HTC U23 Pro with a 108MP camera, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 launched

1

HTC isn’t a household name in the smartphone industry anymore like it was around a decade ago. The company has been launching some budget and midrange smartphones lately, but none of them have found any notable success. Despite this, HTC U23 Pro is now official, which brings a 108MP camera, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and more. Let’s learn more about HTC U23 Pro, including its features, official specifications, availability, expected price in Nepal, and more.

HTC U23 Pro Overview:

Design and Display

HTC U23 Pro first made its way online via Taiwan’s PTT message board. Alongside some live hands-on images, renders of the phone revealed its plastic back and frames. And those speculations turned out to be true after all since HTC U23 Pro indeed has an all-plastic build with Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front. Available in either “Coffee Black” or “Snow White” color options, this phone is IP67 dust and water-resistant too.

Vast Space announces SpaceX partnership for world’s first private space station

0

Vast Space, a new aerospace company settled to making human life multi-planetary, has recently announced its joint proposal with SpaceX to launch the first commercially viable space station, named Haven-1. With the news of NASA deorbiting the ISS and crashing it into the Pacific Ocean by 2031, many private space companies have started planning to build a commercial station to grab a spot in Earth’s low orbit.

Haven-1

The Vast is planning to send Haven-1 via Falcon-9 rocket (SpaceX’s spacecraft that has been serving for more than a decade) to the low orbit and leave it there to free float independently. The Haven-1 will have life-sustaining consumables of its own, along with science and experimentation tools, 1000W of power, always-available WiFi, and a huge dome for photography. It is only about 10 meters long and 4 meters wide, which is enough room to accommodate 4 people.

It is designed to be compatible with SpaceX Dragon spacecraft for easy crew transportation between the station and Earth. Despite its highly regulated environment, Haven-1 will prioritize the privacy of astronauts, ensuring their schedules remain confidential.

Haven 1 inside SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket

Vast-1

The Vast-1 mission will subsequently follow the Haven-1, where 4 astronauts will leave for Haven-1 in SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft. SpaceX will train the astronauts to carry out their duties and reside within the spacecraft for almost a month before concluding their missions and returning to Earth in a Crew Dragon Capsule.

The mission as a whole is an absolute opportunity to know about in-space manufacturing, advanced search, and related research, benefiting not only those directly involved in the mission but also anyone with interest in the future of space exploration.

Space X Dragon-Spacecraft Docking to Have-1

Vast’s declaration

The Vast announced to sell of all four seats at its initial launch to individuals related to domestic and foreign space agency projects, of which the pricing is not declared yet.

The CEO of Vast Space, Jeb McCaleb described that he is not seeking for any outsiders to invest in this plan until the space station starts generating revenue and also added that he is investing $300 million of his own.

Vast is thrilled to embark on this journey of launching the world’s first commercial space station, Haven-1, and its first crew, Vast-1

Vast’s long-term vision is to build a 328 feet long module that can spin to generate artificial gravity that can simulate a lunar-like experience. For this, Vast is trying to explore the possibility of the world’s first spinning artificial gravity experiment on Haven-1.

Competition and Prospects for Haven-1

Many other private aerospace companies, including Blue Origin, Starlab, and Axiom, are planning their own space station and have an equal chance to put Vast in the shade. The concepts sound very absorbing, but like many other announcements of putting up a colony on Mars or Galileo’s mission to Jupiter, this also can be a topic of wait and observe.

Lava Agni 2 announced with Dimensity 7050 chip and 66W fast charging

0

Lava is still trying to get back in the competition with its Blaze, Agni, and Benco Series after getting stiff for years. The Lava Agni 5G smartphone was launched in 2021 and now the Indian company has announced its predecessor, the Lava Agni 2. It comes with a Mediatek Dimensity 7050 CPU, 50MP main camera, 66W fast charging, and more. In this article, we’ll walk through the specs, features, and expected price of Lava Agni 2 in Nepal.

Lava Agni 2 Overview:

Design and Display

Taking a glance at the official images, the Agni 2 boasts a premium design with a curved display and a glossy back. It is a glass sandwich body supported by a plastic frame in between. The phone has a very thin chin, thanks to its 2.37mm bottom bezel.

Lava Agni 2 Design and DisplayComing to the front, the smartphone houses a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution. This curved panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 105% NTSC color gamut, and HDR 10+. It is also oleophobic coated to keep the smudges away. Besides that, Lava has used double-reinforced glass for protection against scratches.

Dimensity 7050

Under the hood, the Agni 2 is powered by a freshly announced Mediatek Dimensity 7050 SoC. This 5G silicon’s moniker is new but the cores and architecture are basically the same as the Dimensity 1080 chip. To keep the thermals in check, there is a 2900m3 large vapor chamber cooling solution as well.

