Redmi 8A Dual with dual cameras, 5000mAh battery launched in Nepal

Xiaomi is the reigning king in the budget and mid-range smartphone market segment in Nepal. They have great offerings for almost every budget price range. Powerful devices and aggressive pricing have been their mantra so far. They keep launching new devices and with every launch, the company keeps getting better. And now, Xiaomi Nepal has launched the Redmi 8A Dual in Nepal. It is an upgrade over the Redmi 8A with some modifications for added features.

Xiaomi Redmi 8A Dual Overview

For its price, Redmi 8A was and still is a capable device. However, there was stuff, which if incorporated, would have added to the appeal of the device, say – an extra camera on the back. This must be the agenda behind the Redmi 8A Dual; Redmi 8A with extra features for those who want them.

What’s new then?

It isn’t difficult to guess that Dual in Redmi 8A Dual is for the dual-camera setup. Xiaomi has added a depth sensor on the back of the device. However, it isn’t the only change in the camera- Redmi 8A Dual comes with a different primary camera than that of Redmi 8A. While 8A came with a 12MP camera with f/1.8 aperture, Redmi 8A Dual has a 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture.

Redmi 8A Dual Aura XGrip Design

The other change is in the design. Look-wise, the 8A Dual looks similar to 8A except for the added camera and the flash’s placement, but 8A comes with an Aura XGrip Design. The company claims that the change in the texture offers better grip and keeps out fingerprint marks. Xiaomi has also thrown in P2i coating for better protection from splashes.

What about the rest?

The phone comes with a 6.22-inch IPS LCD display with a notch to house the 8MP front camera. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, while the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439 chipset. You can choose between 2 and 3GB of RAM. Both of the variants come with 32 or 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card.

It comes with the same 5,000mAH battery and although the device supports 18W charging, Xiaomi has only included a 10W charger in the box. Thanks to reverse charging technology, this device can also be used as a power bank. On the software front, it ships with Android Pie with MIUI 10 on top. There is no fingerprint sensor but you can unlock your phone using an AI-powered Face Unlock feature.

MediaTek Helio P95 announced with APU 2.0 and a few camera upgrades over P90

0

As of late, Mediatek is focusing on its Dimensity and Helio G series of smartphone chipset and we understand that because 5G and gaming smartphones are on the rise these days. However, we shouldn’t forget that not everyone needs those two. That must be the reason for MediaTek finally updating its Helio P series of smartphone chipset with the announcement of the latest Helio P95 chipset. It looks to be a chipset aimed at the midrange segment of the smartphone market. MediaTek has thrown in a few tweaks considering the recent trends to otherwise an old chipset to make the Helio P95. So, let’s have a look at what the new chipset has to offer.

Also, Check out MediaTek’s Helio G80

MediaTek Helio P95 Overview

The Helio P95 comes with a minor update to Helio P90 which was announced in 2018. Keeping the general specifications somewhat similar, MediaTek has improved AI support and camera capabilities in the new Helio P95.

Advanced AI

Based on the 12nm FinFET process, the Helio P95 comes with an advanced AI processing unit – APU 2.0. It is multi-threaded and more efficient than the unit in the previous generation. The company claims it will contribute to a 10% gain in the performance with respect to Helio P90 which is well documented by the ETHZ benchmark score.

Camera Tweaks

The most noticeable changes are in the camera. The new Helio P95 now comes with support for up to 64MP camera for a single camera setup. For dual camera setup, it can support up to 24MP and 16MP combination. It also comes with some AI-powered camera capabilities. Five-person human pose tracking is possible with the Helio P95. Other features include full-body avatar AR, 3D pose tracking, multiple object and scene identification, AR/MR acceleration, AI depth engine, and AI-NR low-light photography.

MediaTek HyperEngine

Mediatek HyperEngine Game Technology

The Helio P95 is the first in the P lineup to come with MediaTek HyperEngine, a feature that debuted with the Helio G series. It claims to improve user’s gaming experience through faster networking, rapid response engines, efficient resource management, and better picture quality.

And more…

The rest of the specs of the Helio P95 is strikingly similar to that of Helio P90. Both of the chipsets offer a similar octa-core setup consisting of 2X Cortex-A75 cores and 6X Cortex-A55 cores. The former cores are clocked at 2.2GHx while the latter cores are clocked at 2.0GHz. The GPU in the Helio P95 is the same PowerVR GM 9446 used in the P90. However, the company claims a 10% GPU performance boost in the P95. While the world has moved to the latest LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3 storage technology, the Helio P95 has support only for LPDDR4x and UFS 2.1.

