer from MDD when they are in remission or only have mild depression”. He added, “That is, they are in a state where they are likely to use it regularly, so their mental health status can be tracked, and the appropriate people will be alerted if the app detects that the severity of the depression is increasing”.

How does it work?

The user must first log in to the app on their smartphone. Then, it will ask the user some questions about how they have been feeling physically and mentally over the last week. Users must respond to the questions orally, and their audio will be recorded. They may also film their video if they choose to do so.

The therapist will then assess the patient’s articulatory coordination, language, and facial gestures to evaluate the degree of their depression. Professor Wilson further stated that they are trying not only to detect depression in people but also the degree of it.

Final words

Using smartphones in a positive way for mental health might help nudge people to seek early treatment. The most significant concern, though, is how precisely the system can work. While we can’t speak to the app’s accuracy at the present, we can say that this technology could definitely have a significant impact on the health sector in the future, if implemented effectively.

Sneak peek: Realme’s upcoming laptop will rival Xiaomi’s Mi NoteBook lineup

0

What started as Oppo’s answer to Redmi has now become one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in the world. Realme is going even further by tapping into the accessories and AIoT market. Last year, the company found success with audio accessories, wearable, and even smart home electronics. And now, Realme is teasing its first laptop.

Realme Laptop Overview:

Madhav Seth (CEO: Realme India, Realme Europe) took to this Twitter handle to tease the company’s first laptop. His tweet contains a sneak peek of the notebook. There is a cryptic message accompanying the photo, which reads “Hello World!” when decoded.

Realme Laptop Rumors Launch Leaks Specifications Features Availability

In case you don’t know, Hello World is the first program one learns when introduced to a new programming language. Here, it simply signifies Realme’s entry to a new product category. The laptop will be the latest addition to Realme’s growing AIoT portfolio.

According to an exclusive leak by Android Authority, the laptop will be called “Realme Book”. Plus, it looks to be heavily inspired by Apple’s MacBook lineup.

The leaked images reveal an aluminum body, thin bezels, and a Realme branding on the bottom bezel. Realme Book is also speculated to feature a tall 3:2 aspect ratio.

Official Laptop Survey

Realme’s intentions were clear when it conducted a laptop survey last month. The survey asked users about their laptop preferences. The post on the official forum mentioned that the survey came to be because of users’ requests.

Realme Laptop Preferences Survey Cover

Through the survey, Realme was trying to do a market analysis. The questionnaire asked users about the most and the least important features in a laptop and the workload for which the participants use their laptops. It also asked people if they plan to upgrade their laptops in the coming months, along with the price they are comfortable with.

Deductions from the questionnaire

Based on the questions asked in the survey, it is safe to say that the Realme laptop will be a notebook priced between INR 30,000 and INR 50,000. It could easily be an entry-level Ultrabook that will compete against Mi Notebook 14 lineup, which is available in the same price range. After all, Realme going against Redmi should not be a surprise to anyone.

Research and Development

Brands like Redmi, Poco, and Realme have been offering their products at competitive prices because of their shared resources for R&D with their sister companies. However, none of the brands under the BBK Electronics umbrella (Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus) have launched laptops yet.

Thus, Realme Book will be a product designed from the ground up. Alternatively, it could also be partnering with an ODM (Original Design Manufacturers) to keep the cost down.

Realme Laptop Expected Launch

Back in January, Indian leaker Mukul Sharma tweeted that Realme could launch a laptop in June 2021. And with the Android Authority leak, it looks like the company is ready to unveil the laptop during the global launch of Realme GT 5G (June 15).

Facebook Smartwatch to debut next year with two cameras on board

During the launch of the Oculus Quest 2 last year, Facebook also confirmed that it is working on smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban. They will launch later this year but it’s not the only smart device Facebook is working on currently. The company is working on a smartwatch that it plans to launch next year. Let’s learn more about the upcoming smartwatch from Facebook.

Facebook Smartwatch: Everything we know so far

Over the years, the market for wearables like smartwatches has grown significantly. Almost every major smartphone brand has one smartwatch lineup. Even Google has entered the race with its acquisition of Fitbit.

It was The Information that first reported the news of Facebook secretly working on a smartwatch. Facebook may have started as a social media platform, but the company has stepped into the other market segment with Oculus VR headsets and Portal TV. Not to forget the disaster of an attempt that the Facebook Phone was.

Features

We do not have any information about what Facebook will be calling its smartwatch. Thus, we will refer to it as the Facebook smartwatch for now.

According to the latest information, Facebook is developing its smartwatch as a viable alternative to smartphones. It wants people to use the smartwatch-like they use their smartphones. The watch will feature two cameras as well.

Users will be able to detach the display to take pictures and videos. The 1080p AF camera on the back will for photos and videos, whereas the front-facing camera will facilitate video-calling. It will also have a heart rate sensor. Facebook is also working with other companies to develop accessories for its watch. For instance, there will be an accessory to attach the watch to backpacks and such.

Facebook Smartwatch will have built-in LTE connectivity as well. Thus, it will work even without a smartphone pair. That is expected, given how the company sees recent privacy control features in iOS and Android as a threat to itself.

Facebook Mark Zuckerberg

As per the initial reports, the company is developing exclusive software for its smart devices. However, the first-gen Facebook smartwatch will ship with an open-source version of Android.

As you would expect, the watch will have apps like Facebook, MessengerWhatsApp, and Instagram integrated into it. It will allow users to share photos and videos from the smartwatch. Facebook will also be integrating health and fitness features from companies like Peloton Interactive.

Facebook is already looking into the future of the product. It already has the second and third generation of the watch in mind. In the future, the company will look to use the watch as an input mechanism for its AR glasses.

User privacy

While Facebook is looking to be a big player in the wearable market, it is to be seen how the public will react to it. Through its smartwatch, Facebook will have access to more user data, including information regarding their health and fitness. Considering how it has handled user data over the years, it doesn’t make sense for users to provide additional information.

Mark Zuckerberg once said in an interview that he doesn’t want a society where there is ” a camera in everyone’s living room”. Yet, his company sells Facebook TV Portal and is reportedly working on a smartwatch with two cameras.

It is not just users. Facebook has received criticism from different regulatory bodies as well. The company was accused of demonstrating anti-competitive behavior because it acquired platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram, which at some point were Facebook’s biggest rivals.

It will be interesting to see how it will sit with Apple. Currently, Apple holds the largest share of global smartwatch shipments. Recently, the two companies have been fighting over the Apple Transparency Tracking feature. Apple says it offers users more control over their privacy, while Facebook sees it as an anti-competitive behavior against the digital marketing platform.

Facebook vs Oculus Branding

Given the circumstances, the idea of slapping Facebook’s name onto the smartwatch doesn’t look logical, especially when past products like the Facebook phone and Facebook Portal TV did not enjoy much success. The safe bet is here to launch future products under the Oculus branding. Even though it is owned by Facebook, Oculus has been doing well in the smart wearable market.

Facebook Smartwatch Expected Launch Date

According to The Verge and The Information, the alleged Facebook Smartwatch will launch next year. Rumors suggest that the price will be closer to $400. We are yet to hear anything about the subject from Facebook though.
