Lenovo has just unveiled two new gaming laptop series under the Legion branding. The new Legion Pro 5 replaces last year’s Legion 5, while the Legion 7 Pro takes the place of last year’s Legion 7. In this article, we will discuss the specs, features, latest price, and availability of the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 Series (2023) in Nepal.

Lenovo Legion Pro 7 Series (2023) Overview:

CPU and GPU

There are two models under the Legion Pro 7 gaming series: Legion Pro 7 and Pro 7i. The former is an AMD-variant powered by the new Ryzen 9 7945HX. The “i” in the Pro 7i stands for Intel, and it is powered by the latest 13 Gen Raptor Lake mobile processor. Unlike the AMD version, you do get to choose the CPU here, as Lenovo ships the laptop in Core i9-13900HX and Core i7-13700HX variations.

As it is Lenovo’s premium gaming lineup, the Legion Pro 7 series packs the high-end RTX 40-series GPUs. Even here, the Intel-powered Legion Pro 7i has more GPU options. You can only pair the Ryzen 9 7945HX on the Legion 5 Pro (2023) with either RTX 4090 or RTX 4080—with a 175W TGP. However, the Intel variant also offers an RTX 4070 option in the base variant.

That aside, the new Legion Pro 7 series (2023) features a MUX Switch to connect the GPU directly to the display—avoiding the latency and performance drop brought by having the integrated GPU in between. This dedicated GPU mode will ensure a better gaming experience than what we get with the hybrid mode.

New AI Chip and Cooling

Talking about the improved gaming experience, the new Legion Pro 7 and Pro 7i now feature a dedicated AI chip called Lenovo LA chip. This will now power the Lenovo AI Engine+ to boost the maximum frame rates. The chip on the Legion Pro 7 is named LA2-Q, which makes us believe it is better than the LA1 on the Legion Pro 5 series. However, Lenovo has not shared much detail about the two chips for us to be conclusive.

What we do know for certain is that the new Legion Pro 7 has a better cooling setup than its smaller sibling. Here, you get the new Legion Coldfront 5.0, consisting of a dual-fan system, phase-change thermal material, and hybrid heat pipes. In addition, you get a liquid metal cooling for the CPU and a dedicated vapor chamber. The vapor chamber on the base RTX 4070 variant covers only the CPU, whereas it is expanded to cover both CPU and GPU on other models.

Design and Display

Even on the design front, Lenovo Legion Pro 7 series stand out because of the premium metal build. Lenovo says to have molded the chassis from recycled aluminum and magnesium and finished it with a matching Onyx Grey color variation.

Opening the metal lid, you are greeted with a 16” WQXGA IPS screen with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 3ms response rate. The screen has 100% sRGB coverage and can get as bright as 500 nits. It even has VESA HDR DisplayHDR 400 certification to back it. Furthermore, the “Puresight Gaming” display has NVIDIA G-Sync and X-Rite Pantone certification.

Fueling the Legion Pro 7 and Pro 7i is a 99.99WHr battery rated for 12 hours of endurance. The new gaming laptops have Super Rapid Charge technology, allowing them to go from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes. Moreover, the laptop can charge fully in an hour’s time.

You can configure the laptop with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM using the two SO-DIMM slots. What’s interesting here is that Lenovo has added support for overclocked 6000MHz memory sticks, which we don’t see in laptops that often.

Honor, the offshoot brand of Huawei, has now launched a new smartphone under its Play series. Here in this article, we will discuss the new Honor Play 50 Plus, along with its expected price in Nepal, specifications, and so on.

Honor Play 50 Plus Overview

Display and Design

The Honor Play 50 Plus is a rounded rectangle phone sporting a reflective wavy design on the back. The phone has a camera island on its top left corner with two large camera cutouts. It measures 166.70 x 76.50 x 8.24 mm while weighing 199 grams. Meanwhile, it is available in four colour options: Magic Night Black, Mo Yuquing (Green), Star Purple, and Streaming Silver.

Up in front, we have a flat display with a centre-aligned hole-punch camera cutout. Specifically, it is a 6.8-inch IPS LCD panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. Furthermore, it sports an aspect ratio of 20:09 while offering 850 nits of peak brightness and a 90Hz refresh rate.