The first Helio P95 powered phone

MediaTek hasn’t given the date for the first smartphone powered by Helio P95. However, we’re sure that won’t be very long.

So what do you think of the new chipset? Will you be happy with Helio P95 powering the mid-range devices in 2020? Lets us know your opinion with comments.

Vivo Apex 2020 announced: Is this the mobile camera breakthrough we’ve been waiting for?

0

MWC 2020 was supposed to be a grand event. Multiple tech giants had planned huge things, however, the outbreak of the corona virus ruined it all. Now, most of those smartphone companies are finalizing other dates for the launch of their product. For instance, Oppo Find X2 is scheduled to launch next week. Similarly, another major smartphone maker was planning on launching the Vivo Apex 2020 during MWC. But it wasn’t to be. Nevertheless, Vivo has finally decided to officially announce the Vivo Apex 2020.

Vivo Apex 2020 Overview

The Apex concept phones are known for their innovations. And Apex 2020 complies with that trend. It has a 6.45-inch screen with a resolution of 2330 x 1080 pixels and that wraps around the front edges of the screen. This might not seem groundbreaking, however, what lies inside the screen is what matters on this device.

The screen incorporates a 16MP selfie camera. Yes, the front camera is actually placed under the display itself. It uses 4 in 1 pixel binning to produce 4MP pictures. Moreover, the camera is covered by glass that is six times more light transmittable.

vivo apex 2020 under-display camera

The rear camera setup on the Vivo Apex 2020 is interesting too. There is a 48MP primary sensor that offers gimbal-level stabilization. In fact, Vivo claims that the lens has a 200% extended angle of stabilization as compared to the current OIS systems.

The other lens on the back camera is a 16MP periscope lens. It is capable of going from 5x to 7.5x zoom, and that too without any digital magnification. A very complex mechanism is used for the periscope camera’s working. There are two groups of fixed lenses and two groups of moving lenses that work in sync for the functioning of the periscope lens.

Another interesting thing about the device is that it has no openings at all. That means has to rely on the pressure sensing capacitive buttons. Moreover, no openings mean that the Vivo Apex 2020 can only be charged wirelessly. In fact, it has Super FlashCharge 60W. That means it can fully charge a 2,000 mAh battery in under 20 minutes.

You can watch the unveiling of the Vivo Apex 2020 in its full glory right here.

Availability

Now, as Vivo Apex 2020 is just a concept phone, it won’t be available at any retail stores. However, we’ll surely see some of the functionalities of the device in upcoming Vivo smartphones.

HTC Wildfire R70 announced with the most modest of specs!

0

These days, the smartphone business isn’t among the priorities for HTC though they are still announcing and launching them. The last phone by HTC  was the Wildfire X which was launched only in India and Thailand. Back in 2019, CEO Yves Maitre hinted at some activities in the smartphone segment as he announced that HTC will launch its first-ever 5G smartphone in 2020. While it may still be in progress, HTC has announced a new device called HTC Wildfire R70.

HTC Wildfire R70 Overview

HTC WIldfire R70 comes with a 6.53 IPS LCD panel with an aspect ratio of 19:5:9. It packs in a total of 720 x 1650 pixels. The display comes with narrow bezels except on the chin where the bezel is more profound.

The phone is powered by Helio P23 chipset which by today’s standard is very old and we doubt if it will be able to make a mark in today’s competitive market. There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage onboard. If that isn’t enough, users will be able to expand the storage using the microSD card slot.

It’s the camera department of HTC Wildfire R70 that is making all the sound. There are three camera sensors arranged vertically at the back of the device. The LED flash is just below them. The main camera uses a 16MP sensor with 1.4-micron pixel size and f/1.75 aperture. With such pixel, theoretically, it should perform well in dark and low lit areas. The main camera is accompanied by a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor.