Mediatek Dimensity 7050

The phone boots on the Lava’s custom ‘Agni Shapath’ OS built on top of Android 13 with no bloatware and ads as claimed. Lava is offering software updates up to Android 15 and 3 years of quarterly security updates. Besides that, the Lava Agni 2 comes in a sole 8/256GB variant.

Camera

As for the optics, the Agni 2 sports a quad camera setup, headed by a 50MP main lens with a 1.0µm pixel size sensor, 8MP ultrawide shooter, and a 2MP+2MP depth and macro combos. Upfront, you are looking at a 16MP selfie snapper placed in the hole-punch cutout.

Battery, Charging, and Others

The smartphone gets its juice from a 4700mAh battery. This Li-Po cell is accompanied by 66W fast charging support which can fill it up by 50% in less than 16 minutes as per Lava. And the connectivity options on this phone include 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. OPPO F23 5G goes official with 120Hz IPS display, 67W fast charging

0

OPPO’s “F” series is a pretty popular lineup of midrange smartphones from the Chinese tech giant. And OPPO F23 5G is the latest addition to this series, which is an apparent successor to 2021’s OPPO F19 since last year’s OPPO F21 Pro series didn’t have a vanilla F21 model. By the way, OPPO F23 5G is a simple rebrand of the OPPO A98 that launched in Malaysia a week ago. So let’s get into the specs, features, and expected price of OPPO F23 5G in Nepal.

OPPO F23 5G Overview:

Design and Display

Like how most OPPO phones have a special emphasis on visual aesthetics, the F23 5G gets a similar treatment. It boasts a boxy form factor with 8mm thick flat frames. Looking at the rear side, the circular camera module is encased in a pill-shaped frame with a shiny glowing pattern flowing below. The back panel is also 3D curved and carries a glossy outlook, especially on the “Bold Gold” color variant. Whereas the “Cool Black” derives a subtle dark look.

Oppo F23 5G Design and DisplayOn the front, you get a 6.72-inch IPS LCD panel with an FHD resolution. This screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut too. Thanks to its LTPS technology, the display also features a 6-level variable refresh rate option.

Performance

And running the show on the OPPO F23 5G is Qualcoomm’s Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, which is almost two years old now. This mid-range silicon consists of two Kryo 660 Gold (Cortex-A78 @2.2 GHz) and six Kryo 660 Silver cores (Cortex-A55 @1.7 GHz). Handling the graphics here is an Adreno 619 GPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G SoC

For a 2023 smartphone, this chip should still suffice the needs for casual everyday usage and some gaming. But something newer like the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 would’ve been a much better choice. The phone is available in a sole 8GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration and boots on ColorOS 13.1 built on top of Android 13.

Camera

Moving on, OPPO F23 5G houses a triple camera setup, headlined by a 64MP f/1.7 primary shooter. It is followed by a 2MP microscopic sensor with 20/40x zoom and a 2MP monochrome unit. Yep, there’s no ultrawide camera here. Upfront, you get a 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera with 89° FoV. Sadly, both the front and back cameras can only record up to 1080p 30fps videos.

Oppo F23 5G Camera

Battery and Others

This smartphone gets its juice from a 5000mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC and 18W USB-PD charging support. For connectivity, it has 5G, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Furthermore, OPPO F23 5G houses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and dual stereo speakers.

OPPO F23 5G Specifications:

  • Display: 6.72″ FHD+ IPS LCD, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate

OPPO F23 5G Price in Nepal and Availability

Amazfit Pop 2 launched in Nepal with AMOLED screen and Bluetooth calling

1

Right after the launch of the Amazfit GTR Mini, Amazfit Pop 2 is now available in Nepal as well. This budget smartwatch comes with some pretty interesting features like an AMOLED display and Bluetooth calling. In this article, we’ll walk through the specs, features, and official price of the Amazfit Pop 2 smartwatch in Nepal.

Amazfit Pop 2 Overview:

Design and Display

Amazfit Pop 2 resembles the design language of the company’s “Bip” series of budget smartwatches. As such, it doesn’t have that premium look you’d expect from the more premium “GTS” or “GTR” lineup here. Still and all, it does come with a 2.5D curved screen encased in a glossy metallic frame.

Amazfit Pop 2 Design and Display

Its 1.78-inch AMOLED panel boasts a 368 x 448 pixels resolution and supports Always on Display (AOD) as well. Besides that, you’ll find the speaker and a button on the right frame while there’s a mic on the left and a PPG sensor at the bottom. For protection against dust and water damage, Amazfit Pop 2 is IP68 rated too.