MiOS isn’t coming. MIUI 15 confirmed instead

There have been rumors regarding Xiaomi’s MIUI being replaced with MiOS soon. But recent developments have proven that claim to be baseless and unlikely. In this article, let’s delve into the claims and responses to gain a deeper understanding of the MIUI/MiOS situation.

End of Xiaomi’s MIUI?

A reliable leakster, Digital Chat Station, posted on Chinese social media Weibo claiming that the current MIUI 14 will be the last official version of MIUI. Speculators suggested that it might be replaced by something entirely new like MiOS. Xiaomi would go the ‘Huawei Route’ to launch its own Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and run that instead. This is supported by the fact that Xiaomi has already trademarked the MiOS name and mios.cn domain in China. But a new blog post on Xiaomiui forums speaks a different tale.

MiOS is not coming, prepare for MIUI 15 instead

The blog post by Erencan Yilmaz begins by addressing the claims as ‘baseless and untrue’. The author then states that the Chinese giant is currently testing the MIUI 15 update which will be officially released with the upcoming Xiaomi 14 phones. He doesn’t outright shut down the claims of MiOS though instead opting for the ‘we don’t have that information’ response.

The author even entertains the idea stating that, “If such a switch were to happen, it would only take place in China. MiOS would not be available globally.” But quickly points out that Xiaomi’s current focus lies on optimizing their MIUI skin and not launching a new operating system.

Who to trust?

Although Digital Chat Station is a trusted source, he didn’t cite any sources for his claims. On the other hand, Erecan provides screenshots of the latest internal builds of MIUI 15 obtained directly from the official Xiaomi server. Hence, it is much more likely that MIUI isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and MiOS is still far from our sights.

ZTE might not be the most popular name in the Nepalese market with fewer offerings. But after quite a time, the company has finally launched a new smartphone, the ZTE Nubia Neo in Nepal. It packs a Unisoc T820 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and sits in the midrange segment. In this article, we’ll walk through the specs, features, and official price of the ZTE Nubia Neo in Nepal.

Design and Display

In terms of looks, the Nubia Neo boasts a sporty design on the rear side. You get yellow and black stripes, forming a gaming vibe. The frame is also on the slim sides, measuring 7.98mm. ZTE ships this guy in two color options: Phantom Black and War-Damaged Yellow.

Design

As aforementioned, the new AirPods Pro comes with a USB-C port instead of Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector. Let’s move on to the audio, where Apple made significant improvements this year. It’s now driven by the new H2 chip which enables better ANC. Per Apple, the new AirPods Pro cancels up to twice as much noise as the previous generation.

There’s also a new transparency mode that listens for and cancels out any loud noises around you. Like in a construction site, as the company hinted at the launch event.

Moving on, the AirPods Pro is sweat and water-resistant due to the IPX4 rating. So, it should protect your AirPods from splashes and slight rain. But don’t go around swimming in your AirPods Pro, or put it to charge in the charging case when wet, because the case isn’t IPX4 rated. Thou hath been warned!

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) makes its debut!

You wouldn’t buy earbuds for noise cancellation, now would you? Particularly because of their form-factor, the earbuds will not be that effective when it comes to filtering out the external noise. But Apple is pushing its new AirPods to feature “Active Noise Cancellation“. The company says that AirPods Pro will “continuously adapt to the geometry of your ear and fit of the ear tips – blocking out the world..” which honestly sounds very promising.

The exterior vent (microphone) on the AirPods catches the ambient sound, which is then equaled out against “anti-noise“, thus cutting out the undesired audio frequencies. But what if you need to hear certain things like announcements, or your mother’s rant about your performance at the school? Well, you can just press the “Force Sensor” for a second or more which toggles on the “Transparency Mode“. This allows for the external sound to pass through the AirPods.

Personally, I feel that the force sensor should’ve been placed vertically below the external microphone. This way, you could just use one finger to get a hold of the sensor, rather than having to use two fingers to comfortably access it. But unsurprisingly, Apple is trading off eased accessibility for clean design.

Audio performance is commendable as well. Apple’s custom high-excursion driver gives you clear sound and decent bass. Its adaptive equalizer, tunes the music to the shape of your ear? What? Compared to the last-gen of AirPods, the new AirPods’ charging case comes in a wider form-factor. On a single charge, it lasts for about 4.5 hours or one Tool album. Similarly, 5 minutes of charge can give you enough juice for 1 hour of playback.