The rest of the specs is pretty standard, if not disappointing. It comes with a 4,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging support. But the port here is a micro-USB port. It ships with Android 9 with HTC Sense UI on top. Connectivity-wise you get a dual 4G vote, Bluetooth 4.2, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n and 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

HTC WIldfire R70 Specifications

  • Display: 6.53″ IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution (720 x 1650 pixels)
  • Rear Camera: Triple, 16MP primary lens with 1.4-micron pixel size and f/1.75 aperture + 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture  + 2MP macro lens with f/2.4 aperture
  • Front Camera: 8MP lens with f/2.0 aperture
  • Processor: MediaTek Helio P23
  • GPU: Mali-G72MP1
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Storage: 32GB
  • Software: Android 9 with HTC Sense UI on top
  • Battery: 4,00mAh with 10W fast-charging
  • Sensors: Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer,  proximity, compass

Launch & Pricing

Just like the HTC Wildfire X, the Wildfire R70 will only be available in the Indian and Thai markets. As of now, HTC hasn’t revealed anything about the prices, however, HTC will have to keep it extremely low as the competition even in entry-level is surreal these days.

LG V60 ThinQ launched: Ticks (almost) all the boxes for a complete flagship phone!

0

“Contrasting the mainstream smartphone trends while still delivering an optimal smartphone experience.” What company does that, do you think? If you ask me, LG and Sony fall into that category. Each year, they come out with some exceptional smartphones with a great many exciting features. But at the end of the day, they all fall victim to poor marketing and thus is never the first choice of the average consumer. That’s kind-of justified as well since, for a similar price, other popular OEMs are offering a lot more as per the changing demands of the market. It doesn’t mean LG & Sony’s phones are trash, absolutely not; just that everything considered, they certainly do lag behind. Well, Sony’s already kicked off its 2020 smartphone campaign with the new Xperia 10 Mk II, 1 Mk II, & the crown-jewel – the Xperia PRO. And LG has now come aboard the launch-train as well with its new V60 ThinQ; its first flagship phone of 2020.

LG V60 ThinQ Overview

LG’s V-series has always been primarily about innovation in terms of cameras & audio among other aspects of a smartphone. But with last year’s V50 ThinQ, the company gave-in to the additional productivity bandwagon with a separate display, in the form of a detachable cover. Thankfully, the V60 ThinQ also comes with the case, alongside some software improvements this time around. So let’s talk about them first.

Design & Display

While companies like Samsung & Huawei are going out of their way to manufacture a folding display that needs to be handled like you would a child with osteoporosis, it’s certainly not how I’d envisioned how foldables would be. A seamlessly extended display is great and all, but the constant fear instilled in the user takes all the fun away.

Hey, what about two separate yet conjoined displays in a phone?

That could work, yes. Obviously, it’s nowhere near the same experience as the fluid foldable displays we’ve seen on the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and the new Huawei Mate Xs. The idea was first introduced by ZTE with its Axon M, with its dual foldable display attached with a hinge. LG improved upon the idea but turning the second display into a separate case that you can install and take off at will. So far, we’ve seen this implementation on the V50 ThinQ, and G8x ThinQ. The display on the case mimics the primary display in terms of size, aspect ratio & everything, while there’s also a small cover display out on the front.

LG V60 ThinQ Dual-display

The secondary display’s hinge can be arranged in the form of a laptop, where you can open separate apps on two screens, or use them concurrently. Though the latter was limited to some LG apps only, the company has worked with Google to fluently utilize the dual-display on some of its apps like Maps, YouTube, etc. And if you’re into gaming, you can have the second display turned into a gamepad for that Nintendo DS experience.

Main Display

Here, the primary screen on the V60 ThinQ is a 6.8-inches FHD+ P-OLED panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage & HDR10+ support. However, this one has the “standard” 60Hz refresh rate, while we’re expecting almost every flagship and even many mid-range phones to come with 90Hz or higher refresh rate. Moreover, the LG V60 ThinQ has ‘U’-shaped notch for the front camera, which in my opinion, should’ve been replaced with a punch-hole cutout, or a pop-up mechanism as it simply doesn’t complement the “flagship” experience in 2020.

More on the design, the phone is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 on the back while the display is secured by Gorilla Glass 5. Its frame is made of metal and still retains the IP68 rating for dust & water resistance. Similarly, the triple rear-cameras are placed horizontally like on the Galaxy S10+.

Cameras

On to the cameras, there are three sensors on the back like V50 ThinQ but LG has terminated the telephoto lens here. Instead, you get an improved 64MP primary sensor (that shoots 16MP pixel-binned images), a 13MP ultrawide sensor, and a 0.3MP ToF 3D sensor for depth sensing.