Health and Fitness Tracking

This budget smartwatch bears all the basic health tracking features such as step counting, sleep tracking, heart rate, and SpO2 monitoring. As for sports and fitness, the watch provides 100+ sports modes to try, such as running, climbing, walking, basketball, football, and more. But Amazfit Pop 2 lacks built-in GPS, so you’ll have to carry your smartphone for recording location data.

Bluetooth Calling, OS, Connectivity

Moving on, one of the main highlights of this smartwatch is its Bluetooth calling feature. So users can receive and make calls from the watch itself. And since this watch is manufactured by LinWear Smartwatch, an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) brand, its UI is a bit different than usual Amazfit smartwatches. Even the companion app for Pop 2 is “Zepp Active” instead of the regular “Zepp” app.

Amazfit Pop 2 Zepp Active

Still, this thing boasts all the goodies such as custom watch faces, music playback control, a camera shutter button, a weather app, a voice assistant, etc. It connects to your Android or iOS smartphone via Bluetooth 5.2.

Battery

Fueling this smartwatch is a 270mAh battery that gets filled with a magnetic charging connector in 2 hours. Its battery is rated to last for up to 10 days on typical usage.

Sony Xperia 10 V announced with a 60Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 695

Alongside the flagship Xperia 1 V, Sony also announced the midrange Xperia 10 V last week. It is the successor to last year’s Xperia 10 IV and brings a couple of upgrades like a brighter display, larger image sensors, and more. So let’s get right into the specifications, features, availability, and expected price in Nepal of the Sony Xperia 10 V.

Sony Xperia 10 V Overview:

Design and Build

Sony Xperia 10 V camera

Like its predecessor, Sony Xperia 10 V has a plastic back and Gorilla Glass Victus-protected display. The phone is IP65 and IP68 dust/water resistant, and it weighs just 159 grams. It comes in Black, White, Lavender, and Sage Green color options.

The display here is a 6.1-inch FHD OLED panel with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t upgraded to a higher refresh rate this time either as the Xperia 10 V’s display still refreshes at just 60Hz. But Sony does say this screen can get up to 50% brighter than the one on the Xperia 10 IV, so that’s something.

Camera

Moving on, Xperia 10 V has three cameras at the back housed in a pill-shaped array. Sony has replaced the 12MP main camera with a 48MP 1/2.0″ Exmor RS sensor here. But its 8MP ultrawide, 8MP telephone zoom, and 8MP selfie camera remain pretty much the same.

Performance

Sony Xperia 10 V cpu

Likewise, Xperia 10 V doesn’t get any upgrade in the performance department either. It is powered by the same-old Snapdragon 695 5G chipset which is complemented by 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. There’s still a microSD slot for expanding the memory though. The phone runs on Android 13 and is fueled by a big 5000mAh battery that supports USB-PD charging.

Sony Xperia 10 V Specifications:

  • Body: Gorilla Glass Victus (front), plastic (back/frames)
  • Durability: IP65/IP68 dust and water resistant
  • Display: 6.1″ FHD OLED panel, 21:9 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, 120Hz touch sampling rate, 100% DCI-P3 gamut
  • Rear Cameras: (with LED flash)

Samsung Galaxy A23 receives a price cut in Nepal for the 3rd time

1

Samsung Galaxy A23 has received yet another price cut in Nepal. The phone made its debut over a year ago in the country to a lukewarm reception. Let’s check out the Samsung Galaxy A23 in more detail, alongside its specs, features, availability, and latest price in Nepal.

Samsung Galaxy A23 Overview:

Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy A23 is the revision to 2021’s Galaxy A22. It boasts a similar design language with multiple color options and a trendy-looking design. Available in three color options—Blue, Orange, and Black—the right frame of the device houses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. There is also a White color variant, but that is not available in Nepal. Likewise, it weighs 195 gm and is 8.4mm thick.

The front of the Samsung Galaxy A23 houses a 6.6-inch TFT 90Hz LCD screen with a Full HD resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. There’s a familiar-looking V-shaped notch that houses an 8MP selfie camera. The display is also covered by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, which should provide protection against damage from drops and scratches.

Performance and Battery

Under the hood, Samsung Galaxy A23 boasts a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. Sadly, Samsung only includes a 15W charger in the box. Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chip. This has been paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. For software, the phone boots on Android 12-based One UI 4.1 (upgradeable).

Cameras

Asus ROG Ally is a $599 answer to Valve’s Steam Deck

The handheld gaming console market is populated by the likes of Valve (Steam Deck), AYANEO, GPD, and more. And Asus—a veteran in the gaming phone and gaming laptop/PC industry—has officially joined in on the fun with the “ROG Ally”. So let’s learn more about the Asus ROG Ally including its features, specs, availability, expected price in Nepal, and more.

Asus ROG Ally Overview:

By the way, the company first announced the ROG Ally on April 1, which most of us dismissed as a simple April Fools’ joke. But no, it’s an actual product that you’ll be able to purchase starting next month.