Design

The Beats Studio Buds look nothing like the brand’s earlier true wireless earphones, the Powerbeats Pro. It has an in-ear design that is comparable to the AirPods Pro. However, unlike the AirPods lineup, it lacks an extended stem. The oval-shaped case has a single USB-C connection on the bottom and a status LED on the front.

Samsung has continued its storage series with the new T9 Portable Solid State Drive (SSD). The series naming is quite unconventional, though, with every number skipping from odd to odd and omitting all the even numbers in between.

Hence, this T9 SSD provides faster read/write speeds as well as a durable SSD. Without further ado, let’s get into what the Samsung T9 Portable SSD brings, as well as its expected price in Nepal.

Samsung T9 Portable SSD Overview:

Design and Durability

Samsung T9 Portable SSD carries a similar rugged design to the T7 Shield. The drive itself has carbon patterns on its body and a curved stripe along its diagonal. All of the upgrades (which we will get through) make it weigh 122 grams, much heavier than both the T7 (58g) and the T7 Shield (98g). However, the product is only available in Black.

As for the read/write, the Samsung T9 SSD brings up to 2,000 megabytes per second (MB/s) of transfer speed. The speed is almost twice as much as its predecessor, which could only get 1,050MB/s at max. This is all thanks to the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, an upgrade over USB 3.2 Gen 2 in T7 SSDs. For reference, transferring the whole SSD worth of data (4TB variation) takes less than 35 seconds on this storage device.

So, what are Gen 2×2 and Gen 2? What’s going on here?

As you may know, the Gen denotes the generation. Both being the second generation, the USB with Gen 2×2 is two times faster than Gen 2 (20 Gbps compared to 10 Gbps). Hence, the latter is also known as USB 3.2 Gen 2×1.

One thing to note is that the T9 supports both Type C-to-C and Type C-to-A cables, which might come in handy. Additionally, the SSD comes in three storage options: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. It also marks the release of Samsung Magician v.8.0, which integrates with all of Samsung’s software and expands its OS support to Windows, Mac, and Android.

Two years after the release of SmartTag and SmartTag+, Samsung has decided to release its second generation. The tag looks completely different from their older version and boats nearly 2 years of battery life on power-saving mode. So, let’s get into the recently announced Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2, its specifications, and expected price in Nepal.

What are tracker tags?

If you don’t know about AirTags, the tracker tag is a small gadget made for finding lost objects. If you are insecure about some items, baggage, or even pets getting lost, these trackers can get your job done.

So how it works is: whenever a compatible device passes by, it uses Bluetooth to communicate with that device. Then these devices send the actual location of the tracker to the cloud which eventually crawls its way up to the actual owner’s app.

Redesign

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 features a complete redesign compared to its predecessors. Instead of a square, the company has gone with an oblong shape. The hole is much bigger, so much so that you can even insert your finger inside. Further, with a solid metal loop, the tag can attach to larger handles in bags and luggage. Also, the IP67 rating comes in handy when the SmartTag has to face water or dust.

Improved Tracking

Building up from its previous version, the Galaxy SmartTag2 inherits both Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultrawide bandwidth (UWB) capabilities. Much like the Plus version, Augmented Reality (AR) Find technology helps the user to visually find the tracker using the phone’s camera in conjunction with AR.

Additionally, there is a better Compass View, pointing arrows to show the direction and the distance of SmartTag2 with regard to the user. However, this mode can only be accessed using Galaxy phones supporting UWB. The SmartThings Find app now features a full-screen map view and, according to Samsung, an intuitive interface for easier tracking, which brings us to the next point.

SmartThings Find app gets a brand-new update alongside the release of SmartTag2. This allows the addition of shortcuts for newly registered tags for easier access. Moreover, the app also automatically re-syncs the tag to your Galaxy device using a Samsung account.

Under normal circumstances, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 lasts 500 days at max. Nevertheless, this time around, this tracking device also gets a separate power-saving mode that makes it last 700 days (nearly 2 years).

Users also have the choice to input their contact details in case they lose the item in some way. If any other person finds it, they can scan the SmartTag2 to retrieve those details of the owner and reach them, all thanks to Lost Mode.