LG V60 ThinQ single front camera, triple rear camera

Besides photos, LG’s V-series has been known for its superior videography prowess in every iteration of the phone. And the V60 ThinQ doesn’t disappoint. First and foremost, you can now shoot 8K videos. Besides that, there’s a dedicated ASMR mode, and the 4-channel microphones on the device allow for a wider range of audio capture. Similarly, the “Voice Bokeh” feature helps isolate the background noises from what the subject is actually saying. Coming to the front is a 10MP selfie shooter inside the aforementioned notch.

Performance & Memory

Being a flagship phone that it is, the LG V60 ThinQ also comes with the latest hardware underneath. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 chipset, thus making it a 5G-ready phone. However, it only supports the sub-6GHz spectrum of 5G in major US carriers, while the faster mmWave 5G is only supported by Verizon.

Click here to learn more about the two spectrums of 5G connectivity.

Getting to the memory, the phone comes in a single 8/128GB configuration though you can expand the storage using a micro SD card. However, the internal storage on V60 ThinQ still relies on the older & slower UFS 2.1 protocol, while there are already phones with a much faster UFS 3.1 storage on the market. The phone runs on LG UX 9.0 on top of Android 10.

LG v60 ThinQ still retains the treasured 3.5mm headphone jack!

Yes, you read that right. While even Samsung has skimped on it in its new flagship phones, LG knows just how important the headphone jack is. The phone has 32-bit Quad DAC for a superior wired audio experience. Furthermore, the phone borrows the 3D Sound Engine technology from LG’s OLED TV lineup that delivers optimized audio depending upon the content via its stereo speakers.

Battery

The battery’s seen a big bump on the V60 ThinQ as well. While last year’s V50 ThinQ came with a decent 4000mAh cell, the V60 takes things a step ahead with a 25% larger 5000mAh cell. It supports Quick Charge 4.0+ fast charging (18W) and 27W charging in USB-PD 2.0 mode.

LG V60 ThinQ - multitasking on the dual screen

And because the back is made of glass, the phone has wireless charging capability as well.

Hey, won’t an additional display suck away the so-called “big battery”?

Yeah, you’re right. Because the second display is powered by the phone itself, that may be worrisome. However, you can detach it when you don’t want it and more importantly, both displays are a regular 60Hz FHD+ panel.

How is the new Huawei Mate Xs different from the original Mate X?

For some reasons, the smartphone industry is convinced that the foldable smartphones are the future. It all started with Royole FlexPai. Since then the top smartphone companies are battling it out for supremacy in the foldable technology. In between that, an unannounced rivalry between Huawei and Samsung kicked off; however, we can still argue if the audience liked either of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold or Huawei’s Mate X as foldable smartphones, in general, came with a lot of problems of their own. 2020 looks to be the year the problem will be fixed. Samsung has already released the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip with its Ultra-Thin Glass technology. Huawei has followed Samsung by launching a successor to Huawei Mate X– the Huawei Mate Xs.

Huawei Mate Xs Overview

Just like the moniker, Huawei hasn’t changed much in the Huawei Mate Xs as compared to Huawei Mate X. In terms of design and exterior looks, there is hardly anything separating the two devices. So, it is safe to say that the motto was to make it more durable and reliable. And in doing so, Huawei has thrown in some upgrades in terms of hardware.

Design and Display

While Samsung and Motorola are now turning to clamshell foldable design, Huawei has stuck to its outward folding design. Unlike any of the foldable in the market, you don’t have to unfold the device to get to the screen as the screen lies on the outer surface. The back of the device is almost flat except for the bump to house the camera module. The specification of the screen is also unchanged; Huawei Mate Xs also comes with a 6.6-inch OLED panel which when unfolded extends up to 8-inch.

Huawei Mate Xs Dimensions

Polyamide Protection Film

The change, however, is in the protection film on top of the screen and the folding mechanism. Huawei has thrown in a bi-layer polyamide film on top of the screen to protect the screen as the outward folding mechanism exposes the screen to real-world hazards. To ensure it doesn’t suffer the fate of the Samsung Galaxy Flip, Huawei has warned users not to remove the dedicated protective film. It has also suggested people not to use any third-party protective film. Below the layer, lies the screen which is separated from the device with the help of a polymer layer. And there is no glass involved in any part of the screen.

Strengthened Hinge

For durability, Huawei has turned to a hinge mechanism made up of a liquid metal-based on zirconium. The interlocking components in the hinge are said to make the folding and unfolding process even more smooth. To extend the life of the device, Huawei has suggested preventing any object including liquid from getting near the hinge and the device.