Design

Asus says it has designed ROG Ally with optimal comfort in mind. This consists of slanted chassis for easier grip, careful button placements, and a fairly thin and lightweight design. Compared to the Steam Deck which measures 45mm thick and weighs 669 grams, the Ally is just 32mm thick while weighing around 608 grams.

Available in a single white color option, this Windows handheld machine has all the control options you could ask for. Including ABXY, directional buttons (D-pad), left/right analog thumb sticks with customizable RGB, left/right bumpers, and left/right hall triggers. On top of this, the ROG Ally also has view and command center buttons on the left, a menu and Armoury Crate button on the right, and a couple of programmable macro keys at the back.

Interestingly, Asus has reserved all the I/O options at the top of the device. You can find one 3.5mm headphone jack, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (with DisplayPort 1.4), one microSD card reader (UHS-II), and one ROG XG mobile interface. Then there’s a power button with Windows Hello-certified fingerprint reader embedded into it and the volume rockers too.

Display and Audio

Getting to the display, Asus ROG Ally has a glossy 7″ IPS LCD screen with an FHD resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a 120Hz refresh rate. To compare, Steam Deck features a 7″ FHD IPS display too, but with a 60Hz refresh rate and a taller 16:10 aspect ratio. With a 7ms response time and AMD FreeSync Premium support, ROG Ally’s display is also a step above most other Windows handheld devices.

Asus ROG Ally - Speakers

As for color accuracy, this touchscreen covers 100% sRGB and 75.35% AdobeRGB color gamut. To maintain better outdoor visibility, the ROG Ally gets as bright as 500 nits while there is Corning’s DXC coating to minimize screen reflections. Oh, and the display itself is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. In terms of audio, Asus has set up a couple of front-firing speakers that support Dolby Atmos.

Performance

Performance-wise, the Asus ROG Ally comes in two flavors of AMD chips; Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme. Both of these processors are pretty similar to AMD’s latest “Phoenix” Ryzen 7040 series of APUs but customized for handheld devices.

Here, Ryzen Z1 is 6 cores/12 threads CPU with 2.8 teraflops of performance, a boost clock of 4.90 GHz, and a 4-core Radeon 740M GPU. While the Z1 Extreme is the real deal with 8 cores/16 threads CPU and a whopping 8.6 teraflops of performance, 5.10 GHz of max turbo frequency, and a 12-core Radeon 780M GPU. Built on TSMC’s 4nm process, Zen 4 CPU architecture, and RDNA 3 GPU architecture, Asus is promising some serious performance from these APUs. Around 50 – 60 fps at 1080p in most modern AAA titles.

AMD Ryzen Z1 series CPU

And if you’ve been keeping score, you’ll know that the Z1 Extreme is pretty similar to Ryzen 7 7840U. Anyway, can configure the Asus ROG Ally with three power profiles in total, ranging between 9 – 30W. Here, the “Silent” keeps the power consumption to a minimum at 9W, while the “Performance” and “Turbo” modes crank it up to 15W and 25W, respectively. And if you’re on AC power, this Windows handheld can even suck up to 30W of power.

More. power.

If that’s not enough GPU horsepower for you, then Asus even gives you the option to hook up an NVIDIA RTX 4090 or AMD RX 6850M XT external GPU via the aforementioned ROG XG Mobile Interface. Besides the extra bit of performance itself, Asus ROG XG Mobile docks also add a bunch of I/O options, including one HDMI 2.1, one ethernet (RJ45), one SD card reader, and one USB Type-A port. And in the case of ROG XG Mobile GC33 (the one with RTX 4090), an additional USB Type-C port too.

Memory options for the ROG Ally include 16GB LPDDR5 RAM in dual channel and 256GB SSD in the Ryzen Z1 or 512GB SSD in the Ryzen Z1 Extreme version. Both of them use an M.2 2230 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, by the way. To keep things nice and cool, Asus has used a dual-fan design with something called “anti-gravity” heat pipes that apparently provides better airflow when the device is upside down.

And of course, it runs on Windows 11 (Home). So, unlike the Steam Deck which can only play games from your Steam library, the ROG Ally essentially lets you enjoy all the PC games. Asus is even throwing away 3 months of free “Xbox Game Pass Ultimate” here. On a related note, the Asus-made “Armoury Crate SE” app is there to help you make all sorts of customizations like limiting FPS, key mapping, power presets, and more. Or it can just double as a hub for all your installed games as well.

Battery and others

ROG Ally gets its juice from a modest 40Wh battery. And according to Asus, you can expect up to 2 hours of screen time with heavy gaming under “Performance” mode. Or up to 6.8 hours of YouTube/Netflix playback under “Silent” mode. On the other hand, it has WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.