Integrated 5G

Huawei Mate Xs comes with some internal upgrades to its predecessor as well. The most notable one is in the chipset department. It comes with an octa-core Kirin 990 5G chipset. The chipset comes with an integrated 5G modem (Balong 5000). The graphics department is handled by Mali-G76 and there is also a neural processor based on Huawei’s Da Vinci architecture to care for your AI needs. For storage, we have 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Huawei has also introduced a new cooling system solely for foldable smartphone that utilizes flexible bionic graphite for balanced dissipation of heat.

Huawei Mate Xs innovative cooling technology

Software Side

Huawei Mate Xs comes with the latest Android 10 with Huawei’s EMUI version 10.0.1 on top. However, it won’t come loaded with the essential Google Mobile Services (GMS) courtesy of the ongoing US ban. GMS will be replaced by Huawei Mobile Service which we doubt can fill the void of the mighty GMS. At a given time, Huawei claims the Mate Xs can feature one app in each part of a screen and the third one in the form of a floating window.

Same Old Camera Setup

The camera and the battery have been left unchanged in the Mate Xs from the Mate X. It features Leica’s 40MP quad-camera setup. The primary camera is accompanied by an 8MP telephoto lens, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 3D depth sensor. It comes with the same 4,500 mAh battery. There is also a finger-print mounted on the right side of the device.

Huawei Mate Xs Specifications

  • Display: Main (6.6-inches OLED panel); Secondary (6.38-inches OLED panel )

Huawei Mate Xs Launch And Pricing

While Huawei didn’t release the original Mate X outside China, it is planning to launch the Huawei Mate Xs in the global markets. As of now, it is priced at 2,500 Euros (~NRs. 3,12,000) which makes more expensive than last year’s Samsung Galaxy Fold and this year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. The Mate Xs will go up for pre-booking in China starting March 5 for¥16,999 (~NRs. 2,76,320) on Huawei’s e-commerce site Vmall.com.

Vivo iQOO 3 finally unveiled: Flagship Specs, Mid-range Price

0

The rumors have been proved right; Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO has finally landed in India. iQOO, with its premium lineup of gaming smartphones, became a well-known name in the Chinese market. And now, the company looks to replicate it in the Indian market in the second year of its establishment. iQOO wanted the title of first 5G phone in India but that has since been snatched away by Realme X50 Pro 5G.  Anyways let’s learn more about Vivo IQOO 3 along with its price and expected availability date in Nepal.

iQOO 3 Overview

Chipset

iQOO has never disappointed in the chipset department by always including the latest flagship chipset and the iQOO 3 is no different. It comes with the latest Snapdragon 865 chipset. One can choose between three different memory configurations- 8/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/256GB. The last one is the only variant that supports 5G. Though it is not the first 5G phone in India, it is indeed the first one to come with the UFS 3.1 storage. RAM on this device is also based on the latest LPDDR5 technology.

Display

It comes with a 6.44-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Display. Even being a flagship gaming phone, it doesn’t come with the trendy 120Hz refresh rate. iQOO has instead provided a 60Hz display coupled with a 180Hz response rate.

iQOO 3 display, camera, and color options

The display can be bright up to 1200 nits. There is a punch-hole on the top right of the display for the front camera and the fingerprint sensor has been included under the display.

Camera

It comes with a quad-camera setup on the back. The primary sensor comes with a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor. It is accompanied by a telephoto lens and an ultrawide sensor (both of 13MP) and a 2MP depth sensor. Upfront there is a 16MP front camera for selfies. It may not be the best camera setup on paper in this price range but when has a gaming phone wowed us with its cameras anyway.

Others

On the right side of the phone, you get two “Monster Touch” pressure-sensitive buttons that you can assign different in-game functions. One can enter the Monster mode by holding the two keys together. You will also be able to feel in-game recoil and steering with 4D vibration. This mode will enable the chipset to run at its full capacity.

iQOO 3 55w fast charging

For longer gaming sessions, iQOO has included a massive 4,400mAH battery. It is complemented by a 55W fast charging technology that the company claims can charge the phone up to 50% in 15 minutes. The phone will ship with iQOO UI 1.0 on top of Android 10.

Sony Xperia 10 II launched: You can do better Sony!

0

Sony today launched two of its highly anticipated devices, namely – the Xperia 1 II and Xperia PRO professional tool. However, there was another smartphone that was announced during the event too. And that device is the new Sony Xperia 10 II.

Now, the device is not pronounced in a conventional way. Rather it is pronounced as Xperia Ten Mark Two. Honestly, I find it a bit cringy, however, that’s also how Alpha DSLR cameras are named and the Xperia 10 II is a direct homage to that. Can’t really complain then, can we?

Sony Xperia 10 II Overview

To put it bluntly, the Xperia 10 II seems like your average mid-ranger. It has a 6-inch OLED display panel with an aspect ratio of 21:9. Similarly, it offers Full HD+ resolution.

Moving on, you get a triple camera setup on the back. It includes a 12MP primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens. As for the front camera, it has an 8MP selfie shooter.

sony xperia 10 II mark ten two black display camera

Under the hood, the device is powered by Snapdragon 665 SoC with a memory combination of 4GB/128GB. Don’t get me wrong, SD 665 is an efficient chip, however, I believe that SD 730 would’ve made a whole lot of sense with this device or even the new Snapdragon 765/765G. But me believing something does not change the fact, does it?

Furthermore, the Xperia 10 II is also water and dust resistant. In fact, it has an IP65/68 rating and also the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on both front and the back of the device. And with that, I guess we are done with the major upgrades or “highlights” of the Xperia 10 II.

Thus, as I mentioned earlier, this device seems like your average mid-ranger. Obviously, there are some other changes from its predecessors. For instance, this device comes with a 3600mAh battery. The largest yet among Sony’s mid-range offerings. Still, it is not such a big change. Also, this year’s model is 10% lighter and slightly taller than the Xperia 10. However, they don’t sound much appealing, do they?

Sony Xperia 1 II & Xperia PRO go official: A comeback with “alpha” camera phones!

Since the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress, smartphones brand are now launching their devices through online-only events. Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 10 series through an online event in China. Realme too did it for the X50 Pro 5G. And now, Sony has unveiled Sony Xperia 1 II (pronounced Sony Xperia One Mark Two) through an online event, and also announced Xperia PRO targeted at professional level photography. So, let’s find out how it differs from flagship phones from other brands.

Sony Xperia 1 II Overview

With the Sony Xperia 1 II, Sony too has joined the 5G bandwagon. The successor to last year’s Xperia 1, comes with the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 865. There are 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage onboard.

The Sony Xperia 1 II comes with a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Sony doesn’t look keen on joining the high-refresh-rate-bandwagon. Instead, Sony has gone with Motion Blur Reduction technology. However, the company claims it is on par with 90Hz display as it can reduce lag by adjustment of frames based on the content on the screen. Both the front and the back of the phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The Xperia 1 II comes with a 12MP ZEISS’s triple camera setup on the back. The 24mm primary camera comes with f/1.7 aperture with a larger 1/1.7-inch Exmor sensor. It is accompanied by a 16mm f/2.2 ultrawide sensor and a 70mm f/2.4 telephoto lens. All the lens come with ZEISS’s anti-reflective coating. There is an 8MP sensor on the front for selfies.

It is not the strongest setup at least on the paper, but there is more than what meets the eye. Sony claims this to the first phone to support up to 20fps in burst mode. Sony also claims that it can calculate AF/AE at up to 60 times/second. The Eye autofocus from Xperia 1 now works both with humans and animals. The phone can record 4K videos at 60fps and 2K videos at 120fps.

The Sony Xperia 1 II comes with IP65 and IP68 ratings against water and dust. it comes with a decent 4,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging. Unlike the recent trends in flagship phones, this one comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which was dropped in its predecessor. A fingerprint sensor is placed on the right side of the device.

Sony Xperia Pro
Sony Xperia Pro

Alongside Xperia 1 II, Sony also unveiled Sony Xperia PRO which looks to be designed for professionals. The specs of the device aren’t official yet. However, it will come with an HDMI port which will help it double as a camera monitor and will be compatible with Sony’s Alpha cameras. The device will likely be used as a broadcasting device as it will also be coming with 5G connectivity.

In practice, the phone could be used as a monitor, a capture device, or a broadcast terminal since it has an incredibly color-accurate 6.5-inches 4K HDR OLED display. It also has a 4-way 5G mmWave antenna arrangement and “low permittivity materials” that facilitate 360º connectivity at speeds of up to 5Gbps or more.

Besides these, the phone is powered by Snapdragon 865 and comes with 8/512GB of memory configuration. Though not every spec about the phone has been revealed, let’s take a look at the confirmed spec-sheet of the Sony Xperia PRO.
